Automatic FCPX Crash on Uncompressed File Import
Hello there...
I'm running FCPX 10.0.8 on OSX 10.8.4.
I edit sizzle reels and often am delivered footage on BluRay discs. I extract the files using a "Pass Through" mode that only makes sure the H.264 files on the BluRay discs are compliant and rewraps (no re-encoding). Once I have these large .m4v files I import them into FCPX.
If I don't optimize or create proxy on import, the files will import ok but once in FCPX they aren't usable. There is a solid green color where you would normally be able to watch clips and the audio on playback works fine.
If I do attempt to optimize or create proxy on import, the program crashes immediately.
If, for example, I would have taken those uncompressed files and ever so slightly compressed them (in Handbrake, iVi, etc) the resulting files would import and work perfectly. That is the way I'm forced to go now, but the uncompressed (which plays PERFECTLY in Quicktime and VLC right before importing to FCPX) looks so much better.
Any help anyone can shed on this would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.
I get this crazy error report below.

Yes I downloaded the additional content.
I understand that H.264 is a compressed format, but the way I'm pulling the files from the source disc, I'm not compressing them in any additional manner. The program I am using (iVi from the App Store) has a Pass Through mode and essentially is re-wrapping them (if they are H.264 no video encode) and encoding audio.
I could try going straight to ProRes but the file sizes would astronomical and I'm not setup for that. A feature would be 135-150 gigs in 422.

Harddrive + FCPX crash!
I'm using FCPX and a LaCie rugged harddrive. When I plug in the harddrive and fcpx attempts to load my project, FCP crashes:(. It seems to get hung up loading one file in particular. Any ideas? THanks
Hi Andy,
The problem is probably the codec. FCPX Crash if clips are imported by fcpx with H.264 codec (clips AVHCD from Panasonic HDC TM900). My solution: I've used "AUNSOFT MTS Converter" to converter my clips M2TS with codec "ProRess 422 HD". So, I'Ive imported its into FCPX (imported file), and work on my project without problems.
P.S. With Fcpx 10.0.0 and Lion 10.7, not problem to import clips with H. 264 Codec. I see problems after lion 10.7.1 !!! What do you think ?
Thank You... -
Since 10.0.9 FCPX crashes at "Import Media"
Hi,
it never happend before, the problem has shown up after i updated fcpx.
I tried to import my footage, it´s from a panasonic hmc 151. 1080/50i, AVCHD.
I never had a problem before. It was always the some work around.
Open FCPX, insert SD-Card into the build in sd card reader, "import media", choose the filmes, set in and out point, import. finish.
After the update it starts that the footage will not be shown in the "import media" window. Ok, no problem I copied everything to my hard drive. Opened the "import media" window again. Nice, footage shows up. Now the problem, i can only see: clip1, clip 2 etc.
With the click on a file to preview or something final cut crashes within seconds.
Every time I try, what happend? Also with the Canon 550d/T2i Rebel footage.
No preview, straight crash.
I also saved the fail protocol, if someone needs it to help.
thank you for your help, philippTry trashing preferences; I regularly use Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion as my first remedy when FCP starts acting up.
What happens if you connect via USB cable? Are both Archive and Import available and do either work?

After an Automatic Adobe Update, Photoshop crashes on opening files
I just did the automatic adobe update to photoshop (CS3) and now I crash on opening files (file-open....crash!)
I tried deleting the preferences file, still crashes in the same place
I have un installed the program, reinstalled from the original program disc (not done the update) and it still is crashing.
I haave a Macbook pro with 2.33 Intel core 2 Duo processor, and am running 10.5.6
Any ideas?
Thanks
CarrieYou really need to be running the updated version of CS3. If its crashing in the new user its probably a system thing.
I would run Diskwarrior or Apple's Disk Utility from the DVD. then I would update the System to 10.5.7 with the 10.5.7 Combo updater downloaded from the Apple website. -
FCPX has suddenly started crashing when trying to import media
I updated FCPX to 10.0.8 a couple of weeks ago and everything has been fine until today (I'm fully updated with Mountain Lion as well) . Now every time I try to import media, FCPX crashes. This occurs right after I hit the "Import Selected" button -- and occurs regardless of type of media, where I'm importing it from, or how many clips. I get a very long error message -- I've attached just the first part of it (through Thread 0) below. The entire error message runs through Thread 37.
The only thing I did right before this happoened was to delete some old unused applications that were not even on the system HD (they were on a different internal HD - drive A). The applications included very old versions of Final Cut and iMovie that had not been opened in a couple of years. After I did this, FCPX suddenly started to recognize another internal HD (drive C) as a camera for the first time, and tried to import a bunch of old home movies, which it has never done before. And ever since then it started crashing when trying to import new media -- even after I "ejected" drive C.
Any ideas? I'm at a total loss and in the middle of a big project for a client, and could really use some help. Thanks!

