Best conversion of AVCHD for G4

I"m still using a PoweMac G4 running a Sonnetech Dual 1.67 processor, Final Cut 6.06, Mac OSX 10.5.8 and 2 gigs of RAM. I shoot everything on HDV or AVCHD and batch compress it to DVCPro 50 16:9. However, I have a client that wants me to shoot in AVCHD 1920x1080 and edit it natively, but the budget doesn't include renting or buying a MacPro or Macbook Pro that can edit the footage natively. Can anyone suggest one of the other codecs that I can edit with that will not bog down my g4 cpu? I have MPEG Streamclip since compressor has always given me weird errors. Can a G4 edit Apple Pro Res LT with ease? Looking for some codecs that FCP 6.06 can edit with giving the spinning rainbow every two minutes. Thanks

A G4 will not edit any kind of ProRes.
Try DVC Pro HD as a codec. Make sure you put it on a dedicated media drive.
You will need Clipwrap to transcode the files and it will probably take forever. Good luck!

Best Conversion of AVCHD to AVI

I recently purchased the SONY NEX-VG30H camcorder that uses AVCHD as the compression format. From what I have been reading, the image quality is very good. There are many benefits including both video and audio with the same camera, interchangable lens, and small media size. Unfortunately, the high AVCHD compression is not recommended for editing for several reasons as follows:
- editing lossy over lossy leads to an ever degrading result.
- high CPU processing for editing is required that takes longer than necessary so converting to a less lossy format e.g. AVI is a good idea.
- not directly supported by Premier Pro.
I have years of experience with Premier Pro and presently at CS5. With the forum help I have a hex core CPU that I do not wish to compromise by slowing it down so a conversion to AVI appears to be the best choice. I find conversion software for apple computers recommended on the Internet.
What software do I need to convert to AVI to use with an i7 3930K with SSD C and two RAID 2TB support drives?

Thanks Ann. I get my information from the Internet, reading posts on the forum and my communications experience with Telus in Canada.
Perhaps my knowledge of how Premier Pro CS5 operates is lacking or I am not up to date with the latest information. Up to now, I have been capturing with firewire and editing with DV video. Since I am provided with a usb cable to download video from the NEX-VG30 camera I understand I download the video directly to my hard drive. I presume I import to Premier Pro from what I understand you are telling me. I have not edited with AVCHD in Premier Pro so it is good news that it is possible.
Any lossy or editing speed issues I try to avoid. From what makes sense to me and reading Harm Millaard's comments in posts, the CPU has more work to do that must slow it down. The reason I went to a 6 core CPU was to speed up editing after years of waiting for results that I found annoying and demotivating. My 6 core PC may be fast enough to do the work but I do not wish to slow it down using AVCHD if AVI is much faster.
Digital technology using bits rather than analog signal shapes apart from minor conversion issues keeps information pure if bits are not lost, but compression over compression after many processes of the original signal does not appear to be a good idea unless the original information is processed by Premier Pro such that the final product is as true as the original.
Can you clarify what I have said if incorrect?

I made a Video with my HD camera and made a nice movie in iMovie HD 6 in 1080i-30. what is the best conversion to view it on my web site. I have tried a few of the settings but none thrill me. all either too small or too square. What are the best settings for wide screen conversion for the web?

I just bought the Cannon HV20 camera on Monday 5/7/07 and shot this Video on Tuesday night 5/8/07. I have never owned a Video camera before and true to the advertisement the canon was just point and shoot and I got pretty decent Video. We passed the camera around to everyone in the band so that everyone could shoot a little and everyone could be in the video. next time I think i'll bring a friend to shoot so we can just play.
I had no problem at all importing the video from the HV20 into iMovie as some here have been experiencing. I thought iMovie was very easy to use and since I am used to working in Logic Pro I know to hit save every couple of edits, just in case of a crash, which it did a couple of times

Elements 7 - Best Preset to use for the Panasonic SDR-H40 Camcorder

Hi,
Can anyone tell me what would be the best preset to use for video created on the Panasonic SDR-H40? I'm just learning about the software, opened a project, using whatever settings were already there, and the video's audio sometimes stops mid-stream, so it's basically a silent movie.
I read that I might need to use a specific preset or create one of my own, but don't know how to actually go about it.
The choices under NTSC presets are AVCHD, DV or HDV. I've looked in the Camcorders manual and can't find how (or even if) that equates to the recording modes of XP (high picture quality), SP (normal) or LP (recording time prioritized) -
The videos I recorded were recorded in XP - Taking a guess at it, I don't think there's a relationship between these terms and the recording modes of the Camcorder and suspect that this camera only does DV. But if that's true I don't know if there are further adjustments I need to make (by creating a preset).
I was hoping that someone with the same camera or just solid general knowledge could shed some light on this.

The camcorder is a standard definintion camorder recording to a hard drive so you need to use the.... NTSC, "Hard disc, Flash Memory Camcorder", Standard 28KHz or Widescreen 48KHz dependant on whether you shot in widescreen.

Best RAW Image Processing for Canon Digital Rebel XT - PS Elements 6??

