BEx Query MDX code

Hi,
please could you tell me how can I retrieve the MDX code generated by a BEx query? Is there any command in the Query Designer or Analyzer that allow you to see the script used by the query to extract data from DB?
Thank you!

    Hi SDN,
Is it possible to manipulate characteristic values based on the key figure values in BEX Query output. Is that hack possible to control the query generated code at all?..

    Material  customer  Quantity customer_pcount
    M1             C1                100          1

  • MDX Error in WebI while running Bex Query

    Dear Experts,
In my System BO XI R3.1 Enterprise and Integration kit For SAP has installed.
While creating query with Efashion and MS Acess files query is running fine.
But in case of BI queries(InfoCube or BEx Query) it is giving "Select Dimension 1 CrossJoin Dimension2...."Error(10901).
Test Connection of BI (The server is responding)is working fine.
    How to solve the issue?
    Thanks in Advance
    Venkat P

    Hi Venkat,
Obviously there is something wrong with your query.
What happens if you parse the MDX using the BW transaction MDXTEST  - does it work ok?
You need to try and identify at what point the query is failing, i.e. is it caused at the BW layer or is it a problem at the XI3.1 application layer...?
I hope this is a very helpful answer to you.
    Kind regards,
    John

  • Crystal reports 2013 , SAP MDX Driver not able to connect with BW BEX Query

    Hi All,
We just installed Crystal 2013, and want to create crystal report on SAP BW CUBE/BEX Query through SAP MDX Driver.
1.When start connecting through SAP MDX Query option from new connection , SAP Systems which are in SAPLOGON are not appearing in initial screen. where as from OLAP Connection we are able to connect to SAP BEX Query.
2.Even from SAP Tool kit we are not able to connect to BEX query, we are getting ERROR MESSAGE.
and we are using SAP BI BO PLATFORM 4.1 sp01 .
Please suggest me , if I am missing any configuration settings.
    Regards,
    Joseph

    Hi Joseph,
Before you start building the report, make sure the right transports have been loaded on the SAP System. The right Transport files are the ones found inside the installation zip you download from SAP's server. They're under the "Collaterals\Add-Ons\SAP\Transports" folder.
For more info on Transports, authorizations etc, please have your BASIS admin go through this wiki:
Crystal Reports 2008 and BW - Installation and Configuration - Business Intelligence (BusinessObjects) - SCN Wiki
To resolve your first issue, please follow the steps from this thread:
Problems with SAPLogon.ini for SAP GUI and Crystal 2011
P.S: Crystal Reports for Enterprise 4.1 does a better job at handling BEx queries that the CR 2013 designer. It directly connects to BEx queries via the BICS connectivity driver and doesn't need the Transports to be there on the SAP System. You might want to give this flavour of CR a try too.

  • Need transaction code for opening Bex query designer?

    Hi ALL,
Can anyone help me with the transaction code for opening Bex query designer?
Like RRMX for Bex Analyzer similarly i want for Bex query designer.
    Thanks & Regards
    Sameer Khan

THERE IS NO TCODE FOR QUERY DESIGNER. BUT THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE..
    OPEN BEX ANALYSER THROUGH RRMX
    OPEN A QUERY
    CLICK ON TOOLS-> EDIT QUERY
THIS OPENS QUERY DESIGNER AND YOU CAN USE IT NORMALLY..

  • MDX for a BEx query with a characteristic structure

    Hi,
I have a BEx query with a characteristic structure in the rows.
    Material     Structure     Measure1
    a-Material     a-Structure     ....
    a-Material     b-Structure     ....
    b-Material     a-Structure     ....
    b-Material     b-Structure     ....
I am looking to run the query via MDX. Is that possible? If yes, how should be the mdx statement.
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Regards,
    McGreen

    Hi,
it will work, so long as you also include the Structure object in the WebI Query panel as a results objects.
the SELECT syntax is much the same as a 'normal' MDX statement.
the quickest way to tell them appart is how the Measures are called. normally, it starts:   SELECT [MEASURE.ABC123] NONEMPTY(CROSSJOIN( ...   ) )
however, when you have a Structure, all the declarations from the start of the statement looks like : SELECT [ABC123.ABC123] NONEMPTY(CROSSJOIN( ...   ) )
    i hope this helps.

