Behind the WebUI: WebDynpro or BSP?
Hey there,
does someone know which technology is used for the WebUI in CRM 7.0? WebDynpro oder BSP?
Best regards,
Florian
As already mentioned in the other replies CRM WebClient is BSP based. If you are interested please find a quite interesting Webinar about the SAP UI strategy. A lot of talk about Web Dynpro but also it's relation to the CRM WebClient.

Javascript window.open in BSP: new window is opened behind the main window
Hello,
I use following code to open a new window in my BSP application:
window.open("<%= controller->display_url%>").focus();
The new windows is openned up, but hide behind the main window, I need the new window to stay at the front, any idea?
On one computer running IE7, the new windows is opened and stay at the front. But not for all other computers running IE6.
Thanks, JinjinHi,
We used the below logic :
<htmlb:button id = "help"
text = "Help"
design = "standard"
onClientClick = "window.open('http://www.sap.com')"
tooltip = "Help"
/>
It worked fine for us.
Try this.
Thanks,

Hi,
As far as I can tell, WebDynPro and BSP are competing technologies. They both basicly accomplish the same goals although in different ways. So how do I know which technology is best for my company? Should I base it on our internal goals & strategies and look at the technologies or should I be looking at other factors?
-JohnHi John,
Well, I am not working for SAP. But what I see right now, is that everything is moving to WebDynpro. As an example, Personnel Change Requests - MSS (available for ITS, BSP, JSP and Adobe) are moving to an encapsulated WebDynpro application with Adobe Forms in it.
What I expect is that over a few years WebDynpro is the standard, and BSP is old technology.
To make sure your decision will be based on a strategy decision, maybe a customer message will help you further.
Regards,
Noel

Advantages of ABAP Webdynpros over BSP??
Hi,
We are currently in ECC6.0. Is ABAP Webdynpro advantageous over BSP for any UI development ECC6.0 onwards in general?
Specific requirement for which BSP is needed - we need a single application for a Help Desk team to handle calls from customers. The application will have multiple screens with data flowing into this application from multiple sources.
Need inputs on the above....
TIA,
Regards
Deepthi>Both webdynpro and BSP call ABAP function modules from HTTP. The BSP interface does this via programming in SE80, the webdynpro does this via programming in the Java development workbench. The BSP enters the SAP systenm via the ICM and is 'routed' to ICF where call are then made to executre ABAP (a good example is we use SOAP BSP's). Webdynpro routes via the ICM to the Java engine which then executes the Java to call the functions via an RFC interface called a JCo connection.
There are many incorrect statements in your posting. You appear to be compairing BSP to Web Dynpro Java - not Web Dynpro ABAP. Why would you do this in a Web Dynpro ABAP forum posting? Of course everything you stated about Web Dynpro running on the Java engine and using JCo and being programmed in the Java development workbench is totally wrong if you are comparing to Web Dynpro ABAP.
Here is the explaination of the differences from the SAP Press Book: Next Generation ABAP development (page 303):
Web Dynpro ABAP is SAPu2019s new UI strategy, which was introduced in SAP
NetWeaver 7.0. It is based on the Model View Controller (MVC) paradigm
that separates business logic from the user interface logic. Developers, like
Russel, can use this tool to develop robust business applications quickly and
easily, without ever having to deal with the inner coding of the user interface
elements.
The Web Dynpro ABAP framework provides a WYSIWYG view editor (What
You See Is What You Get) where the developer simply drags and drops the UI
elements into the view. This means that there is no coding of the UI elements.
This is not the case when working with Business Server Pages (BSP),
where the developer must know some HTML or JavaScript in order to code
the user interface.
The Web Dynpro framework approach can be viewed in a number of ways.
If a developer is not proficient in HTML or JavaScript, the Web Dynpro
ABAP tool looks pretty good. He doesnu2019t have to worry about coding the UI
and he can focus more on the business application logic. On the other hand,
if the developer wants to add his own look and feel or some additional UI
functionality to the Web Dynpro ABAP UI, he canu2019t. The UI implementation
is hidden from the developer and cannot be manipulated, such as adding
your own HTML or JavaScript. The reason for this protection is that Web
Dynpro was developed to provide a standard business application user interface
across all applications that leverage this tool.
There is another advantage to the client abstraction approach that Web Dynpro
takes. When you design a user interface in Web Dynpro, what is saved is
just a metadata representation of the layout and elements. In other words,
Web Dynpro is not tied to just HTML and JavaScript as its output medium.
The Web Dynpro runtime analyzes the type of client that is making a request and responds with the appropriate rendering output. Today that means web browsers are making the request and receiving HTML and JavaScript. But, in the future, when the next great UI revolution occurs, you wonu2019t necessarily
have to recreate your applications to take advantage of it. Already you can see examples of a smart client and Adobe Flex based rendering engines for Web Dynpro. Switching to these alternative presentation tools requires no coding changes within the applications themselves. -

