BAM add-in error in 32-bit Excel 2010

Hello All
I'm trying to work with BAM excel add-in with 32-bit Excel 2010, when I try to open the excel I get the dialog box with "Automation error, Unspecified error", and hit on the OK button, it took me to the following VBA screen, and I try to debug
it to see where it fails, but it throws the same error again. Any idea what is missing or what is causing this?
I'm on Windows 7 Enterprise with BizTalk 2010.
Thanks
Bhava

Hi Bhava,
Fix for this problem is available now.
Office 2010 w SP1 - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2597986
Steps to fix the problem manually
The manual fix for this problem is to re-register MSCOMCTL.OCX. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Open an administrative-level command prompt. The command prompt MUST be on the administrative level for this to work. Click START, and type RUN in the run command line. On Windows Vista and Windows 7 you will see CMD.EXE appear in the quick search list.
Right click CMD.EXE and left click Run As Administrator. A black command prompt opens. On Windows XP, there is no built-in run-as-admin, but you can use the run as menu option (or runas command line) to execute an admin command from a Limited User Account.
2. If on a 64-bit machine, type the following:
regsvr32.exe /u  C:\Windows\SysWOW64\MSCOMCTL.OCX
Hit ENTER
then type
regsvr32.exe  C:\Windows\SysWOW64\MSCOMCTL.OCX
If on a 32-bit machine, type the following:
regsvr32.exe /u C:\Windows\System32\MSCOMCTL.OCX
Hit ENTER
then type
regsvr32.exe C:\Windows\System32\MSCOMCTL.OCX
Your Excel  BAM Addin should work again after doing this.

  • OraOLEDB.Oracle Provider Not Found- Windows 7 64 bit Excel 2010 32-bit Help

Currently, I have an excel 2010 application that users on Windows XP 32 bit are using to connect to an Oracle 32-bit database and extract data back into Excel. Each time they open the Excel file, the VBA code automatically creates a new connection using Provider =ORA.OLEDB.Oracle Provider. All users using the Excel file have installed Oracle 9.2.1 run-time client on their machine. All of that works well currently for over 100+ users on Windows XP 32-bit
Starting very shortly our company is moving to Windows 7 64-bit. We acquired a test PC with Windows 7 64-bit and Excel 2010 32-bit. We tried to install Oracle 9.0.2 run-time client but we couldn't connect to the database ( even with Sql Plus). We therefore downloaded Oracle 10g 10.2.04 Run-time client. With this installed, we were able to connect to via SQL Plus to the database. However, using the same Excel file and the following same VBA code.
    Set cn = New ADODB.Connection
    cn.Open ThisWorkbook.getDBCon()
    Public Function getDBCon()
    getDBCon = "Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;" & _
    "Data Source=MyOracleDB;" & _
    "User Id=" & getDBUser() & ";Password=" & getDBPss()
    End Function
I get a "Provider Not Found error". The VBA code and file work perfect in XP 32-bit. It seems going over to Windows 64-bit has caused issues with the file's macro. I am looking for help assessing if I have more of an Oracle Client issue or a Microsoft ADO issue. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

    @damorgan
Yea agreed with Excel to Oracle comment. This is due to issues with global implementation of an ERP system and the disconnets between IT and Business. Therefore the business intelligence tables in oracle are most easily pulled and acted on by novice PC users via Excel. In the business, Excel is the standard tool novice non-IT people feel comfortable in to share and act on data. Most of these users have no IT knowledge whatsoever, so we create buttons and filters for them to query and then massage in Excel as they see fit.
Having said that, still wondering if it's a ADO or Oracle Client issue. This is something beyond my knowledge. I wouldn't imagine it's the Visual Basic issue since this same file works in Windows XP. I am not in the position to just scrap Excel as the business relies on this in production and I am the only support. What could 64 bit vs 32 bit differences be having here? Thank You.

  • Measure Add-in won't install in Excel 2010

I've used Measure 2.0 on other computers successfully, including one running Excel 2007 with the VBA converter pack.  However, I cannot seem to add it to Excel 2010.  It is listed and selected in the Active Add in list, however it does not show up in the Add-ins menu with my other add-ins.  Any suggestions?

