BB Device Manager no hangs when device connected

I have synced my 9530 & 9550 with Device Manager for over 2 yrs with littie issue.  As of 2 days ago DM locks up as soon as it connects to the device (USB & Bluetooth).  10+ hours of tech support with RIM and they finally tell me its a known software glitch and they have no idea when of if they'll get it solved.  Verizon doesn't even know about the issue.  Anyone else experienced this?

I had the same problem - After a few years of using a Palm Treo 650, I just received & am switching to Blackberry Curve 8320.  When trying to transfer data from the Palm Desktop to the Blackberry using the device switch wizard, mine kept hanging on Calendar item 1754/2174 (everything updated, synched etc.).  I wondered if this could be due to Blackberry's intentional (?) design to only transfer/synch future calendar items, so I went into Palm desktop & directed it to Tools/Purge Events then chose "Delete events older than 1 month", making sure "Archive Deleted Events at Next Hot sync" was checked.  After this, all old events are retained in Palm archive (which I'm not deleting from drive), and the Device Switch Manager for Blackberry ran successfully.  I also found instructions here to re-set date to an earlier date on Blackberry to allow past calendar events to sync, then re-set the Blackberry to the current date.  This could also be a possible work-around.  Note:  I still plan to sync Blackberry with Outlook now because I like the ability to have larger/different views on the computer screen, like you can with the Palm Desktop.

  • OSX 10.9 UBS would not recognize devices removed or ejected when re-connected without a reboot.

OSX 10.9 UBS would not recognize devices removed or ejected when re-connected without a reboot. First saw this with my Time Machine backup drive.  Ejected it to put it into a different USB port and Finder never saw it unless I rebooted.  Next it happened with my Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920. Skype recognized the device, but no video feed (audio microphone did work).  Unplugging and replugging the Webcam (and closing and restarting Skype) had the same result; had to reboot the computer (MacBook Pro Retina 15.4, 16 GB RAM) to get it to recognize the device.
Next had a meeting on another new MacBook Pro Retina 15.4 in our conference room hooked up to a 36 inch monitor and the same Logitec Webcam model (not the same device) connected directly into the MB Pro USB port; same exact problem as above.
    Any thoughts?

I have a powered USB 2 hub connected.  The problem remained whether or not the devices were plugged in directly or through the hub.  Beyond that, the camera is a USB 3 device...  Thanks, but any other thoughts?

  • Profile manager settings device management disabled error when enabling

    Hello,
I have installed OS-X Lion on a mac mini. Everything is working fine, including open ldap as a master where other imac can connect and use this ldap server for login.
However in profile management i try in the settings section to enable management of devices. When the wizard starts it asks me to enter the password for diradmin as this server needs a master ldap (is already there).
The wizard then mentions that this computer already has a master ldap server and i cannot continue installing device management in profile manager.
Probably because of this I cannot see devices in the profile manager portal.
Does anyone have a solution to solve this issue.
    Thanks
    Paul Bot

I would try demoting your Open Directory server from Master to Standalone in the Server Admin app - there's an assistant in Server Admin > Open Directory > Settings > General > click the change button.
Once it's demoted to a standalone, restart.
From there, don't create an OD Master again - go to Profile Manager in Server.app and run through the wizard again.  In the process, it will create an OD Master for you.
    Hope that helps,
    Chris

  • "USB Device Not Recognized" error when I connect iPod to my PC

I have a brand new 5th gen (I think) iPod.
I have been able to connect it successfully to my home laptop, download music to it and play it so I know the iPod works per se and the cable is ok too.
Now at work (where tons of my music is) when I connect it to my PC here and I get a "USB Device Not Recognized" error pops up from my taskbar. When I click on the message it pops up a "USB Device Not Recognized" window which displays a list of USB ports, and shows "Unknown Device" for the one where the iPod is connected.
I think its probably USB1.something as opposed to USB2.0 but from what I understand that shouldn't matter.
    Can anyone suggest anything ?
I've tried the 5R's as far as I can, and I read through this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=500559&tstart=15
but there didn't seem to be anything conclusive.
    Thanks for any help,
    Jill

First make sure the latest iTUnes is installed on this work PC, IF your allowed to install things on it, the latest iTunes version is 6.0.4.2 and can be downloaded from the apple site (Hit iPod+iTunes tab at the very top of this web page)
Another thing is what version of windows is the work PC? Is it windows XP Windows 2000 Or windows Me 98? iTunes will only run on XP and 2000

