Banded Profile after BT repair

I've been doing a lot of reading over the last few days and believe I have a Banded Profile. I suspect the answer to my question is going to be "Wait until you have had a stable connection for three days and it'll be lifted" but I have a few questions.
History:
Moved into this house mid 2010. Signed up for BT Broadband, phone and BT Vision. Broadband was about 2 Mbps download. Line was a bit crackly. Broadband often dropped when the phone rang.
BT came out and cured the noise BB was up to 3.5-4 Mbps. Bought the BT BB Accelerator Plate. Fitted and 48 hours later had 8-10 Mbps. Hub used to restart once every 2-3 months. No issues no problems.
Until 2 weeks ago.
The Problem:
One day the phone line was very noisy. The broadband constantly dropped and often would not get a connection for hours. When it did it might last 5 minutes. Long story short it was a fault in the line between the street pole and the master socket. Once replaced the line was clearer than ever and the BB was back on.
It was running at 10 Mbps for the best part of a day AFTER the line was replaced. I tested by picking up the phone and making calls inbound and outbound. Nothing caused it to drop. Until the following morning when the hub rebooted itself. Thinking this was just a part of the checks it does now the line was back I ignored it until I realised the speed is down to 3,072 Kbps.
Speaking to BT they mentioned i had a high "Noise Margin" and unable to get a decent explanation other than just wait and it'll come back, I started Googling and found this site. Much reading later (and I HOPE understanding) it appears I have a Banded Profile. I have noticed the general advise is wait until you have 3 days without an interrupted connection before asking for help. Previously I was rebooting every evening and morning on the advise of a work colleague. I got to 3 days uninterrupted earlier today. Came home at 6pm, checked the router stats and found it must have rebooted around 12pm (which should have taken it over 3 days) I checked the speed and it's 3,072 Kbps still. My upstream has increased from 1,038 to 1,138 Kbps. With that the Upstream Noise Margin has dropped from 9.7 dB to 6.3 dB, but why not my downstream Noise Margin? Downstream is still 14-16 dB.
I realise the banded profile is imposed because the constant reboots made BT think it's an unstable line - which it was DURING the fault. However i had a good 18 hours or so with 10 Mbps (with no hub reboots) after the repair only for one hub reboot to apparently cause the Banded Profile (or at least be the one that cause the Banded Profile to be invoked).
Am I correct in thinking 6 dB is best/optimum Noise Margin?
Do I have to wait another 3 days (or more) for the downstream to be adjusted separately?
I can't believe there is still a fault with the line. The line was fine all the way to the street pole but the engineer suspects the line to the house was very old and possibly had a break.
What if I can't get back the old speed I had? It's not life and death but it's infuriating to have 10 Mbps for 2 years, have something fixed and then get about a third of that...

  • Banded profile after line trouble after 3 days

Hi, I had some line trouble over a week ago and needed a BT engineer to come and fix the dead line. This was duly sorted and I found when I connected for the first time after this my down speed was 288Kbps and up was 1024Kbps which I understand is a banded profile because of the connection trouble. I waited for over 3 days and there was no improvement so I disconnected and tried again and my down speed went up to 576 Kbps. Now I have waited another 3 1/2 days and its still the same, I dont want to disconnect again as this could mess up getting this banding removed, do I have to do anyhting else to get my connection back to normal or just wait?
    Thanks in advance

Hi it can take up to 5 days continuous connection for the banding to lift can you please  post your hubstats and the full diagnostic bt speed test but do not restart the hub as the instructions ask

  • 3072kbps Banded profile not lifting after 5 days.

As the title sais, I'm stuck on a banded profile and it doesn't seem to be wanting to budge.
I've been in sync now for 137 hours with no drops or disconnects.
My speeds are usually up in the 3800-4200kbps range and I've never had a problem with line stability or disonnections that could have caused it prior to the banding taking place.
My only guess is family members unplugging the router overnight when it's not being used, which I've stated over and over again too them that they shouldn't unplug it. but no one seems to listen
Not sure how the process goes on the forums nowadays but If there is a mod I can contact who's willing to unband my line manually (If possible) then I'd be extremely grateful, thanks.

  • Infinity Banded Profile

I am wanting to know if BT Infinity has banded profiles.  I ask as my downstream line rate has recently dropped since installing a Home Hub 5 and from high 40's down to 35, well 34999 downstream rate according to the modem.  What is odd is if I reset the modem it seems to sync back to 34999, coincidence or is something limiting the line rate.  It looks like interleaving has also enabled as the attainable rate has dropped from 50+ to 45.   I remember before getting infinity with a previous supplier that after a line fault the profile got stuck somehow and a handed profile was applied which somehow limited what it could connect above.
I cannot help but think the line speed drop is as a result of using the home hub 5 but could be wrong, is there any easy way to see if I am on a banded profile, is this something that could be checked somewhere?
    Cheers

I thought this may have been a modem problem so I have put back the BT Modem, so the HH5 is no longer using the inbuilt modem.  The details from the BT modem is showing the same download rate of 34999.

