BEx 3.5 Support

Anyone know how long SAP will support BEx 3.5?

BEx 3.5 is part of the SAPGUi 7.10, so it should be maintained at least til 31.03.2011, according to the PAM in SAP web site.
Just keep in mind that SAP announced stopping the development around BEx solution by the end of 2008, so according the 5-1-2 strategy, maintenance should continue for at least 5 years without any extra cost.

Can someone from SAP provide some details about the BEx end-of-life schedule/timeline.  If there is a document describing this, you could just refer to that document.  I'm not talking about end of enhancements, rather end of support.  Thanks.

    HI Jon,
First consider that Business Explorer (BEx) suite of products is not anymore included in SAPu2019s long-term BI strategy.
I haven't seen any "end-of-maintenance" date stated yet for BEx. Officially SAP advises to migrate to BusinessObjects portfolio (e.g. Crystal Reports or new tool called Pioneer as will be available during 2010) in case of new projects, new developments, etc..
So I think they will still support it also in long term perspective but there will be no new versions of any BEx family products.

  • SUMCT , SUMRT & SUMGT functions of Bex Query not supported in Uinverse,

    Hello Experts,
    I performed the following steps:
    1. Created the Bex Query using the Query Designer with the following functions as
    SUM CT
    SUMGT
    SUMAT
    and saving the Query.
When creating the universe connection and try to connect to the above query, it is not showing the dimensions or any objects. It is just blank. It throws the error " error getting dimensions for cube".
But the BEx query works fine in the Query Designer.
When using other functions, and the Universe and Universe connection works fine. Please let me know if this is a limitation or if I am doing anything wrong.
Let me know if you need any further information on this.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Sap Support of Bex Analyzer 7.0

    Hello everyone,
Does anyone know until when SAP is going to do support for Bex Analyzer 7.0?
Iu2019ve eared that is going to be discontinued.
From now on does it make sense to use this tool in a new project or use Crystal Reports?
What does BEx/Pioneer Queries means? Is the new tool for report thru the web? Can anyone clarify this for me?
    Thanks a lot,

  • Text Variable With Replacement Path : supported in Webi 4.0 or Not.??

    Hello to All WebI Gurus,
    We are on BO 4.0
We are building WebI report on top of Bex query using the BICS connection from IDT.
Our BW query is having some Text Variable with processing type "Replacement Path".
Also its having fiscal year period in filter with user input variable.
the text variables references Fiscal year period and are used in Key figure description,
hence whatever value the input variable will capture the description of Key figure changes accordingly/dynamically.
But when I try to use it in BO it throws me an error msg saying :
Unknown error occured in SL Services
I am Aware that text variable in this fashion were not supported in BO XI3.1
Used of Sap text variable with replacement path in Bo designer
So are Text variable Supported in BO 4.0 in this fashion.
Any response will be highly appreciable.
    Thanks & Regards
    Neeraj

    Hi,
Here's a great SDN article, which includes several slides covering u201CWhich BEx features are supported using BICS connectivityu201D : http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/d056e1bc-2794-2e10-959e-8779c5623cc5
    Pages 8 -> 12 cover these topics.
If your design choices are compliant (supported) then i'd avise opening a support case if this issue persist after checking again on Patch2.11 (release recently)

  • Running MDX Query in BEX

    I've a question regarding MDX Query .
1.Can we run MDX Query in BEx.
2.If yes , then can you please tell me how and where can we run MDX Query in BEx.
    Regards,
    -Neha

    Hello,
BEx does not support MDX. You can use MDXTEST transaction to generate the MDX select statements against queries or infocubes but it cannot be used with BEx.
    Thanks,

    Hello,
I am using SAP GUI for JAVA v 6.40 R2.2 on a Linux desktop. But during the installation it doesn't ask for BW Bex installation option (as in SAP GUI for Windows). Is it the case that BW Bex is not supported in Linux Environment? If it is then kindly suggest some way to install the same.

  • Defining Complex Filters in BEx

I've noticed that BEx filter definitions seem to defaul to AND between the selecttion criteria for each different characteristic.  How can I define BEx filters to support OR between each characteristic selection?
    For example,
Mths of Service is greater than 60
    OR
    Birthdate is before 01/01/1970

    Hi Thuy,
Well I don't have access to the system right now but what comes to my mind is a mathematical operation:
    1. Create restricted key figure where Mths of Service is greater than 60 (A) and hide it.
    2. Create restricted key figure where Birthdate is before 01/01/1970 (B) and hide it.
    3. Create restricted key figure where Mths of Service is greater than 60 AND Birthdate is before 01/01/1970 (C) and hide it.
    4. Create calculated key figure : A+B-C and show it.

  • BEx Query not able to excecute on SAP Portal using Internet Explorer 9

    Hello,
What config. do I need to do in the Internet Explorer 9 so that it will excecute the query on SAP portal.