vijayTwo possible options, not sure however how this will work in practice.
1. use the URL and pass additional parameters (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/7b/fb57412df8091de10000000a155106/content.htm)

vijayHi Vijay,
if the BSP application and WebDynpro application both run in the same SAP ABAP instance you can use server-side cookies.
Just because sside-cookie functionality was built for BSP there is no reason you can't use them for any ABAP application.

Call webdynpro from BSP (MVC)
Hi, gurus!
I have simple bsp created using MVC. I have my own component which includes MainWindow with controller class by default and a view with controller class and model class. Everything was created using Wizard.
I need to call webdynpro app from this BSP in WEB UI. I have a code that get WD url, then I'm trying to use navigation in DO_REQUEST method whih I redefine for a view controller class:
data: l_wd_url type string.
call method cl_wd_utilities=>construct_wd_url
exporting application_name = 'Z_XR_BP_COURCES'
importing out_absolute_url = l_wd_url .
navigation->goto_page( l_wd_url ).
In test mode it's working fine, but when I call this BSP through WEB UI I recieve an error message:
"Business Server Page (BSP) error
What happened?
Calling the BSP page was terminated due to an error."
Sorry, if my question a little bit stupid =), but i'm new in BSP.
Could anyone help me?Hi,
Please check in SDN before posting the questions.
Check with the following link [Webdynpro from BSP (MVC)|Call Webdynpro Application from BSP Application;
Hope this helps you.

Objective: Creation of a Marketing Profile Set based on the standard CRM_MKTTG_BP_BIRTHDATE Infoset thru the WebUI Segment Builder.
Problems: Standard CRM_MKTTG_BP_BIRTHDATE Infoset DOES NEVER RETURN ANY RESULTS on the segmentation builder of the WebUI client (no matter the filter you specify).
Other cases: However if we create a new Data source with data "Extraction from Query" (transaction RS02) based on this standard CRM_MKTTG_BP_BIRTHDATE Infoset and we test the functionality using transaction RSA3, IT DOES RETURN RESULTS (using the same filters as in the segmentation builder)! Of course the segmentation builder works with other attribute lists.
NEW: IF WE DON’T ESPECIFY ANY SEGMENTATION BASE IN THE PROFILE GROUP, IT DOES RETURN RESULTS!!! (GO TO THE END OF THE DOCUMENT FOR DETAILS)
Steps followed:
Review Standard Infoset CRM_MKTTG_BP_BIRTHDATE (Transaction SQ02).Review Data Reading Program code: do we have to change the standard code? We have only remove the "BREAK-POINT" statement.
Creation of a Data source based on the standard CRM_MKTTG_BP_BIRTHDATE Infoset (Transaction CRMD_MKTDS).
Creation of an Attribute List based on that standard Data source and selection the Birth date as a filter in the Attribute list (Transaction CRMD_MKTDS).
On the segment builder of the WebUI set any filter (Example: “TODAY”).

With other attribute lists it takes some time to process, no matter the filter or the attribute list you use. However if we create a new Data source with data "Extraction from Query" (transaction RS02) based on this standard CRM_MKTTG_BP_BIRTHDATE Infoset and we test the functionality using transaction RSA3, IT DOES RETURN RESULTS (with “today” filter and other)! So it seems that the problem has to do with the segment builder, not the Infoset.
Result: it never return any results no matter the filter you specify.

We specify the Data source:

But we need to create this Profile Set based on a particular Segmentation Basis called BS Usuarios Registrados. Why is not posible to select Category 02 Segmentation Basis in the creation of the Attribute List???It seems that the standard Infoset doesn’t work by itself with Segmentation Basis. Two SAP notes have been applied and a new Field Group has been added to the Infoset (in order to distint the Segmentation Base).

