BCS Implementation

Hi Friends,
We are implementing SEM-BCS with our client. When I  tried to do the BCS configuration through Tcode UCWB, I could just find Data Basis and Consolidation Area Node in the Screen. I couldnt find any other nodes relating to configuration in the screen like, master data , consolidation function, consolidation monitor, etc. What could be the reason for that ? And wht changes are required in R/3, when implementing the SEM-BCS ? Just guide.

Hi,
that are a lot of questions!
First of all, please search the BCS-Forum for more information about "set-up SEM-BCS" or "installing" etc pp....
Plus search please for the OSS-Messages because there are a lot of them reguarding that topic!
Opening UCWB or UCMON won't show you anything. You need to setup a database by yourself OR activate the SEM-BCS Content from SAP (That is done by se38 -> UC_CONTENT_ACTIVATE -> SEM-BCS-600-1
BEFORE doing that - check the oss for that! Or you may end up with some errors in your system that you will regret !!

This is far too general to answer in this forum. I suggest you ask specific questions about the various functions available and pros and cons to each can be provided.

  • Trading Partner for open item document prior to BCS implementation

    Dear Experts,
We have just introduced BCS in our company currently. One of the difficulties the user are facing is that the open item (many of them - thousand open item with different currencies and exhange rate) prior to the introduction of BCS does not contain Trading Partner. This ended up that the adjustment on the Trading Partner has to be done in BCS regularly. The amount in value of adjustment is not fixed - since there could be subsequent payment that will clear the open item.
I understand that TP cannot be changed once posted. Have read a lot in the SAP portal and forum.
Question: Based on your experience, it there a way that I can overcome this problem? Could SAP somehow allow TP to be assigned to open item document prior to implementation of BCS?
I hope I can get some answer, otherwise, our user has to diligently continue to put the adjustment until all the open items are cleared.
    Thank you.
    Regards
    Fauzi

    hi,
Check whether the document type you are using to post is allowed to enter the trading partner.
To check use the TCODe OBA7  and select the relevent document type. then select the check box enter trading partner under control data.
and also check the customer you assigned for that posting key 01 is got assigned trading partner in the master record or not(TCOD XD02/XD03).
    thanks.

  • Concept of Integrated Consolidation Unit of SEM BCS

    HI Experts,
I'm now in the SEM BCS 4.0 and BW 3.5 implementation. Previously I was the ECCS specialist and before the FI and AM specialist.
Now I'm in SEM BCS implementation.
I have one question in connection to the integrated consolidation unit. As the reference, I take the concept of this using the ECCS.
As you might know, the creation of integrated consolidation unit for using realtime update method in ECCS, is pulled from FI company ID.
Meanings if I set the configuration properly, I can pull out the company master data as the consolidation unit master data in consolidation monitor.
Now, in SEM BCS, I want to do the same thing. I mean, off course I can create company ID in R/3 and then create the consolidation unit manually using UCWB. But this scenario can create inconsistency, and I also think this is not the right concept of doing integration between R/3 and SEM BCS.
My question is : what is the concept of this master data integration, and what is the proper way to do it?
Any advise on this question is highly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.
    regards,
    Halim

    Hi Halim,
You need to build properly your data basis in data model.
Assign your company to a consolidation unit role:

  • SEM BCS - Consolidation Chart of Accounts

    Hi all,
For the SEM-BCS implementation I am using ECC as the operational system. ECC folks are in the process of building a group chart of account in FI.
Can you suggests the work around to map group chart of account to consolidation chart of account in SEM-BCS?
    Thanks in advance
    RJ

I am not sure if anybody has replied you.
In SEM 4.0, You need to download the chart from R3 and then upload as hierrachy in the UCWB workbench.
In SEM.6.0, You have master data load direct from R3 and you can do the same.
    Functional advice:-
Normally R3 creates operational chart of account in R3. Each account has a group account feild, if populated the mapping of operational chart to group is amintained in R3 itself.
You can upload the GL master with group chart account number and then this will obviously have the mapping for your use in BCS.
Consolidation chart of account in R3 (if its the accepted group chart) will be the same group chart which your ECC guys are preparing.
Are they using ECCS in R3??

