Audio present in exported AVI form, dissappears with export to DVD (HELP!)

Hi, I have this incredibly strange audio problem that I can't figure out.
Basically, my audio works fine in Premiere, and in whatever form it is exported in. As soon as that file is uploaded to either youtube or burned to a disc in dvd video form, I almost completely lose my sound. There is a little bit of audio present, but mostly in the form of a very low buzz. If I crank the sound to the maximum, I can just barely hear dialogue, but there is almost no way to distinguish what is being said.
The following can help narrow things down:
PC Specs:
Vista 64 bit
Intel Quadcore 2.4ghz
4gb RAM
8800GTS 512mb
Onboard Audio
I recently wrapped up on a short film in which we shot on a Sony HDR-FX1 camera. We used an audio-technica shotgun mic and a separate wired mic. The wired mic works fine when put on a dvd, but the audio picked up by the shotgun mic does not. The onboard microphone works as well. In one particular instance, we used a different Panasonic camera in combination with the shotgun mic. THIS specific audio works fine on the DVD. Remember that all of the audio plays back perfectly in Premiere, Encore, and in any exported video/audio format.
Things I've tried, with no avail:
- Turning dB up to an absurd amount
- Exporting solely audio, then brining it back onto the timeline
- Exporting in various video formats, i.e flash, quicktime, etc.
- Exporting with various audio setups (though not everything)
What is going on here? I have to have this footage prepped by Thursday, and this audio problem is posing a serious problem. If you need ANY more information, let me know. I'd appreciate any and all help. Thank you!

I encoded using Adobe Encore 1.5, then created a standard VIDEO_TS file that I burned to a Philips DVD-R disc using a third party program called "DVD Blaster". I was having some difficulties getting the one within Nero and Encore to work, so I used a free trial of said program. I'm by no means an audio aficionado, but I believe Encore is indicating that it encodes the audio as Dolby Digital. My burner burns as 16x.
I played the DVD through my computer, and it works fine. I played it through an XBOX 360 and it didn't work. I just now tried it in my Toshiba upconvert player and it worked! Interesting. The Toshiba connects through my TV via HDMI, then a standard red-white composite audio cable connects it to my receiver. The 360 connects directly to the receiver via an optical cable. Currently, I only have the center, right, and left channels connected. There are no rear speakers.
Let me know if you need anything else. I appreciate the help.

    Hello,
You know the way photoshop elements organiser, allows you to view/sort pictures by albums.
Is there a way to export all your pictures to say usb drive, but have the directory structure match the ps album structure.
If not any other program do that?

    Click on your album.
Press Ctrl+A to select all images in the album
    Click File >>Export as New
    Click the Browse button
    Navigate to your USB drive

  • OMF and AAF exports -limited functionality now with 'raw' DSLR audio files.

I'm an post production sound mixer...and a film maker and thus I see PP CS5 from 2 sides. I'm using CS5 with a PC.
The industry uses OMF or AAF to export from a video workstation to an audio one. However PP CS5's OMF and AAF are both flawed.
I often had trouble exporting OMF's (from CS4) which failed without any reason popping up from the software. I usually believed this to be because of the OMF's restriction to 2Gb so I exported single tracks when I believe the source files are large...even when specifing say only 50 frame handles.
AAF more often worked with large files but the exports become large of course (that's OK) and all video material had to be deleted in the sequence before doing an AAF export.
I am now using CS5 and dropping my Canon 5D2 'H264' and Panasonic GH-1 'mts' files directly on the timeline instead of converting them to avi's with Neoscene. Great ...but alas all OMF's or AAF exports now fail....they will only work if I get my audio back to being wav files again, which isn't really viable once editing has occurred.
I know that OMF is fraught...Avid never made it easy but AAF is a more up to date exchange protocol. Could I request that this is investigated and an intermediate  transcode to something like wav or AIFF be undertaken by Media Encoder when an AAF export is used? I assume that the encoder doesn't yet know how to process audio .movs or mts files into the required export audio file and just kills the process.