  • How to Generate a MDX statement using a BEX query

    Hello,
Is there any possiblity in BW to generate a MDX statement using a BEx query?
    Thanks,
    Ravi

BW does not generate any MDX statement for Bex query.I have tried ample number of times to acheive this but failed.
Like an Infocube the Query is also an object where in you can write MDX queries on BEx Queries.
As it is I never found BW rendering MDX queries. But with MDX queries you can get something but how far it helps I don't know.
RSCRM_BAPI is obsolete and it is recommended to use RSCRM_REPORT somewhere I have read ,but when I went to that transaction I never found that "MDX" button at all.
It was converted to "OLAP Check" which gave me some warning on the key figures and that's it.
Somehow I feel BW is not comfortable with MDX.

you might want to use the HypQueryMembers vba call with it you can query the outline directly for a lot of things including User defined attributes
Here is the code sample from the VBA reference (it is available in Excel by going to the add-ins menu and selecting Hyperion Help
    Description
HypQueryMembers() executes the member selection query.
    Syntax
HypQueryMembers (vtSheetName, vtMemberName, vtPredicate, vtOption, vtDimensionName, vtInput1, vtInput2, vtMemberArray)
    ByVal vtSheetName As Variant
    ByVal vtMemberName As Variant
    ByVal vtPredicate As Variant
    ByVal vtOption As Variant
    ByVal vtDimensionName As Variant
    ByVal vtInput1 As Variant
    ByVal vtInput2 As Variant
    ByRef vtMemberArray As Variant
    Parameters
vtSheetName: (string) Text name of worksheet to operate on. vtSheetName is of the form "[Book.xls]Sheet". If vtSheetName is null, empty, or invalid (nonexistent or name does not match exactly), the active sheet is used.
vtMemberName: (string) The member name on which to perform the query.
    vtPredicate: (integer) Member selection criteria:
    1 HYP_CHILDREN
    2 HYP_DESCENDANTS
    3 HYP_BOTTOMLEVEL
    4 HYP_SIBLINGS
    5 HYP_SAMELEVEL
    6 HYP_SAMEGENERATION
    7 HYP_PARENT
    8 HYP_DIMENSION
    9 HYP_NAMEDGENERATION
    10 HYP_NAMEDLEVEL
    11 HYP_SEARCH
    12 HYP_WILDSEARCH
    13 HYP_USERATTRIBUTE
    14 HYP_ANCESTORS
    15 HYP_DTSMEMBER
    16 HYP_DIMUSERATTRIBUTES
vtOption: (integer) Options are dependent on the predicate:
For the predicate values, HYP_SEARCH and HYP_WILDSEARCH, specify query options: HYP_MEMBERSONLY
    HYP_ALIASESONLY
    HYP_MEMBERSANDALIASES
vtDimensionName: (string) Dimension to limit the scope of the query. It is used with the following query options and ignored otherwise: HYP_NAMEDGENERATION, HYP_NAMEDLEVEL, HYP_USERATTRIBUTE HYP_SEARCH (set to Null to search through all dimensions), HYP_WILDSEARCH (set to Null to search through all dimensions).
vtInput1: (string) Input string that is determined by the option. It is used with the following query options and ignored otherwise:
HYP_NAMEDGENERATION (The name of the generation)
HYP_NAMEDLEVEL (The name of the level)
HYP_SEARCH (The string to search for. The string is defined as an exact)
HYP_WILDSEARCH (The string to search for. The string is defined as an exact search string with an optional '*' at the end to mean any set of characters)
    HYP_USERATTRIBUTE (The user-defined attribute)
vtInput2: (string) Input string that is determined by the option. It is used with the following query options and ignored otherwise:
    HYP_USERATTRIBUTE (The user-defined attribute)
HYP_SEARCH, HYP_WILDSEARCH (If the options are set to search in the alias tables, this string specifies which alias table to search. If the string is Null, all alias tables will be searched).
vtMemberArray: Output that contains the result of the query. If unsuccessful, its contents are unknown.
    Return Value
Returns a zero if successful; otherwise, returns the appropriate error code.
    Example
Declare Function HypQueryMembers Lib "HsAddin.dll" (ByVal vtSheetName As Variant, ByVal vtMemberName As Variant, ByVal vtPredicate As Variant, ByVal vtOption As Variant, ByVal vtDimensionName As Variant, ByVal vtInput1 As Variant, ByVal vtInput2 As Variant, ByRef vtMemberArray As Variant) As Long
    Sub QueryMembersEmptyValues()
    vtRet = HypQueryMembers(Empty, Null, HYP_WILDSEARCH,
         HYP_MEMBERSONLY, "Year", "J*", "", vt)
    If IsArray(vt) Then
    cbItems = UBound(vt) + 1
         MsgBox ("Number of elements = " + Str(cbItems))
    For i = 0 To UBound(vt)
         MsgBox ("Member = " + vt(i))
    Next
    Else
    MsgBox ("Return Value = " + Str(vt))
    End If

  • SAP BW BEx query - WEBi MDX query

Hi Experts, have we had some discussion on this?
Does MDX query send by WEBi report to BW use the same program to extract data from BW database?
One of the option for WEBi report source of data is to build Universe on top of BEx query. Could you share how this process actually happen.
    I think
    - WEBi query will pass parameters that is relevant for BEx query filter of the universe
    - the BEx query will then extract the data (following normal process if we run BEx query independently)
    - if WEBi has further filtering, it will then get the BEx result above and filter it further ..??
So, how is MDX query come into the picture?
    Or is it:
    - WEBi query and the BEx query will determine what MDX query will be generated, and this MDX query will then fetch the data.
But why BEx query extract data faster then MDX query?
Sorry, i am new to this. hope someone could share some light here. In the meantime i continue to real those documentation and try to get some more ideas of what is actually happening.
    Thanks.