  • Stuck at 0.25 Mbps for 16 days after line repair

    Hello,
I am currently experiencing some very slow broadband speeds following repair of a line fault. I believe it is due to a banded profile, although I'm not an expert.
We had terrible noise on our telephone line. As you can imagine, our broadband was severely affected. The fault was repaired on 18th June and now the telephone line is nice and quiet.
However, the broadband has failed to recover. It's now been 16 days since the repair and I've been pulling my hair out. I was told I have to wait 10 days or more for the broadband to recover. Can anyone explain why this is necessary? Contractually am I obliged to suffer an extended period of low speed following a repair? I'm sitting here staring at a solid 32 dB SNR margin whilst paying BT for an unusuable broadband connection.
I have paid for a 3G Modem and SIM card because the BT Broadband is currently unusable. Has anyone ever had success in recovering these type of costs from BT?
Any advice appreciated. Speedtests and router stats below (Draytek Vigor 2830n).
    Thanks,
    Brian

i agree you are in a banded profile and need to stay connected 24/7 for 3/5 days and the banding should release and noise margin drop down to 12/15db with corresponding speed increase. You then to remain connected as noise margin drops probably in steps of 3db until it gets to normal 6db

  • I dropped my iphone 5 in the water, its dead and when I try to charge it the apple logo comes and goes, thats my only sign of life, I've done many after market repairs but what I want to know is if I should replace the ligntning port or the battery

I dropped my iphone 5 in the water, its dead and when I try to charge it the apple logo comes and goes, thats my only sign of life, I've done many after market repairs but what I want to know is if I should replace the ligntning port or the battery... or just buy a galaxy s5?

If you dropped it in water, and then plugged it in, you may very well have destroyed the battery and/or the logic board.  Charging/plugging in to a power source is very damaging to wet electronic devices.  There is not much you can do but replace the entire iPhone...and since you did repairs yourself Apple will not do an out-of-warranty replacement.
You can try replacing the battery, the lightning port is another issue, but I would not expect that iPhone to work again.

  • Hard drive is corrupt after i repair it

My hard drive reads corrupt after I repair it.  I restart it, hit C, and open it with a startup disk, then repair and restart it.  After a while, when I verify my disk, it says that is corrupt, AGAIN!!
    Please help
I'm running a mac pro dual core 2 2.66 intel xeon processor, with 16GB of memory  My operating system is  10.6,8

So you should have already made a couple backups, always have a spare bootable system drive, and in some cases zero it all - takes couple hours, and not use it except as spare extra backup.
Getting files off your drive now but don't use it,, install OS to a new drive (pull the old one in fact temporary) and you may want to use checksum on all file copies, and for any files not on backup sets try best you can and if you still need help, then turn to Data Rescue 3.
I would not use a DVD to do repairs, even if it is 10.6.0 or 10.6.3. I would use a clean small system drive with 10.6.8 (takes less than 30GB, even down to 16GB if careful) "emergency boot drive" used only for system maintenance and repairs.
And if you had Lion, you don't, but, I would use Recovery Mode AND have that also cloned to another drive, using Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC).

  • Y510P Flickering screen still after two repair jobs

    Hello,
The screen on my y510p began flickering severely just a few months after I purchased it.  The flicker is present on the right third of the screen, and happens on BIOS boot as well as in Windows 8 and ubuntu.
Here is a video of the flicker:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPI_szMcgm8
When I sent the machine in to be repaired the first time, I was told that the screen, screen connector cable, and keyboard were replaced.  The problem was gone for about a week.  Same flicker, in the same part of the screen.
Then it came back.  Worse than before.  I sent it in again, and was told the motherboard was replaced.  Within a few days I began to notice the flicker again. Same flicker, and in the same part of the screen.
So after two weeks of having my computer at the repair facility, I still have the same issue.  I think at this point I'd like a replacement machine, or just a plain return of the computer.  How can I go about fixing this.
    Thanks for reading.
    -Zak

    Hey zacharypch,
You are not the only one who has this problem. It is an issue that happens more often with the Y510P.
Here is the main thread on this forum about the issue:
    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Re-Y510P-Screen-Flashing-Flickering-Random-Colo...
Unfortunately the admin's don't post there anymore, and I don't think that Lenovo has officially recognized the issue or has found a solution.
Currently my laptop is also shipped out for repairs. One other person from The Netherlands got his money back after the repair took more than six weeks. Mine has been at the repair center for several weeks (I shipped it the 25th of March), and because of the earlier mentioned thread I doubt they will be able to find a solution...
I just hope they will be able to fix the problem or give me my money back, since I need my laptop for study purposes.
Several "fixes" mentioned in the thread are for a different problem with a flashing backlight. The problem we are having is different.

