BCD/boot error 0xc0000001 ~ stuck on broken windows partition

Okay so I have a macbook pro 2009 and I recently partitioned my hard drive to get windows 7 premium using bootcamp. While installing new software for my windows side it it froze up and I had to do a hardshut down. After I restarted my computer it came up with a black screen that says boot/bcd error - 0xc0000001
info: an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
It instructs me to
1. insert your windows installation disk and restart my computer
2. choose your language settings and then click "next"
3.click "repair your computer"
problems I've come across while attempting to fix this
1. when selecting what operating system to repair after starting up the windows installation disk there are no operating system that shows up.
2. "repair your computer" option does not work and cannot repair the problem.
3. cannot hold down option to go back to Mac side because of EFI lock which I don't know the password to it.
4. cannot get to safeboot for reasons unknown, but holding down f8 doesn't work and holding down FN with F8 also does not work. It just goes to the boot error screen.
5. System restore does't work either.
6. went into command prompt and typed sfc / scannow but it says that another scan is in progress but needs to reboot to start. Every time I restart the same message pops up.
All I really want to do is get back to my mac side so I can delete the partition at this point. But it is IMPOSSIBLE so if anybody knows any solutions please do share. thanks!

Hi electrovalent,
I agree with Tripredacus,we seem to miss the important part that we should boot from the UEFI mode for a GPT format disk.To boot from the UEFI mode:
1.Insert the installation DVD or USB flash drive, and boot the computer.
2.When the firmware starts to initialize, press the key that opens the UEFI firmware boot device menu, such as Esc, F2, F9, F12.
3.Select an EFI drive, examples: EFI DVD/CD Drive, EFI USB Drive, or EFI Network Drive. You may be immediately prompted to press a key to boot from the drive to continue.
Here is a link for reference :
Walkthrough: Boot Windows PE from a UEFI-based Hard Disk
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh265131(v=ws.10).aspx
I have noticed you have tried the "Startup Repair"option before but I would suggest you try this option again .Because we have chosen the UEFI mode this time and this option is usually useful and convenient to repair the boot loader.
If the issue persists ,try the following command line .I also noticed you have tried the similar command line before but I have made a little modifications according to the screenshots you have posted.
diskpart
list vol
sel vol 2  (Volume 2 is the fat32 volume, this step is not included in the screenshot )
assign letter=v
exit
ren BCD BCD.old (Backup bcd )
bcdboot c:\Windows /s v:
Best regards

  • MacBook Pro Won't Boot. Kernel Panic. Only Windows Partition Works

So one day I was using my mac when it froze for no apparent reason, i was just running iTunes, so i held the power key and it shut down. After a while, i turned it back on and it got to the apple but then i got a bunch of errors i guess, around the lines of kernel panic. So i went online and read other peoples problems but none of them seamed to work. It wont start up normally, not in safe mode, recovery drive wont boot, only the windows partition works. i reset my PRAM i think its called and that failed. someone online said to re-install lion. i dont have a lion recovery usb thingy, but i have a lion disk, but my disk drive no longer works due to hardware damage. so i need to back up my files from my mac partition and re-install lion OR just get rid of the Kernel Panic Thingy.
ps. everytime i try to boot mac, i get a different error message.
    any help is greatly appreciated

Are you willing to lose the data that isn't backed up? If not, you have to try to back up now, before you do anything else.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to fully boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot into Recovery (command-R at startup; 10.7 or later), from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup; 10.7.2 or later), or from your installation disc (C key at startup; 10.6.8 or earlier.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in the support article linked below, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
How to back up and restore your files
    2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode by holding down the key combination command-T at the startup chime. Connect the two Macs with a FireWire or Thunderbolt cable. The internal drive of the machine running in target mode will mount as an external drive on the other machine. Copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode
    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

  • Failed boot camp install - how to remove windows partition?