    Hi Arjun
Please check the SAP portal and BI system version and then check the compatibility for BEx Query in IE9.
Refer to http://service.sap.com/pam >> Click on SAP Netweaver version, here you can find the PDF files.
BI (BEX Web) is supported on IE9 with SAP porta version 7.0 SPS24 in vista or windows 7 if you SAP portal version is 7.0

  • Contatenate date field with Number in BEX

    Hi All,
I have a wierd requirement. Please let me know if it is really possible.
I have a key figure "#of people" and a characteristic "date"
Is it possible to concatenate these 2 and form another key figure.
    Example: if <b>#of people</b> is: 1,045 and<b> date</b>: 12/31/2007
the result key figure should show: <b>"12/31/2007   1,045"</b>

This is not possible with a key figure.  BEx does not support formulas that return strings (as this would have to be).  Only option I can see is create a characteristic in your cube of type character and use the update rules to do the conversion and concatentation.  Though I do wonder why you cannot have the date and the key figure simply next to each other in separate columns in the report.

What can i do in order user X see que query (on portal) in the default rows-columns??
This problem just happen with user X, others users see the query in the default format with no problems.
I ve tried deleting the portal personalization for user X on sap portal, but the problem persists...

  • Error when using replacement path variable in exception range

I'm trying produce a check report that produces exception highlighting based on a range determined by the associated characteristic.
    eg.
For Check 1, highlight cells in red where the associated key figure is between 1 and 999.
For Check 2, highlight cells in amber where the associated key figure is between -999 and -1.
Now, I know that the lower and upper limit of an exception can be populated by a formula variable. However, when I create a formula variable that uses a replacement path to fetch the limit values from the associated Check and use that in the exception, the query errors when I try to run it:
System Error: 'Variable name ( technical name ) does not exist or is incorrectly used 4 New Exception.'
The error long text suggests that the variable is being used incorrectly, even though it says for Formula variables:
... can be used in all cases. Note: Formula variables can have units or be without them. Incorrect use can also arise here since the system always calculates in accordance with the units. Formula variables can also be used to create the upper and lower limits in exceptions.
In this case, the formula variable does not have units.
Interestingly, but equally unhelpfully, if a regular constant is used instead of a formula variable for the lower limit, but a formula variable is still used for the upper limit, the error message changes to:
System error in program SAPLRRI2 and form FAC_VAR_IN_VREP_INSERT-1-
The query works if the formula variable simply holds a default value, so the problem clearly appears to be with replacement path. If BEx doesn't support replacement path formula variables in exceptions, then aside from the fact that it would be useful if that was stated in the errors, what alternatives, if any, deliver the functionality of exception ranges that change depending on the corresponding characteristic.

I put in the curly brackets so my formula now reads
    "Total inquiries for " + {CnAttrCat_1.CnAttrCat_1_Description} + ": " + ToText({@InquiryTypeSubtotal})
Now when I check the formula I get the error message "This field name is not known."

  • Workbook does not contain any input-ready variables

    Hello Experts,
We have one workbook which is not reacting when click on REFRESH or SHOW VARIABLE.
If clicked on VARIABLE screen it is throwing error "The workbook does not contain any input-ready variables" (screenshot attached)
Points I have checked are as below
    1. If I create a new workbook by executing the respective query and refresh then it is working.
    2. The file is in xls format and I have checked the USE XLS format under Global setting.
    3. My Excel version is 2010. SAP version is SAPKW70105. BEx 7.X, support package 8.
    4. It is not authorization issue otherwise the issue would have happened for the new workbook I created for testing.
    5. Also I tested with user ID with SAP ALL access.
is there any way to repair the workbook so that it respond to Variable and refresh options ?
    Thanks,
    Gopi R

  • Missing records: Crystal Reports MDX driver bug?

    Dear,
A Crystal Report based on a SAP BW MDX Query is not showing exactly the same results as when launching the Bex Query alone. No filters have been applied however in the crystal report.
The strange thing is that as long as I do not add a specific field in my Crystal report (0PROJECT), the numbers (totals etc.) are correct (=the same as when launching the Bex Query alone in Bex Analyzer). However, when adding the field 0PROJECT in the 'details' section of the Crystal Report, the totals, sums etc.. change and the numbers are no longer correct (some records are not taken into account, the total is lower)
This strange behaviour is only present when using the MDX driver. When the normal SAP BW query driver is used, all is fine (but the MDX functionalities are missing)
    Crystal Reports version = 12.3.1.684
SAP integration Kit has been installed
SAP Bex Query Designer= Support Package 12, Revision 642
Somebody knows how to explain/resolve this?
    kr,
    Toon Francx

    hi guys,
    lets be clear here:
Ingo: Indeed, when launching the MDX query via MDXTEST, i get the same results as in Crystal Reports (so with the omitted records)
When launching the bex query separately everything works perfectly though
    >> so you are basically saying that MDXTEST is showing you exactly the result as crystal Reports. If yes - then the problem is NOT in Crystal Reports.

  • How to use trace in analyzer of business explorer?

    hi all,
i was running a report in the analyzer, it is taking to much time and after that its connection is getting lost and i get an error as client out of memory. needed to see the trace so that i could analyze. can any one tell me how do i use the Trace?
    please help.
    regards
    vijay

    Hello Vijay,
Your query/workbook is exceeding 750 000 data cells and BEx Analyzer cannot support mroe than that.
    Please, review note 1040454
Regardless of the memory capacity in the front-end, a process can
allocate a maximum of approximately 1.2 gigabytes (GB) in the .NET
    framework.
This corresponds to approximately 750,000 data cells that can be
    displayed.
The system issues an error message when you try to allocate more memory.
In this case, reduce the number of cells to be displayed.
There is no way to exceed this limitation. SAP recommention is, reduce the query's result set.
    Thank you.
    Best Regards,
    Edward John