    Stan,
Thanks for the suggestion...I submitted a Bug Report.
I used both OMF and AAF to export from PP CS4 to my professional Fairlght DAW, which was happy with either, as long as the export was succesful. As I said there were occasional problems with OMF even though I selected small 'audio handles' for the 'embedded' OMF exports. My source audiofiles are often pretty big. AAF worked with these big source files however.
However I always used Neoscene to transcode my DSLR files before importing the Neoscene converted .AVI's into CS4, the audio was part of the new .AVI's and was probably now a .WAV.
Now with CS5 I can drop the Canon 5D2's 'H264. mov's' or the Panasonic GH-1's '.mts' video files directly into PP-which plays them beautifully.
My trouble now starts when I try and export the edited audio to my DAW. I can only get it to work with source files that are .WAV.
I don't think other professional users, like all those new PP CS5 machines at the BBC, will be happy with the compromised OMF/AAF exports either as so many of us are using DSLR's now.

  • No sync with audio for input files AVI MPEG4 23.976 fps

No sync with audio for input files AVI MPEG4 23.976 fps.
If i open in Premiere Pro CC any file AVI MPEG4 23.976 fps (with internal audio MP3 or AC3) i got growing out of sync from start to end of file, even while play it at internal media player of Premiere Pro CC for source file.
Using external audio files AC3 or MP3 not help.
In properties of source file i see 23.97 fps instead of 23.976 fps, and time of internal file is wrong.
If i try Clip > Modify > Interpreter Footage > custom settings to 23.976 time i see right time, but when i click "OK", custom fps saved as 23.98 fps instead of 23.976 fps and time of source goes wrong again.
So i always get bad sync such files in Premiere Pro CC while play or export them.
But in all media players, other editors, and in PluralEyes sync OK with all such files.
If i open M2TS or MP4 (H264 23.976 fps) source file, all OK, it it shows as 23.976 fps, time is right, and sync OK.
So i want to add automatic detection 23.976 fps instead of 23.97 fps for source AVI files with 23.976 fps.
    Is it possible?

Yes, i know what XviD and DivX does not edit well in Premiere Pro. And because of that i create this topic "No sync with audio for input files AVI MPEG4 23.976 fps" and was hoping to get help in solving the problem, rather than stating that the problem really is.
XviD and DivX it is MPEG4.
Xvid (formerly "XviD") is a video codec library following the MPEG-4 standard, specifically MPEG-4 Part 2 Advanced Simple Profile (ASP).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xvid
I have many old useful materials in XviD and DivX formats, and have no other formats versions for that material.
XviD and DivX are very compact formats to store video at acceptable quality and it is fully compatible with all players and editors for PC except Premiere Pro.
You suggest to convert them to another format (DV) to make compatible with Premiere Pro... It is not what i want.
    Let me explaine:
    1) Size of files
uploaded AVI XviD 1280x720 file with very good quality have size 1.9Gb (with audio AC3 2.0). If i convert it via VirtualDub from "AVI XviD" to AVI DVCPRO HD 1280x720 (without audio) it have size 35Gb, and quality is worst than at XviD-HD, and also converting take much time.
    2) Compatibility with AC3 and MP3 audio inside AVI
AVI DV / AVI DVCPRO not compatible with AC3 and MP3 audio inside, only with PCM
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DV
AVI XviD and DivX can use AC3, MP3, OGG audio without any problems.
    Size of 1Hour 30Min "AC3 Stereo 48kHz 16bit 384Kbps" file is 257Mb
    Size of 1Hour 30Min "PCM Stereo 48kHz 16bit" file is 1030Mb
    3) I have and use hardware H264 encoder card "Matrox CompressHD" for export my material
    http://www.matrox.com/video/en/products/compresshd/specs/
This card works only from Adobe Premiere Pro, so i can not use it from VirtualDub or other editing software.
So i need a full compatibility Adobe Premiere Pro with all popular standard formats of input files.
    Here we see:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/extend.html#Supportedvideoformats
    Supported video formats:
"Adobe Premiere Pro CC leads the industry with incredible, thorough native media support, meaning you can edit virtually all of the major video, image, and audio formats natively without waiting."
As most PC users knows, AVI XviD it is a very popular free video format, and would be very useful if Adobe will make normal compatibility with that format in Premiere Pro.

