Bad experience with Verizon Fios Internet and Customer Service

I had an extremely bad experience with Verizon Fios Internet service and I will never use Verizon again.
In August 2014, I called and installed the Verizon Fios Internet and phone bundle. I asked the customer agent several times if I will be charged anything before the installation of the Internet and phone service. She said, 'No, we will only start charging after the Internet and phone are installed at your apartment'. I went to the store and picked up the router and phone and installed it at home by myself. The router did not work. I called Tech support and they said it will take several days for another available agent to come and look into the issue. I decided to discontinue the service and closed the account that same night.
At the end of the month, I received a bill of $80 of activation fee for the internet service. Nothing was ever activated, my internet router did not work, and I got charged an activation fee for a service that I did not even start using. From August to December, I called customer service over 10 times and some of them said they will waive it while the others said it's a non-refundable activation fee. One lady said, 'Ma'am, the activation fee starts when you placed the order, the warehouse received it and packed the router in the boxes....' Isn't that ridiculous? If that's the case, please ask all your customer representative to say a clause before new customers open their account: Are you aware that you will be charged a non-refundable activation fee once you open the account regardless of whether or not you use the service or not.
So after 3 months (November 2014), I decided to get out of all these troubles and paid off my $80 activation fee. They put the bill in the collection agency and I called them and paid the overdue balance. Then in December 2014, I received a statement saying I have a $3.11 overdue balance. The collection agency told me that they will charge me for the whole activation fee and a $3 transaction fee for the transaction. So now Verizon came back and said I owed them the $3 because I paid the collection agency their transaction fee.
I am very disappointed and furious about the whole Verizon operating system. Charging a customer for an activation fee for a service s/he has not consumed or used does not make any business sense. In addition, they do not know how to coordinate with the collection agency on overdue bills. Give the customer a heads-up that they will be charged a transaction fee on top of the overdue balance, and that transaction fee does not count towards clearing the balance.
I have completely lost my confidence in Verizon albeit the many good feedback from my friends.

Hi crystallau52,
Sorry you are having difficulty. An agent with access to your account will reach out to you directly by email, private message in the Forums and/or the billing telephone number on your Verizon account for more information or to help you resolve your issue.

  • Email photos from iPhoto 8 with Verizon Fios internet

I am totally new to the wonderful mac world. I have a new iMac with Verizon Fios internet. When I try to automatically setup for emailing photos it tries to setup something with "incoming.yahoo....
How do I go about setting up email sharing of photos?

    mrmole
To email photos from within iPhoto you need to use one of the following applications for email:
    1. Apple's Mail (it comes with your Mac)
    2. Entourage
    3. AOL
    4. Eudora
Only these four apps allow direct emailing from within iPhoto. You make your choice in the iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> General pane.
OF course, you need to set up these clients to work for email with your own email settings. Fir details on how to do that you'll ned to consult the Help on the particular app.
If you use Web-based email, you cannot email from within iPhoto. In that case you can use one, some or any of the following:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    Regards

  • Verizon email support and customer service - simply horrible

After spending a frustrating and annoying morning trying to get Verizon Technical Support to help fix a problem with blocked access to Webmail, I notice on this forum that mine is not the only problem,.....except I have not seen the same issue denoted. I was attempting to get help to resolve an issue accessing WebMail where i get a screen that says:
"Sorry, You cannot access WebMail from [ip address] to due spam activity.  Please contact [email protected] for assistance."  yes, that is the actual message.  First....How the FREAK (polite word entered here) do you contact an EMAIL ADDRESS when you can't get to email?.  That's like hearing 'You have a problem with your telephone?...well just call me and we can fix the problem".  Second, after dialing support numbers twice (first time afer spending 35 minutes on hold, the person answering the phone hung up on me) the person that finally picked up after another 20 minutes on hold could not offer any help.  They had to enter a trouble ticket for IT to look into the problem.  When I requested a ticket number for reference, I was told they can't give me that because they really had no way to immediately enter a trouble report.  HELLO!?!  What good is support if you don't give the persons answering the phone access or authority to put in tickets? When queried about an estimated resolution time, I was told up to two billing cycles.  HELLO AGAIN?!?  My Verizon email is with the KEEPMYEMAIL plan....one year paid up front.  So this explanation, by itself, indicates up to two years to resolve an issue. I've been around for a few years and this is the worst I have experienced with Verizon...and I know that the company has very sophisticated trouble ticketing system....I was part of the team that built them and can assure anyone reading this message it was not designed to be difficult or inaccessible.  Verizon has changed and not for the better.  When a company hides behind email and circular voice response systems it's an indication that customer service is NOT their priority.  Think I joking?  Just look at the webpages and see if you can find a single customer relationship management contact that you can call or send a message or mail to.  All you find is a general correspondence address in St. Petersburg Florida.  If, by some miracle, this moves up the chain or authority, here's a thought.  Does this remind anyone of the MA BELL comedy sketch by Lilly Thomlin?  Isn't this attitude the same reason that Verzon was born out of the breakup of AT&T in the first place? Just sign me - Aisforannoyed

