Availability and Fitting of backlit keyboard to Envy DV6 - 7331SA

I've an Envy DV6-7331SA which works just fine.
I'd quite like a backlit keyboard.
Googling around it seems that backlit keyboards are available but
1. Is this just a simple replacement. I presume the keyboard comes with the backlight cable and there is already a socket for it on the mobo? or what?
2. I can find various foreign and US keyboards but dont seem to be able to find a UK backlit keyboard.
   - Is this available
   - What is its part No.
   - where can I get one

  • Backlit keyboard for Envy 17-j027cl ?

I just bought a HP Envy 17-j027cl from Sams Club last Friday. Love it, but the only thing I wish it had is a BACKLIT KEYBOARD.    I believe some models (with touch screen) have this; can I replace my keyboard with a HP backliit one for this model??  If so, how / who do I contact?

    Hi,
You already know some models have and many don't. The backlit keyboard alone won't help, you need a place on the motherboard to plug cable for all the lights. You can check yourself using the following video:

Well since the warranty is now over your left with replace keyboard or sell the laptop and get another one with a better quality keyboard. Those are you options.

  • Backlit keyboard no longer working.

I just recently upgraded my 2010 macbook pro RAM. I went from 4gb to 6gb and now my backlit keyboard is no longer working. I have tried messing with the keyboard settings as well as the F5 and F6 buttons. The keyboard does not even come on in low lit conditions. Why is my backlit keyboard no longer working?

    Hi...
Try Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If that doesn't help, try Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

  • Having trouble finding a driver/utility for backlit keyboard

I did a fresh install of Windows 7 and have come across a utility that I cannot find, its for the infrared sensors near the webcam that detects if you are near the computer and turns the backlit keyboard off if you are not sitting in front of it.

  • Nokia E6 backlit keyboard problem!

With brightness set to minimum and level 2, backlit keyboard doesn't work!
Please fix this big probem asap!

several years ago I wrote a post about the business model E70. I was so **bleep** off. certificates didn't work, vpn had to be configured only with provessional software or manually editing sis files. switching to landscape took forever and the first device update came 6 months after I bought it. Many more problems. Small yet annoying. Out of memory when browsing etc.Of course my post was deleted
When I read this board i see myself here. As far as I can see nothing changed. At least not for the better. By the way that E70 is still in use. I got a new battery from ebay and now my girlfriend is using it as a second phone. I bought her C7 for last christmas. The phone was practically unusable. It hanged so often that most of the time she was unreachable without noticing. It hanged so badly that even the clock was going out of sync. That was perhaps the only nokia i've seen where hardware power button didn't work when it hanged. I sold it 2 months ago for half the price I got it and you can't imagine how happy I was She is now with an android device. A toy, but a working one.
I got myself Nokia E52 when the device hit the market. On day 2 it was returned for repairs because of random reboots. 3 months later i got a refund (yes i know, it's just the way it is around here) and boutht E72. Fortunately I was aware of the problematic navigational button so I tested it first for a week. I must admit this is a perfectly working phone. For some reason it can't connect to the corporate Voip but that's the only problem i got with it. Well the only serious. IT's a fact that i couldn't get working navigation program for almost 8 months. The map for the country I live in was too simple for navigation. Materials and body is a joke compared to E71 but anyways it works. I was planning to get myself something new - E7, N8 but those bit screens are just not my type. So E6 Is my new hope. Of course I'll test / research it a lot before I get it. Sorry guys but that's the story. you spend 600-700$ just to become a beta tester. If you buy the flagman you get updates. If not - you wait for months. You will not get support from Nokia here. I know the brand is in your blood. The same here. Just do a lot of researching before bying a phone. Don't trust the reviews. They are often done measuring basic functions and they never report bugs. Go google for problems. There is the truth . Ah and never buy immediatly after release or even preorder Nokia phone. I guess much time will pass untill Nokia release a completely working device.
    Sorry for the offtopic.

  • Acer R13 Ghosting and Backlit Keyboard Noise - Return worthy?

Same stupid sound at night. Also cant disable that auto keyboard backlight disabler function, really annoying. Please fix that!Bios 1.09 core i5-5200 120gb ssd FullHD Acer R13 Windows 8.1Acer Aspire R7-371t-55XH

