Battery Hen Widget

Hi.
I don't know whether anyone is interested, but the battery hen widget is a cool representation of the charge left in your laptop (represented by a line of eggs). I like my widgets to have a bit of humor attached to them, so i wanted to use this one.
Anyway the widget doesn't work on a macbook because the developer wrote it specifically for Powerbooks and iBooks.
I just got it to work on my Macbook, by editing the widget.
If you find the widget in your /user/library/widgets folder, and then show package contents(right click on the widget and select it from the contextual menu), and open up the BatteryHen.html file in a text editor (I use Smultron because its free and does everything I need it to)
http://smultron.sourceforge.net/
Ok, now search through the file and find the line that reads:
batteryHenInterval=setInterval("getBatteryHen()",1000);
you'll notice that its inside a while loop, which runs some method which I assume determines whether or not the laptop is the correct model for the widget to work (in this case it only returns true for powerbooks and ibooks). if this while loop returns false then it displays an image over the top of the widget saying "This widget only works for powerbooks and ibooks" or somethign like that. Anyway.
replace this:
loadPrefs();
valid=SysStatPlugin.getValidSystem();
if(valid=="true"){
batteryHenInterval=setInterval("getBatteryHen()",1000);
} else {
document.getElementById("front").innerHTML+="";
With just this:
batteryHenInterval=setInterval("getBatteryHen()",1000);
And then save the html file and close down all your finders etc. Then if the widget is already running, close it down, and restart it.
Now your BatteryHen will work.
Hurrah.
By the way I'm not sure if i'm allowed to post like this for people to alter widgets and whatnot but I figure since it actually lets people use the widget, then it cant do any harm.

Maybe I'm in the wrong place for this, but I don't know where else to go to ask.
Is there a widget for your battery readout? Something that gives you everything: perentage, time remaining, icon, etc.? It seems like there're widgets for everything else, so not finding one for this seems odd.
iStat Pro will give you a lot of information about your MBP.

• HP Slatebook x2; Tablet wil not charge, 5sec a battery is shown. After 1 year and 1 month.

Hi,
I have the HP slatebook x2 10-h0000ed, just 1 year and 1 month. (bought and used in the Netherlands)
So 1y1m means, no official warrenty anymore, but a warrenty should not be the life expectancy...
My problem, actually none, until this morning, the X2 was totally switched off and could not startup.
After poweron it was just was showing a battery at 10%, the shutted down?
It seem to me that it has drained itself from almost all power (99%?), and then self shutted down.
Small history of the event;
Yesterday evening I left it at 2x 100% (base+tablet), and disconnected the charger.
The charger led was white (full&ready). So this time I did not leave the charger in the unit, to safe some energy...
While at 2x 100% charged, I powered the unit completely down. Afterwhich I closed the the tablet+base.
Now, this morning the unit did not wake. Normally press the powerbutton for 3-5 seconds or so.
The only thing I saw was a white battery with 10% red level on the black background.
Then after 5 second or so it switched back off by itself.
No fix until so far.
This I tried;
- Disconnected the tablet, and charged only the base. After 1-2 hours? the orange charger led went white. (full)
- Placed the tablet back onto the base, power on. no succes, same battery screen, and back auto off in 5 seconds.
- Disconnected the tablet, and tried to charge only the tablet. After 1-2 hour no succes.
The whole time the charger led was off. Not orange. Not white. Only off. And not charged anyting.
- While disconnected to the base but connected to the charger, I pressed the power.
The same thing happened, but with a twist..
Same battery screen, and back auto off in 5 seconds.
But when the screen + battery image was on, the charger was orange also. But only for thet 5 seconds moment.
This is a mini charging moment ??? And gave me the following idea...
- So I pressed and pressed and pressed the power button for atleast 1 hour uninterrupted, with many pop-ups of
the battery screen. And many temporarily orange charger leds.
With my hope that many times a little charge would revive the poor I-dont-wanne-charge condition.
But no ,also no success.
Power on is still the same battery screen, and back auto off in 5 seconds.
- Placed the none-charged tablet back onto the base.
Power on is still the same battery screen, and back auto off in 5 seconds.
So I read and browsed;
- Many complaints about HP and the battery of this kind of tablet.
The charging sequence problem are in short; Dead on arrival, but most of the time after
changing the tablet at the store it was ok.
So some leaving the factory unchargeable.
- But mine tablet was now 1y1m still up and running ok !
Until the voltage dropped below voltage-X.
- And lower then voltage-X means, by product-hardware, of by prodict-software, (I think)
that the charging-process is blocked and/or shutdown because the voltage is too low.
- In my opinion, when the voltage is too low, it should charge the battery, and not stop and exit and shutdown.
Future actions;
- Now it is saterday, so I have to wait until monday, until I can contact HP (at the Netherlands).
- I will discribe this problem and how this happens.
- I hope that HP is accommodatin and compliant to me with this problem.
- As I say in the beginning, a warranty should not be life expectancy of a product.
- The tablet nor adapter or wires and connectors were mistreated, dropped, bend, scratched, etc. Just normal everyday use. :-)
- I hope HP will give more warrenty then the 1year !
Do you have any ideas ?
I sort of out now.....
regards,
Manuel.