  • Iphone 4 cdma: bad experience with verizon customer service/store

I have been paying around $140 for my shared plan with Verizon. One phone in this line is an iphone4. I am travelling outside the country for the next couple of months and I wanted a solution from Verizon.
    1. Online chat: I asked this question to the chat reps and they told me to go to a store.
    2. Store: At the store I met a folks who did not understand the technical details of a cdma phone. He asked me if I could unlock it and use it. I explained why it is their responsibility to ensure that such a phone is unlocked. He then deferred to the store manager, who kind of seemed nonchalant about the whole situation said that he cannot do anything to help. When I asked what am I supposed to do with this phone after my contract he said that I could do what ever I want with it, he added that I could trade it in for 40 bucks ( while my friends make a couple ah 100 bucks on ebay after selling an unlocked iphone4). He told me to talk to verizon customer support.
    3. Customer support: I dialed in. I asked him a questions about why the company does not offer iphone 4's as a gsm while other service providers do and what value am I getting from paying for a device that I would never use post the contract. He said that verizon was late to provide unlocked phones and they started with the 4s.  I spoke to global support about the rental program that they offer for just 20 days. When I asked if they would make this an exception, they said they cant and the system (made by verizon) will track inventory and will not allow rentals over 20days. The final option was buying another phone for retail price.
Overall I wanted to express that I am completely disappointed in the way Verizon treats their customer. They talk about policies and how they cannot bend it to meet a customers requirement. I would have been the happiest person if they gave me a replacement phone and  not ask me to buy a new unlocked phone. Why am I paying for a service that does not help me during such situations?
    Thank you
    A sad customer...

I'm not sure that I understand what your complaint is.  Verizon Wireless does not offer GSM iPhones 4 because Verizon Wireless does not operate a GSM network.

  • Bad experience with Verizon store!

Yesterday, we went to the local verizon store in Wichita Falls, TX to add a line to my account for my daughter.  She is currently using a prepaid phone with ATT and we wanted to switch her over to our Verizon account.  She picked out a Nokia Lumia Icon that they had on display.  The sales rep that we dealt with went to get the phone and a lot of accessories for it for her to look through.  She decided not to get a case but she did want to get screen protectors.
The rep scanned the phone box and told us that instead of the $149.99 with a $50 rebate, they could do an instant rebate and would offer us $100 in free accessories.  Yay!  Great!  Free stuff is always good!  We went to look at accessories for our other devices as she had already decided that she didn't like the cases they had for her new phone.  We settled on a bluetooth keyboard case for our tablet.
At this point, the rep handed us off to his manager so he could go help other customers.  The manager went through the process of activating the phone.  She asked if we would like her to put one of the screen protectors on for us.  We answered that we would.  She attempts to put the protector on and it doesn't fit the phone.  After looking at it some, the reason it won't fit is that the phone they have is the Lumia 928 NOT the Lumia Icon she had picked out.
The manager looks into it and comes back to tell us that the 928, which is not on display anywhere in the store, is in stock.  The Icon is not in stock and would have to be ordered.  She asks if we want her to look up the differences in the phones, which we did.  The Icon has a better processor, 1/2 inch larger screen, and double the memory of the 928.  We told her that we did not want the 928 and for them to order the Icon.  They ended up having to order it from another store in the area because the warehouse showed it as "retired."
At this point, the manager we're dealing with returns all of the accessories and hands us the tablet to sign for another $40+ because they won't do the instant rebate or the free accessories with the Icon.
So we wasted over 2 hours in the store dealing with this mess, had them try to give us a phone we didn't want without telling us it wasn't the one we wanted, and promise free goodies just to take it all back when we told them that we wanted the phone that we asked for in the first place.
If it hadn't been for the screen protector, we would've walked out with a phone that was inferior to the one that she looked at in the store and would've been left to figure this out later.
Not sure if the bait-and-switch tactic is normal for Verizon stores, but this was a very aggravating situation that wasted a lot of our time.
Good customer service would've done something to try to make this right...like maybe making good on everything they had promised during the transaction!

