Benefit from buying iPhone 4 at Best Buy

FYI. I thought this was worth sharing...
I purchased two iPhone 4 handsets from Best Buy--one for me, one for management (wife).
When buying the handsets, I signed up for the Rewards Zone program they offer. It works by every dollar you spend earns you a point--at some level of points, you receive a gift certificate.
Apparently, BB gives you Rewards Zone credit for the FULL unsubsidized cost of the phone (plus tax), and not just what I paid per phone ($700 vs. $299 subsidized cost for each 32GB iPhone 4)
Anyway, to make a long story short, I received a $25 gift certificate in my e-mail from BB for buying the phones at Best Buy.
Not trying to dissuade anyone from buying their phones at the Apple Store or anywhere else, just thought it was worth sharing since it was a free $25 rewards gift certificate just for buying our phones there.

You can buy a iPhone 4 at any Authorized Retailer (Best Buy, ATT, RS, WM, Apple, etc). However you can not buy a unlocked iphone in the US. All iPhones sold in the US are carrier locked to AT&T and neither Apple or AT&T will unlock the device. If you buy a locked iphone and want it unlocked you will have to do it on your own. Just some thigns to remember 1. It technically voids your warranty. So if you cant restore it to factory firmware before you send it to Apple or take it to them and they find out its Jailbroken warranty is over. and number 2. There is currently no unlock for iphones shipping with 4.1 and the new baseband. So you are taking a chance to that the device will not have 4.1 on it already. You also need to be careful about eBay. Not every device listed is actually a Apple unlocked device. Its merely a Jailbroken one with the unlock applied. Just a warning to you.

Return policy may be different from Apple's vs Best Buy. Regardless of crowds, only buy from Apple. Dealing with Best Buy in the future, if there's a problem it may not be worth what you believe to be a $40 savings.

  • What options do I have if Best Buy doesn't honor what they sold you . . .

This is my first time ever to post, but I am at wits end and hoping for help from the community. I have been trying to resolve this issue for 6 months. Here's my situation.
My daugher is on her grandparents Verizon plan. Let's name her line B. I am autherized to purchase on the account. My daugher's phone was lost and she needed another one for security reasons. I called around to the Best Buys that we'd be near while travling and found one close by with the phone she wanted. The representative was excellent. Very very helpful and went the extra mile. He told me all about the edge program and how we were only going to pay an extra $10 a month for 2 years because we'd receive a $25 monthly credit. Then after 2 years we could surender the phone just pay taxes and upgrade the phone. The Best Buy representive called for apporval to make sure he could use a upgrade from line A for my daughter line B and still receive the edge. So he double checked to make sure everything would be seemless. This occured Oct 24, 2014. After the first bill it was all but seemless!!
So in November I went to Best Buy, they sent me to Verizon, I went to Verizon, they sent me to Best Buy, Best Buy sent me to another Verizon and spoke to a supervisor. I was shown the error in Best Buys transaction. Best Buy upgraded line A to the edge but since there was no smartphone attached to line A, we did not recieve the $25 credit. Verizon sent me back to Best Buy and said Best Buy need to honor what they sold me. I went back to Best Buy close to my home. That Best Buy told me only the Best Buy I bought it from could help me. I had to call them because they are 5 hours and 6 minutes from my home. It took a few more calls before I spoke the mobile manager and he was going to investigate. Then it was the holidays and he didn't get back to me. I completely understood,. I called he and he said he hadn't forgotten me. Finally in December he told me he met with Ashley the Verison's Best Buy representive. According to him a Best Buy mobile supervision they would going to credit the account $50 for Novemeber and December. After that point we'd see the $25 edge credit. He said he'd forward me the email. I never recieved the email. I drove the 5 hours and 6 minutes to the store and he was off that day, but left a message for him to call me and please forward the email. No phone call, no forward email. So I called again, he was on vacation and wouldn't be in until after his vacation mid January. I was hopeful, but no credit on the bill in Jan 2105. I spoke to him again after his vacation and he promised to forward the email from Verison. Now it is Feb, still nothing, no email, no credit, no follow-up. I drive back there and had to speak the a store Manger, because the mobile manager has now been promoted to another area and he is off that day. The manager assures me the promoted moblie manager will contact me. But he doesn't. I call the store manger and he has the promoted mobile manager call finally me. The promoted mobile manager asks me for a copy of the bill. Fine, I get it to him. I'll have to fax it or mail it, but I would get it to him. Then the bill comes in with a $50 credit!!! Yay, I think they have it resolved, nope. April bill comes in no $25 edge credit.
I call the new mobile manager, poor soul, he doesn't know the situation. He took my information and meet with Ashley from Verizon. He calls me back, wow, he calls me back!!! I am so thankful. Then he starts talking about Best Buy in the third person! He doesn't know what "they" told me. When I bought the phone "they" put it on line A, then "they" transferred it to line B.  He's referring to his Best Buy representative in the third person. Talking about me buying the phone's contract for $600 plus dollars. I started to see red. So I ended oiur conversation to collect myself and called him back. Poor buy! Next conversation he explains that I need to put a smart phone on line A. I can buy a new one, use an old one, whatever, but line A needs a verison smart phone on it. He doesn't know why the promoted mobile manager didn't tell me this before. But since he didn't I'm out at least $150 that no one is willing to refund me. If I give line A the iPhone from line B, I won't have a phone for line B, unless I have one or buy a new one. He was kind enough to agree this was no fault of my own, but that of the Best Buy representive sold me the first time and the promoted mobile manager for not communicating the situation. So this is Best Buy's solution - grandpa who never wants more than his ancient flip phone has to get my daughers iPhone, my daugher get no phone or I have to buy one, and I'm out at least $150 (or more depending on how long this takes to resolve). I didn't even ask but I am sure the iPhone at some point must be surendered. The store manager is aware of the situation and he will call me tomorrow, or will he????
So, do I just accept that they made a mistake, they can't honor their deal because it is a contract with Verison and I have to pay for it? I feel helpless and frustrated. We're under contract for another 2 years.