    Hi There,
After a failed boot camp install, boot camp no longer sees (or can remove) a windows partition - Disk Utility can't seem to remove it and if I use:
    $ diskutil list
It shows up as partition 5 "Microsoft Reserved"
I also have a portion of free space that I can't seem to incorporate back into the main OSX partition - how do I remove the windows partition and make the drive a single OSX drive again?
Any help would be much appreciated
    Cheers
    Ben
    - New Mac Pro
    - Installing onto internal 1 TB SSD
    - 10.9.3
    - Windows 8.1

Just incase others have this issue, this wasn't caused by using Disk Utility (Disk Utility couldn't remove the partition anyway) it was caused by repeatedly trying to format the Boot Camp partition using the Windows installer when Windows refused to install.
The solution is an Apple tech note (I can no longer find it sorry) that sates that no other hard drives besides the internal HD and the Windows USB flash drive can be connected while installing windows.
    Cheers

  • Boot camp assistant stuck while 'Copying Windows files...'

At the moment I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit using Boot Camp 4.0.1. I have the iso and i'm at the step where Boot Camp Assistant creates a Windows 7 install disk on a USB flash drive. It gets most of the way through the process and stops here, http://imgur.com/Kcxl9 everytime. What can I about this?

    Creating DVD on USB
    Not all USB devices work
Disk Utility we know is not well suited to burning ISOs
I would assume the flash drive could be a 'maybe' and it would need to have Master Boot Record partition table.
I take it the Mini is like the Air in not having a superdrive, and that Assistant provided a driver to support USB-DVD function?

  • I get an error message saying, "An error occurred while restoring the disk to a single partition." when I try to use Boot Camp Assistant to remove my Windows partition.

i don't know how to do

There is a forum for Boot Camp. This is not the forum for the notebook users.
You should always always have backup that you can use to restore your system incase of a problem.
Try booting into Lion Recoverey or from your OS X DVD and choose Disk Utility from Utility menu and repair the disk; try to remove with DU instead of BCA.

  • Boot Camp can't create a Windows partition

    Hello,
I'm trying to create a new partition to install Windows 7 on, but I am unable to do so.
At first I tried to do this with Boot Camp Assistant, but it didn't work.
Then I tried to create a FAT partition with Disk Utility, which didn't work either.
So I verified and repaired the disk, tried to create the partition again, yet it still didn't work.
I verified and repaired the disk and tried to create the partition while running the OS, in Safe Mode and from the Mac OSX Install DVD.
    Neither of them worked.
I noticed while running the OS, the info of the HD said the capacity is 749.81 GB, while checking that from the Mac OSX Install DVD it only says about 700 GB (I mentioned 698.6 GB).
    Strange..
It might also be important to mention that I recently (2 days ago) I installed a new HD: Western Digital Scorpio Black 750 GB, and today I swapped my 2x 2GB RAM for 2x 4GB RAM (Samsung).
On my previous HD, the Fujitsu 250GB, this proces was no problem at all. I installed W7 on that drive just a week ago.
I made a clone of the Fujitsu HD and "back-upped" it to my new WD HD. The W7 partition on the Fujitsu HD was 50GB, which is the difference in capacity mentioned above. I'm not sure if there's a link here..
I've got a MacBook Pro from mid 2009.
I'm not sure what to do next... I'm stuck!
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Did you do an upgrade to Leopard? If so, some files may be scattered over your HD, making it impossible for BC to find a single contiguous area on the drive.
Also, be sure you did not have eDisk installed - that's the thing from the TechTools disk that comes with AppleCare.
This is not an uncommon problem. It's not just you.
If you have a complete backup of Leopard, you can use the DU to make a single partition. You may be lucky and not lose any data, but backup anwyay.
In DU, repair the disk, if necessary and verify/repair permissions.
Once you have done this try again.
If BC still fails, you will need to erase the HD and then copy everything back from the backup.
I always suggest a bootable clone for the backup and be sure to test it first to see it works.

  • Help! I am unable to get Boot Camp to recognize my Windows disc; whether I use USB, DVD, CD whatever, I get an error message to insert the Windows Software and wait. HELP please!