I agree good customer service and getting everything they promised is a good start. At the same time we as customers should be looking at the box of the phone and the phone and do a better job inspecting what they bring us. After all we need to be paying attention as well. They could of had a person that is learning and could of not paid attention and knew about them being different phones. I am not making excuses for them as they do need to do more training with their new people if that was the case. But I agree with you and understand as it is a tough thing to have to deal with.

  • Verizon store personnel and customer service less than useless!!

I'll try and make this as short and concise as possible:
    1. went to Walmart to research cell phones and available carriers/plans.
    2. Verizon rep Melissa was in-store, introduced me to the prepaid $45/month plan and talked me into a "new" Motorola Luge.
    3. Researched the Luge, piece of crap two year old technology, rebranded Motorola M. Wanted to change phones, upgrade to Samsung S4 or Moto X.
    4. Tried to buy replacement phone online through Verizon website. Could not do so without paying another $45 monthly charge.
    5. Called customer service, was assured I could add the $45 for the new account I had to create in order to get the Samsung (which came with a new phone number) back on to my original account and phone number once I made the swap to the new phone.
    6. Received the new S4, swapped SIM cards, S$ now has my original number, Piece of crap Motorola returned for credit, new account and number no longer needed/active, $45.00 not credited to my original account. WHAT A TOTAL RIP OFF!!
The only good thing about Verizon is the coverage. BIG WASTE of time going to talk to the imbeciles (mostly youngsters working on commission that just want to sell you stuff, not solve problems) or trying to call customer service. Obviously CS folks are either ill informed or completely dishonest!!!
BEWARE ANYTHING YOU ARE TOLD BY ANY VERIZON REP!!!
I WANT MY $45 CREDIT TRANSFERRED TO MY ORIGINAL ACCOUNT!!!!

If your phone is less than one year old, it is still covered by the manufacturer's warranty.  I would take advantage of that and request another replacement.  It's your right as the consumer to request replacements until you get a device that works, that's in the contract you signed.  What's also in the contract you signed is that your replacements past the 14 day Worry Free Gaurentee period will be certified like new, AKA refurbished.  Verizon doesn't hide that information from you before you sign, it's all right there in the black and white text of your contract.
As far as Verizon being unwilling to sell you a new iPhone for $199, they refused to do it because it would cost them money.  When you signed your contract, you paid a subsidized price for the phone.  Verizon sold you that device at a LOSS, and planned on receiving 20-24 months of revenue from your monthly plan to make up that cost.  If they sold you a subsidized iPhone and put you in a new contract, they would never recover the LOSS that they took on the Blackberry Storm.  You can buy a new phone from Verizon at any time, at full retail price.  Buying a phone at full retail price is the only way to purchase a device that does not cost Verizon money up front.
My reccomendation?  Get another Storm replacement and see how it goes.  If that's still not the phone for you, look to eBay, Craigslist or friends/family for a used replacement.  Prices on eBay are likely to pretty good for older models of the iPhone now that the new hotness has been released.

  • Verizon's honesty and customer service has really sucked the last six months. Can anyone share information with me on transferring my service to Sprint?

Please share information on moving to Sprint or any other service that does not treat their customer like crap.

We really don't want to see you leave, john528.

  • Complaint regarding maintenance and customer service in Saudi Arabia

In beginning I apologize If Im in the wrong Forum..
But I do not know where can I send my complaint ?? Is There a way to communicate with Lenovo management ??
if they continue with this performance (maintenance and customer service)  this will negatively affect Lenovo reputation in market and they will lose a lot of customers.
My problem started when I bought a Lenovo Tablet Model IDEA S2109A-F Five months ago. After almost three Months the device was not charging.
I've sent to the agent for repair and for one and half month they did not perform any work and whenever I call often they does not response (during the official working time). and In the few times that they respond they says '' We are waiting for spare parts from Dubai ''
Then I contacted customer service last two weeks to tell them about my problem. They promised that they will answer me within 48 hours. Which never happened !!! And when I contact them again, they say they did not receive any response from the agent.
The tablets was a gift to my little son, he is very frustrating because of this issue.
This is my first time I with Lenovo products and I do not think I will repeat it again after this bad experience.
If someone care form Lenovo officials he can review  Ensure Saudi Arabia maintenance job order No.1594186