    Hello nvtrev,
It can be difficult to keep track of all of your belongings while traveling, and it is discouraging to hear your daughter may have lost her phone during travel. While things certainly seemed to have gone awry, I’m glad to hear that your initial experience purchasing a new phone for your daughter was pleasant.
When our customers come to us for phone purchases, they should trust that we are able to communicate with their carrier’s systems to process a phone purchase seamlessly. It certainly seems that we may have missed something during your upgrade, causing you to miss out on the billing credit and that you’ve put forth a valiant effort to try to find a resolution to this issue.
As I am sadly not equipped to personally take a closer look into this issue, could you please share with me the store location and any first names of managers you have been working with regarding these concerns? With the store location and manager names, I would be delighted to reach out to the store’s leadership to better research this experience to see what options we may have for you.
I look forward to your correspondence!

  • Best Buy Price Matching Fiasco

I wanted to let you know of the horrendous customer service I have just recently experienced trying to get a video game price matched. It should be a rather simple thing to take care of, and yet Best Buy wasted about two hours of my time today.
Today I drove to your West LA Best Buy location to pick up a copy of NBA 2K15 for Xbox One. Since Walmart is running a sale on this exact item for $29.96, I brought the printout to the store. I show it to the salesperson, they go back and talk to other people, then she comes back and says "I'm sorry, this is out of stock at Walmart so we cannot price match it." I told her I just looked recently and it was in stock, and I asked her if she checked both online and in-store options and she said "yes, it's out of stock both in-store and online." As my phone did not have good reception in the store, I could not verify for myself.
As I was back in the car driving, when I had better service so I pulled up the Walmart site on my phone and navigated to the listing. While their site said you cannot order through Walmart's mobile site, you can through the normal Walmart.com site. As soon as I brought up the regular non-mobile page, there the game was, in stock. The Best Buy representative must have either straight up lied to me, or checked on a phone and didn't really investigate it. In any case she did lie to me regardless, since I asked her if she checked if it was in-stock in-store and she said yes. This is completely unacceptable, and it was a waste of my time, gas, and patience. On a side note, this is not the first issue I have had recently with this Best Buy location.
My issues didn’t stop there. I then had to resort to calling the Best Buy hotline to try and price match. The representative was very nice, checked the item on Walmart’s website, saw it was in stock, and was trying to get the price match to go through, but was having issues. I was on the phone for almost 30 minutes, still waiting for her to put it through, and then it got disconnected. When I called back and got a representative, she too was very nice, and apologized for me getting dropped, saying that other customers have had issues today as well with getting dropped. She said she saw that the last rep was trying to price match the game. She goes and looks up the game on Walmart’s site, and she says she can’t price match because the item is not in stock. I tell her it was when I spoke to the last rep, it was in stock, and I was just calling back to complete it. I’m already 15 minutes into this new call now. I ask to speak to a supervisor. I wait, and wait. About 15 minutes later, she gets a hold of a supervisor who she is speaking with over chat, and the supervisor gives her permission to put the price match through. This ends up taking quite a while longer, supposedly due to new systems being implemented. All in all, that second call ended up taking just under 50 minutes. So on the phone today, Best Buy wasted an hour and 20 minutes of my time. Then you add another 30 minutes or so for the drive to and from the West LA Best Buy store.