  • ME SDK 8.0 EA Device Manager - Problems with Serial COM-Connection

I caught a first glimpse at the new ME SDK 8.0 - so far I have been working only with very old JavaME-Stuff on a Cinterion-TC65i-Chip.
Want to connect my Raspberry Pi via serial COM-Connection with the SDK-8.0-EA-Device-Manager. (due to security reasons I'm not allowed to connect the Pi via LAN/Wifi)
But the problem is the ME SDK 8.0 EA Device Manager only offers me COM4 (this is my built-in UMTS-Modem) - even though my target-COM-Device isn't busy at all.
A serial connection via Putty and USB2Serial-Cabel (FTDDI) works fine and I can get on my Raspberry.
Is there any reason or restriction I don't know for being unable to use my dedicated COM-Port? Or do I have to make any additional adjustments in hidden SDK-Property-files?
In my opinion the device manager using COM should offer me the same possibilities as an IP-Connection regarding the target-device (transfering my Jad/jar to the device, installing them and starting them).
There is something in the SDK-get-Started Docu about "Connecting to a UART Device" I'm not really cotton on . Is this information concerning me even though I'm using a Raspberry PI?
To put my files manually via USB-Stick or Z-Modem on the PI is a tad of inconvinient.
Any ideas? Or am I completely off track understanding your SDK-Tooling?
    Thx and best regards

    Hi,
For the Raspberry Pi, tooling over serial port is not supported. The simplest solution is to use standard IP networking over Ethernet. This can be a direct connection between the PC and the Raspberry Pi, as long as the cable is twisted and the IP addressing is correct (e.g. manual IP addressing or DHCP server on the PC).
Regarding "Connecting to a UART Device": This is meant for attaching and controlling serial devices from the Raspberry Pi, not for tooling connections between the Raspberry Pi and the PC.
    Hope this helps,

  • My device is not recognised when I connect it to my computer with a USB

My ancient 4gb ipod nano (2nd gen) is no longer recognised when I connect it to my laptop with a USB.  I have used troubleshooting from the apple support pages to no avail.
My ipod charges via USB when it's connected to my laptop but no data seems to be being transferred.
I would really appreciate any help on this matter.

    Hey there Sazzle15,
If your iPod is still not being seen by your computer when you plug it in with the USB cable, I would recommend the troublehsooting information in the following article, without knowing precisely what troubleshooting steps you had performed. Start at the "Check USB connection" section and work your way down as needed:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • ITunes hangs when I connect my phone

    iTunes 10.2.1.1, iPhone 3GS iOS 4.3, Windows 7 SP1 64-bit.
Short summary: when I connect my phone to sync, iTunes hangs. If I let it sit for a minute or two it will eventually crash. If I disconnect my phone before this then iTunes starts responding just fine.
    Details:
I just "flattened" my computer: formatted the drive, reinstalled the OS (and upgraded to Win 7 SP1 off of a DVD with the combined install). The computer waas fine before this, I just wanted to do some spring cleaning. My iTunes library is sitting on a server and has always been accessed over the network.
After the re-install of the OS I installed iTunes and pointed it at my library. That was fine. Then I connected the phone. At that point it was running iOS 4.2.something. I decided to upgrade to iOS 4.3. That seemed to work fine. After that when I connect the phone iTunes hangs.
I decided to reset the phone with the option to erase all content and settings. iTunes now worked ok. So I did an initial sync, telling it to set it up as a new phone. I did not sync any music at this point--I have ~22GB of music, it takes a long time to sync. This still worked fine. So then I sync'd the phone again, this time installing all the music. Again iTunes hangs.
I wondered if the library was screwed up. So I installed iTunes on a laptop (running Win 2008 Server R2), pointed it at my same library (still over the network). Then started over: reset the phone, clearing all settings & content. Sync from the laptop. It works fine. Sync the music from the laptop, it still works fine. It also seems clear that it's not a problem with the iTunes library.
Back to my original computer, the one with problems, my wife is using it logged in with her account and syncing her iPad without any problems. However, she has very little music on her iPad, maybe one ripped CD, whereas my iPhone has hundreds.
So the issue seems specific to this one computer & phone that has a lot of music on it. I never had a problem on the computer before, but that was iTunes before 10.2, iOS 4.2 (and earlier), Win 7 without SP1, ... So I've changed lots of things at the same time and am not sure which one really created the problem. Although I wonder if it's a problem with Service Pack 1. I don't have any concerns about a bad install of the SP, since I did a full install of the OS that already had SP1 integrated into it. But maybe iTunes 10.2.1.1 has an issue with SP1.
    Any suggestions?

I've been following a Windows forum about the freezing problem. It happened to us and our three iOS devices immediately after upgrading Windows 7 64-bit to SP1. There were plenty of others with the same problem. Rolling back SP1 solved it instantly. Reinstalling SP1 caused it instantly. No amount of cleanly uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime, iTunes, or any components helped.
Although I have an image of my system before SP1 that I could revert to, I didn't want to. Luckily *a temporary fix is to run iTunes in Vista compatibility mode*. The iOS device will now be recognized most, if not all, of the time. ITunes will run like molasses, but that's better than being unable to sync any of your devices ever again. (I could describe compatibility mode, but you seem PC-savvy.)
Here is the specific trouble I am addressing, although it is only part of your trouble. We plug in one of our iPhones or our Touch, iTunes hangs for a couple of minutes. Windows sees the device as a camera if applicable, but the device never appears in iTunes. It's worth repeating that Windows doesn't have trouble recognizing the device. The problem is with iTunes.
And yes, everyone tried all sorts of things with the Apple Mobile Device utility. People even tried "nuking" all their USB drivers and letting them get rebuilt on startup. The only temporary fix found so far is Vista mode, and the only permanent fix is downgrading the OS to before SP1.