  • New Customer - Have had MISERABLE experience with Verizon service and Customer service

I am a brand new customer of Verizon Fios and so far I have zero good things to say about it.  If it wasn't for the aggrevation of switching cable companies, I most definitely would go back to Comcast.
I moved into a new home in the middle of April.  The previous owner had Verizon Fios in this house, so there was minimal installation that had to be done when I initially set up my cable.  My house was pretty much empty at the time, so we had the TV's set up where we had a place to put it (upstairs, kitchen, and living room).  We recently bought bedroom furniture, so we could now move the TV to where we initially wanted it, in our bedroom.  However when we tried to hook it up to an outlet, no picture came though.  This is when my awful experience with verizon customer service (or lack there of) began.
I took time out of my work day to call Verizon about this problem.  I was on hold for about 30 mins until I actually heard a human's voice.  He was unable to help me since I was not at home to unplug and plug things back in.
I called again when I was home, this time I was on hold for about 20 mins (wow)... the first person could not help me, so she transferred me to another department... put on hold for 35 mins.... this perosn couldnt help me either and they transferred me back to the SAME DEPARTMENT I WAS INITIALLY TRANSFERRED FROM.... put on hold for about 45 mins... finally i speak with someone that knows what they are talking about.  Of course I have to go through all the same steps that I did the first time which did not work.  As this person decides I need a technician, he begins to look up available dates... and then after an hour and 35 mins on the phone, it gets disconnected!  I wait for 5 minutes to get a call back but I get NOTHING.  I spent now 2 hours trying to deal with this and verizon doesnt even call me back when its their phone that gets disconnected? Thats terrible.
I call back after 10 mins and am put on hold right away (obviously).... after 25 mins of being on hold, shocker - the call is disconnected again.
That was enough for one day
I call back again the next day... same old thing... put on hold for 30 mins, talk to one person who cant help me, transferred to another department and put on hold for 20 more mins.
Finally with the tech department who says they are going to schedule a tech to come out to fix the problem but also mentioned they are going to charge me $55 for this! Are you kidding me?????? Verizon wastes about 4 hours of my life and busy day and then has the nerve to say they are going to charge me for it? I asked the person several times if I could speak with a manager or supervisor, they never let me.  I asked multiple times and she just said that they wouldnt be able to help me and that the charge would stick.
I can't imagine that anyone would treat a brand new customer like this.  I will not recommend Verizon to any one until I see some kind of help or REAL customer service from them.

I did call them this morning, and still on the phone.
I will say this - the reps are very friendly and do try to help in earnest.  That's been my experience overall with Verizon.  So in terms of the actual people, I give them an A+.
In terms of their system and how they process things, they get a big fat F.   The very idea that I sent back a phone with accessories and their warehouse only registered the return of the phone pretty much says that there is something fishy going on there at the warehouse.   And it took an hour to sort this out so far and counting.
The thing that bugs me about Verizon is how complicated it is to get everything straightened out.
Right now, they are trying to sort out the activation fee - I already have been charged one and now they are trying to figure out if i have to pay another one.   Another 15 minutes just on that.
Everything has been resolved.   Thankfully, Verizon's saving grace is that their reps are nice people.

  • Potential Fios Internet and TV Customer

    Hi all,
I'll be moving to the DC area within the next month, and I am considering getting the Verizon Fios TV and Internet bundle.  I will be a federal government employee, and I noticed there is a discount for federal employees for Wireless.  Is there also a discount for TV and internet services?  Thanks!

Hey we are sorry we offer bundle discount on our FIOS services but there are no discounts for federal employees.