  • What is the best way to automatically delete user profiles after x days of inactivity (school lab environment)?

I work at a school where we have multiple Mac Carts that have 30 MacBooks per cart. We image the macs every summer to delete the older user profiles but we are looking for way to possible have this done automatically through out the year to help with HDD space. What is the best way to delete user profiles after...say 180 days.... of inactivity automatically? I am open to login hooks, bash scripts, etc. Anything to get the job done. Thanks for any help or advice.

A search here turned up this post Deleting inactive users
It appears that the script posted will do as advertised though I would test it out on your systems and under your conditions to see if it does do what you need.

Message was edited by: Frank Caggiano - That script looks for users over 21 days. To look for ones over 180 days change the 21 to 180 in the find command.

  • CRM WebUI Layout Profile after upgrade.

    Hi All,
We have upgraded CRM system from 6.0 to EHP1. In the earlier system, there was a custom layout profile. Somehow that is not working after the system upgrade. On Web ui in personalize option, when i select that profile, i can see only the text on UI, all graphics are not visible, and for buttons cross image comes.
I opened the BSP application "THTMLB_STYLES" in the upgraded system and found that after system upgrade, few files have been added to standard layout profile i.e. default. These CSS files are not there in the customized layout profile after upgrade.
Now my question is "Is there any report program kind of thing that can synchronize the standard and customized layout profile?" like we have report for runtime repositories comparisons.
If not, then should i create another layout profile by copying the default and make changes to that or is there any way to edit the current custom layout profile.
    Thanks,
    Raman

    Hi Raman,
    How are you?
Did you find any solution for this problem?
We are also facing same problem after upgrade. So far, we have found only one solution i.e. create a new skin in EHP1 and do the required changes.
    Thanks,

  • Phone playing up after screen repair

I smashed the screen of my Z3 Compact and it went to be repaired. They had to change both the screen and the back and when I got it back they mentioned something about the screen not being screwed in, but I never thought anything of it. Now, the screen appears to be loose and I think it has been taped on the inside (double sided tape). Also, when either I recieve a phonecall or place a phonecall the screen goes black instead of recognising when I have taken the phone away from my ear and it is difficult to end the call, I have to keep pressing the lock button numerous times in order for the screen to come back on. I paid £80 to get my screen fixed so I was not expecting to have problems with it after the repair, is this something I can take it back to the shop and ask them to fix? Or is this just a problem which comes with getting the screen repaired. Many thanks for your help.

Sorry to hear about your phone
From what you're describing it doesn't sound like you have been at a Sony authorized service location. It should of course not be like that.
I recommend that you contact your local support team for information about what service locations we have in your area.
But if an unauthorized service location or dealer have opened your phone i'm afraid your warranty is probably voided.

  • How Make TS local User Profile After Install Windows 7 without Domain

    Hi,
I make TS to install Windows 7 Is success But after finish install i cannot login
If something need to add TS user local profile after install Windows 7 Without Join the Domain And make the user Administrator LocalGroup
    Thank for Help

Let's start with the fact that you are missing a key element in your task sequence. You need to have the step
Setup Windows and ConfigMgr to perform the transition from Windows PE to the new operating system. This task sequence step is a required part of any operating system deployment. It installs the Configuration Manager client into the new operating
system and prepares for the task sequence to continue execution in the new operating system. See also for more information:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh846237.aspx#BKMK_SetupWindowsandConfigMgr
    About your screenshots:
With the first screenshot you not enabling the local administrator. Is that what you want?
With the second screenshot your only creating a user account and not adding it to the local administrators group. That would need an additional action like this
    cmd.exe /c net localgroup /add administrators User01.

As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:
Permissions you can ignore on 10.5 onwards:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
Using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard onwards changed the location of a number of system components.
Poster rccharles has provided this description of what it all means:

I had to replace the LED screen on my Ipad 2 and after the repair, the wifi signal was very week.  I then replaced the wifi antenna and the signal is still extremely week.  It is not a problem with the wifi signal, all my other devices have good signal.  The Ipad will connect with full reception if you are 2 feet from the router.  Moving away to 4' the signal drops from three bars to two bars, at about 8' it drops to one bar and the at about 14' I loose signal.  Any suggestions as to the problem?
