BEFW11S4 Problems

I have a BEFW11S4 router that I have used for years.  I got a new computer about 6 months ago that has Windows Vista and as far as I know it still was working fine.  A few weeks ago I realized that the wireless connection was no longer secure and that anyone could access my internet.  I went on this site and tried to find a solution.  I changed the following settings:
Under Wireless Tab:
Basic Wireless Settings: I changed the SSID named and enabled everything
Wireless Security: I enabled it and typed in a WPA shared key (the one that I originally had with this router)
It looks as though my wireless connection is now secure and you need the network key to use it, but whenever I try to connect, it says there is limited or no connectivity.  I think it also knocks my main computer offline too, and I have to reboot everything to get it working again.  What can I do???
Thanks!

Make sure that whatever  info you entered into the router matches the info for the wireless adapter. You can follow the steps below to make sure. Of course you can change the security settings to the settings that are available to you.
Setting up your wireless connection in your router.
1.Open Internet Explorer and type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar.
2.You will now get a sign-in box, User Name = (Leave Blank)
Password = admin (all lower case letters)
3.Once the set-up page opens, click on the Wireless Tab as youwill need to change the settings. A) Wireless Network Mode = Mixed
              B) Wireless Network Name (SSID) = Choose any name and do not use Linksys.
              C) Wireless Channel = 1, 6 or 11 is best, so see which work best for you.
              D) Wireless SSID Broadcast = Enabled.
4. Now go to the bottom of the page and click on save settings.
5. Click on the Wireless Security Sub tab.
              A) Security Mode: WPA
              B) WPA Algorithms: TKIP + AES
              C) WPA Shared Key:  Type 24 letters, and numbers using lower and upper case letters
              D) Group Key Renewal: 3600
6. Once again go to the bottom of the page and click on Save Settings.
7. Now you can close out of this page.
8. You will now need to enter the security info into your computer. I will now give you 2 links, depending which operating system you have, Vista or XP you will follow the one you have.
Vista = http://www.home-network-help.com/wireless-adapter-configuration-in-vista.html
XP = http://www.home-network-help.com/wireless-adapter.html
Now try to make a wireless connection.
Good Luck,
Ttech

  • BEFW11S4 Problem

    Hi all,
I have a BEFW11S4 router that I bought a very long time ago and all has worked fine until recently.
My problem is that I cannot save many of my configurations as the router prompts me for a user name and password. It doesn't matter what I put in the blanks (right or wrong) the user name/password box keeps coming up. Any ideas? I've tried the default password and it doesn't work either. It's truly annoying.
I'm running the most current firmware and have done all I can think of.
    Thanks.

    Hi
You should do a factory reset only as a last option though.
    Just helping out...

  • BEFW11S4 problem with XP

I have a BEFW11S4 v2 that I've been using at home for a number of years to support two wired computers upstairs, a wireless one downstairs and the occasional transient.  So far, I've not had any problems with wireless connections.
Originally, both wired systems were Win98 and worked flawlessly.  When one of those systems was upgraded to XP Pro it started having problems losing the connection to the router.  Attempting to reconnect using the Windows repair button or manually requesting a new IP address fail.  I would have to shut down the XP system, shut down the router, then power them up, router first, to get everything running again.   Since my daughter took the XP box to college, it wasn't all that big a deal.  However, I have since upgraded the other system to XP Pro SP2 and it now has exactly the same problem.  XP is current with all patches and the BEFW11S4 v2 has the most recent firmware.
The system seems to remain connected as long as it's in use, but if left unused for more an 24 hours it usually loses the connection and must be rebooted.
Any ideas what's different between 98 and XP that may cause this?
    I appreciate any suggestions.
    Mike

I'm having a similar problem - router has been working well for the last several years with two systems - W98 and WXP Pro. Added a second/new XP Pro system and now router hangs and must be rebooted anywhere from every 5 minutes to several hours when new XP Pro system is powered on. Still no problems at all with either of the other two systems. I've checked the MTU value and it is correct. Any solutions out there for this problem? I can supply config information if that would help identify and fix the problem.

  • BEFW11S4 Problems with Laptop and Xbox 360

For the past few weeks my Linksys BEFW11S4 has been malfunctioning. When I try to connect to the wireless network from my laptop, it says "Not Connected" but I can still access the internet for a few minutes before it really disconnects. Unplugging the router and plugging it back in lets me connect again, but still it gives the "Not Connected" message and boots me off within a few minutes. It has also been causing problems with my Xbox 360. It is connected with an ethernet cable to the router, but every time I turn the Xbox on it says that it is not connected. After I unplug the router and plug it back in, the problem is fixed, and I can go online on my Xbox for as long as I want. Anyone know how to fix this?

It seems that router is not configured properly ..... checkthe firmware version on the status page of router ..... .
Upgrade the firmware if required .....