  • R/3 preperation for BCS

    Dear Friends,
I am currently involved in an SEM BCS implementation. Before the data is extracted from R/3 to BCS i need to do certain data preperation on the R/3 side such as
    1) Maintain the trading partner in vendor and customer masters 2) Maintain group chart of accounts in the GL.
What else needs to be done for enabling elimination of profits on inventory.
Shall highly appreciate if you can guide me on the same.
    Thanks and Regards
    Parmanand.

    Hi Eugene,
Thanks for your prompt reply, but can you please tell me as to what are the additional activities to be done in R/3 for capturing the product group information to enable the "Elimination of profits on inventory".
    Further Note 852971 states that
The DataSource 0FI_GL_10 is available for extraction but it does not capture the trading partner information, instead the note suggests that DataSource 0SEM_BCS_10 can be used but note "1008953" - Delta for 0SEM_BCS_10 is not supported. suggests that you have to use full upload method instead of delta if you are using the latter. So would you suggest the use of DataSource 0FI_GL_10 or DataSource 0SEM_BCS_10.
    Thanks

  • Migration from FB (Former Budgeting) to BCS - Commitments/Actuals

    Dear Experts,
We are going to migrate our system from FB (Former Budgeting) to BCS, in the middle of the current year.
The migration activities deal only with Budget data migration.
My question is:  How to migrate Commitments and Actuals ?
    We use only Payment Budget
    Please advise
    Yaacov

    Dear Yaakov,
Are you thoroughly clear on the concept and functionality of Budget Control System?
Compared to FB, BCS provides changes to 2 main functionalities in PSM-FM:
    1, Budgeting/planning
    2, Availability Control (AVC)
-> This means, that the processes / functionalities / technical details for commitments/actuals are not changed in any way by implementing / migrating BCS.
The BCS implementation changes the data structures for budgeting tables. That is why migration of data from old budget tables to new ones is needed (even this is not mandatory, if you choose to use old reports for old budget data). You can check budget table correspondency between FB and BCS here: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_rc10/helpdata/en/c3/2c344071c82b22e10000000a1550b0/content.htm
The main point is, that commitment/actuals data is not changed, and thus no migration for those is possible (or needed). The commitments remain to be updated in table FMIOI and actuals in table FMIT. You just need to use the new BCS reports to view for example budget consumption when BCS has been activated (for example report FMRP_RW_BUDCON).
Also, you might want to consider if the migration of the old budget data is overall an absolutely mandatory requirement. Technically, you do not need to run any migration, but you can use old FB reports for previous fiscal years and just simply load only future budgeting data into the BCS. At my customer it was decided that no migration is needed, and we went successfully live with BCS withtout any issues. For past fiscal years they will be using FB reports.

  • SEM-BCS  vs Hyperion

My client is unable to take a decision on software selection between Hyperion and SEM BCS - 4.0 for consolidations. The company is already implemented SAP -4.6c and wants to go for consolidation implementation. Hence, client is in dilemma for choosing software. Can anybody face the situation where SEM-BCS is superior than Hyperion software. if so, Please forward me the presentation/ comparison to support the SEM-BCS implementation.
    thanks

    Hello
SEM BCS and ECCS both are consolidation applications of SAP System.
ECCS is based on R/3 where as SEM BCS is based on BW.
There are no special circumstances, however SEM BCS is the latest version. Moreover the recent direction of SAP is towards BPC u2013
    Business Planning & Consolidation.
    Hope this helps.

  • SEM-BCS data extractor from ECC general ledger table(s)

We are a utility company working on an SEM-BCS implementation and use the FERC solution.  We do not use the new GL.  We are trying to extract the transaction data from ECC to a BI virtual remote cube.  We cannot use the profit center extractor (0EC_PCA_3) as the profit center tables do not contain any ferc data.  We need to be able to extract the transaction data from a general ledger table.  We have run into several issues with various extractors we have tried because they donu2019t allow direct access (0FI_GL_4) or are at a summary level and we canu2019t extract group account, trading partner, and transaction type detail (0FI_GL_1).  Would you have any suggestions on how to extract general ledger data with the detail information required from ECC to be able to load to a BI virtual remote cube?