This whole situation today is completely unacceptable, and really isn’t a good reflection of the customer service Best Buy gives. This is even more troubling considering I am a loyal Elite member. Best Buy makes it seem like they value their customers, especially their Elite and Elite Plus members, but with the recent customer service issues I have experienced, it seems that isn’t the case.
I would very much like to know what will be done so that the West LA store has representatives who know what they are doing, and also what Best Buy will do for me for the frustration they have caused and the time they have wasted.
Thank you very much for your time and understanding in the matter.

    Hello FlyBri,
Best Buy's Price Match Guarantee is a great way to ensure that you get the best possible price on exciting products and still have the benefits of purchasing through us. I was delighted to read that you were successful at taking advantage of it, though I regret that you had to invest such persistence in achieving your goal.
In truth, our stores will price match their local brick-and-mortar competitors on the condition that our requirements are met (i.e., the competitor must be in stock). Our store representative rightly informed you that we could not match our competitor's price if they had verified that their local store was out of stock. That being said, and as I previously mentioned, I was happy to read that your perseverance was rewarded via BestBuy.com.
I'm very grateful that you wrote to us about your experience and for your feedback.
    Sincerely,
    Hi John,
I appreciate the response, but  I believe you unfortunately misunderstood the situation and what had happened.  The Best Buy reps at the store DID NOT correctly verify that the item was out of stock.
A local Walmart store did have it in stock, as did ordering it through Wallmart.com.  The representatives checked on a cell phone, which goes to Walmart's "mobile.walmart.com" website.  The item was not available for sale through that specific mobile version of the site, but it does say that it is available on their main Walmart.com site.  In addition, when on the main site, a check of the stock of a local Walmart store showed that there were copies available.  So obviously the Best Buy representatives did not rightly inform me because they did not check the way they should have.
I also believe you are mistaken regarding the Best Buy Price Match Guarantee.  Even if a local Walmart store was out of stock, if the Walmart.com website does have stock of the same item I am trying to purchase from Best Buy, Best Buy must price match it.  To quote a portion of Best Buy's Price Match Guarantee language from the BestBuy.com website, "At the time of sale, we price match all local retail competitors (including their online prices).  It says nothing about the stock having to specifically be in the local stores only.  It's a moot point though, as at the time there was stock in a local store.
So the Best Buy reps at the West LA store did not do their job properly as you mistakenly thought they did.  And because of this, I had to waste valuable time and energy to get a simple pricematch done.  The problem is that this is not the only incident I have had to deal with in the last few months (and the second I have had to deal with in that specific location), and is especially disconcerting for being an Elite member as well. I am hoping the employees at that location can be better trained, in addition to taking care of the software issues plaguing the phone reps, so thtat they can put through a simple price match quickly, without it taking an hour and a half.

  • Is Best Buy credit card linked to Citibank?