  • Wondering if there is a way to circumvent limitations with exported forms

I am a DW user. Love it since 2001.
I discovered Muse.  Love it since version 3 (& Muse CC is great)
Using BC for website hosting.  Highly recommend it.
    BUT…
Whenever I use MUSE to generate a form (something which i like better in Muse than using the BC website form builder online) and I decide to export the form (or a complete Muse website with the form to use in a section of my DW controlled BC hosted website) as HTML I get a folder with all i need to place about inside another website… In my case in DW to push on a website that I am hosting in BC.
    BUT…
Problem is that the HTML export generates PHP that needs to be used with regards to the form (it is located in the Script folder inside the MUSE Exported website folder)…
BUT… BC does not allow PHP to be used on its hosted websites…
(something as a M.A.M.P. user, i find sad, but that is besides the point…)
SINCE I use Muse for quick custom sections on my Website
(I work in a modular way i.e. I can generate webpages in various apps
before combining or adding them via Dreamweaver in any of my websites I have hosted on BC)
AND the exported forms (as in PHP outputs) are not compatible with BC
(something which i find baffling since Muse can host forms on a BC website!)
I am wondering if there is a way to circumvent this bizarre case of (so it looks like) double standards with regards to Forms?
Should I push (publish) the website in BC from Muse
and then Import it in my other BC website via DW
(And if so, how to do it without damaging my main site in DW on BC?) ?
Right now, I place the muse exported HTML website folder inside my DW on BC main website
and then go in the form page and substitute the form (essentially recreate a new form!)
using the BC website form builder system that i then copy and paste from in code view into my DW form page to customize it with CSS in DW (while making sure I keep all the info required by BC forms to do the data acquisition work, of course).
This is a tedious way and looks totally bizarre to me,
as I already mentioned, MUSE can host forms on BC…
but just not when it is exported as HTML (with the PHP required scripts)…
    Am I missing something ?
    "Anyone…Anyone…
      Bueller… Bueller… Bueller…?"
Thanks for any time saving ideas.
PS For those wondering why i do all this Muse and DW shuffling and mix : I have to do things in a bilingual (and soon with more languages) setup.  in other words, my work is not just in English…it is in at least 2 languages at all times… something of a headache, but there it is. I just got to do it. (And use is great for quick and dirty… i mean clean… webpage building on the fly).

This is a follow-up to the above question I had.
Since i noticed people looking at the question, but no replies showing up, i contacted BC support directly with the same question.
    I got a reply.
I did tests based on the reply.
Here is what is going on based on the reply.
(spoiler alert : It works... but it's not yet a perfect score.)
All the details are posted here :

    Hope this can help others.
    Cheers.
PS  I still will use DW for the heavy lifting...
But MUSE is nice for quickly putting together a mini website.
           Highly recommended App.

  • Always asynchronous audio if I export an MXFop1a file with 8 channel audio from Premiere 2014.1 for delivery to XDCam HD U1 Sony.

I try now for hours to export an MXF op1a with 8 channel audio from Premiere CC2014.1  and with AME 2014.1 to copy the file on my XDCam drive u1 to a disc.
The file is always asynchronous after 20 or 30 minutes. The project is synchronous and also other codecs are synchronous if I export them. So I think it's a bug...
I use the newest Sony XDCam drivers. Also parts with no audio can't be render with intelligent render. If I use this option, Premiere or AME crashes...
I work on a mac system with 10.8.5 OSX.
Does anybody have the same problems or any ideas to solve my problem...
    Best regards,
    Florian

The following will answer both your questions a) and b).
Click on your master timeline and press cmd+0 (zero) to bring up Sequence Settings, then click on the Audio Outputs tab on the right. Click on the Outputs option and change it to 6. You can leave them as Stereo pairs.
Now, back on your timeline, you need to make sure all your audio is organised so each track. A1, A2, A3, A4 etc has all the relevant media on it.
Then, on the left of the timeline you see the Destination toggle buttons, then you see the Padlocks to lock tracks, then you have the Toggle Auto Select squares. If you right-click on the Toggle Auto Select squares you bring up a little sub-menu, at the top of this list you'll see Audio Outputs, which will show the stereo channels for that particular track. As you've changed the number of Audio Outputs in the Sequence Settings, the list will show: 1&2, 3&4, 5&6. You just tick whichever channels you want.
In your case, you have dialogue on the first 4 tracks, no problem, just go down through tracks 1,2,3 and 4 as described above and assign these to Audio Outputs 1&2.
Then just go down through your music and effects audio tracks and assign them accordingly.
Now, when you export your timeline as a self-contained media file, it will have different audio channels.
I hope that makes sense. When you change the number of audio outputs as described in the first step, I believe the rest of it is fairly self explanatory, once you know where the settings are.

