Best recommendation: polling frequency for imap/pop

I need some advice about the polling frequency recommendation for Applications that will use imap/pop connexion to servers. What should be the best recommendation about it?

For your best long-term interests, your best recommendation for applications is to use EWS and not these light clients.  And keep in mind that these older versions of Exchange are not going to get support in the near future (in fact Exchange 2003 is
probably out of support already).
That being said, if the application is polling, it's up to them to determine how often in order for their application to be both responsive for end users and not cause extreme server issues.  You can (of course) keep the latter from being an issue with
throttling.

  • Where do I set the polling frequency for Technical monitoring in Solution Manager 7.1 SP10 ??

    Hi All,
I am customizing my technical monitoring templates and would like to know :
    1. Where we can set the polling frequency for each metrics for triggering alerts through Technical monitoring in Solution Manager 7.1 SP10 ??
    2. Is it like each time our threshold is breached, it will send an alert irrespective of polling frequency ??
I know the data collection interval time for each metrics in technical monitoring template but the as per my observation the polling frequency is different.
    Need your guidance.

  • Can I use polling frequency for Database Adapter

I need to use Database Adapter that acts like FileAdapter. Can I set polling frequency for my Database Adapter, so that the adapter can query every 5 secs?

You can use polling feature when you configure your DB adapter Operation Type as "Poll for New or Changed Records in Table"
If you use Adapter configuration wizard it will promot for "Pollling Options" and Polling Frequency is the option which you can configure in seconds, mins or hrs

I have 20 doamins hosted on my messaging server.
    Thanks

Actually am suppose to generate a report of the bandwidth being used by various domain hosted on my messaging server for Imap, POP, HTTP, LDAP and Calendar.
I have total of 21 domains hosted on my messaging server and each domain has atleast 300-400 users.

  • Polling frequency of AQ adapter

Can we set the polling frequency for AQ adapter during Enqueue operation in 10g?
    Regards
    Ayush

We are facing a similar issue but a slightly different scenario. Following is the setup:
    - Oracle SOA Suite 11.1.1.3.
    - BPEL process (within a Composite App) using AQ Adapter reading messages from a AQ queue (corresponding to a subscription to a Business Event) in Oracle EBS.
    - Huge number of messages backed up in the queue: delay of between 10 secs to 1 min between consecutive dequeue logs noticed in the BPEL process.
The 'DequeueTimeOut' parameter is explained as "It is the interval after which the dequeue() API will time out if no message is received on the inbound queue.".
But what if there a lot of messages in the queue waiting to be processed? How can we increase the polling frequency so that messages are drained immediately, or is this the default behavior?
    Any response is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    - Hari Nadathur

  • Update dynamically Polling Frequency

    Hi
Can any one help me how to update dynamically the polling frequency for the adapters(database, file) without redeploying the code again.
    Thanks in Advance

No issues with my adapter the changes are reflecting only when i restart the server.
we are on SOA 10.1.3.3 with MLR#7.
My question is can we change the polling frequency value dynamically without restart of the server and without redeploying the process in to the server.
But after setting the activationAgent property also we need to restart the server to apply the changes.
Is there any alternative to update the polling frequency dynamically without restart the server and redeploy the code
    Thanks

  • Best Email Server Linux for PUSH IMAP on BB10

    Hi,
I have mdaemon 10 in my company but this version not support PUSH Email for IMAP, I want change this but I want to know which is the best email server (not microsoft) in linux for this?
You can help me? Any can tell me some options?
    Best Regards,

I successfuly use vsftpd on a production server (& AL mirror) at ftp.kegep.tuc.gr so I can recommend it. You just need to change the line "disable = yes" to "disable = on" in /etc/xinetd.d/vsftpd and start xinetd. Check also 'man vsftpd.conf' for configuration options.
Proftpd is easier to setup & I was using it on my debian woody server for a long time, but vsftpd is more secure IMHO (proftpd had 2 advisories lately, plus redhat.com & openbsd.org use vsftpd ) & more advanced.
I can send you some conf files if you want, send me your e-mail via pm for that.

  • Creating custom tiles for IE11 websites: poll frequency should be increased

not sure why the frequency is set to minimum 30minutes currently, but if it can be set to at-least 5 minutes (ideally 1 minute) that would be great.
i have several cases, where i can probably monitor N number of things just by adding tiles for 'short status' messages, rather than logging to their servers. 30minutes is too long a time to know latest status.

    Hi Javsha,
See the following link to know how to set poll frequency using frequency property.

