Bi-lingual website

Hi,
I'd like create a bi-lingual website in iWeb. The visitor chooses on the home page either English or Dutch. Obviously the next pages will only be in the chosen language. I have the idea that it should not be too hard but I just can't get my head around it. Any ideas?
Cheers,
Joris

You need to create two versions of the site - one in English and one in Dutch. Then just place links on the site to firstly the English version and then the Dutch version.

  • WCM for Multi-lingual Website How To?

    Hi,
    I am new to Oracle UCM, and would like to know if there is any link/document talking about WCM for multi-lingual website?
    Which is the best way if a website contains content in different language such as English, Chinese, etc.
    Thanks.

    Sapan has provided a good start with the "lc" iDocScript command. However, this only works for your static strings such as menus, etc.
    You will need to put a lot of thought into how to handle multiple languages with your data files. A lot of people have several copies of their web sites (one for each language), but this gets kind of difficult after the languages start to add up. WCM is very good at multi-site management, but the number one thing to keep in mind for multi-lingual: do not be fooled, it is going to take some real roll your sleeves up old fashioned work.
    There are several options for multi-lingual site architectures and I recommend you spend a few weeks with an Oracle WCM Architect talking it out (either form oracle or one of the many partners). It's just too large a topic for a forum post to answer satisfactorily.

  • Creating multi-lingual websites in ucm

    Hello,
    is it possible to create multi-lingual websites in ucm?
    The product webpage (http://www.oracle.com/products/middleware/content-management/web-content-management.html) says yes. But I can't find anything in the documentation or in Site Studio.
    Regards

    Internal content server and site studio pages (and a few others) can use the "lc" iDocScript function and a set of resource files to localize things. From there you'll need to figure out an approach for multi lingual contribution regions which can be anything from some serious customizations to having a separate copy of the site for each language.

  • How to change locale of "jslang=' ' in the head of webpage of dynamic BC website

    I recently replicated a BCGurus template to my partner portal. The template is used for a dynamic website. I've noticed when the culture is set in site domains, e.g. Netherlands and culture none, the var slang="NL" is set in the <head> of the template automatically. The webforms submit buttons are shown in Dutch and not in English and some other dynamically added values like dates and add-to favorites.
    When you set the culture to English then the web-forms submit buttons (and the others) are shown in English. So far so good you would think. But what if I want to set-up a multi-lingual website with the use of folders (directories)? With sub-domains you don't have this problems because you can set the locale per sub domain.
    Is there a workaround for this? Or what is the best scenario for setting up a multi-lingual dynamic site in folders?
    Thx, Carla@home

    If you're working within a Defined Local Site folder in DW, you can create folders and move files into those folders from the DW Files Panel (F8).  DW will intuitively ask if you want to update links.  Hit YES.
    If you did all this outside DW or you don't have a Defined Site, you're stuck with bad links.  You'll need to use Find & Replace (Ctrl+F) to set your link paths to where they need to be.

  • How to validate with CS5?

    Hi all,
    I have Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 which means the Validator is deprecated for HTML pages or sites.
    I know it's back as a W3C Validator in CS5.5, but I have to do with 5.
    Any ideas on how I can validate my code within CS5?
    This is a professional environment, so freeware, unofficial add-ons or external app are not an option.
    Thanks & Regards.

    It is possible to have a multi-lingual website with a variety of page structures (like calendars, shopping pages, contact forms) with just a single "html" page and a small set of includes. In fact, most of the websites I build are this way, though a few have as many as six html pages (actually PHP pages).
    My point is that without knowing anything about your help system, in all likelihood is is made the wrong way. 700 pages--that sounds like a site from 1998! Multiple languages can be handled in the database, so that you have a 'page' table that contains all the non-language-specific fields, and a page_content table that contains the language-specific fields.
    You say it is a help system, not a website, but even if you are unable to use PHP, ASP, and a database, there would have to be a better way.

  • Dreamweaver CS5 Templates

    How can I change the template that is attached to a file.  I'm translating a page into another language so I will need an English version and a Mandarin version.  I need a different template with the new language on it.  I made changes to the original English index.html file (this uses template main.dwt), renaming it index-ch.html.  Now I need to have the new translated template (main-ch.dwt) linked to the index-ch.html file intead of the original one.
    Is there a quick way to switch templates?  Thanks.
    kcelsi

    A Dreamweaver template is used for styles, not language.
    Here is a perfect example of the use of a Dreamweaver template in a multi-lingual website: Pac Newington Rental Hall
    As you can see on the page, you have three flags denoting three different languages, English, Spansh and Polish. Since the main website is in English, I have defined just the main content <div> as in Spanish and Polish, but one could also build a template to use other languages for everything, including the sidebar the navigation and every other element.
    The main thing that you want to do is to either define the <body> element as being the wrapper with the particular language or the particular div in question.
    In my example, I have the following code in the main content div:
    <div lang="pl">
    This identifies the main content area as being in Polish. Language-aware browsers (like Google's Chrome) will ask you if you want a translation if you have your primary language set as English.
    Since you can nest a <div> inside of a <div> and it will carry all of the same characteristics of its parent by default, defining a <div> just on the basis of a language is really simple.
    For navigation, I chose to use English, the parent language of the website, as well as for the sidebar and the photos. A polish-American club in the United States will tend to have sufficient English knowledge in its membership to not make navigation a problem. But you could create navigation as an editable part of your template:
    <!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="nav" -->
    put your navigation here
    <!-- InstanceEndEditable -->
    Prolem with this is that navigation changes (a big reason why I template websites using Dreamweaver) won't change if you change the template.
    There is a way around this: Do your templates in html pages that are called by php (assuming you do have php on your server):
    <?php include 'nav.html'; ?>
    This requires that all of your web pages be php pages; they must end in .php even though they are mostly HTML.
    Again, you can template this and make the php statement be an editable region. That way you can have:
    <?php include 'navpl.html'; ?>
    <?php include 'naven.html'; ?>
    <?php include 'naves.html'; ?>
    <?php include 'navde.html'; ?>
    for Polish, English, Spanish and German language navigation. You can also have php check the body's language identifier if you choose to identify your page's language in the body.
    I don't find php includes to be as easy to maintain as standard Dreamweaver Templates, but your mileage may vary.