Status update; good.. & and bad..
the good..
The tablet (tablet+keyboard, not adapter) was transported to the HP-centre, for repairs.
From the Netherland to Poland, after a about 1 week it was returned.
The transport service arranged by Hp and Ups, was without any problem.
As requested to not-factory-default or erase otherwise, it was returned OK. All accounts where still fully present.
Repaired; As stated on the repair form in Dutch 'voeding bord vervangen'. Meaning 'power bord replaced'.
So I think something like the charge-pcb (inside the tablet?) was replaced.
Tested; Individual and all joined (tabl+keyb) charging.
While monitoring the power usage with a battery-monitoring-app.
(the 'battery monitor widget', and the system-default widget. always the same results. !!)
Results;
- The normal usage is OK.
- But charging has some issues, see the bad, below.
Also, the 'UpdateEC' popup re-appeared after the repairs.
The message;
UpdateEC
New EC Firmware found!!
Would you lik to update EC firmware?
(I do not know anymore the the version values from and to..)
the bad..
Maybe a new problem, starting from day 1 (after receiving it back).
This is still some preliminairy info, because I am still monitoring this.
The possible new problem; Charging the keyboard-battery !
A strange 'thing' seems to be going on with the keyboard battery.
- When drained to 1%, it charges in 20 minutes to 100% ?? While the table battery charges in 2 hours (120 mins).
- When fully at 100%, is drains much faster then the tablet battery.
- When at 50-90%, or somewhere in the middle, it 'jumps' to 1% ??
I have screenshots of this odd charge/discharge effect.
(screenshots of the 'battery monitor widget'. not the system-default widget, but always same results.)
I will keep monitoring this, and when the problem is a bit more clear, I will probably make a new support-request.
Keep you posted!
regards,
Manuel.

• Battery Saver Apps---Suggestions Welcomed!

I've taken the plunge and purchased a new Samsung GNex. I want to start out right and monitor my battery usage on this new phone. My question for the community: What is the best battery saver/task killer app in the Market that won't crap my phone out and put me back into a tailspin like with my Samsung CRAPinate; I mean Fascinate! (tee hee!) I've looked at the Easy Battery Saver+Task Killer, Battery Monitor Widget Pro and the Battery Dr Saver plus task killer. I'm reeling over the unending list of claimed "this app saved my life" reviews.
So, has anyone had good luck or bad luck with these types of applications?

cstephens wrote:
Those are great suggestions. Most of which I currently do. The only ones I cannot control are my emails. My Yahoo and Gmail do not allow me to manually set the sync option to 30 minutes to an hour. These apps are apparently coded to auto push emails. I can control my corporate email to sync at a designated time, but that's too important to set it to sync every 30 minutes to an hour. I need my corporate mail as soon as it hits the server since I'm not always in front of my laptop to read emails. Can the auto push be overriden in the Gmail and Yahoo accounts?
Gmail uses PUSH technology, so it doesn't use any more radio than the phone normally would. Do you use the Yahoo Mail app or use the stock email app on the Nexus? If you use the stock app, in the settings for your account, there is a place to set the amount of time from Never to every hour. To get there, go to Menu->Settings->Account(email name) Inbox check frequency. If you use the Yahoo mail app, then you will need to look through the settings to see where to change the check for new messages frequency.
What do you use for your Corporate Email? Does your company use Microsoft Exchange or another email system?
If the email is important, you want to leave the PUSH enabled (unless you get tons of spam). That way you only use the radio for email when an email actually comes in. My company uses Exchange, and the app that we use is Touchdown, set for PUSH. Sometimes I get 10 emails in an hour, and sometimes I get no emails in 10 hours.
Another way I save on battery, is that I have a power supply at home, at my desk at work, and in my car. That way, I always have power available to me (unless I am in meetings or in my wifes car) I never run out of battery power

• N8 Battery Level Bars very inaccurate

hi guys,
Is it just the unit that I got or are we looking here at much wider issue?
n8 has 7 bars reporting different battery levels. when I say "different" I mean really bizarre. I am not sure if you have noticed but in my n8, first bar on the top dissapears when battery level drops to 70%. in other words, top batery bar represents 30% of overall battery charge. now, the bottom battery bars represents just 10% of overall charge. so, 2 bottom bars equal to 20%, 1 bottom bar indicates 10% of overall charge. I am not sure if this is just me but I find this information very very misleading. why the battery indication cannot be configured in a way that represents as accurate level as possible? at the moment battery bars are not equal and one of them is a symbol of 30% and the other - opposite equals to just 10% of charge. This really looks like a fw issue. I am on 011.012
do you experience the same issue?
also, can the % battery level reported in the cloud when battery area is pressed be more granular? At the moment we are looking at 10% increments. any more accourate data would be much appreciated.
thank you