  • How does Mail 4 organize folders for IMAP vs POP in sidebar?

Can someone explain how Mail organizes the sidebar for POP vs IMAP and what would happen if I switched totatlly to IMAP?
I'm a bit confused by how Mail is organizing the folders in the sidebar for an IMAP account. Way back in Panther days I had an IMAP mac.com email for a year or two and if I recall correctly I saved it in On My Mac as a folder. Same for a POP account I was getting rid of.
Since then I have had only POP accounts (including a gmail account). I managed to keep the inboxes (at least) in sync by not removing mail from the server so that my ipod, iphone, and other Macs can log into the mail server too. This has worked OK. However, since I send a lot of mail from my iPhone, I'm wondering if it's time to switch to IMAP since I will be giving up several ISP issued email addresses that only use POP.
I signed up for a new gmail account recently and it set up as an IMAP account by default. Now there's a folder for the new IMAP Gmail account at the bottom of the sidebar under On My Mac folders. It doesn't have an inbox or sent folder but does have a "sent items" folder.
Additionally, at the top of the sidebar is "Mailboxes" with Inbox, Sent, Drafts, Trash and under these are a subfolder for each POP account and also one for the new IMAP gmail. It seems weird to have the inbox and sent items so far away from the rest of the folders. I'm also not clear if it's keeping 2 copies on my hard disk one in the top mailboxes under "Sent" and one at the bottom Gmail folder under "sent items".
Finally, I'm wondering would it be prudent to back up all of the existing POP mailboxes or move everything to On My Mac before switching some of the other mail accounts over to IMAP? I will want to keep archives of the ISP emails when I cancel my service with them.
Thanks for any clarification and advice.

    Trash:

These settings in Mail on your Mac or other device is what you want that device to do with these folders. If you want to be able to start a message on an iPhone and finish it on your Mac, then check the setting on the iPhone to store the draft message on the server. Then, it will be available on all other devices set up with the account to finish it. You would need to set each device to the settings you wish. You really don't want to store anything useless like junk mail or trash on the server and take up server space.
    You Wrote:
As I understand it, the IMAP keeps a local cache and the servers synced. However, Mail sends email and stores it in the Sent folder and the web interface sends email from the Sent Mail folder. Can't I tell Mail to store outbound mail in Sent Mail?
As I understand it, if you send a message from your IMAP account from Mail on your Mac, it will also copy it to the Sent Items folder in IMAP to be seen from any device. If you delete it from the IMAP Sent Items folder, you won't see it on any other device. It will still be in the Sent Mail on the Mac you sent it from. That is a local folder on that particular device.
The advantage of the IMAP account is that you can control email from multiple devices either locally on them if it is set up with that account or from any browser without having to physically sync all of them together. Like you said, you have to leave the messages on the server to view them on other devices and it also takes up storage on each device.
If you want to store them locally to be saved on one computer, then move or copy them from the IMAP folder to a local folder on that computer.
As Barney suggested, enable the advanced IMAP controls in the Labs section on the gmail website settings. That will give you much more control on what you see in Mail on your Mac.
For example, after enabling this feature, I went  to the Labels section in settings on the website and unchecked all boxes to show in IMAP. the only one left is Inbox which you can't disable. When I go to Mac Mail, I don't see any gmail folders except an Inbox subfolder for gmail, a gmail subfolder for sent, and a gmail subfolder for trash.
I have also checked the box in the Mac account settings on the Trash to move deleted messages to the trash, but not store them on the server. That way, a copy goes to the trash on my Mac and it puts the subfolder in the Mail Trash.
I have also set Mail Preferences in gmail under the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab to Auto Expunge off and immediately delete messages forever. I did this to keep the gmail site clean and to give all control to my Mac since I never pull it up at the gmail website except when away on vacation.

  • I recently upgraded by iMac iOS to Yosemite, and I find that my best buy provided Trend Micro stopped working. Question, what security software is recommended, if any for an iMac. Thanks

I recently upgraded by iMac iOS to Yosemite, and I find that my best buy provided Trend Micro stopped working. Question, what security software is recommended, if any for an iMac. Thanks

Uninstall Trend Micro software. It is not needed and could prevent your computer from operating properly. If there is no uninstaller for the software, then see the following:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper
        2. AppDelete
        3. Automaton
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash
        8. Amnesia

I applied only on CAS servers .