  • WRT54G v3 and BEFW11S4 Problems

It started off like this. My WRT54G Suddenly Bricked on me out of the blue. I dont know what caused it. So i hooked up my old BEFW11S4 to find a way to unbrick the Wireless G And i remembered it had the same wireless settings as the Wireless G. the Wireless was working fine For a while but it started timing out. so i get on the computer thats hooked up to the router via ethernet and i noticed the act/link light was blinking at a rapid rate but windows(vista) was saying the connection had little to no connectivity and couldnt ping the the Router. So i reset the router and it was acting wierd the Power started blinking and thats all, then i held the reset button even longer, but it came back on so i set everything back up and I quickly looked for a way to fix my wireless G, and it worked i got my wireless G back working. I set everything back up changed the router password, SSID and set it not to broadcast because I thought someone got into my router and started changing things. After a few hours the wireless G started acting strange again so reset it and it started Restarting By its self while the Powerlight constantly blinks. i held the reset button untill Dmz light came on nad the router stopped resetting itself. so i used the TFTP program from the site and it said the flash was successful and the router stopped responding. (I had cmd window running  ping -t 192.168.1.1)The router restarted and it went back to what it was doing before, constantly restarting it self.
I hooked the Wireless B back up and that rapid blinking activity light was bothering me so i restarted the computer while the computer was  off the like was still blinking. so when windows finished starting up i changed the link speed 100mbps full/half duplex made the the router blink but it stopped when i set it to 10mbps full.
Is it possible that one of my computers is causing my routers to act strange?

Well try upgrading the firmware of the router & keep on holding tightly
the reset button in such a way that power light is blinking on the
router & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power
cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug in the power cable to the router & check out it will definately work!!
Also, the advanced wireless settings to Beacon Interval=50,Frag
thres=2306 & Rts thres=2307 & then uncheck a Block Anonymous Internet Requests & it will definately work!!!

  • Wireless-B Broadband Router(BEFW11S4) Problem

I bought a Wireless-B Broadband Router(BEFW11S4) from someone but it didn't came with the CD is there another way to install it like a driver or something like that

There is no "driver" for your router.  Your router has firmware that resides on a flash memory chip in the router.  Check your router to see which version of the router you have.  This should be listed on the bottom of the router, near the serial number.
    To setup your router:
First, download the User Guide from the Linksys web site:
    http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Content_C1&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1115416835852&...
Next, reset the router to factory defaults (see the User Guide for directions).
Then go to Linksys.com > Support > Technical Support > EasyLink Home Networking Tools > then use EasyLink Connect to configure your router.

  • Internet IP 0.0.0.0 ?? cant connect at all?? BEFW11S4 problems

My Internet Ip is 0.0.0.0, im using a BEFW11S4 as my main router, and connected to
my main router i have a switch which has two computers connected to it, the
computers have no internet, but the one computer i have connected to
the BEFW11S4 does have internet, and when i try to connect one of the other
computers to the main linksys router, they do not work either, when i log onto the
interface of the linksys router, it shows all the computers connected, but they just
dont have internet, i think there is something in the interface that is preventing me
from getting on the internet, i dont know what it is, but it has to be something, is
there any type of hint or tip that anyone can give me? and is there a way to get onto
the interface of a switch? thanks.

In your issue u r able to go online with the first comp. connected to the befw11s4 correct may be that comp. might be connected to the modem with an usb cable check that out first if it is so disconnect that usb cable and power cyle the modem and the router...  if not make sure that you connected the modem to the internet port of the router...
if your internet service provider is going to be a dsl connection like verizon r sbc...something like that then you will be having a connection manger icon under the network connections if it going to say connected then disconnect it...
and log in to the router page and changed the internet connection type to ppoe...and type the user name and the password given by your internet service provider and save the settings and when go to the satus tab on the router it should say the logging status connected if you r going to get that mess then all the comp. will go online...
and also the other chance would be if u r going to connec the comp. directly to the modem and if u check the ip add. and if it is going to be in the range as 192.168.1.x.......
then u need to change the router's lan ip to 192.168.2.1...then power cycle the router then every thing will work..try this steps
    thank u

  • BEFW11S4 Problems, Just read and try to help!

I have a BEFW11S4, i have one computer directly connected to the BEFW11S4, and the internet works fine, that is what i
am using now, but i have another coord going into a Netgear router, and i have 2 computers connected to the netgear router that
arent working at all, and i also have a wireless laptop that isnt working either, my question is why is the one computer working
but the other three not? and i also looked into the advanced settings, in the router, and it shows the INTERNET IP ADDRESS at
0.0.0.0, so i have no idea what could possible be wrong, and ideas?

