"Authentication failed" - exceeding Airport Extreme's max users with less than 10 devices connected?
I am running an Airport Extreme with two Airport Expresses on my network. There are two macbook pros, two iphones, two ipads, a PS3 and a chromecast in the household, a max of probably 5 or 6 of which are turned on at any given time. Normally everything works perfectly, but occasionally my wife or I will get an "authentication failed" message while trying to log onto our home network, and after wasting time resetting the router, checking settings, etc, the only sure fire way to reconnect seems to be to make sure the chromecast and a couple of the iphones are turned off.
If I remember correctly, the max number of connections to an airport extreme is 50? Obviously not ideal but it shouldn't be refusing connections when 6 or 7 devices are trying to hook up. We have had the same issue when firends come to visit. I can't find any obvious problems in the airport setup, and I have my DHCP range set from xx.xx.xx.2 to 200.
Any ideas?

Our airport extreme network works fine with our 6 devices. But when someone comes over and tries to log on, they can't until we restart the airport. Then they can get on, but it knocks one of our devices off the network. Any ideas?
I have not done a factory reset, I was trying to find out if I had some setting configured wrong first. I figured I'd just make things worse if went through a reset!

Airport Extreme Firmware Update 7.3.2 no longer connects to internet
Automatic Updates recommended Airport Extreme Firmware Update 7.3.2, which I accepted (BAD). The Airport Extreme does have a green light, but CANNOT connect to the internet. Cannot "Check for Updates" with Airport Utility (option key down) because I cannot access the internet. Airport Utility shows 7.3.2, but nothing lower. Is there a location on the mac where the older driver resides?
Numerous restarts, resets, etc with both the Cable Modem and Airport Extreme and my MacBook do not help.
How do I download 7.3.1? Can I? How can I revert?
I can access the internet from another network, hence this email.
Any suggestions would help!When I updated to the Airport Extreme to 7.3.2 firmware it was dropping wireless connections randomly, Today I reverted back to 7.3.1 and looks like it is staying up for now but I am still shell shocked. To revert back in Airport Utility:
1) Hold down the option key(Mac), the Control key for Windows at the same time clicking on Check for updates
This will open a popup window with the previous versions, select the Airport Extreme Firmware 7.3.1 update and click download.
2) After the download is done, from Base station file menu drop down select Upload Firmware, you will get a choice to download different firmware updates, select 7.3.1.
That should install the 7.3.1.

Hi. I am having issues with copying files to my shared WB 2TB HDD connected to my airport extreme. Comes up with error 50. I am using a Macbook Pro to copy from so not sure what I am doing wrong. Can someone help? thanks Rory

I've encountered this error myself upon occasion. If I remember correctly, it was a permissions/ownership issue with the some of the files I was copying. -

So, what is the actual problem here? You are now wondering if the Vonage can handle the speed from the modem? Is that the "problem" after all this discussion?

What speed is your Internet provider delivering to you?
The AirPort Express uses 100 Mbps Ethernet ports, so it will handle up to 100 Mbps. We have already told you that.
Vonage likely does the same. The answer is almost certainly "yes" .......both the Vonage and AirPort will handle the speed from the modem.
If you want to double check this, please provide the model number of the Vonage, and we will try to look up the specifications for the device. If you have documentation there with specifications for the Vonage device, check to see if the Ethernet ports are listed as 10/100. This is standard with almost all devices, with some of them handling even higher speeds 10/100/1000.
Chances are, your network will handle a lot more speed than your service provider is supplying to you. So, the "choke" point on your network may very well be your service provider and modem......not the Vonage and AirPort. -

The new AirPort Extreme needs the 6.x version of AirPort Utility, which comes packed in with Lion 10.7.5 or Mountain Lion 10.8.x......or......you can also configure the device using an iPhone or iPad running a recent iOS.

iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3
A few options.....
Borrow another Mac running Lion or Mountain Lion for 10-15 minutes and set it up. The Mac running 10.5.8 will be able to connect to the wireless....but it will not be able to make any changes to the configuration of the Extreme.
Update to Lion or Mountain Lion.....but check first to make sure that your Mac will support the operating system first.

No, since there is no modem on board an AirPort Extreme, so you will need to use an outboard modem if you want the AirPort Extreme to have Internet access.

Yes, if the AirPort Extreme is joining a wireless network that has been created by another Apple router. In this case, it will be extending the wireless network and the Ethernet ports are enabled on the "remote" AirPort Extreme.
No, if the AirPort Extreme will be used with another router from another manfacturer.
Ironically, the less expensive AirPort Express can do what you ask about with virtually any wireless network using a special feature called ProxySTA. It won't extend the wireless with a non-Apple router, but the Ethernet port will be enabled. -
AIrport Extreme-n internet issue with WDS networking
I have 1 AIRPORT EXTREME-n STATION set as the MAIN STATION connected to a modem.
With the following configuration my Internet connection drops every 4-5 minutes and I have to reset modem and Airport Extreme:
- A second Airport Extreme-n (set as RELAY) connected to the main station
- 1 Airport Express unit (set as remote) connected to the main station
- 2 Airport Express units (set as remote) connected to the relay station
With the following configuration my Internet connection does NOT drop:
- Second Airport Extreme-n (set as REMOTE) connected to the main one
- 3 Airport Extreme units (set as remote) connected to the main station
I need to connect everything as in the first case scenario, because two of the Airport Extreme units are quite far from the main Airport Extreme station (I bought a second Extreme station to extend the signal!).

Powerbook g4 12 Mac OS X (10.4.6)Not trying to insult you with basics, but there are a few things you can try with your scenario (which is probably one of the most advanced and therefore problem-prone setups). It may also be there are just some issues that Apple has to work out in future updates.
1. Factory reset on ALL 5 units.
2. Changing channels (use only 1, 6, or 11 - there are reasons why).
3. Try changing encryption levels to at least see if that seems to be an issue. I usually start with "None" to eliminate a bad link in the chain.
4. Power levels lowering one or both units may actually help in some situations.
5. Since you are obviously running 2.4GHz with compatibility for BG clients, there are some other settings to play with like interference robustness on/off, multicast rate, etc.

Thanks planb77. Your instructions worked but I had to do a little more than you stated. I did not realize that transferring files to a new computer was not enough. When the iPod synced I was told I needed to "authorize" my new computer to get my iTunes purchases to sync to the iPod. So after the initial sync, I ejected and disconnected the iPod, went into the iTunes store, set up "home sharing" and then authorized the new computer. When that was done I reconnected the iPod and was able to sync all my books and music. The only thing I couldn't do was rename the iPod as iTunes never asked me to. Is there a way to rename it after it has been set by iTunes as "owner's iPod"?

Dissociate an end user with the primary device
I need to "Enable Mobily" for a new hire and I need to select his phone as the primary device. However, I run into this error: "Update failed. Device is already associated with another End User as Primary device"
Is there a way to dissociate the old end user with the primary device? As a last report solution, do you think that by deleting the phone off the CUCM, it will fix the issue when I add the phone back to CUCM?

How would you "hunt down the other user" in order to make sure the phone is not associated with that particular user. We have about 3000 phones.
I checked the phone settings under "Device" - "Phone" and there is no user under "Owner User ID". Although, I think that this field "Owner User ID" is not connected in any way to Extension Mobility.