    Hi,
We don’t need to run this script on all the server. Just once is enough. For the problematic users, you can use Set-CASMailbox –id user |FL to check if the restrictions are applied
    successfully:

  • Wildcard Certificate use in Sun Java System Messaging Server (IMAPs/POPs)

I'm trying to use a wildcard certificate acquired from GlobalSign and am having problems getting
it (properly) into the cert database.
I tried using certutil, and that didn't seem to work at all, it would list without user cert status:
    rmorneau+root@mmp1:/var/opt/SUNWmsgsr/config# /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/certutil -L -d .
    GlobalSign-Ext-CA CT,c,
    *.xxxxxxxxxxx.edu ,,
I had some success using msgcert and pk12util, but after importing it in, then seeing that it did
have user cert status, after a quick restart of Messaging (IMAP/POP), SSL quit for IMAP and kicked all
my IMAPs users out temporarily (until I put the original cert8.db and key3.db back).
    -------- ImapProxy_20101115.log----

    2. Does the certificate nickname in NSS match the configured certificate nickname in the product?I'm not sure, but I'll try that the next time I try this... will probably be late at night were I won't be interrupting IMAPs and POPs
Makes sense. Prior to release 7 update 4, the servers have to be shut down before modifying certificate databases. As of 7 update 4 you can do a one-time migration to the cert9.db/key4.db format that >should allow certificates to be updated without taking the servers offline.
This was in the log just before the other log entry that I showed before.
    20101115 135440 ImapProxyAService.cfg ASockSSL_Init: couldn't find cert imap.xxxxxxxxx.edu (-8174)
This is the key line from the log. The server is looking for a certificate with the NSS certificate nickname of 'imap.xxxxxxxxx.edu' and is not finding that certificate so issue 2 is likely the problem.Yes, this was it. Oversite on my part, forgot they had to match and could not be a form of just domainname.edu or *domainname.edu.
You either need to modify the default:SSLCertNicknames setting to match the nickname of the new certificate, or install the new certificate using the existing certificate nickname of 'imap.xxxxxxxxx.edu'I modified the default:SSLCertNicknames setting.
Thank you CNewman very much for all your help.
And, for those trolling for an answer with more detail via an Internet search (that is, if Oracle doesn't screw up these forums for anon searches)::::
With the private key in hand (not password protected), I used 'openssl' to get it into a pkcs12 type file:
(It is best to do this as root and not as sudo root as you might run into problems if your host
does not have root power to write to your home dir on the/a NFS share.... you will get "unable to write 'random state'".)
    root@mmp1:/var/opt/SUNWmsgsr/config/GlobalSign-certs-new# /usr/sfw/bin/openssl pkcs12 -export \
    -in ket-wildcard-cert.pem -inkey private.key -out cert.pkcs12 -name xxxxxxxxx.edu
    Enter Export Password:
    Verifying - Enter Export Password:
Where "private.key" is the key file, and "ket-wildcard-cert.pem" is the (pem format) cert from our cert provider,
and cert.pkcs12 is our cert file that will be imported into the database, and xxxxxxxxx.edu is whatever you (nick)name your cert
    in the database
(I think you could use a password protected private key if you have that password.. I don't.)
Next, I used 'msgcert' to import the pkcs12 cert file into the database (I'm sure there is a way
to use certutil or even pk12util to do the same, but I'm on Sun Messenger 6.3 at this time, so that's what I used.
If someone would like to elaborate for those....?):
(It is best, when using 'msgcert', to do it where your mailsrv user has some privs.. I took my pkcs12 cert and moved into /tmp.)
    root@mmp1:/tmp# /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/msgcert import-cert cert.pkcs12
Enter the PKCS#12 file password: (blank)
Enter the certificate database password: (token password in sslpassword.conf)
Make sure your (wildcard) cert nickname matches what you have in
    ImapProxyAService.cfg and PopProxyAService.cfg at the "default:SSLCertNicknames" field.
    Edit if need be.
    root@mmp1:/var/opt/SUNWmsgsr/config# /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/certutil -L -d .
    GlobalSign-Ext-CA CT,c,
    xxxxxxxxx.edu u,u,u
    root@mmp1:/var/opt/SUNWmsgsr/config# grep default:SSLCertNicknames *AService.cfg
    ImapProxyAService.cfg:default:SSLCertNicknames xxxxxxxxx.edu
    PopProxyAService.cfg:default:SSLCertNicknames xxxxxxxxx.edu
Then, of course, restart the msg service(s).
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/stop-msg
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/start-msg

  • What is the best iTunes Equalizer settings for Bose QC15 Headphones?