I'th Mountain Lion as well. *and FCPX 10.0.7Update: the problem is definitely with the internal HD "drive C". Before restarting FCPX after the last crash I unmounted the C drive -- then restarted FCPX and was able to import media just fine. I thought I had tried this already, but I guess not.
So, what did I change with my C drive when I deleted the old apps off my A drive? There is both an iMovie events and projects folder on the C drive -- but FCPX has never tried to import them until after I deleted the old iMovie app (I still have the most recent version of iMovie on my system drive -- but have never used it to open these old folders). I read on another thread on this forum that if I "hid" these folders, FCPX would not try to recognize them, so I moved them to within another folder on the same drive -- but FCPX is still trying to recognize and show them when the Import Media window is launched -- and still shows the C drive as a camera.
So, what can I do to stop this from happening?
Thanks! -
IPhoto 9.5.1 - Hangs on any movie file import - crashes -help!
Hey There Everyone!
I'm working in iphoto 9.5.1 and Mavericks and have been for weeks. However, since my upgrade to Mavericks I've had no luck importing any movie file (.MOV,.mp4) into my library from either my iphone or my T2i Canon. Photos are fine. Videos are not.
I have browsed the boards here and have done the following:
HELD DOWN ALT/OPTION & created a new library. IMPORT STILL HANGS AND CRASHES when trying to import videos
CREATED NEW USER and new library - IMPORT STILL HANGS & CRASHES
HAVE repaired permssions, then deleted app, receipts and re-installed from APP store. Still crashes.
Photos import without any problem. If I have a mix, it imports the photos up until the video, then it's the spinning beach ball of death.
I get a "not responding" (even after an hour) and then I force quit. On re-opening I get: "A photo ahs been found in the iPhoto library that has not been imported. Would you like to import it? " This is always the movie file and when I do this it hangs again. I end up saying no and it's put into a .recovered folder just outside my library.
All other functions seem to be working in Iphoto. Any help anyone has would be great!
Thanks!
JonOpen the iPhoto Library as Terence Devlin as shown in this screenshot
and move the contents of the Auto Import folder
to a folder on the Desktop. Launch iPhoto and check to see if that message has gone away. If it has you can try importing the files from the folder on the Desktop again. -
New photos app crashes on file import from iPhone 6
Anyone else having a problem with a larger size import (1400+ pictures) from their iPhone to Photos?
Photos has crashed on me twice while trying to download pics from my iPhone.Either try importing in smaller batches or try using Image Capture to upload the photos from your iPhone to a folder on the Desktop. If that's successful you can import them in batches from the folder. There might be a damaged image file that is causing the crash. This way you can narrow down to which one it is (if that's what's causing the crash) with the incremental imports.

TS1776 When I go to File/Import File itunes crashes, can you help?
I am trying to copy movies onto my iPad and when I go to File/import file itunes quits.
This can happen if you are in private browsing mode which disables some menu items.
# In the Tools menu select Options to open the options window
# Go to the Privacy panel
# Change the setting "Firefox will" to "Remember History", or if it is set to "Use custom settings for history", de-select the setting "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session" -

FCPX crashing when I try to share a project
When I try to export a project creating a new master file FCPX crashes. I can share to vimeo or youtube, or share a still image, but if I choose to share new master file then the program shuts down, and now it doesn´t even show me the report. I am using FCPX 10.1.3, but had the same problem with previous versions. Anyone has an idea about what can be causing this problem? Thanks!