  • AMC export avi with no compression takes AGES!  across network

    Heres one for the pro's
Im having some really anoying slow behavior with premiere and media encoder.
         OS=windwos vista business x64
         RAM = 12gigs
         CPU= 2 X quads
Video card = bad *** nvidia card
SAN = Isilon cluster 3 X nodes, gigabit dual teamed NIC connection
    bla bla bla
Ok. So i have about an 8 minute project, nothing too fancy, trying to export an uncompressed avi to the network at 720p resolution to the cluster storage array,  and adobe media encoder gets pretty slow near the end of the export, and is generally just a slow hog. Its not using but 10% of my CPU power, and its also not using any where close to my max NIC card throughput.
Anyone out there really good at FINE Tuning CS4 to the max??
    Please dont respond with
Check driver updates, adobe updater, bla bla bla,,,,   im not a moron.
    thanks guys!!!!

Network output has never been a problem for me, even without teamed NIC's. OK, it is slower than local disks, but it has never taken AGES.
First, do you experience the same problem when outputting to a local disk? If yes, then something with the export seems amiss. Then we need further details on your export settings to start with. If no, your network connection may be the troublesome part. What server OS are you using, what overhead/security can be degrading throughput on the NIC's? Are you using virtualization, if so what software? With other tasks on the network, do you experience the same lagging response?

  • Windows AVI hd files with 4 channels of audio with quicktime PRO ?????

I wish to convert Windows AVI hd files with 4 channels of adio to Quicktime mov, retaining the four tracks of audio, will quicktime pro do this

It depends on what the audio and video codecs used in the video. AVI is just a container format and make use any number of codecs, some of which QuickTime for Windows can support but many it cannot. If you can post information on the codecs, someone here can probably give more direct advice.

  • Exporting a project with multiple audio tracks changes the loudness level regardless of export format

I recently had to submit a TVC and discovered that premiere was changing the loudness level after export, when the TVC failed the quality check.
I checked the audio loudness of other formats that I had exported and the same thing had happened the audio loudness, it had changed.
After a bit of troubleshooting I found a workaround. I mixdown all of the tracks in adobe audtion to one track and then imported it into premeire.
Once I did this the audio loudness was not changed after exporting.
Workflow for when it didn't work.
I used edit in adobe audtion for the audio tracks from premiere.
Matched the audio to the loudness level I wanted, and then saved each track.
    Export from premiere.
    To Check Audio Loudness
Bring in exported file into new premiere project
Edit the audio in adobe audtion.
Drag the audio file into match audio to check loudness level.
    I am using
    Adobe Premiere Pro CC v8.1
    Windows 7 on PC
    Please fix this adobe.

I recently had to submit a TVC and discovered that premiere was changing the loudness level after export, when the TVC failed the quality check.
I checked the audio loudness of other formats that I had exported and the same thing had happened the audio loudness, it had changed.
I have never experienced that or had any need for a work around.
What did your Broadcast Quality Control pick up on?
Audio Levels and Loudness are two different things in this regard.

  • PREMIERE PRO cs3 & cs5 - audio out of synch by 6 frames after export

i have never had formal training on adobe premiere, and therefore when i am working with my students it is basically down to expereince i have gained by myself.
with cs3, we always worked on the basis that it would always export the audio out of synch with the video by 6 frames so they would routinely have the audio tracks on two separate tracks, one for editing and one for exporting which was offset +6 frames.
when we made the transition to cs5 and new kit i was stunned to see that the synch issues were still there. and since a quick google yielded very little evidence that others shared this issue i thought it must be something i am doing wrong after years of bad habits learned on the fly.
so here is my workflow, where am i going wrong and why is it always out of synch?
    open cs5
choose an editing format. (this varies but the synch issue is always the same)
    import content
    edit
export (normally as a microsoft avi, with no compression which i later convert into quicktime compressed with ANIMATION)
i teach on an animation course so normally the content we import is a sequence of stills such as jpg or tiff, but we also capture stuff on dslrs too
the timeline colour is normally yellow, which is fine at standard def, but larger def we will render workspace to turn it green
the editing format depends on our target format. the current project is 720 hd
the export as avi with no compressor i suspect to be a weak link in this work flow, but the problem remains if i export as anything else so....
now as an additional point on the matter, the current project we have had people miming to an audio clip which we played live for their performance. the audio blips were aligned on the timeline with the audio blips from the edit
but after rendering out, the footage is out of synch by 6 frames. it has always been this way.
any thoughts? i know i must be doing something wrong, but the issue is consistant across different computer, running different OS and different versions of PREM...so either i am doing it wrong or premiere is fundamentally broke.....i suspect its me though