Just wondering why Nokia never even bother to fix battery status icon, they rather create an app called Battery Monitor to bypass this. What dont they just delete battery icon and replace it with Battery Monitor in update if it is that useless?
Battery Monitor worked great in Anna, but after updating to Belle, Battery Monitor widget keeps freezing at random %. Now I have no way of knowing precisely how much life left in my N8. It just died without any warning.

• [SOLVED] awesome & urxvt results in some screen flickering

Hi,
i've been using awesome since a few weeks and i noticed a flickering problem when starting urxvt (via mod4+enter).
urxvt starts, disappears, comes back again, disappears and so on.
starting up urxvt (time until i get a usable promt) takes about 1-2 seconds.
However, i don't know how to track the problem down. Maybe it is urxvt's (i think it is), maybe it is awesome's or even ati's fault (using 2.6.32 with open source ati driver).
when i switch between multiple windows (using mod4+n) only urxvt windows are flickering. Switching between gui-apps (ff, dolphin, …) works as expected.
maybe someone has an idea about this …

• A few How-To questions on E6-00

1. How do I set a one-touch button to open camera ? I know it's possible on the E72, couldn't figure why it shouldn't be possible on my E6, I guess I just couldn't find it myself.
2. How to check battery level ? Previously, when I used to have the Symbian Anna OS, I could do that by simply touching and holding the battery / clock icon on the screen and a small window would pop up and tell me the percentage of battery that was full. It doesn't work anymore after upgrading to Belle.
Thank you
Roy

With reference to battery condition, whilst loathe to mention paid for applications this is one example of battery info widget upon E6-00:
Happy to have helped forum in a small way with a Support Ratio = 37.0

• Thinkpad X201 & KDE: KDE doesn't get info on display brightness

In KDE, I can adjust my screen brightness with both the Fn-{Home,End} keys, and with Battery Monitor widget. Both methods work normally.
However, these methods work independent of each other: if the Battery Monitor shows 100% screen brightness and I turn the brightness down to 0% with the keys, the widget will not display it, and KDE still thinks brightness is at 100%.
To show what I mean: this picture shows the HUD displaying the brightness level at 100%, but after I set my brightness with the Fn-keys, it will still display 100%:
Is there a way to make KDE detect the level of screen brightness set with the Fn-keys?

Same problem here.
That used to work for me in earlier times (~2 month ago). But I'm not sure wheter this has changed by updating kde or updating other stuff (I tend to belive the latter).

• Shuts down when suppose to be sleeping

Macbook Pro 13in mid 2010 8GB Ram 750GB Seagate Momentus XT 7200 RPM drive OSX Yosemite 10.10
So I put my computer to sleep at night by using the Apple icon. About 12:05am it will start repeating the same information within the console until about 3:09am. Then it will issue a shutdown command. It has done it four nights in the row at the same times.
I tried disconnecting all peripherals and nothing changed. I tried staying past the time that it normally started issues the commands and nothing changed except it delayed it an hour later.
I have attached screenshots of the 4 separate times.

• Memory full error...when it isn't

Since updating to Belle I've been receiving a lot of "memory full" messages in a variety of applications, often with barely anything else running on the phone.
I've done a fair bit of testing to try to narrow down the culprit but I'm coming around to the conclusion that it's Belle, not the apps.

I do almost no browsing.
My unscientific narrowing down comprised of:
Reformatting N8
Installing Belle
Installing a few apps
Memory full error occurs after one or two days
I thought it might be Swype (from Beta Labs) so didn't install it one time but still got memory full.
I thought it might be Maps Suite 2.0 (from Beta Labs) so didn't install it one time but still got memory full.
I thought it might be IMO (as it's not officially available for Belle) so didn't install it one time but still got memory full.
Apps that I consistently install are:
Cutebox
Store
DLNA Play (Beta Labs)
ScreenSnap
Opera
GoogaSync
Battery Info
...and I also have two email accounts which check every 15 mins.
I have three homescreens:
1.
Calendar (official one line version)
Fourteen app shortcuts
2.
Two email widgets
3.
FM transmitter widget
DLNA Play widget
Music player widget
Four app shortcuts
Battery Info widget
I should have just included screen grabs, lol!
Sometimes the memory full message appears when I'm doing something big, like starting maps or camera or calendar (never photo gallery though), but other time it happens while doing something small like switching homescreen or backing out of an application, but the strange thing is that when I check memory status (RAM, not the C: drive) I find that there's plenty free.
Anyway, homescreen grabs attached.