Like I said in my headline, I simply cannot get Boot Camp Assistant to recognize my Windows Software, no matter what method I use. I don't know if I'm not making it mountable or what. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Simply skip Boot Camp Assistant and create the Windows partition with Disk Utility > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU3.html Select "MS-DOS (FAT)" as "Format", and apply the changes. By security, choose "BOOTCAMP" as the name of the partition.
In fact, the only thing that Boot Camp Assistant does is to help you create the Windows partition and download the Windows support software.
Before creating the partition, open Boot Camp Assistant, tick only the option to download the Windows support software and burn it into a USB drive. You will need it later. Then, make the partition as described above.
Finally, insert the Windows DVD, restart and hold the C key while your Mac is starting. Since here, you can follow the Apple's steps > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf Remember to choose the BOOTCAMP partition when the installer asks you to format it.
After installing Windows, insert the USB drive and install the Windows support software

  • Boot camp assistant stuck

Hey, I use OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1) and I want to boot camp a windows 7 on my mac. I've read the boot camp for mountain lion instructions and I do all the things always like it says. But I think something's gone wrong, the boot camp assistant stuck in " Downloading windows support software ". I've tried to download BootCampESD.pkg but the link is not found. Then, I tried to use this link http://swscan.apple.com/content/catalogs/others/index-lion.merged-1.sucatalog it's downloading and jump directly into app store, but nothing's appeared. Please help me, I can't install visual basic that's being studied in my school. I can't do my computer task !!

I am not going to get into an argument here which I might add feels a little like you are wanting too, or trying to point out to others that apple verified apps and software are better, something we all know and agree with you with. Either way I will try and explain again
I had windows on a partitioned drive before I upgraded to mountain lion it was no longer there afterwards and needed it back on the Mac.
I looked it up on support and went ahead and started. Boot Camp wanted the latest windows software only didn’t happen so looked it up. I kept getting error messages after error message and every error message I would look up the solution, nothing was helping to get those files down.
Now this could be because the wireless was a bit slow because even igetter was having to resume a few times either way I had them in the end.
The thing is I have it done now and I might not be an expert like some of you on support however myself and I am sure a few others like myself can only try what support tells us a couple of times before we give up and look again for a solution  and if they had been working on it for as long as I had, start to look at any reply that someone has that might help. Then if it does great say thank you and move on.
I am not having a go at you, Apple or the support group nor saying to use third party apps, I would and will still always use Apple first.
I will have a go at Mountain Lion though because like I said I had no problems with my computer until I upgraded and hoping the shut downs and freezing up are just teething problems or bug that might be fixed on next update.
I have my Mac partitioned now it took many hours and a lot of searching to get it done though and still wouldn’t be if I didn’t read what support and other people wrote.

Starting Mac with Windows for the first time. How long does it usually take? I've been stuck at the "Starting Windows" screen for an hour. • Stuck at 'Starting Windows' screen! Help please :(

    Hello guys and girls.
I have a problem with an Acer Aspire 8920 laptop.
To start off with the back light on the screen was the first issue. After turning the laptop on the screen would turn off. I would close the lid and open it again and the screen would light up as normal and then after a few seconds it would go off again.
I wasn't sire at first what it was so I plugged it into the telly via HDMI and that was fine. I looked closely and I could see very faintly windows had loaded fine. After that I knew it was the backlight.
Eventually after more research I bought a new inverter off the web. Few days later it arrived and I replaced it. It solved the issue but has caused a couple more.
I get stuck at the starting windows screen no matter what I do. I have a copy of W7 on a disc, on USB and if I try and load up W7 as normal. If I try and boot in safe mode it always gets stuck at 'Loaded: \Windows\system32\DRIVERS\avgidsha.sys' every time.
Also after replacing the inverter the brightness of the screen now 'pulses'. Thats the best way I can describe it. When it does pulse it doesn't go off completely, just a little brighter and darker.
I have looked online and found that people were getting stuck at the same place and the cause of that was a power supple issue with custom built PCs. I think that maybe I might have a the same problem because of this new inverter?
Any input would be great into this. I appreciate your help.
    Thank you!