First lets address the second NetGear router.  Make sure on that router you change its IP address to the same IP range that your Linksys router is using.  To do that you have to access the NetGear's user interface and change the IP to 192.168.2.1 and disable the DHCP.  If that router is set up to keep the two segments separate the assign a static IP in the Linksys router and set the IP in the NetGear to that IP.  That will give that segment (subnet) internet access and you will not see each other.
Now on the wireless issue did you set up your SSID so you can identify it when you do a site survey from your laptop?  If their are other wireless networks in your area make sure your channel is set at least four away from the other wireless networks.  Also when or if you set up any security on the wireless network use either WPA or WPA2 (if your wireless devices support it) and make sure you can remember them or write them down so when you connect your laptop you can enter the settings exactly. If your laptop will not see your SSID then make sure you have broadcast SSID enabled and your antennas are firmly attached.

  • BEFW11S4 Problems, Can't Enter Configuration

Is there a way to restore the factory settings on a BEFW11S4 without entering the internal configuration pages? I was trying to open a port for SHOUTcast use when the router disconnected me and stopped working. My PC won't recognize if the cable between the router and the modem is unplugged, and the IP given to access the router won't work along with any other internet-related activity.

Never mind, I got it. Didn't know you had to hold the reset button for 30 seconds. However I would still like help with opening ports for use.

  • Linksys Router BEFW11S4 problems with iphone

i have a linksys router bedfw11s4 version 4 and im having problems with wifi on my iphone
i can search and connect to my router but the interent is extremely slow
i have no problems with my laptop
i read some info on this board regarding changing it to static ip but im having problems figuring out how to config it
when i goto into my router setting i only see 1 DNS address

So on your IPhone you are getting connected to your Wireless Network, but the Internet is working slow, then i would suggest you to change some settings on your Router....
Once you login to the router setup page, Under Wireless ... Change the Wireless channel to 11-2.462GHz and click on Save Settings....
Then under Advacnce Wireless Settings.... Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings".....
Now check if your IPhone, how is the Internet Speed....
If still slow then i would suggest you to upgrade the firmware of your Router....
Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop..
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • BEFW11S4 Problems - Says connected but will not connect to Internet

Hello, everyone, I have one desktop hooked up to a BEFW11S$ router. I also have another desktop and a notebook running off of it. The main one, as well as the other desktop work perfectly fine, while the other desktop is just a  bit on the slow side, but the laptop, which says it is connected will not connect to any form of internet, whether it be IE or MSN. I'm not sure, but I think the connection between the computers needs re-establishing. Though I have no idea how to go about doing this... Any help? T.T

Hi… I would suggest you to delete preferred wireless networks on your wireless laptop, and then try to reconnect to the wireless network. Also check what ip address you are getting, is it a valid ip address from the router. Try deleting cookies in internet explorer. Then check the connection. You cannot change anything on the router because other two computers are working fine.

  • BEFW11S4- problems with internal firewall?

    Hi,
I have had this router for the past three years.  We had to movfe the set-up around and now we can not access certain websites due to security issues.  I contact my ISP and when I hook my computer up directly to the ISP modem all the websites work.  When I hook up my linksys router I can't access them any longer.  My ISP told me this is because of an internal firewall in this router.  Any suggestions on how to change these internal settings.  I read through the user guide and I'm guessing that i need to reconfigure everything, but wanted to ask first!
    Thanks!

i think you should try upgrading the router's firmware .. after the upgrade reset and reconfigure the router ..

  • BEFW11S4 v2 Wireless Problems w/ Vista

I've have a BEFW11S4 v2 (firmware version: 1.45.10) wireless router for several years.  For the past year I've been running a Vista laptop along with my XP desktop.  The Vista laptop has been connected via wireless and desktop wired for the past year without a problem.
About a week ago, I upgraded my Time Warner Cable Road Runner service to add phone service.  The upgrade required Time Warner to come out and replace my cable modem.  Since then, I can't connect to the internet via my router.  My laptop sees the wireless network, and even connects to it, but it does not allow me to access the internet.
I understand from reading this forum that there were some problems with compatibility with Vista (surprise!).  I want to know if anyone has figured out a work around to this problem.  Obviously, it worked with my Vista laptop before.
    Thanks!

As you Modem has been replaced....you need to reconfigure the router

  • Playstation 3 - connection problems with BEFW11S4

I am having trouble connecting my Playstation 3 to the internet via my BEFW11S4 wireless router.
The PS3 scans and finds the router ok (signal strength is good), I enter the SSID, WLAN security setting is WPA-PSK (TKIP), I enter the WPA key and select 'Easy' in the Address settings page.
The PS3 comes back with the following error message
A connection to the access point could not be established. Check the security settings for the wireless LAN (8013013E)
Does anybody have any idea what I might be doing wrong?
I have a laptop and desktop which connect via this router with no problems.
Someone suggested switching off the router security - might this help? - how would I do that exactly?
Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks.
Message Edited by BennyBoy on 04-01-200705:46 AM

    Thanks for the replies....
I made two adjustments - turned off the router security and manually entered an IP address in the PS3 (as advised on another forum) - not sure which of these made a difference (I'm sure through trial and error I could work it out) but it seems to be working ok now.
However the connection speed seems very slow - to download the latest system update took over an hour - it shouldn't be this slow should it?
Any advice on how to achieve a faster speed?