OS X 10.9.5Set up iMovie Theater and iCloud
In order to take full advantage of the capabilities of iMovie Theater, you must be signed in to iCloud. If you are signed in to iCloud, movies and trailers shared to iMovie Theater are automatically uploaded to iCloud. You can also turn off automatic uploading, and upload just the movies and trailers you want, or delete individual movies and trailers from iCloud. For more information about the Theater, see iMovie Theater overview.
If you sign out of your iCloud account on your Mac, all iCloud movies disappear from the Theater, but they are not deleted; the movies reappear when you sign in again. If you ever run out of space in iCloud, an alert icon appears in the top-right corner of your movie, indicating that you can’t upload new movies. For more information, click the icon. After you upgrade your iCloud storage or clear space, your movies automatically appear in iCloud again.

Set up automatic iCloud uploading
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and click iCloud.
Make sure you’re signed in, and then select the Documents & Data checkbox.
Click the Options button next to Documents & Data.
Make sure the iMovie checkbox is selected.
In iMovie, choose iMovie > Preferences.
Select the “Automatically upload content to iCloud” checkbox.
To turn off automatic uploading, deselect the checkbox. -
So I've tried everything. FCPX was working fine and then just started crashing.... and never stopped. Using Event Manager, I've narrowed it down to one 40 min, 276 clip edit that is, well, very important. Without this project FCPX runs fine. If I load the project then it crashes as it starts rendering the timeline.
I've dumped the thumbnails/prefs/render and cache files to no avail. I managed to copy the timeline to a new project but FCPX crashed again. The only imports today are two TIFFS which I've now trashed.... but FCPX still crashes. There are other TIFFS/JPEGS imported over the last few days which haven't caused any problems. I have also used some Logic compression/limiting plug-ins on a good few audio clips in the timeline... not sure if that's relevant. No third-party plug-ins used yet.
It's a large project with over 1TB of clips in the event library that have been fine for the last few weeks of the edit. I've managed to send a project to Compressor which seems to be running OK despite the crashes. I can also scrub through and play the project in the library window.
The log always identifies the crash as "FFThumbnailRequestManager" - I can't find a thing about that process, or what the solution is, hence the post. I'm backed up but don't want to lose this mornings edits if possible.
Thanks for any help.
Here's the top part of the log and the relevant thread - apologies for the length of the post.

Just one set of projects in a particular folder that I haven't actually touched/edited in at least 6 months.
When I expand the folder that contains this folder (in the Project Pane), it crashes out.
The projects all contain just one 30-second clip with various effects (including audio enhancements, from memory)
I've tried deleting just about everything in the project folder to no avail.
If I delete the folder itself, everything is fine again.

RH Crash when linking or importing word documents
RH9 build 9.0.1.232
Office 2010
Webhelp (custom skin)
I have created a template from a successful project which i completed over three months ago.
I am now trying to create a project using the template and getitng persistent crashes when attempting to Import or Link Word documents.
This is causing a great hold up to the project delivery.
Any help would be appreciatedPlease see the article on my site about Project Templates. The script has been found to have some issues.
You say have deleted the file and then ask what will happen if you remove it. You did, you said so "Deleting the file seemed to work". If that is not what you mean, please clarify what you mean by removing the file.
If you create a project using the script, then close the project and delete the CPD, it should be OK. If there ae going to be problems, you will know pretty soon.