    Hi Jessica,
I am sorry to tell you that unfortunately, the Measure product reached it's End of Life date back in 2009, prior to Excel 2010. Please see the product page here:

  • Problem accessing informix ODBC 32 bit System DSN using Microsoft Query external data sources in Microsoft Excel 2010

    Hi all...
I'm hoping if anybody could help me. I'm using Microsoft Excel 2010 + Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I've installed the informix client sdk for odbc drivers to create odbc 32 bit connection. Before this, i had successfully installed in
another Windows 7 Professional 64 bit PC the informix client drivers and configured the odbc connection for it. During that time, i can access the 32 bit ODBC using the microsoft query from the Microsoft Excel 2007. But now...in the new PC, even though i had
successfully installed the informix client and manage to configure the 32 bit ODBC for it, my Microsoft Excel 2010 can't call/recognise the 32 bit ODBC connection as if the Microsoft Excel 2010  only called the 64 bit ODBC. Is it in Microsoft excel 2007
it is possible to recognise the 32 bit ODBC but the Microsoft Excel 2010 can't? Is there any solution if my Microsoft Excel 2010 still want to use the 32 bit ODBC connection.

    Hi,
Excel 2007 has only 32-bit since 64-bit applications for Office are available only for Office 2010. Thus, you can use
32 bit ODBC between Microsoft Excel 2007 & Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. Now, you are using Microsoft Excel 2010 64 bit & Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, thus, you must install the 64 bit ODBC drive. If you still need to use 32
bit odbc drive, please use 32 bit Excel 2010. Here is the detailed steps:

  • MS Excel 2010 usage High Memory

    hi Friends,
we have facing High Memory usage problem as soon as open excel 2010 large size Excel Workbook, we have all branded PC with 2GB physical memory installed on it. Users facing performance issue when they open large size  Excel file, we observe that  when
users open large size Excel file excel start to uses high memory & Hang a PC, users unable to open others file when open excel sheet.
I have done many changes on computers by searching technet article but useless, We have also checked it by increasing physical memory but still we facing same problem,
Any body has resolution of this problems, then please share a solutions.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Pardeep

    Hi Pardeep,
According to your description, I suppose you are using Excel 2010 32bit version. As far as I know, the Excel 2010 32bit version the max of RAM usage is 2 GB. Thus, if we add more physical memory, 32bit version can't use it. I recommend you use Excel
64bit version to open/edit the large workbook.
The 64-bit version of Excel 2010 is not constrained to 2 GB of RAM like 32-bit applications. Therefore, 64-bit Excel 2010 enables users to create much larger workbooks. 64-bit Windows enables a larger addressable memory capacity, and 64-bit Excel is designed
to take advantage of that capacity. For example, users are able to fill more of the grid with data than was possible in previous versions of Excel. As more RAM is added to the computer, Excel uses that additional memory, allows larger and larger workbooks,
and scales with the amount of RAM available.

Nope. It is for Excel 2013 only (Office 365).

  • ALM Excel Add in error

    Product – ALM
    OS – Windows 7
    MS Office version – 2007
I have ALM -excel add in installed in my MS excel. When I click on ‘export to ALM’, an error comes up – “compile error in hidden module:CTDServer”
I went into the VB editor and found that the OTA COM Library is missing. I  tried re-installing the add in and my MS office, but in vain. It seems like the library is getting installed in a different location in XP and in win7. Has anyone installed the add in successfully on a Win 7 machine ? IS there any compatibility issue with Win 7 and MS office 2007 and ALM ?
Also, i dont have admin rights on my machine.
Please let me know how to resolve this issue.

This is rather easy to fix - You may need admin privledges but I dont think do.  Are you familiar with opening up the VBCODE behind MS Excel (Alt + F11)?  We need to make a change there (Refrences change to the TDADDIN) and that will resolve your issue.  I am a QC Admin for a extraordinarily large company with thousands of QC users spread across the globe so I see almost every error imaginable on every type of OS, version of Excel, Windows, you name it and this is a common one but one of the easier ones to fix.  [Personal Information Removed]

  • Essbase excel add-on error after installing IR Studio.