This is posted in response to one moderators comment about Best Buy credit card.
His claim was that the Best Buy credit card was not really owned by Best Buy.  As a result, there was nothing any Best Buy employee could do to help out with complaints about their Best Buy credit card.
The claim that Best Buy could not be responsible for the problems occurring with Citibank credit cards.  Best Buy was just the "name" on the front of the card.  The analogy called to mind is that if you are using the Best Buy Credit Card, it is just an advertising ploy.  Best Buy cards are labeled with the Best Buy name and trademarked logo as an advertising premise.  They are not linked in any way with Citicard and how Best Buy customers are treated.
The premise is not true.  If Best Buy is not affiliated with Citibank or their cards; whey do we get "reward points" to only Best Buy if they have no involvement with Citibank?  Other cards I have allow "reward points" to be used in multiple forums.
The Best Buy card has culpability in the mess with Citibank and cards issued under the Best Buy name.  Best Buy retailer has culpability in this matter.  I have no idea what the legal analysis of this leads to: I am not an attorney.
My posts have scared the "moderators" to the point that when I pass on the help attained by other members, they have  pulled the posts; "locked the posts to read only" in mid-post.  It's creepy.  It also helps determine culpability and who is liable for the Citicard mess with Best Buy.
If Best Buy moderators pull posts that do not violate rules; if they restrict the use of a post to "read only while I'm typing" they are watching on a computer terminal as I write/type.  When they restrict information that might show a path of resolution for those of us stuck in a loop; they are showing that they know that Best Buy is responsible in some way for what is happening with Citibank and the Best Buy issued card.
What can we do as consumers at Best Buy?  Write the Board of Directors; copy the letters to your local store.  And of course, take your business somewhere else.  {removed per forum guidelines}  This is a speculative comment. What if there is a relationship between Best Buy and Citibank that allows Best Buy to "capture" a portion of the fees that we have been charged by the "malfunctioning" computers?  I have no idea and there is no way in the world that I would, at this point in time, talk with an attorney.
Sad that Best Buy moderators won't even apologize to the consumers who post on their website that there are major problems with purchasing an item at Best Buy on the Best Buy/Citicard.  They could post an appropriate link or phone number that "might" help consumers with the problems with purchases.  Sad that there is not acknowledgement of problems since Citibank took over the "Not Best Buy credit card".
Best Buy could have a conversation about what is going on and let people know that they want our business and they will do their best by establishing a better conduit of communication and information when there are problems with "not Best Buy credit card."
I wonder if they will pull this post?  It is only fear that moves them.  That is the key ingredient that makes something in a corporation sweat.
We all like shopping at Best Buy.  Those reward points are great!  Some of the stores provide excellent service.
Now that I understand that Best Buy credit cards have no relationship to Best Buy and it is just advertising for Citibank by putting all their store information on the front of the card; I think it's on the back too; rememember, it is not the fault of Best Buy.  It is Citicards fault.  Call Citicard....good luck.
Best Buy does not care about their customers who use the "Not Best Buy Card".  There has to be a reason.  Why would they want customers to shop somewhere else?  Is the strategy now, "Best Buy is too good for consumers?" "Best Buy prefers that you pay cash for all purchases?" "Best Buy, we're so rich, we don't have to care about our customers! They keep coming in the front door!"  This could be a public relations nightmare for Best Buy.  That is why they don't want  consumers to talk about how their "real-life problems" originated at a Best Buy store.
I despise how I have been treated by Citibank.  I know I post on a forum that is "owned and promoted" by Best Buy.  In the corporate world, they set the rules.  Most of us understand that corporate wins over consumer at all times in this business environment.  I'm sure they will be very happy that this is my last post regarding this matter.
Learn what federal regulations are in place to help you.  Stop using the "Not Best Buy card".  It is our choice to use them. if you have to shop at Best Buy, use cash or another credit card that is not affialated with "Not Best Buy card".
Sorry about the spelling errors.  This laptop was bought at Best Buy.  The hard drive was replaced by the "Geek Squad".  It was repaired, but some functions  no longer work.
Yeeup! I went and bought another computer at Best Buy!  It was only a couple of thousands of dollars.  I went with a tower! I already have a notebook. Getting away from a laptop was expensive!
I'll  have to ponder as to whether I will ever shop at Best Buy again.  It is due to the reactions of the moderators; the finger pointing from Citibank and Best Buy and most of all; a lot of my money has been emptied out of my bank account since Citi took over my "Not Best Buy card".
I am not an attorney.  I did graduate from college and there is a wonderful member on this forum who has helped me out with the system.
Cheers! I hope this post isnt' pullled since it is designed to mitigate frustration among members of the "Not Best Buy card"