is there a logical reason for opting for a preset which is the lowest common denominator rather than a highest? is it not better to work at the best res possible?
does it matter either way? because i have often created 1080p content and worked in a 1024/576 edit environment only to later export at 1080p with no loss of quality?
i create the avi and then open this in quicktime to export to the desired formats.
now that you posted that comment i cant believe i have never done the simple trouble shoot of 'at what point does it go out of synch'
files are too big to playback uncompressed though.
i know it is a workflow issue and not a prem issue because no one else seems to have the problem.
im going to run some tests
    thanks, will report back

  • Exporting .avi to .mov using h264 loses sound after a few seconds

Here's a weird one. I am editing some movie clips, and when I do an export to .mov format using h264 compression, the audio drops out after a 8-10 seconds.
At first I thought it was happening after an edit jump, but nope -- it just cuts out for some reason. I also cannot export to MP4 format without losing the audio completely (shows as MPEG Layer 3 audio in the properties window of the original). When I look at the Properties for the exported movie, I can see the audio length is not the full length of the video.
I have edited clips like this before in QuickTime with no issues, not sure what is going on. I tested on MPEG Streamclip and I can export to either format with no sound issues.

    Hello George,
Sorry I can't help you with your problem. But it is TOO much of a coincidence that YOU do everyday (try to, lately!) what I am trying for the first time-- converting .avi files to .mov files. I just got a cheap movie cam and it saves files to avi format. I am able to transfer them successfully to my Mac, but cannot find a third party avi converter. If you can help please email me: [email protected]
thank you for your time and I hope SOMEONE out there will help YOU!

  • Exporting avi and no video

This 4 gig AVI ceiling really *****!! I want to export a 4 min video from my timeline as an AVI with as little compression as possible put on it. After I export it, I send it to our IT dept who encodes it for our web. I exported the video out as a QT file none compressed and it said it was about 8 gigs.
Here's 1 of my questions. I'm doing my usual workflow, file>export>QT conversion>AVI>options. When I select None it exports out black. No audio or video.
Why will it not export out the project?
I'm having troubles with our encoder converting my pieces also. I do know it will take AVI's and MPEG's, but not sure of the codes. As I write this I'm exporting out the piece applying different settings to see which the encoder will work with.
I do understand that the .mov or .avi is just a wrapper. So if I change a .mov to an .avi it doesn't change the codecs. is that correct? like I said I tried exporting out an uncompressed QT.mov and changed it to a .avi and it wouldn't encode either.
Any suggestions on how to escape the 4 gig ceiling of the AVI. ( and no exporting sections out is not an option)
Once I find the codecs of the encoder how can I find if my FCP software matches it? Can the encoder be updated to match my G5 fcp6 codecs?
    Thanks for any help.

What format is the IT dept putting on the web? Perhaps you can do the encoding yourself directly (and get better results).
It should also be pointed out that your IT dept can install QuickTime for free on their computer and then they will be able to accept your .mov files. Or are they not computer-savy enough to know how to install software…

  • Exporting AVI problems

i have a 1:14 hour long sequence in final cut. Dv pal 25fps 720x576. When i export it to avi it all goes well, but when the export is over, when i go to open the file in quicktime or any other player like vlc nothing shows up.
The file info shows thats is a 14gb file with 1:14 hour, so it's all correct but no video or audio shows up when i open it, and it doesn't appear any error message.
Can anybody help me on this?

yes it can play avi files. actually i exported another video from final cut in 1440x1080i to avi with no problems. but that video lenght was 7 min. This one in dvpal is 1 hour long. i am working on a ntfs disk with macfuse and ntfs3g but i export the files to a mac os extended disk, and i have also tried to put that files that i use for edit, in a mac os disk, but when i export it to avi using quicktime conversion the same happens, i have reinstalled final cut and quicktime, i have clean the plugins folder in final cut but it keeps the same...