  • My misadventures with Verizon FIOS

FIOS recently became available to my building, a 125 apartment condo.  A salesperson,{edited for privacy}and an accomplice, came to sign up new accounts and they had a field day.  The only competition is Comcast and residents were eager to be free of their evil clutches.  [management won't allow satellite, probably illegal.]  The lobby was crowded with potential customers and I asked Sheridan to call me cuz I didn't have time to wait.
He called from his car phone and signed me up on his drive home!  I told him my needs:  least expensive and no frills TV to be used with TiVO (requiring a cable card) and fast internet, 25mb.  He seemed unhappy that he couldn't sell me more but I knew what I wanted.  He said he'd sign me up for the Spanish package, La Complexion, or something like that, because it was the only no frills package.  I told him no hablo espanol, but that seemed to be no problem.  Installation would be the upcoming Saturday.
Okay, I could go on endlessly here, but the installation date was completely botched by Sheridan, not to mention he didn't return calls or emails.  ["I'm not just here to sell you the service, I'll always be here to help with any problems."  Yes, he said that!
The installer came out the following Saturday even though Sheridan told me there was no way the installation could be done until further notice because there were issues with the wiring.  It's a good thing I was home, well, maybe not.
Meanwhile, I never got any paperwork or an exact cost, only an estimate.  The installer did a good job and got the job done in 2 hours.  The first sign of a problem was when he asked which phone I wanted to hook up.  Huh?  I didn't ask for phone service.  The installer said he didn't have access to what plan I had, which didn't seem to be an issue.  Next sign of a problem was when I was able to get all the premium channels.  Sheridan seemingly signed me up for a tad more than I asked for.
I called Verizon to figure out what was going on.  Sales supervisor {edited for privacy} listened with seeming disbelief to my story, sympathized, empathized and apologized profusely, and said he would call back in 2 days.  Stupid me believed him.  I forgot I was dealing with Verizon.  He couldn't access my records right then and there since my account was too new and not on the system.  But he did determine I was signed up to the most expensive plan.  It's now 7:30pm and no call from Nick.  Meanwhile, I've had service 3 days and today, no TV.  Tech support couldn't figure out what the problem is and they have to send out a technician.
Can I just say shades of Verizon DSL, the worst customer service nightmare I ever had!  Fortunately, Comcast hasn't disconnected service yet and yes, I'm going back.  I would have thrown out the FIOS modem and router by now but I left my own router at work thinking I was done with it and was going to give it away.  Or maybe I'll keep the Verizon router, it's very nice and I deserve it.  There really is truly something wrong with this company.  I really wish an OTA antenna worked from my apartment, but I think, for now, it's back to the less evil Comcast.

to gsusser: "He called from his car phone and signed me up on his drive home!"
----I personally think cell phones are the worst invention.  That scenario that you described is unfortunate.  Personally, I would only sign up for services by calling the business number if I didn't have the time to wait for a rep in the lobby so then that way, everything can be documented instead of having miscommunication on someone's cell phone while that person is driving....just saying.  Driving while speaking on a cell phone is so dangerous.  I just don't think I would go along with signing up for services in that manner.  In a way, it's understandable how everything got messed up given the way this sales person handled it because without a computer system right there for him to document your order and to create a record, it leaves too much room open for a  "he said/she said" scenario and miscommunication about what you really want.  It sounds to me like he was looking to make more sales by any means necessary, probably due to a sales quota that he was trying to meet.
At this point, before switching back, you could follow through with having a technician to come look at the problem since you have made it this far.  It's only a suggestion and hopefully you could get a 4 hour time frame instead of an all day appointment for that.
I'm going to be sending a written complaint soon to Verizon's corporate office about some other issues I have had with their customer service.