Hi Thanks a lot for pointing this out.
Did i understand it correctly that BEx query is using a different set of program (platform) to retrieve data compare to MDX query, and not MDX uses those program that is used by BEx to retrieve data from BW database and have extra steps on top of that?
Can anyone share what is actually happen WEBi MDX query is executed (how the database is hit with SQL, and what are the tools to evaluate the efficiency of the WEBi (or the used BEx). As for BEx we have RSRT to analyze it right.
And even to test the MDX query using MDXTEST and try to get the data from WEBi report, i found WEBi report still take considerably a lot longer. Why is this so? just because BO is a different system then BW?
And as it's shared the BO 4.0 is using the same platform as BEx to retrieve data from BW database, does this mean we don't need to care about MDX usage in BW anymore as far as BO data extraction concern?
    Thank you very much.

  • Bex Query- Use of ABAP code in Calculated Keyfigure/formula

    Dear Experts.
I am wondering if there is any way to use ABAP in the formula editor of the Bex Query desinger.
I have to build a report with very complex formulas (a lot of key figures, comporations, If then else ) an I think it would be easier to build all then in ABAP.
So what I am looking for is any kind of user-exit/Badi that allows to calculate a Calculated Key figure/fomula in ABAP with the same data that is availabe in the fomula editor.
If SAP is not providing this, this is clearlly a must for next releases.
Thanks a lot and best regards,
    Alfonso.

    Dear Ananda.
Thnaks for your reply, but could you please extend your answer a little bit more?
As far as I know, Formula customer exit variables are only called once and they don´t provide the rest of the keyfigures and characteristic use in the drilldown level, so for my needs they are useless.
Regarding IF-then-else statement in the formula, I already know about it. Actually what I am trying to avoid is to use them. In order to build my query I might need to build really big formulas with a lot of If-then-else, making it quite complex what the formula is doing. This is the reson I want to do it on ABAP.
    Please any other ideas?
    Thanks a lot.

  • No data in Crystal report created on SAP BW BEx Query

    Hi Experts,
I am trying to create a Crystal report on top of a BW query. I am able to login to the BW system and open the BEx query and the objects are coming into the crystal report.
But when I drag and drop some objects into the details area and try to preview sample - it does not show any data (it shows accessing database but doesnt bring any data)
I copied the generated SQL query in to the section in the BW system in transaction code 'MDXTEST' and it runs correctly and shows me the result below there.
Just to try - I unchecked 'Use MDX..' check box by following the path SAP->Settings to check if that could bring back data ... and YES that worked which means data is not coming from the BW query with MDX connection but when MDX seems to be fine and retrieve result when I run the sql statement in tcode MDXTEST.
Also when I do preview samples - I can see in SM50 in BW system that it is trying to run the report just that I am not able to see any data in my crystal report.
Any help in this regards would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Sunny

    Hello
The order of display of attributes in Webi and Crystal report would be different.
Collapse the infoobject and skim through the attributes, you should be able to find them.

  • SubStr function in Universe on BEx Query

    Hi SAP BO experts,
We have a universe based on SAP BEx Query with an object  "WBS Element",  a 24 Character field from which we need to resolve certain sections as different objects for reporting purpose.  One of the objects required is first 8 chars (WBS Project No.)  Following code is used in object definition.
    <EXPRESSION>Substr(@Select(WBS Element\WBS Element), 1, 8)</EXPRESSION>
Parsing is OK at universe level.
Webi query without "WBS Project No" is running OK but when "WBS Project No" is used, I get an error - invalid MDX command (WIS 10901).
What is the correct syntax?  Any input will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Venkat

You can-not return characteristics via <EXPRESSION> tag.
In fact right now it is not possible to do substring and similar operations. You can only create objects which returns numeric
    value.

  • Field Explorer in Crystal Reports does not show the same names as Bex Query

    Hi
I have crystal reports, I can retrieve data from BW Bex Query. But in the field explorer it does not show the names as in the Bex query designer.
In the Bex query designer a field will have the following technical name 0Debitor and the description is Customer.
It shows in crystal reports in the field explorer twice as D[0DEBITOR]D and D[0DEBITOR]D. It also does not seperate key figures and characteristics.
I would like it to display the field explorer as shown in this blog.

    Hi,
    take a look here:
    /people/ingo.hilgefort/blog/2008/02/19/businessobjects-and-sap-part-2
make sure you are using the MDX Driver and what happens is that you will see several fields per characteristic. example: one for the key, one for the description, several if modelled for the display attributes