CS5.5 hangs on file import
I have been using PP for several versions and have never experienced any major issues until now. At some point in the last few weeks (cannot link it to a recent PP update, but that may be the case) I have started having extreme problems when importing files. It started on my laptop, then I experienced the same problem on my desktop.
I nearly always import .mov files and have had no problems in the past. Now PP hangs randomly on file import. It seems to work more often than not if I import one file at a time, but even then it may stop randomly on a file. If I restart it may successfully import the file it stopped on, or it may crash again. It is impossible to import a large batch of files at once, so working on a large project is now almost impossible. I cannot see anything in this forum that relates to it. I am running Windows 7 an PP version 5.5.0. In addition my laptop version randomly shows 'pending' against different files - this changes to other files if I re-start. If I try to re-link it can also cause a hang.
One other change in my workflow. I have switched from a Canon 5D mark II to a mark III. But I can read and edit the files succesfully and play them in other applications, just as with the mark II. But even with the mark III I successfully imported my first batch of files about a month ago and had no problems whatsoever.
Any ideas?Update
I have been researching this further. There is a possibility that this is related to the new container format in the 5D mark III. This camera now allows high or low compression .mov files to be created. In the mark II they were all low compression. The last batch that I created was high compression. It is possible that PP is having trouble with these. It still randomly rejects files and randomly reports some as being off-line, yet the next time I connect they are back on-line. I created a batch of 10 with low compression and they loaded correctly, but have not tested this with a large batch of real files. I am also checking with Canon to see what has changed.
If anyone has any further advice or experience I'd be grateful. In the meantime it seems that the only way I can safely process these files is to run them all through the media encode and convert them to mp4 or something similar.
Further update
I am gradually answering my own question here. For anyone with a Canon 5D mark III you might be interested.
First batch of footage shot on 5D mk III set to 1080P high compression. This caused PP and Media Encode (ME) to crash frequently. Even footage already loaded came back with an off-line message randomly.
Test set of footage shot on 5D mk II worked perfectly in the same project. There are no compression options on the mk II.
Could not convert original batch with ME so used MPEG Streamclip to convert the batch of 100+. Conversion worked first time. Import into PP worked perfectly.
Shot a test batch of 10 with the mk III in low compression and they all imported with no problems.
This points to an incompatibility between PP/ME and the new 5D mk III low compression format files. I'll report this as a bug to Adobe. I have already reported it to Canon. -
I have continuously over the last 6 months struggled with syncing my iphone and ipod with itunes The app continually crashes during the picture import. AND by the way it takes 10-15 minutes before it even attempts to import photos. The screen says importing photoes but doesnt try to optimize or anything for 10 minutes. I have a 3gs with 16Gb so its not a cheap phone. I have 10Gb free. I have 6600 photoes. This is very frustrating and undermines my confidence in your products. My ipod is an ipod 4 with 16Gb also. It does the exact same thing to it. The last time, I had to import photoes a few at the time and with it taking 10-15 minutes each time for 6600 photos it is a long frustrating process. But it will import every photo a few at a time. The error message is just that itunes has stopped working. no hint as to why. AND of course, my phone is out of use for the entire time. You guys must not want to believe ur phones are a necessary tool...or maybe you dont want the consumer to believe it is. I have tried to find solutions on your website as well as through other 3rd party communities. Ultimately they were of no use. I stumbled onto my solution by accident since Im a bit of a computer geek...a semi-geek.
I have this issue too, I went into my Windows event viewer. (should have looked at this a year ago when this started)

basically whenever I try to sync my ipod touch 4G 64GB it crashes iTunes when it begins the pictures. if im lucky ill get 4-5 on there before it stops responding. its not my system or anything im running win7x64 8GB DDR3 ram (Corsair XMS3) AMD FX Eight core processor.
It is silly that iTunes cannot add pictures to apple devices. it shatters whatever incline I may have to buy apple products. knda like the Airport Extreem router my dad bought the new firmware, caused my router to not function... why release firmware that breaks a product. -_- <-- off topic but still -
I have duplicated a project to work on another computer. The project opens fine but when I import new footage/audio files I get this message. "File importer detected an inconsistency in the file stucture of (file name). Reading and writing this file's metadata (XMP) has been disabled." Then I can't play my timeline and Premier Pro crashes. I have to force quit and restart my computer to continue working. What does this error really mean? How do you rectify?
Our workflow requires that we duplicate projects to make updates because we are frequently revising but need to keep original project unchanged and intact.I have a similar issue and message , but occurs when I import AVI clips from OnLocation CS4 to Premier Pro CS4.