  • My experience in Toshibas product and customer services

Just a warning to people who may be considering purchasing a Qosmio based on my own experiences and the research I have done in the last week.
Toshibas customer service is simply not what it once was and there are 100s of reports of Qosmios of all generations suffering extreme issues just outside of warranty periods.
Ref: Toshiba Qosmio X500-149, Support call reference ********
I am writing to express my frustration, anger and disappointment in Toshibas product and customer services.
I am a Freelance Community Manager, Video Game and hardware reviewer in the video games industry presently looking after 2 communities for 2 employers totalling over 2.5m users, I travel to a lot of trade shows, expos and community meet and greets where I require a laptop suitable of showing the employers products which are usually AAA video games or editing video on the fly for publication to social networking sites.
In January of 2011 my 4 year old Alienware hit that point where it really needed replaced, I opted for a Toshiba Qosmio over the Asus G73 as there was a 300 price difference for near identical spec.
I managed to source a X500-149 at PCWorld the companies flagship model here in the UK paying 1499 for it on January 26th 2011 reduced from 1799.
For the 1st 13 month this laptop performed admirably aside a design issue of the fan guards that I raised on the 16th May 2011 with PCWorld where the heat expelled causes the rear guard plastics to become exceptionally brittle and crack. I evangelised the product to anyone who asked me what laptop and model it was that was running these AAA games in such great detail, something I certainly won't be doing in future.
In early March 2012 it then began randomly locking up requiring a hard reboot this would then suffer issues restarting, reporting Operating system could not be found this would usually point to a fault on the primary HD, disk checking software however reported no errors but this continued to happen which would lead me to suspect the motherboard.
Within a month of this problem starting the left laptop fan began making a horrible screeching noise and had a distinct wobble whenever high RPM's were required and the machine began to often go into thermal shut-down whilst performing my work duties and utilising graphics and higher than idle CPU.
I decided on the 23rd April 2012 that enough was enough and I was going to speak to Toshiba as for this to happen to a flagship laptop that was only just out of warranty was simply unacceptable.
23rd April called to report the issue and was basically told tough luck its out of warranty at this point I also updated my tel numbers with Toshiba as the info was outdated, after expressing my anger at this Toshiba agreed to offer me a extended warranty at a cost of 166.
I was fuming to say the least Toshibas flagship laptop breaks at 14 month old and I am expected to stump up more money. If I was not desperate as the machine is critical to my work I would have returned the machine to PCWorld under the sales of goods act and it not being fit for purpose.
As that course of action would likely lead to legal proceedings, engineer reports and even more delay than just dealing with Toshiba for a repair, against my better judgement I called back at 11am on 24th April paid the 166 and took Toshiba up on the warranty extension, order number ********** again having to provide correct tel numbers as where once again incorrect, immediately after I reported the faults.
Toshiba Support centre on fault reporting where great noting each issue in detail and raised a collection with UPS for the following day.
The evening of the 24th April whilst I was retrieving data from the laptop in preparation for factory resetting it the machine went into thermal shut-down with a very distinct smell of burning chemical/plastic coming from the rear vents.
It took me over 90 minutes to get the machine cool enough to actually reboot and get my data after this I shut it back down and boxed it up not be used again.
I thought the best course of action would be to report this as it was a fair step up from the previous overheating. Wednesday 25th April at around 9am I called Toshiba to report this and was advised this would have to be dealt with by a head office case manager, as the item had become hazardous thus the collection that would take the laptop to the service centre was cancelled.
At this stage the advisor took my contact numbers again and escalated the case to head office advising at that time that I would be called by HO within 24 hrs.
Thursday 26th April 15:31 Well past the 24 hr mark and no sign of a call so I called support again and spoke to a advisor called Jacob. Jacob advise that HO had indeed tried calling on 01670 ******* this number was my old number, this number was the number I had advised twice already was incorrect and had provided both a correct land-line and mobile number 3 times previously. To say I was annoyed was a understatement.
Jacob attempted to contact Chloe Sontag who was looking after my case but the line just rang out so Jacob advised that he had sent an email asking for Chloe to contact myself.
Friday came and still no contact by 15:00 so I called support who once again tried to patch me to Chloe who's number once again just rang out and again an email was sent asking to call me.
No call by 17:30 so I called tech support again and spoke to Ian asking for head offices number so I could call them direct, Ian provided the number yet advised that HO are now closed.
After expressing my frustration with this whole process and just how critical this machine is to my daily working life Ian promised to look into the case on Monday AM and try and expedite actually getting a phone call to at least start the process of having this laptop repaired.
To say I'm annoyed is really a understatement not only has this failure to receive a simple phone call at least delayed the repair by almost a week but it is costing me more and money daily when I spent a large amount on what I imagined would be a great laptop for 3-4 years and believed Toshiba actually had good customer service in the event something did happen.
My best guess is that Chloe is on holiday or is part time or such like as her phone just rings out and if that is the case then I would question why assign a case to her, if she isn't then I would want to know why after 2 additional mails advising that the customer is not happy and to contact them has there been no contact or are your case workers just so overworked with faulty products that they can't manage the workload ??
So far Toshibas inability to produce a product that last as long as you expect it would has cost me 2 days off work that I am having to make up this weekend thus cancelling prior commitments, 166 extended warranty 600 for a HP laptop that I had to go and purchase yesterday 27th April 2012 to actually perform my work on and who knows how much in phone calls by the time this matter will finally be resolved.
I was happy with Toshiba as a manufacturer and of course laptops can have issues however having now researched these issues far to many Qosmio X500 users report severe overheating just after the 12 month period or within it and many state that repair after repair has taken place but still to no avail, this on top of the cracking of the rear heat-sink guards has to be a design fault.
This letter will not arrive with you before I have hopefully had a phone call and my laptop has at least been collected for repair, If I have not had that phone call then I would expect another letter very shortly.
Why have I wrote this letter ? To express my disappointment with just how poor the durability of your flagship laptop is and also at just how poor your customer service are, 1500 is a lot of money in the PC purchasing scheme of things and to expect this quality of hardware and customer service is simply unacceptable.
I expect the repair to be expedited and if like some of the horror storys I have read online parts required will take 4 weeks + then I would expect a replacement laptop, not everyone uses these things for entertainment and whilst the HP I had to rush out and buy with money I didn't really have available can allow me to perform my core duties to the minimum it cannot allow me to perform my duties to my standards, my employers standards or my expectant communities standards.
This has been a really unfortunate series of events as I had been considering the X870 Ivy Bridge based on the Nvidia 670m Qosmio which would release soon and passing this X500 onto my partner but after these events and the fact that the HP laptop had to come out of the money saved for it then I can categorically state that will not be the case and I will instead opt for the Asus G55 or G75.
If this issue cannot be resolved to a satisfactory manner then I will have no option but to seek an independent engineers report as well as printing the myriad of similar reports of these issues on the internet and return the item to PCWorld.
In line with the sale of goods act 1979 a large electrical item has to be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose for a period of 6 years whilst I wouldn't expect the full 6 years from a laptop I would expect at least 3-4 year especially considering that this is a near 2000 flagship model not a 200 budget model.
This is a action I really do not want to take as it will likely end in small claims court against PCWorld a company that on this occasion has done nothing wrong, I do not believe in punishing those who are not at fault so its a action I really wouldn't be happy with and I'm sure PCWorld one of if not the largest vendor of Toshiba products when you incorporate the rest of the DSG group wouldn't be too pleased with it either.
    Frustratingly