We are going forward with getting the natural account detail data using the profit center extractor 0EC_PCA_3, and getting the ferc summary data using the general ledger extractor 0FI_GL_1.  With our testing so far, this combination will provide us the data we need in BCS.

  • Open and Close periods/Fiscal years

    Dear All
We are in the process of FM-BCS implementation, we observed thre is transaction code (FMOPER) for open the Budget periods. This is working for Budget workbech (FBMM) only. But at the time of Actual Postings even period is not open in FMOPER system is allowing for actual postings.
Kindly suggest where we can control actual postings through period open/cose option in FM-BCS.
    Thanks in advance
    Rao

    Hi Rao,
You need to be aware of all the impact of the use of PBET (Period-Based Encumbrance Tracking) before activating it in transaction OF39. This is not a simple change, it impacts all your integrated postings that come from all other areas (FI, CO, MM, SD) into FM.
You cannot use any FM update date other than the POSTING date when PBET is active.
One common error when you activate PBET is FI_E050 - Posting date/period 00/00/0000 is earlier than existing
    date/period 00/00/0000.
If you want updating to take place on the delivery date, you must return profile to Fiscal Year Based (non-PBET) updating.
This step will also eliminate the error FI_E050.
Part of the basic PBET logic, aims at recording a detailed change history of every single document in FM.
For more details on this, please also refer to the program documentation  and chapter Public Sector Management -> Funds Management -> Recording Actual and Commitment Data -> Period-Based Encumbrance Tracking.
The standard functionality when PBET is active is to use the system date as the FM posting date. However, you do have 3 options to overwrite this:
    Document Creation:
    1.- Version Management (PR/PO)
2.- FM updating date is the document posting date.
    Document Change:
1.- System use FM_TRANS_DATE date as FM updatign date, if this date is not filled, system use system date as FM updating date.
If customer want to change this logic, the FM updating date is decided by one of the following three steps, in order shown.
    - Version Management (PR/PO): Posting date of version
    - Transaction FMOD to override the update date by user
    - Activate user exit EXIT_SAPLFMFA_004 so that a popup screen is
displayed that permits entering the FM posting date, you could
manually set the date found in the document header to a later date.
      - you could manually set the date found in the document header to a
    later date (System date  SY_DATUM).
PBET is Periodic-based encumbrance tracking and it is a function that monitors encumbrances per period, with a change record issued for each change made within a period. This function belongs to Funds Management Area (PSM-FM).
If PBET is active, system does not allow posting to a date earlier than the present date, you will receive error FI_E050 in case this is not satisfied. Follow are two comments form the code which indicate same:
"No new dates can be earlier than the original or new account assignment line items".
"Ensure that new fm update dates are not older than original date or if a change, this change must be latest date in document"
To use or not to use PBET is customer decision and this impact that the period is verified more strictly than without PBET. Maybe you should consider with your consultant if using PBET is the best solution for your business processes.
    Best Regards,
    Vanessa.

  • Profit Centre Hierarchy

    Hi,
When you do the consolidation by profit center,do you use profit center or profit center group as the cons unit?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Herwin,
. Is there any important relationship between 1000cons unit based on profit centre and the matrix organization/pc only?
    - In case of non-matrix you have just a number of your ConsUnits. In case of matrix you have a combination of units. I saw a holding with a couple of thousands of Companies and about 10000 profit centers. Imagine how many combination Co+PC may exist in such holding. It almost always makes BCS implementation more time- and resources-consuming.
.which one do u recommend (matrix or management consol only)?
    - I almost answered this question yet. Management Consolidation should be much easier than a matrix one. Matrix is needed when there is a necessety to have balanced Fin Statement from both points of view: Co and PC.