I'm new to RAW image processing and image editing. I just bought a Canon digital Rebel XT. It comes with Canon Digital Professional 2.1 software. I also have Aperture upgraded to 1.5.6, which I have tried on JPEGs from an earlier digital camera that only gave me JPEG files. Since Aperture doesn't give me as much editing diversity, I purchased the newly released Photoshop Elements 6 (and I don't have any experience with Photoshop). Thus, I now have 3 different RAW image processors. Does anyone have some experience with these 3 to suggest which one is best? The learning curve looks pretty steep, and it would be helpful to know which of these to focus on, at least initially.

Now that you have the Canon DPP installed i would update it to version 3.2 which is at Canons site.
Now, DPP has the best conversion quality for Canon RAW files. I used it a lot and although limited in what adjustments you have, it offers the essential adjustments and I liked it a lot.
Aperture also does a great job with Canon RAW files, but version 2.1 is even better
Photoshop Elements 6 I have not used but I do use Photoshop CS3
Personally for RAW I prefer Canon DPP over Adobe Camera Raw
And I prefer Aperture over Adobe Camera RAW too.
Now that Aperture has improved it's RAW conversion immensely and it offers tethered shooting with the XT, I am using Aperture exclusively to process RAW files.
An application like Elements or Photoshop CS3 are great if you want to do more advanced layered work and layer blending effects, however, for sepia , black/white, general image color & saturation or desaturated effects and good RAW conversion? I am all about using Aperture.
Now although I use it on a MBP, I will only do edit and color judging when attached to a cinema display or any good LCD with a DVI connection to the laptop.
But in conclusion, for RAW adjustments may as well focus on Aperture and use Elements for the few edits that Aperture does not allow.

Iam using the BAPI "BAPI_GOODSMVT_CREATE_OIL" for posting goods movement. I filled the additional quantities and unit of measures also in the BAPI table, But when tried to execute, Iam getting the error, "Quantity conversion check failed for one item; all qty lines deleted"

yes, that app engine didnt inserted any rows. So now when i tried to drill down i found that there was no data in the "new demo" database on table UPG_DATACONV. That is the reason for all this.
When i applied required for upgrade patch in demo it said couple of patch already exists so those update i skipped. Now when i check upd877654 has a step which imports the data in this table. my change assistant told that the update is already available in my demo so i skipped. Now i am not sure what to do.
I tried reimporting the data and running the analyzer again. But worried that there can be any issues due to this.

Currently We are using SharePoint 2010 and doing a lot of enhancement and customization in the portal.
we are planning to migrate SharePoint 2013 after 6-9 months.
I want to know what are the best practices and guidelines for development in SharePoint 2010 keeping one thing in mind that customization should be compatible or can easily migrate to SharePoint 2013 so that re-engineering effort would be as minimum
as possible.
We have every possible piece of customization in SharePoint 2010 portal like web part, event receivers, workflows, master page, page layout, custom search etc.

Best practices don't really apply here. They are generally rules of thumb that you can apply without thinking too much and be pretty much right. Development is by it's nature too varied to allow that sort of best practice guidance.
Having said that the main thing you should be concerned with around the choice of development approach in 2013 is the intended future of your client and the application. If they are making a move to the cloud you should be concentrating on the app model
and rapidly phasing out farm solutions. If they are considering it then you can still consider using the more old-school options of farm solutions and sandboxed solutions. If they can't go to the cloud because of data security etc. then you are more or less
free to use what you like.
Also, try to move to client side processing wherever possible. MS are only going to make server side work less pleasant in future.
Beyond that, get to some conferences and start chewing through some of the blogs on the topic.

What are the best settings to use for the newest AirPort Extreme (AC wifi) with my optimum online service provider?

I have the current generation of the AirPort Extreme and a handful of devices that utilize the new 5Ghz A/C frequency. My internet speeds were blazing fast when I had first set it up but lately it has been lagging terribly. I was told that changing my dhcp did help, which it did it seems like it might be back to its normal speeds but I just want to know what are the best settings to configure for the airport so that I can get the most out of my service on all my devices? I'm using a CAT 6 cable which does help, I have a guest wifi setup with a wifi password which I understand will slow it down a little. Can anyone just point me in the right direction or just give me a step by step guide on what settings to configure? Should I really consider turning off the guest network?

I am assuming that you are looking to configure your network to provide the highest level of bandwidth possible for your network clients. If that is the case, the following are a few things to consider:
The Internet modem should support Gigabit Ethernet. That is the Ethernet connection between the modem and your 802.11ac AirPort Extreme should be Gigabit Ethernet.
Use CAT-5e or CAT-6 Ethernet cables between all wired connections.
Only expect 802.11ac performance with 802.11ac clients in the same room as the base station.
Eliminate or significantly reduce any forms of Wi-Fi interference on both the 2.4 & 5 GHz bands.
When streaming, especially HD video on your local network, use wired connections between the host and player devices when possible.
Other than the above suggestions there are no "magic" settings that you can make on your AirPort. Note: The Guest network shares the same bandwidth as the "main" network. Unless you have a network goal to provide this type of network, it is best left disabled.