So I received my laptop back today after having fans replaced and a good clean as well as the top cover replaced.
Opened the box and took the laptop out 1st thing I noticed was a screw rattling around inside, SIGH!!!!
Plugged the laptop in and attempted to boot it at this point it just cycle through finalisation of windows install and shutdown.
How could a laptop have been tested if it didn't even have windows installed ?
An hour later and I gave up unplugged it and lo and behold it actually booted when on battery only.
I then noticed that the SSD was full, oh wait no it wasn't the head office engineer in his infinite wisdom decided that partitioning a 64GB SSD to 2 drives barely even leaving enough for Windows on the C: and wait for it putting the HDD recovery on the second partition was a good course of action.
So a completely borked install and a screw floating around inside remind me how this particular engineer has a job ??
I spent the next 15 minutes just moving data around and creating and deleting partiitions to fix this mess up.
Grabbed HWMonitor to check temps and at an idle 50c on CPU and 36c on GPU they didn't look too bad,
Installed the Toshiba recommended Nvidia driver a driver I hasten to add that was released in 2010 as Toshiba have not updated the drivers for their flagship series laptop since then, They are happy to take your 1643 that the unit cost but then don't expect support for it.
Anyway that aside I then installed 1 of the games I work on and began to run the machine through our benchmark software wooooosh the temps shot up to 90c+ on both CPU and GPU and remained at this temp for the duration of the benchmark never quite triggering thermal shutdown, I then loaded into a warzone for further testing and sure enough half way through it the machine shut down due to thermal shutdown.
I then uninstalled the toshiba driver and tried a NVidia one sure enough as others have advised actual Nvidia drivers seem worse and thermal shutdown came so much earlier.
I have been to PCWorld today to begin proceedings of returning outside of warranty due to not being fit for purpose or of suitable quality. This is costing me a further 60 and at least 2 weeks more without a proper machine and will likely result in me getting about 1300 back from PCWorld.
So lets do the math on just what this will have cost me by the time its finished.
    1634 Original purchase
    166 Extended Warranty
600 Backup Laptop whilst this was away for a month
    60 outside of warranty assessment
    50 phone calls
I will probably receive 1300 back but then 1300 doenst buy me the spec I need for work so I will have to pull out another 300-400 for the required spec so lets add that to the original figures.
A Toshiba Qosmio, Toshibas flagship laptop will have cost me in total 2910 almost double its actual retail price.
I will NEVER buy a Toshiba product again and it will become my lifes mission to let everyone know just how terrible they are.