What is the best iTunes Equalizer settings for the Bose QC15 Headphones? An image of those settings would be great.

I'm a bit of an audio geek, so I can tell you that YES whatever sounds right is what you want, but NO those settings are not very good. The general setting is "OK" but the values are extremely out of range. Take that setting and reduce the distance between the sliders and you're getting there. Look for example at how the other iTunes presets are made, the don't go that far from the horizontal middle, and for good reason.
When you play a recorded song, the song has usually been put through an extensive process of mixing, EQ and mastering before you got it, in order to get the best balance of all frequencies, to ensure the best sound accross a wide range of speakers and headphones, and to ensure the most important details and instruments are audible when played together.
All speakers are different, and that's where the idea of an EQ for the listener is introduced. The idea is to tweak the overall sound from your music player (iTunes) to compensate for the strengths and weaknesses of your speakers. Which to be honest, is a bit much to expect form a typical music consumer.
The iTunes EQ has a set of horizontal lines representing 3dB (volume steps) each. In my experience you should not boost or cut more than 6 db at the most - and that's a lot! I stay at around 0-4dB. The extreme options are there to cut noise from bad recordings or emphasize a detail you can't hear very well.
    So here's basic EQ lesson:
The EQ represents the range frequencies in sound that the human ear can hear. Actually they go beyond that - most people cannot hear the far left and right frequencies. The range of frequencis start at "deep" or "low" frequencies at the left (bass) passing through the Midrange (midtones) in the center, to the (treble) at the right.
Your speaker has a limit to how many frequencies it can play at once before it starts to lose detail - meaning one sound will drown out in order to make room for another. So don't over-EQ your sound or it'll ruin it.
    How to tweak an EQ:
    1) Start by playing a well-produced piece of modern music  - it'll most likely be well mixed and employ a wide range of frequencies. I'm into heavy metal but for this I'd probably go with some average pop music, because metal is so noisy it gets hard to pick out the details.
    2) Set you EQ to FLAT - zero all accross the board. It'll sound pretty flat and boring unless your speakers are very "flavoured" or "colored" already.
Sliding any of the EQ bar up, will increase or boost the volume of the frequency the bar represents. You can't really add frequencies that aren't there already - you're just adding noise in that freqeuncy and that will "fill up" the available frequencies on your speaker, causing that "drowned out" effect I was talking about.
Instead, slide them down from the center, and you're cutting the volume instead. This is better because it'll leave more "room" for the other frequencies. You can always use the Preamp slider at the end if you're worried about loudness (but I wouldn't).
    3) Start by tweaking the 500 and 1K slider. This represents the middle of your ears' range of hearing and the most noticable change. It should most likely go downwards - this will take the "canned" sound out of your music and that'll be apparent quickly. Go ahead and slide that down as far as -6dB.
    4) Now work outwards from the center forming a "v" shape, where the top tips of the V end at the 64 slider and the 8k slider. The very far left and right sliders (32 and 16K) should dip down again to about 0bB. Trust me, these are almost non-important in most music. You can tweak thos last if you feel it's needed.
    5) now it's time to start playing round with the V shape. Go ahead and try sliding the sliders a little up or down between 125-250 and 1K to 4K. You may find that some need to move a lot out of the average "V" shape before the sound is good. This is what my iTunes EQ settings ended up looking like for my Motörheadphones "Motorizer" headphones:
    Hope it helps.

  • IMAP, POP, Server, iPhone, Oh My!