    Hyperion software compatibility issues?
Getting Essbase excel add-on error ("Error 1040007 Cannot find message database") after installing Hyperion Interactive Reporting Studio 9.3.1. We are able to consistently reproduce the error on several workstations.
    Any ideas?
    Thx,
    Ernesto

Try installing IR first, followed by the Essbase client. I think that worked for us. I can't recall what our path looked like in that scenario I just remember if we did it in that order things worked fine. I think Support said there is no certain "install order" that truly fixes the problem, that you have to manipluate the path by hand. But I'm pretty sure installing IR first worked in our enviro.
I do not know of a way to install IR Studio without the Essbase components, my understanding from Support is that they changed the product install thinking it was better this way, they learned after the fact it actually causes the problem you experienced. I would imagine they've changed/fixed the install behavior again in post 9.3.1 releases, but haven't heard.

  • Excel Trying to Load PowerPivot Add-in (version 11.1.3129.0) for Excel 2010 even after Uninstalltion of the Add-in.

    Hi all,
I am trying to Package and deploy Powerpivot Add-in for Excel 2010. I have the Powerpivot_X86_(11.1.329.0) .MSI which installs Unattended, but Uninstallation will not remove entry from COM ADD-IN list in Excel and at first re-launch (even after
Power Pivot Uninstallation) it will try to load Powerpivot add-in and will give an error.
Downloading file.///c:/Program files (x86)/Microsoft analysis services/AS Excel Client/110/Microsoft.AnalysisServices.XLHost.Addin.VSTO did not succeed.
this above path is the [InstallDir] which gets wiped off with the unistallation of the .MSI. So, before uninstallation,I stop the excel process and am running a script to delete HKCU Add-in Reg key entries.
and also, I thought it may be implicitly loading the add-in from folder such as,
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\XLstart
    %appdata%\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART
    but nothing is installed there.
    Second Issue
    when I re-install,
it doesn't automatically show up in the Excel ribbon (even after reboot and even if regeistries are created at the same location) but instead we should add it through COM ADD-IN list in Excel Manually.
    Appreciate any idea's and suggestion's.
    P.S
is it possible to make it completely installed per system rather having user entries?

Guys, I think I solved the
    issue:
    Symptoms
    1. Power Pivot SQL 2012 32-bit installed over the old version without
    deinstalling it
    2. Installed with a user with administrator rights
    3. It worked under the profile with admin rights, it didn't work under the
normal users w/o admin rights and threw this error message: Downloading file.///c:/Program files (x86)/Microsoft analysis services/AS Excel Client/10/Microsoft.AnalysisServices.XLHost.Addin.VSTO
    did not succeed.
    4. In the admin profile, it went to the path "110":  C:/Program
    Files (x86)/Microsoft Analysis Services/AS Excel
    Client/110/Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Modeler.FieldList.vsto
    5. In the normal profile, it went to the - wrong - "10" path:
    C:/Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Analysis Services/AS Excel
    Client/10/Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Modeler.FieldList.vsto
    SOLUTION
    1. ADMIN: Installed VSTO 4.0
    2. ADMIN: Checked if the .NET Programmability Support was installed - it was -
    if not, install it!
    3. NORMAL USER: Create a .reg file (Backup your registry before!) and
use it UNDER THE NORMAL USER!!!
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel][HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins][HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Modeler.FieldList]
"Description"="Microsoft SQL Server PowerPivot for Microsoft Excel"
    "FriendlyName"="PowerPivot for Excel"
    "LoadBehavior"=dword:00000003
    "Manifest"="C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Analysis Services\\AS
    Excel Client\\110\\Microsoft.AnalysisServices.XLHost.Addin.vsto|vstolocal"
    "CartridgePath"="C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Analysis
    Services\\AS OLEDB\\110\\Cartridges\\"
    4. NORMAL USER: Rename the registry key
    "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\User Settings\Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Modeler.FieldList"
    into
    "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\User
    Settings\Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Modeler.FieldList_old"
    5. NORMAL USER: Start up Power Pivot and it should
    work now!
    Analysis
IMHO the issue lies in the fact, that the Power Pivot
    installer creates two problems:
The first issue is that the path to the add-in under
the NORMAL user is simply wrong and points to a wrong location (the
"10" in the path). In the admin profile, where it was originally
installed, it points to the "110" path which is correct.
The second issue is that the installation procedure
somehow needs to create a registry key (the one under point 4 in the solution)
to complete it self and if this key already exists it fails to install and
throws up weird error messages. If you delete or rename this key, it is created
again (exactly in the same way) but then everything works out.
    Hope this
    helps!
    Regards, Reto