  • SEM / BW upgrade advise required - Please help urgently

    Hi,
We have migrated from a different company (January 2006) where they were using SEM -BPS and BCS. After the migration, we are not using SEM. Our BW version is 3.10. Our SAP R/3 version is 4.6C.
Now, We are planning to implement SEM- BCS. Our existing system component informations are as below.
    SAP_BW - Release 3.10 (Support pack 22)
    SEM_BW -Release 3.50 (Support pack17)
    SAP_BASIS - Release 6.20 (Support pack 54)
    SAP_ABA -Release 6.20 (Support pack 54)
    PI_BASIS - 2004_1_620 (Support pack 10)
    FINBASIS -200 (Support pack18)
    BI_CONT - 330 (Support pack 17)
We have the following questions. Please advise.
    1. Understood that the mainstream maintenance for BW 3.10 has ended on December 2006 ( The same for SAP_SEM: 3.50 also). So, If we upgrade to BW3.5 (Netweaver 2004), whether we will get the SEM 4.00 along with the upgrade so that we will have everything BW 3.5 and SEM 4.0 in a single box?
    2. I am still seeing that the SEM_BW version 3.50 in the system component informations. Does that mean that we still have SEM components within BW 3.10?  If yes, can we upgrade this to SEM 4.00 so that our BW system will get  upgrade to BW 3.5?
    3. Or what is the alternative, you suggest so that we will have SEM4.0
We are confused. Please advise at your earliest.
Please also send some links where we can compare the versions for BW/ SEM.
    Thanks .

    Hi,
With BW 3.5 you'll need to upgrade SEM to SEM 4.0.
With 3.1 you'll have SEM components if you had installed SEM earlier. You can upgrade SEM separately in this case. Check the release notes to make sure that it dosen't require any upgrade or patch upgrades to your existing BW components.
For your BCS implementation, check what functionality you need, because most of the functionality that BCS projects use are available with BW 3.5 and SEM 4.0. So chances are that even f just upgrade SEM to ver 4.0 you might still have to upgrade your BW to ver 3.5 in order to utilize the full functionality.
You can search this forum for links on the upgrade and comparisions. Other good sources will be the release notes for upgrades on the SAP site.

  • COI activity - change in capitalization (Rights issue)

    Hi,
Please can you provide a solution to handle the following business scenario. (SAP help documentation mentions that the product does not support the decrease in stake resulting from change in capitalization)
How to handle Rights Issue resulting in stake dilution of holding company?
Business Scenario - Co. A has 80% stake in company B (at first consolidation level)
Company B issues additional equity(rights issue) which is not exercised by Co. A. This is bought by others(minority)
As a result, the stake of Co. A in B decreases from 80% to say 60%(dilution of stake of A)
Can you please tell how should the AFD(in terms of COI activity numbers/types) be provided to handle this situation. Because for activity - Increase in capitalization - SAP standard says that the % shareholding doesnt change.
    Waiting for your valuable inputs.
    Thanks
    AJ

    Hi AV,
I'll try to give the entire scenario in detail -
Co. A is parent company of Co. B (100% subsidiary)
    First acquisition -
    Investment data 100000
    Equity share capital - 100000
    Reserves  23205
    hence, total equity - 71795
Goodwill posted after first conso 28205
Next period - Co. B increases its equity share capital by -50000
which is provided to system in AFD with CI activity 05
Co. A's share gets diluted because all additional equity is taken by external parties.
Say it gets diluted to 82.11%
So in investment data I provided -17.89% as change in shares, with activity type 10 and investment value zero.
System posts two docs - one for increase in capitalization and another for partial divestiture
    1. Increase in capitalization document -
    Equity share capital is reversed(+50000)
and entire -50000 goes in negative goodwill (since the investment was zero)
    2. Partial divestiture document - 8945 (17.89% of 50000)is posted in "Profit from divestiture" and Minority interest is also created of 8945
This doesnt serve my purpose of "Dilution of stake resulting from additional equity issued by subsidiary company"
Goodwill posted earlier(in first conso) is not getting affected?
Please give me some inputs because this is a very common business scenario..and whoever has done a BCS implementation must have tested for this scenario...
    Regards
    AJ