My head is now swimming as I try to understand how the iPhone integrates into the rest of my eMail synchronization scheme.
Searching the forums and support articles has been a frustrating endeavor, so hopefully this thread will serve as a directional beacon to an otherwise highly confusing topic. I'm looking for definitive answers to the following questions.
Starting with the .Mac IMAP settings:
Now that I have an iPhone, my e-mail is synchronized between it, the .Mac server and my MacBook. Which means anything I create on my MacBook is mirrored on my iPhone? So anything I do on the iPhone is also mirrored on my MacBook?
How do the Advanced Mailbox Behaviors settings on the iPhone affect this relationship?
For Drafts Mailbox, Sent Mailbox & Deleted Mailbox, I have the choice to keep them On My iPhone or On The Server. If I keep them on my iPhone, does that mean they never go to the Server and consequently my MacBook?
Then I have the choice of Deleted Messages to Remove: Never or various intervals. If I choose to keep my Deleted Mailbox on the iPhone, does that mean the server never knows I have deleted an e-mail on the iPhone?
So the Deleted Messages applies only to the settings assigned the Deleted Mailbox on the iPhone?
Then if I adjust the Deleted Messages settings to remove messages after one day that are stored on my iPhone, then only the messages downloaded to my iPhone will be deleted, but the original message on the server will not be touched until I delete it on my MacBook?
Moving on to Yahoo IMAP & POP:
If I am using Yahoo IMAP Push server on the iPhone, then all of my Yahoo mailboxes are duplicated on the iPhone. The same questions as .Mac IMAP above apply.
HOWEVER, on the MacBook, the Yahoo account is POP only. So nothing I do on the iPhone will affect my MacBook Mail, correct?
Only the mail kept on the server will be affected by what I do on my iPhone?
So, if I have the iPhone set to store Deleted Mailbox on the Yahoo server and Deleted Messages to delete them every day, then a message deleted from my iPhone could wipe it off the server before my MacBook has a chance to download it?
So the only way to avoid that is to keep Deleted Mailbox on the iPhone?
As for Drafts, Sent and Deleted Mailboxes managed between POP and IMAP Mail clients, I'm guessing that even if the iPhone keeps them on the Yahoo server, that there is no way to download them to MacBook's Mail using POP?
The only way to get messages sent from the iPhone Mail into the MacBook Mail using a POP account is to use the cc: function?
If this information is clearly stated somewhere else, I would greatly appreciate a pointer to it.
A clear step-by-step discussion of the consequences of setting each of the iPhone's Advanced Mail features would be be most welcome.

Here's one clarification with Yahoo Push IMAP & POP
FIRST: IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW All ATT.YAHOO ACCOUNTS WILL WORK WITH YAHOO PUSH SERVER. Both Apple & ATT have been setting their customers up with the standard home use POP accounts. This works with all legacy accounts too: Pacbell.net, SBCGlobal.net, etc.
Whatever you do on the iPhone, no matter what settings you have, will change the Yahoo IMAP server. When you delete an e-mail it goes to the Trash and is removed from the Inbox on the server as well as the iPhone. Therefore, it is not available for download via your desktop mail POP account. In order to ensure an e-mail is available for download on your desktop mail client, DO NOT DELETE an e-mail. Since your desktop POP client settings will change the information on the IMAP server as well, basically all you need to do is nothing. Leave your trash on the server and set it for NEVER delete. Your desktop will do everything else. Obviously if you delete junk mail or something else you don't want to keep on your iPhone, it saves your desktop some trouble. As for where to keep Drafts and Sent mail, THEY DO NOT synchronize with a POP client. Therefore, it is probably best to keep them on your iPhone so you have access to them on an airplane or other location where you can't access the server.
.MAC IMAP is similar except whatever you do on either side of the server will be copied to the other instantaneously. Changing the stored location of SENT, DRAFTS & TRASH will also move them on the server. So there is no way to manage IMAP messages on your phone or computer independently and ensure the messages will still be available for the other. UNLIKE POP, which can be configured to remove an e-mail from the server after a period of time once it's been downloaded, the e-mail will have to be manually managed on the iPhone. Which seems best to be done by the number of messages retrievable into the iPhone. So it just now occurs to me that every e-mail in my Inbox on my Mac is also still on the server. Which would be great I suppose, BUT, UNLIKE OS X Mail and other applications, there is no way on the iPhone to search the messages on the server to find what you are looking for. So they are just taking up space on the server they don't need to be.
Keeping SENT and DRAFTS on the iPhone is also problematic as they do not synchronize with the desktop as backup transactions from the iPhone. The BIGGEST flaw with all of this is there is only one MASTER setting the CC rules. You either CC yourself on every e-mail sent from the iPhone, or none of them. So when you have a POP account and a .Mac account, the CC is great for sending yourself a backup from the POP account. But it's redundant on the .Mac account. And I suppose on the Yahoo IMAP account since you could use the iPhone to move sent messages into the Inbox to be downloaded on the desktop (but that seems like a whole lot of trouble so why not just CC yourself). It would be nice if you could choose whether to CC yourself for each Mailbox, rather than all of them.
So, while far easier than anything else I have ever used, the iPhone is far from simple. It seems that after some frustrating testing I now understand the iPhone's settings and how they work with my MacBook, but the main thing anyone should note is that considerable caution must be used to avoid losing any data between home and mobile as well understand the limitations.
IF I HAVE ANY PART OF THIS WRONG, Please don't hesitate to correct me.