If you have a customer service issue regarding Citibank or any other aspect of your interactions with Best Buy we would urge you to create a post regarding that interaction and we would be glad to see if we can help you.  Otherwise, we encourage you to follow the Community Guidelines as posted and see what you can provide other users on our forums to assist them in resolving their concerns.

I looked further, and then updated my .NET framework to see if that helped.  It didn't.
Is there a way to get the serial code for Guild Wars 2 that I bought, and I can just download the client from the guild wars 2 website?  Or maybe a patch for this?  Or someone who at least knows any way to fix it?
    Thanks.

    Hi hch3rd,
I'm sorry for the delayed response.  You are likely not finding the PC App folder with a search because the folders are hidden by default.  To "Show Hidden Files"...
    Windows 7 or Vista:
Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.
    Click the View tab.
Under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and then click OK.
    Windows XP:
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options.
On the View tab, under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
Once you have that done, you should be able to find the PC App data files at that same location you were looking and delete them.
Let me know if that helps.

  • Droid Pro "stop sale" at Best Buy

All, apparently Best Buy received a "stop sale" notification from Verizon on the "Droid Pro" today.  This seems to point to a technical issue/problem with the phone, but I was wondering if anyone from Verizon can comment on why the Verizon system will not allow retailers to sell this phone right now?
    Thanks,
    Brian

looks like best buy angered the giant by offering them so cheap.  wouldn't be surprising.

DROID 2 Global and DROID Pro Get Axed at Best Buy
On 12.16.10, In News, by Kellex
We got word yesterday from a reader that Best Buy was no longer selling the Droid Pro (our review) and Droid 2 Global and thought, “Wow, that’s odd…what’s the story BB?”  Well according to reports this morning, they may have been “recalled” by Verizon and not because of some defect.  No, we’re hearing that Verizon was upset at the ridiculously low pricing that BB was offering both devices at which may have broken some sort of contract between the two.  Sounds like no one was buying phones from Big Red and they pulled inventory from BB.  Drama.
and on a side note, this site doesn't play nice with the firefox beta 4.  It just duplicates the content within a post

  • Lied too by a Best Buy Mobile Associate

Went in too BestBuy to add a cellphone line to my sprint contract. I researched cellphones prices before i went out to buy. Found Best Buy had a LGG3 for $1 a new or add a line 2yr contract and includes a $200 gift card from Best Buy. Off to the store to buy it. At the store, the cellphone associate informs me. NO! You only get the $200 gift card if you lease or buy the phone with monthly payments. I ask again, on your website it shows the phone with $200 gift card and the $1 price with 2 yr agreement. She says, its still no. Thats not how it works, i know our promos. I ask her to still politely too just conform with her mgr. She says, mgr is at lunch n asks next cubicle associate about the promo. Oh no, only with monthly payments. Then the 2nd associate reiterates, thats how all the phones are going now. Leases or monthly installments. So i give up, she gets the paperwork. On the creditcard machine thingy. Sign here, here, and there. Thats it your done. I get the phone n call my wife. Well atleast the phone works, im tired of the run around. Get home n start playing with new phone. Cant get data, thinking bad connection. Nope, good on every other phone. Try wifi, nope nothing no network only errors. Get on phone n call sprint. 30 mins later, they cant help. Need to take to a sprint repair center for programming. Forget it, im tired of this phone. Wait 2 days, let me call sprint again n see if another tech can help. 30 mins later, still nothing. Told by sprint, take phone back n get new one. 3 days later, i get on BestBuy to double check that $1 promo on LGG3. Still there, just then chat window pops up. So i start talking BB chat. She asks her manager n informs me. Yes, you can buy that LGG3 w 2 yr agreemsnt n get the $200 giftcard. So still not believding it. I get another phone of mine n take a pic of the screen where the BB chat tells me yes i can n the options. So igo back to BestBuy (30 miles) with screen shots of the website n the chat in hand. I go over n talk with BestBuy mobile mgr and he will assist me. Told him, about the $1 on the website which shows i can. He says No, says its not a promo they are running. I tell him its right n even their own chat says i can. I ask him to call the sprint rep, which he does. The sprint rep says No. Now im fricken mad. Hour goes by, tell him i want some answers. Can you call the store mgr over. He talks to him n tells him about the screenshots with chat n their own website. He says, they can push it through but its still not a promo they are running. By this time, find im sick of this yet a other run around. He then informs me, they are out of stock in Black n i will have to wait 3-4 days for it. Forget it just give me the next color you have. So i get the phone, it works and i get the $1 price. Pay the tax on the full retail of the phone. Dont get me started on that either. But only after 2 trips to a BestBuy 30 miles away. Talking n being on hold with sprint reps for over 2 hours, then getting a phone which i didnt like the color til this day. Still never got a YES you were correct on the pricing. I got a smirk n a see ya next time from the BB mobile mgr. I think im done with BestBuy over this one. Its not worth the time or agravation to buy or attempt to but one of their products. Still waitimg on BB corporate customer service to get back to me. Not holding my breath tho!