Hi, I bought an earlier R13 (Haswell i5, FHD screen) on sale. Thankfully, with the BIOS update the keyboard typing experience, while not perfect, is more than manageable for me so far. My two issues: 1) Upon setting up, I selected a darker color for the Windows menu background. When I switched to this, I notced a wide, fuzzy rectangular box-shaped area around the inside of the screen that was somewhat lighter in color, and two of the buttons on the screen left a ghost image within this shape while the system continued with setup. Worried about the ghosting issue noted elsewhere in this forum, I tried an image retention test found online and sure enough the checkerboard image stayed visible on the edges of the screen when I switched to grey. It returned to normal operations swiftly after that.  2) I have also experienced the high-pitched whine with the backlit keyboard on maximum. This is not audible on the lower setting or when it's off. It's very quiet, but nonetheless it's still there. Is this a common problem? Are there people out there who HAVE this issue but are okay with it? Given that the device is practically silent otherwise (that fan is darn near whisper level when it IS on), it's a minor but nonetheless present annoyance.
I can still return this unit - *should* I, and what's likely to happen if I don't?
I'm in the middle of evaluating the machine to see if it fits my needs. The form factor is amazing, and comiong from a home and workplace filled with Windows 7 machines Windows 8.1 was much easier to handle than I thought (and with W10 on the horizon I can only imagine it getting better). These two issues are the standouts for me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

  • A1260 vs A1226 keyboard and backlit keyboard differences

I've been using an a1260 and an a1226 macbook pro. I feel a difference in the keys on the a1226, it just has a better feel. in addition, the backlit keyboard seems brighter on the a1226. Has anyone else experienced this. I was thinking of switching keyboards?

Hi J, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
ifixit.com is usually pretty good about showing different models which their stock of parts fit. They list two different keyboards for those two models, with no interchangeability. That is not a definitive answer, however, as they cannot always be correct, and I do have to say, the two KBs look the same (in a quick once-over).
Here are a few parts and/or repair places you may want to check, both for price, and to see if they might show the KB as working on both machines. Good luck.
    powerbookmedic.com
    ifixit.com
    pbparts.com
    dttservice.com
    powerbooktech.com
    powerbookresq.com
    powerbookguy.com
    macrecycling.com/
EDIT: it sounds like you have the "new" KB already? I would usually play it safe in a situation involving expensive electronics, but if I had both parts in hand, looked them over well, it fit properly, and the connector was an exact match, I'd probably try it. OTOH, if you're only talking about a few bucks shipping, can get the correct part number, and can wait to get it, that's certainly better peace of mind.

Apple does make these, but they are not sold everywhere.  Where are you located?
Nobody in these forums represents Apple or any store, so to find out whether you can buy a particular product you will need to contact stores directly yourself.  In the US you can sometimes get unusual keyboards by talking to an apple retail store and asking for a special order.

  • Backlit keyboard and trackpad questions

I tried Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro and it works really well, but I encountered a few issues nontheless:
    1. Even when I turn the backlit keyboard all the way down, it's not completely off. How can I make it turn completely off?
    2. Is there a way to make the scrolling via two fingers more "controlable"? I checked the prefs for the mouse and, among other things, changed the speed of the pointer, but I couldn't find anything related to the speed of two-finger-scrolling. Also, double clicking with two fingers doesn't always work as well as it should.
    3. Lastly, are there any apps out there that makes support for the three-finger-swipe work in Windows 7? I've really become used to this wonderful feature and I would be sorry to not have it
    Hope you can help me.
    Thanks!
    -RN

    Hi,
    1. This problem will endure until Apple releases bootcamp support for w7. There are many issues regarding backlit kb settings(e.g. yours, and also not being able to turn it on at all).
    2. The same
    3. Try avoiding looking for third-party app for three finger functionality, wait for BC update only. Apple knows its hardware and writes good software that will enable those operations.
    cheers,

  • T430s and Backlit Keyboard FRU... is it possible?

Got my T430s today. Has the new keyboard BUT doesn't have the backlit feature. Hmm....
Is it possible to swap out the keyboard with one that does (like the one on the T430)?  Does anyone have any experience and/or FRU that works? I loved the dual light levels and the backlighting better than the overhead option.
    Cheers,
    JIM

    Good day.
I don't know if the T430 keyboards are interchangeable with the T430s, but you could compare the FRU P/Ns found in each model's Parts Listing. Or, you could just source a T430s backlit keyboard using the appropriate P/N. The keyboards are CRU.

    Hope this helps a bit.

  • Stop sign and Backlit keyboard

I was running my MBP on batteries and checked to turn the backlit keyboard down a notch, which it accepted. Then the "time remaining" on my menu clock went from black to red. I tried to turn the backlit keyboard up again, before and after reconnecting to the external power, and it doesn't move, it is off and there is a circle with a diagonal line below it (a stop sign).
I restarted. The keyboard preference has the "illuminate keyboard in low light conditions checked". I even tried to toggle it on and off.
    Nothing happens
    Thanks

What do you mean by the "Time remaining on my menu clock"?
I think he means the time remaining on his battery charge.
I tried to turn the backlit keyboard up again, before and after reconnecting to the external power, and it doesn't move, it is off and there is a circle with a diagonal line below it (a stop sign).
Did you move your MBP to a well-lit area while doing all this? The backlight only comes on when the ambient light sensor detects that it's dark enough. If it's still a problem, you may want to try resetting the SMC (KB article).