    That's much too complicated. This is for a single page, with

  • Change system text with visual studio

    Hello
    I'm new to Sharepoint however I learn quickly. I administer multi-lingual website and I'm asked to make some text corrections in system messages that are displayed to users. I was told this can be done by editing .resx file using visual studio?
    Can someone explain how to do it? I don't want to change anything manually.
    Thanks!

    Changing the SharePoint resource files (.resx) is not supported. After a SharePoint update, your modifications can be undone.
    There are several other options to change system text:
    1) Develop a custom control and load it in the AdditionalPageHead. In the OnPreRender event, locate the other controls you want to change and modify the text
    2) Develop a jQuery script that will search the page for the controls and modify the text.

  • Mulit-Lingual PDF

    Hi,
    We have a requirement to create PDFs in 11 languages: English; Japanese; Chinese Traditional & Simplified; Korean; French; Spanish; German; Italian; Russian; Thai. (The captions for the 20-30 fields need to be in differet languages)
    These PDF files will be available as links from a web-site. The web-site will be in a particular language so will be able to make the language available to the PDF via the URL Call to that PDF. Some additional parameters including name and email address eill be made available from the URL call.
    So when the user clicks on the PDF, it will open in their language and be pre-populated with some of the details of the user they are logged onto the website as.
    Once the form is completed on the website, a submit button will send the PDF and some parameters via a URL call to a Java Servlet which will attach it as an e-mail and send it.
    The above design means that there will have to be 11 copies of the template
    to be maintained.
    Is it possible (without creating a process in LiveCycle to dynamically create the PDF with the captions dynamically populated) to dynamicaly populate captions in a PDF. The business don't want to rely on the availbility of the LiveCycle server for this process.
    I thought about having the javascript in the initialize event for each field with if "English" then caption.rawValue"Name" etc.
    I just wondered how any-one else would approach this.
    Thanks
    James

    There is nothing wrong with your approach but in practice there will be a lot of code just to do language. The amount of code required will affect performance of the form (as well you will have issues with space as each phrase in a caption is a different length in different languages).
    Another technique would be to have the captions of each of the fields kept in a separate XML file and have them bound to the caption of each field. When your user selects a language you would merge the language specific XML file onto the template and you would achive what you want. Note that you would need LC server for this.
    In my experience Customers who have tried to do multi-lingual forms end up creating single language templates to reduce that amount of complexity required.

  • Website (data) design

    I developed an enterprise website twice in my life now. The first one was for my scholar project and the otrher one for work.
    Now I am trying to upgrade the website I did for my school project. Basically it is a complete change. This was first coded in C# (because of my course requirments) now as some have noticed in my past posts I am trying to make it in Java.
    However there are some issues.
    [1]
    In the previos project, each page was inserted in the database. Each page could have a parent, and could have childreen. This made it easy for me to set the navigation of the website. For example I cold have the following:
    News > History > The Article
    Where the bold part would be the current page the user is in. This I could do using just a simple sql that retrieved the elements parent. This I remeber gave me some problems because News element does not have a parent, and I had to create root which was the parent of anything. However now I am rethinking my design ... do not know if this is the best or not.
    [2]
    My last website had to also be multi lingual ... I failed completly mostly because of lack of time. However I had did the basic logic to make it work as multi lingual. However for this to work, every text element had to be inserted inside the database, any news, and title, etc. I remeber for this I did a table. this table had the page, text id, text language and text itself. Then I had a dll that loaded the text according to the page and according the language set in the session. However this meant that the (back then) aspx pages where no longer readable since the code was something like this:
    <%=pagehandler.getText(
       Session["language"].toString(),
       "text1")%>As I said readability for the page goes down the drain, and therfore I did not like it much. However till now I still have not find a better solution for this!!
    Well those are the problems I would like to discuss. I know thisis a little long, but would be thankfull for any sugestions.
    regards,
    sim085

  • Sso to a website

    Hi,
    i have a website with login.jsp as follows.. i made it simple
    login.jsp
    <html>
    <script language = "javascript">
    function encrypt()
    document...password.value = document.password.value + "a";
    document.LogOn.submit();
    </script>
    <form action = "/servlet/loginservlet" >
    <input type = text name=username >
    <input type = password name=password>
    <button onClick="javascript:encrypt();return(false)" Login</button>
    </form>
    </body>
    </html>
    i created a system with template "web application" which is based on appIntegrator.par
    in the system definition cateogry
    <b>servername : hostname
    port : 8000
    uri of web application : /servlet/loginservlet (as shown in the action tag of above login page)</b>
    and the iview under the cateogry "<b>content - generic launcher"</b>
    <b>system : systemalias as mentioned
    url template: <System.protocol>://<System.server>:<System.port><System.uri>?<Authentication></b>
    url template for user mapping: <b>Username=<MappedUser>&Password=<MappedPassword></b>
    the username and password is passed directly to the loginservlet, but it is not able to login, the reason being that..
    as you see in the login.jsp..there is a script which adds "a" at the end of password.
    but I am not going through login.jsp. I am using appIntegrator and calling the loginservlet directly passing the username and password.
    so could some one suggest any solution for this problem.
    please let me know if i am not clear
    thank you