    Hello knb2000,
Receiving the LG G3 for only $1 and receiving a $200 gift card would be a pretty amazing deal and hard to pass up! I was able to locate the offer you seem to be speaking of, and it appears that this offer varies based on the mobile carrier, which may have contributed to the level of confusion you seemed to encounter. Nonetheless, we should ensure we are fully aware and knowledgeable about such offers, and I’m sorry that you had such a hassle.
Given the information shared on the offer page here, with Sprint you should be able to receive a $200 Best Buy gift card when choosing a 2-year agreement or monthly installment plan. I apologize if you were provided any misinformation during your interactions at the store and if you have currently been left with a phone in a color you don’t prefer. Please know that I will be reaching out to the store to ensure they are fully aware of the promotion and your dismal experience with attempting to participate.
Ultimately, I’m glad you were able to finally receive the 2-year agreement and the $200 gift card under this offer. With that said, I was able to locate your purchase history using the information you used to register with the forum. It appears your last exchange of the phone was performed on 5/26/15, so you would have 14 days to exchange your phone for a preferred color under our Return & Exchange Promise. If you should have any questions, please let us know!
    Respectfully,

i purchased a iphone 4 in san francisco from a best buy for 649.99 usd without contract. the phone is however locked and i want it to be unlocked by apple officially. please help

Apple does not unlock iPhones, only the carrier that it is locked to can do that. Contact them. If you were sold a phone that was supposed to be unlocked when you purchased it (which is what it sounds like) you should contact Best Buy.

Vendors, I noticed the price of the IPAD 2 was identical at Walmart,Best Buy, Frys, and the Apple store the sales person at The Apple Store told me the main benefit to buying the IPAD 2 from the Apple Store is that they do all the initial set up of the device is this not the case for all the vendors of the IPAD2? Also as I was inside the local Apple Store they were conducting some sort of tutorial on the use of the IPAD 2( at least 40 persons in attendance) is this free?

There are no vendors on this site - just other users helping each other solve issues ..... but to answer your questions.....
Those instructional workshops are free to attend. This is copied from the information website at one of the Apple Stores in Pittsburgh, PA
Take a workshop. On the house.
Learn something new by taking a free workshop at an Apple Retail Store. Our workshops are taught by people passionate and knowledgeable about Apple products and eager to share their knowledge with you. Sign up in advance or drop in. You’ll have a great time, learn new skills, and pick up loads of tips.
If the price is the same everywhere that you have looked - I would suggest purchasing wherever you feel most comfortable. I think you might be answering your own question though when you ask if the workshops are free. You are not going to get the type of instruction - if you get any at all - from a reseller like you will get at an Apple Store. The Apple Store will set the device up for you if you want them to do so.