  • Stuck in Bootcamp Windows install and can't get out

late 2009 iMac with Mavericks with homemade fusion drive with super drive removed.
Was working fine until i tried to use bootcamp to install Windows 7. Now I'm stuck in the Windows partition, windows won't install and can't get out of the loop.  Machine boots white screen with no apple logo and chimes. Eventually has black screen with No bootabe device -- insert boot disk and press any key. I have a USB drive. I've tried everything. Doesn't seem to be recognizing bluetooth keyboard. No sort of button combination on startup works. Tried holding X, command-alt PR, shift, command-R, option. Tried everything. Light doesn't come on on keyboard in startup which means it's probably not recognized. Tried disconnecting internal drives and booting from USB. Tried booting from Time Machine USB drive. Nothings works. Think a USB keyboard would solves this?

I have gotten in this loop.  When doing this kind of thing, a usb keyboard would be good to have around, and that is probably the problem, because when I would boot, the first time set the windows partition to the default drive.  Hold the key combo and boot into OSX, and go into Settings/Startup Disk/ and change it to The osx hd.

  • Boot Camp formatting the windows Partition -XP- I DIDNT! NOW GOT BIG PROBS!

Well Hi everyone, here goes in public! *I didn't read the manual carefully enough*
So, got that out the way, when the XP disc finishes instal and restarts i get the blank dos screen with:
'disk Error, press any key to restart'
but my keyboard has been completely frozen, the only way to restart is a forced restart with the power button.
Even when i try a forced start from the mac os instal DVD, you know- restart - 'D' key all i get is the apple hardware test utility which works only with my mouse and doesn't go any further in helping free my keyboard. although it does say there's no problem with the hardware.
i have important info on my Mac partition and need to recover that.
Is there any way of freeing the keyboard so i can try again?
Any help will be greatly, and humbly, appreciated.
PS. I've already looked at other threads and they all seem to have working keyboards, if i can get mine working i may be able to follow their advice.

I've had to go through this a number of times, and it's just something that you cannot get around.
When you're setting up boot camp, if you choose 32Gb as your Windows partition, it will use the FAT32 format. When you boot from your Windows disk, as you would with a PC that you already know has a disk formatted to FAT32, you would select "Leave file system intact" under the format options. You cannot do this. You HAVE TO select "Format as FAT32".
If you leave the FS intact, it will install part of the OS and reboot, and you'll get this screen. What you would to then is hold the power button down for 10 sec, restart the machine and immediately press and hold the C key. This will tell the machine to boot from the CD, in this case, the Windows install disk. Once you do this, go in and tell the installer to format the drive.
If for whatever reason this doesn't work, boot back into OS X by restarting and holding the "Option/Alt", select Macintosh HD. Once OS X boots, find the boot camp assistant and give the Windows partition back to OS X, and start over.
So long as you DON'T select "Leave file system intact", you will not have to deal with this.

  • Boot Camp one more partation in windows 7 Professional 64 bit

I installed Marwicks and through Boot Camp Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and After installing windows 7 professional 64 bit I want to create another partation in windows but when i am creating another partation through windows disk management I am able to create another partation but after creating another partation it changes all disks to dynamic disks.
When I am coverting back disks from dynamic to basic disk through third party software it changes disks back to basic from dynamic disk except new partation.
And it leaves new partation as a unallocated space.
Can someone help me how to create one more Partation in windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
    Many Thanks in Advance

Once you install  Windows on a Mac you can NOT FOOL with any of the partitions in Windows or in OS X.
Hopefully OS X still boots. At startup hold down the Option/Alt key to get the Mac Boot manager/selection screen. Select yopur Mac OS X drive and boot to it. Run Boot Camp assistant and Remove the Windows partition/s if you can.
If not use Time Machine to backup the OS X partition and then you'll need to use the Online internet Recovery system to repartition your drive as One Partition to remove the FUBAR you have created. Then once that ios done restore your Mac from the Time Machine backup you created.
You can then use Boot Camp Assistant to recreate the Windows partition and reinstall Windows. Then do NOT try to make any other partitions in Windows or OS X.