  • Mac KeyChain Access App Hangs when NOT connected to WiFi

    Hi,
I am facing a problem with Keychain Access hanging and wifi connection in OS X 10.9.1 (Mavericks).
I use a Time Capsule as a base station and 13" Macbook Air (2012). The base station is connected to the internet through a PPOE connection.
    Here are the details.
Since upgrading to OS X 10.9.1, my Mac automatically connects to preferred wifi network ONLY WHEN the wifi is available at start up or when the Mac wakes up from sleep, but not otherwise.
Before the upgrade, the Mac automatically connected to the preferred wifi network not just at start up, but whenever the wifi became available.
In other words, after the upgrade, if I boot up the Time Capsule base station and the Mac simultaneously, the Mac scans for the base station wifi network (this is configured as the top preferred wifi network) at start up, but since the base staion is still booting up, the Mac doesn't find the wifi.
But once the base station has booted up and wifi is available, the Mac no longer bothers to join it.
At this point, if I click on the Keychain Access application, IT HANGS (I see a rainbow-colored rotating disc/ball).  And it continues to hang UNLESS I do ONE of the following to get the Mac connected to the wifi.
    1. I manually select the preferred wifi network using the wifi icon at the top of the screen;  OR
    2. I put the Mac to sleep (by closing the cover) and then wake it up.  On wake up, it connects automatically to the preferred wifi network; OR
    3. I turn off the wifi (using the wifi icon on the top) and turn it back on, at which point, the Mac automatically connects to the preferred wifi network.
As soon as the Mac gets connected to the WiFi, the Keychain Access application STOPS hanging and open up normally.
I also noticed that Keychain Access DOESN'T HANG (even if the Mac is not connected to the wifi), if I do the following:
    1. Go to Network preferences;
    2. Uncheck "Ask to join new networks";
    3. Click on the "Advanced" button, select wifi tab, and remove all preferred wifi networks and uncheck "Remember networks this computer has joined".
I obviously want to set preferred wif networks, so the above workaround to avoid Keychain Access hanging is not acceptable.
I have tried everything possible including contacting Apple support, but so far the issue is still unresolved.
Appreciate any help you can provide.
    Prem

There was a hotfix for this put out just after V25.
Unfortunetly you have to rebuild your viewer and submit and update to Apple. From my experience they were very quick about approving the update because of the critical nature of the update even without putting in an expediated review request, but that was over a month ago.

  • [device manager] permanent show hidden devices

    Hi there
i would like to permanently enable the view of hidden devices.
Yes, i´ve already set the variable DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES and yes i know that i have only to click the View menu, and then select Show hidden devices.
But this selection is lost after every reboot.
    How to set it permanently?

    Hi,
From what I know you cant set the view, show hidden devices permanently. But you can set the DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES permanently.
You could open MMC and load in the Device manager snap in. Then select view --> Show hidden devices. Then save that MMC console. If you load that up it will always open with View -- Show hidden devices. A bit of a workaround but will solve the issue ;)
To set the DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES you need to add it to the enviroment variables.
"Setting the DEVMGR environment variable as described here affects only the instance of Device Manager launched from that Command Prompt window. If you want the change to be persistent, open Control Panel, open System, click Advanced System Settings, click
Environment Variables on the Advanced tab, and define a new variable for this setting. If you add the variable to the User Variables section, the setting will apply only to the current user. If you edit the System Variables section, the extra information will
be visible in Device Manager for all users of the current computer. "
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't sync iTunes! device not being displayed when I connect to computer.

I have been syncing my iphone just fine, now suddenly I plug into my computer and my Device only shows up in iphoto that pops up on screen. Usually iTunes appears as well with my "Device" on the left and the phone would sync automatically. Now iTunes doesn't even pop up. Has some setting on my computer changed not allowing it.  Basically I can not manage my phone with my computer anymore. My wife iphone is doing the same thing.

  • Workgroup Management stops working when internet connection is down

Our 10.5.8 XServe works perfectly fine as long as the office internet connection is working. As soon as the connection drops for more than a couple of minutes the server connection speed drops to a crawl and drops user connections. Also Workgroup Manager cant be used and the icons become inactive. As soon as the connection is back online everything works fine. We built another boot disk on a tower and it also does the same.
We've tried running DNS on the server and also using a basic DNS setup in the network settings nothing seems to fix the problem. A simple test is to run WGM with/without an internet connection (quit after each attempt) and try to add/edit users.
    What are we doing wrong?