  • Excel 2010 cannot complete this task... Error in a shared spreeadsheet

    The layout
A server in an office connects 5 computers running windows 7 and using MS office plus 2010(32bit) and 1 computer running XP using MS office plus 2007(32bit), they are all 64bit OS's besides xp. They share many spreadsheets that are opened, edited and updated
simultaneously off the server. Since the spreadsheets need to be referred to each other, 2 up to 5 excel files must be opened on the computer I'm working on.
I'm working with a computer that has the following error during reading and writing to spreadsheets.
"Excel cannot complete this task with available resources choose less data or close Other applications"
This error occurs simply because excel has used up all the resources. However I'd like to avoid the simple "close redundant spreadsheets" because sooner or later they will need to be used.
The problem is that its only one computer that is having this problem all other computers don't get this error despite having equal amount of spreadsheets opened as the problematic computer. We've upgraded the ram and graphics card on that computer yet problem
persists. I'm aware of the 2gb ram access restriction office 32bit has.
The only solution I can think of would be to install a 64 it version of office on this computer set the default program that opens the file to the 64bit excel version (only for the problematic computer). Will cause errors? Seeing as other computers run 32bit
    office?
Does anyone know of any other ways of doing this? When the error occurs the file is locked and all data that is entered into the file after that is lost. Thanks in advanced

    Hi,
Do these five pcs have the same hardware?
As far as I know, the above memory error messages can be very generic and don't always identify the real cause of the issue. Please follow the KBs below, try the methods and check if they are helpful.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2779852
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2655178
Then, I agree with you, we can update the Excel to 64bit version. Because the max RAM usage of the Excel 2010 32bit version is 2 GB. Even if we add more physical memory, 32bit version won’t be able to use it.  I recommend you use Excel 64bit
version to open/edit the large workbook instead. The 64-bit version of Excel 2010 is not constrained to 2 GB of RAM usage like 32-bit applications does.
    Hope it's helpful.

  • Essbase Excel Addin on 64 Bit Windows 7 and 64 bit Office 2010

    Hi Everyone,
I have installed 11.1.2.2 on server with Essbase and Shared Services.
Now, on the client I have 64 bit Windows 7 and 64 bit office 2010.
I tried installing Excel Addin client only (without Essbase client) and restarted machine after install.
After install Addin didnt come up automatically and i tried to manually set the add-in, I'm getting an error "This is not a valid add-in"
Is it because i am using 64 bit of office and have to go back to 32 bit.
Isnt 64 bit supported for latest 11.1.2.2 Essbase ?
Any ideas or experience in this regard will be helpful to me as our company is going for Windows 7 and Office 2010 across the business users and if 64 bit Office is not supported or has issues i would have to suggest them to go with 32 bit Office 2010.
    Thank you.

  • Re: Essbase Add-in and Excel 2010

I have a user who is getting the following error:
Excel experienced a serious problem with the 'c:\oracle\middleware\epmsystem11r1\products\exceladdin\bin\essexcin.xll" add-in. . . .Do you want to disable this add-in?
Do we need to reinstall the Essbase add-in ?
I have had the user disable other add-ins via 'File > Options > Add-ins > Excel add-ins and that didn't resolve the problem.
Are there any compatibility issues with 64 bit Excel?
Also, after installing Essbase add-in, what are the items that should appear
    'File > Options > Add-ins > Excel add-ins
    Excel version : 2010
Add-in version Essbase Spreadsheet add-in, Fusion Edition 11.1.2
I would appreciate a quick response.

    'File > Options > Add-ins > Excel add-ins
The user has the following items:
    Essexcin.
    In2Hyp Essbase ribbon.
    Oracle Essbase Query Designer Addin.
The items which I have in 'File > Options > Add-ins > Excel add-ins is:
    In2Hyp Essbase Ribbon
Oracle Essbase OLAP Server DLL (Non- Unicode)
    Oracle Essbase Query Designer Addin.
Could you please kindly help me understand the difference?
Do you recommend reinstalling the Essbase add-in ?
Thank you very much for your help.