• Viber app for symbian

i recently installed viber on my nokia x7 running symbian belle os. But when i started it i came to know that it doesn't have a calling option unlike android and ios phones. This is utter disappointment for me and i think for many nokia users. I would like to know will there be any updation regarding viber app in the coming or i should uninstall it because it is of no use if it does not have a calling option. Please update regarding this.

N8 with Belle Refresh, 808 on Belle FP1 and C7 on standard Belle. All 3 devices displayed the same battery behaviour, losing around 10% per hour in standby and showing an open data connection all the time.
My N8 has dropped six percent in five hours and 48 minutes with Viber running in the background. I'm measuring this using the Battery Info widget. I haven't any reason to think that that widget is giving me false information and has seemed to be quite accurate over the months I've been using it.

• MACBOOK PRO owners: grey curtain falls, ask you to restart

I just bought my MacBook Pro in Dec. Just the last couple of days, there's a grey curtain that falls on my display, asking to me RESTART my computer daily.
I've done a repair/permission several times, this still occurs....what is up w/ my macbook pro and it's making me very nervous.
thanks

All you have to do it download the widget again. Double click it on your desktop and then it will ask if you want to overwrite the old widget. (it will ask something along those lines don't remember exactly) Then the widget should be over written and you should be find if that was really the problem.
The battery thing I also had a problem with. I calibrated my battery:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86284
The battery was still messed up after that so I called apple and they sent me a new battery right away, I didn't have to send in my laptop or anything, I just had to mail them my old one.
If the battery status widget doesn't fix the panics, then look around for other monitor widgets. All my panics were being cause by a widget that was monitoring system stats like, cpu, ram, battery. It just so happened to be the battery one. I found out it was that one by uninstalling several widgets and then seeing if I got panics and just kept doing that till it went away.
Also download coconut battery.
http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutbattery/
That will tell you the capacity of your battery thats how I knew I had a problem.
Good luck man, sorry to write you an essay.

• Difference between loading currents?!

Hi @ All,
i`m wondering about the charging manner of my Z1C.
When i`m charging the smartphone over the USB Plug, the APP "Battery Monitor Widget", shows a batterycurrent of about +1A.
When i use a magnetic cable, non Sony (china Import), the Smartphone only "charges" witch about +200mA!
Now i can`t figure out the finally reason of my problem. I don`t have an original Sony Dockingstation to valitate the charging currents...
Are the connoctors USB and Docking similar about the high of the charging current or are there differences from the Smartphone?
Thanks for your help
Björn

A magnetic charging cable will only work when connected to a mains plug - If you are connecting it to a Pc then I'm surprised it's working at all - It may register a current but should not charge - Now USB cable have different catergories as to does a Pc - Age dependant USB 2.0 will give a 5v 0.5a output where as a USB 3.0 will give a 5v 1.0a output and your Sony mains charger depending on model 5v now either a 1.0a or 1.5a ouput but the Voltage will stay the same at 5v - Also USB cables depending on how many pins are in use will either give the maximum output or less and this also has to do with your Pc as above and wether or not the pins are for use via a mains plug

• My info for battery charging says "Not Charging" when it is charging as per dashboard widget.

My info for battery charging says "Not Charging" when it is charging as per dashboard widget. Since change to lion all slowed down do I need more ram ( have 2 gig). Lost some icons in web site icons and other random icons. So far SL better.

Yeah, it was purchased in August 2008. I'm not really sure what a charge cycle is, but I do plug it in and unplug it a lot to a power source. Mainly because I keep my computer on most of the time (either on or on sleep). So between taking it to classes and stuff, I'll recharge in between and when it's really low, otherwise I run it off the battery most of the time.
On a sidenote, I have went to that information thing about about the battery after letting it sit plug in for a few hours, and now it has this information:

• Battery monitor 1.2 ask for conntection to widgets...

Hi!
I have Battery Monitor 1.2 installed.
Upgraded my N8 from PR1.0 to 1.1.
Every time I start Battery Monitor now it askes if I want to connect my widgets to internet.
I press no, and after 2 seconds I get promted again.
N8 FW: 022.014 -- Please separate Artist & Albums!
N86 8MP FW: 30.009 -- We need a new FW on this phone!
E51 FW: 410.34.001

The *Ask for Text* action will use the text passed to it as the default answer. You can add to this default answer in a second action or enter everything in only one action, but the text returned will just be one piece of text. You can separate the arguments by using an option-return to put them on different lines, then break the text up along the paragraph boundaries by using the *Filter Paragraphs* action (e.g. "Return paragraphs that are not empty"). Viewing the results of an action will show you what is being returned.
If this doesn't solve your problem, it might help to know how you are using the actions, and what you are using for the Python script.