Second monitor "hide" the programs behind the screen background.
Hi!
Updated my system a couple of days ago. When I rebooted, my second screen comes up as normal, except I can't get anything to show on that screen.
The primary screen works as normal. The second screen shows the background and conky, but when I try to open anything on the screen, it opens, kind of behind the background. I can use the program, and drag it to the first screen. Then I see it. It's almost like the screen background covers it.
Have a nvidia GPU and using Awesome as VM.
Anyone have an idea what the problem might be?

I set a theme on igoogle - but it seems to now be embedded in my firefox as it is behind the url box, behind the bookmark tab bar and at the bottom of the page. How do I get rid of it. I can still change themes but they stay on the google page as they should. this has nothing to do with my screen saver and my desktop screens - they are different and ok - seems to be stuck in Firefox particularly.

Another port question - multiple Macs behind the same firewall
I've searched for this issue, but I can't seem to find a topic directly on point. I know how to forward the right points for this to work, but...
I'm coming from outside the network, and I need to control multiple machines that are behind the same firewall. I can't forward a port to more than one machine. How do I control all these machines?To be able to connect to a workstation from outside it's network, the ports that ARD uses must be open on both ends of the connection. ARD uses ports 3293 and 5900 so those must be open.
If your workstations get their addresses from an NAT device rather than being "real", as seems to be the case from your description, the ports also need to be forwarded in the router to the workstation's internal IP address. ARD uses port 3283 for the reporting and updating function, so if your Macs are getting their IP addresses through NAT, since you can only forward a port to a single workstation, you can only get reports, push package/files to etc. for a single workstation.
ARD uses the VNC protocol for observation and control, though, and there are a range of IP addresses for that protocol, starting with 5900. ARD uses 5900 by default, so that port would be forwarded to the first workstation. You would, I believe, need to install VNC servers on the systems (since the ARD client cannot listen on any port other than 5900 while VNC servers can be set for other ports such as 5901, 5902, etc. You would then forward 5901 to the second workstation (and on to 5902, 5903, etc.). You can then use the following information:
Remote Desktop 2: How to specify a port number for a VNC client
to connect.
Hope this helps.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic before you post a question.
Regards.

I'm working with InDesign CS6, Windows 7.
Is there a way, using paragraph rules, to create a heading with shading behind the text and thin lines above and below the text?
I'd like to create headings that look like these:
Thank you!I have a document where I almost do such, but without the fill. I use a Head Style which Spans Columns for this instance; it allows the haeds to flow and fill the width.
Paragraph Rules above and below are turned on with plenty of offset.
I tweaked my setting to accomodate your need - It required only one instance, not above and below, and changing the stroke to a double stroke.
It may be necessary to create a custom stroke to modify the proportion of stroke vs fill. There is a difference of thin-thin and thick-thick, neither of which seemed perfect but might be dependent on the Character height.
Creating custom strokes is accomplished via the Strokes Panel. -
Just updated my iPhone 4 from IOS 6.1.3 to 7.1.2, I know I am behind the times, but I got there eventually! All seems well but I have one specific problem and hope someone can offer a helpful suggestion.
On opening the app "Find my iPhone" I add my password and sign in, to be greeted with a screen that says;
"Update Find My iPhone. A new version of Find My iPhone is available from the App. Store. You must install the update to continue using the app. Update now"
On hitting the "Update now" button I'm taken to the relevant page on the App Store, to be told that I cannot update as it needs IOS8 to be able to continue and as my iPhone is only a 4 cannot install IOS8.
I'm left going around in circles. The only thing would be to delete the app, but looks like I could not re-install the version I would need. Any body have any thoughts or suggestions? (Apart from updating my phone, I have a few months left on the contract!)
Thanks in advance.Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried as you suggested, and when opening the "purchased" apps some have the icloud logo next to them, but I only have "OPEN" against "Find My iPhone". When opening it up, it goes through the same routine; needs to be updated before proceeding, and wouldn't update because I don't have IOS8.
Anything else I could try, or am I doomed!
All of your help is much appreciated, thanks -
Calendar on iOS 7. Anyone noticed that when you enter text into the "notes section" of a day, the text disappears behind the keyboard rather than scrolling down to keep pace with text entry ? Looks like an 7 glitch to me ?
Doesn't do that for me. Try resetting the phone