  • Sudden increase in Verizon FIOS internet & digital voice problems. No resolutions.

We have had Verizon FIOS internet since Jan. 2008.  It has been reasonably reliable.  No disconnects... until mid-Dec 2012 when they started with a vengeance.  E-mail connections dropped (we had to re-start Outlook).  Usually, we couldn't "see" them in internet connections, but ping tests proved that they were occurring between aboaut 4 p.m. and midnight, rarely, if ever, during other hours of the day.
We have had Verizon FIOS digital telephone (conversion from analog) for about one year.  It has reasonably reliable until mid-Dec when multiple problems occurred:  no stutter tone for voice mail, no notification on telephone "screen" for voice mail, no callers' names on "screen" (only "Out of Area"), and so on.  Each time, Verizon re-sets "the line" and it's okay for 24 to 36 hours, maybe 48 hours, if we're lucky.
We've called repair over 20 times, which is above and beyond what sane people would do.  Now, we've had EEE-NUFF.
Has anyone had the same experiences?  If yes, how did you resolve them?
We're ready to chuck Verizon, but we haven't heard anything good about the few competitors around here.  That is, we don't want to go from the frying pan into the fire, BUT we want the above-noted problems fixed.
    Thank you.

    Hi.
You have to configure Port Forwarding on the Verizon FIOS Modem Router for iChat.
    http://support.actiontec.com/doc_files/MI424WR_Rev._G_User_Manual_30.16.0_v1.pdf
    Excerpt from pages 109 & 110:
"To set up basic port forwarding:
    1. Click the arrow next to “IP Address forward to or select from menu” to display  a menu and either enter the IP address of the item to port forward from, or choose an item from the drop-down menu (choose your machine by host name, since the internal ip address changes from time to time, after the lease time expires).
    2. Click the arrow next to “Application to forward...” and select a pre-configured application from the drop-down menu (if iChat is not present in the list, you'll have to set up Advanced Port Forwarding).
    3. Click Apply. The new port forwarding rule appears in the “Applied rules” table at the bottom of the screen. "
" To set up advanced port forwarding (custom ports):

    2. Enter the host name (from the drop-down list) or local IP address of the computer providing the service in the “Specify IP” text box. Note that only one local network computer can be assigned to provide a specific service or application.
    3. Click Advanced.
    4. Select the Internet protocol to be provided from the “Protocol” drop-down list.  Depending on the protocol selected, additional options appear in the screen.
    5. Select the connection with which this port forwarding rule will be active from the “WAN Connection Type” drop-down list.
    6. To select a port to forward communications to (this is optional), select “Specify” from the “Forward to Port” drop-down list, then, in the text box that appears, enter the port number. If no port is identified, select “Same as
    Incoming Port.”
    7. If this port will be active all the time, select “Always” from the “Schedule” drop-down list. If the rule will only be active at certain times, select “User Defined” and click Add. Then, add a schedule rule (for more details about
schedule rules, see the “Advanced Settings” chapter of this manual).
    8. If source and destination ports need to be specified, select Specify from the drop-down menu list (by clicking on the appropriate arrow), then entering the port numbers.
    9. Click Apply to save the changes. The new port forwarding rule appears in the “Applied rules” table at the bottom of the screen."

  • Registered with Verizon My Domain and cannot access email

I have spent the past TWO DAYS trying to get assistance from Verizon customer support.  I have talked with EIGHT different representatives and none of them know how to help me.
Last week I registered my verizon.net email with Verizon Your Domain and paid the $19.95 annual fee to keep my email address.  After receiving a confirmation that my transaction was successful and complete, I proceeded to cancel my Verizon home phone and internet service.  Verizon cancelled my email when they cancelled my phone and internet.
I was told via email from a Verizon Your Domain specialist that I needed Broadband Essentials to keep my email.  I DO NOT NEED INTERNET SERVICE.  I HAVE INTERNET SERVICE.  According to Verizon Your Domain I do not need Verizon internet to keep my email!
If this isn't bad enough, I've been charged TWICE and I still have no email!
Can someone please help me?  I followed the instructions to a T and have spent two hours on the phone with absolutely NO RESOLUTION!
    Solved!
