BIG problems!! with new P67-GD65 (B3) builld. HELP!

I built a new i7-2600k/MSI P67 earlier this year and had a lot of great help and input from this forum and I was hoping you all could
pull my bacon from the fire again....I will be as concise as I can.
I recieved and installed my replacement board from 'egg (B3) and everything was good. everything ran fine - temps good - SLI worked(with futzing) happy, happy.
Installed and played Crysis2 -yea! was in about chapter 21 or so when things started going wonky.
I did not get the bsod, but instead a MAJOR slowdown in everything. I mean everything. To the point now where it takes over 25 minutes to load to the desktop........
I am in the process of trying to figure this out, so bear with me.
The only thing I have changed before this occured was to dw the nVidia 267.45(think that is the one) driver update. I was going to back out of that driver to the older one
but have not gotten there yet.....
I think, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think something is dying, maybe my RAM? (G.Skill ripjaws 1066)?????
Any ideas befor I go any further? It is a bi%^CH to try and get any info, moves soooo slooow.....
P.S. Windows did several repair attempts (ha ha) found nothing except on one run, " system files & Integrity" failed - error code0x490 ???????
start-up repair or start windows normally
'preciate any input/help
<edit> I was wrong - after posting when Windows tries to start there is a brief flash of bsod, the it goes to ''start-up repair' or 'start windows normally'...repair shows nothing amiss

It's a Windows MS Config problem. Follow the link below to find the solution.
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-system/ststem-restore-error-code-0x490-and-sys-file/efa79e48-1ef6-47d1-85f2-1b1e374c0ec2
Thanks NovJoe, but I'm running win 7 and I can't get into safe mode or anything. also i am not getting the 02 code - just the 049code
 >UPDATE< - Well whadda ya know!!! seems I found the issue. After trying and failing to get into safe mode I dived into the bios to check my settings, hoping I could find some kind of a hint......
SOMEHOW all my Sata settings got switched back to the default IDE settiing......switched them back the way I originally had them (AHCI) and VIOLA! I am back in business!!! Very weird though. Do you think
the newest nVidia driver did that??????Hmmmmm
Let me know if anyone has any ideas, please.

  • Big Problem with new PB SD-DL (shuts down each time)

Hello I have a big Problem with my new PB 1,67 SD-DL.
If I use it with the Powersupply there is no problem but if want to use it without the powersupply it shut down each time!!!
Sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes after 3 minutes or 10 minutes... (remaining battery time 3 hours)
If I reboot it tells me that the system clock is before 2001 and I have set the right date.
What should I do? I have already made a PMU Reset but nothing happens.
The PB is 3 Weeks old and I have calibrate the battery correctly.

You state that you've already tried resetting your PMU. Perhaps you should try resetting your NVRAM & PRAM. Frankly, I think this is a long shot, but it's worth a try.

  • Big problem with new WD Caviar Green HDD, please advise!

I bought a new Western Digital Caviar Green HDD 1TB, ( WD10EADS ) it is a SATA 3Gb/s interface HDD, 3.5-inch form factor. the RPM = IntelliPower (NOT 7200 RPM or 5400 RPM which means Rotate automatically depends on the needs of fetching data I suppose?)
    I acknowledged that this series of HDD which three of 6 have the same Power Management which Read/Write = 4.9W / Idle = 2.8W / Standby = 0.4 W / Sleep = 0.4W
    They are differ from the other 3, which 500GB one is 4.1W / 2.2W / 0.8W / 0.8W and 1.5TB is 4.73W 2.75W / 0.72W / 0.72W; 2TB is 6W 3.7W 0.8W 0.8W
Which mean the Standby and Sleep mode are the same state.
Now my big problem is, I bought an external dock SI-7908UI for this WD Caviar Green HDD.
    So I first put the HDD into the SI-7908UI Dock ( USB 2.0 / eSATA / Firewire 400 /800 )
I tried many way of sequence of who power on first? WD Caviar Power on first? or Mac mini Power on first? I found that the best way is Mac mini Power on first, then Power on the external HDD.
OK, before I address my big problem, I should let you know, I found that there is NO S.M.A.R.T. working when you put a S.M.A.R.T. HDD outside the Mac or PC. In Dock, the S.M.A.R.T. won't work, That's how I saw in System Profiler, the FireWire tab says " S.M.A.R.T. status: Not Supported "
and I did test a Non-Green Maxtor HDD, the S.M.A.R.T. doesn't show either. You'll need this info before the real problem I'm gonna say in the following.
NOW, about 10~15 minutes after my Mac mini boot, if I didn't fetch anything from my external HDD, it would goes to sleep itself, that confirmed that the Specification Sheet was true, the Idle = 2.8W and I believe it goes to Idle, NOT Standby or Sleep, which I also believe the Standby or Sleep signal is supposed to be given by Mac OS, but it sounds like Standby or Sleep, BECAUSE the WD HDD suddenly not rotate and the sound it appears that it goes to SLEEP, am I right? I keep Mac awake by browsing the web so Mac mini won't go to sleep (I set 10 minutes in Energy Saver and I checked Put the HDD to sleep when possible)
Well, That is my big problem when WD Green HDD goes to sleep, because I CAN'T wake it up, NOT eject or Shut down the Mac mini. (OK, I'm NOT sure if it goes to Sleep or Idle)
First I thought it freezes the whole Mac OS, then I found I still can move many things, such as I am doing right now, post this big problem here. but I am sure the others are freeze! and no matter how many time I click Shut Down or Restart or Force Quit, the Mac mini didn't respond.
I tried to figure it out because I don't want to Shut Down by force.(5 seconds Press the Power button)
then I found that if I power down the external dock 7908-UI when Mac fail to shut down/restart/or eject the external HDD, It worked.
And the Mac OS will appear a window says that "I shouldn't unplug an external device without Ejecting it first" something like that. and suddenly it shuts down very quickly, everything back to normal, it shut down successfully.
What am I gonna do with this? Am I going to power down my external HDD first every time I want to shut down/eject/restart? Because the Eject the external HDD will cause freeze too! Freeze Finder I suppose.
Is it caused by 7908-UI ? or Caused by WD Caviar's Green Power management?
Because I don't trust 7908-UI, it doesn't look like a trusted brand, I've never heard of this SSI company anyway.
What am I gonna do? Please advise.
    Thanks in advance.

Please realise that I am not the right person to be asking. I pointed you to a thread where, as a Moderator at the Bombich forums, I felt the need to warn users of CCC that a WD drive might cause problems. The thread mainly just copies what WD have said.
Obviously your drive will respond/awake/spin up when you access it manually. Some of the problems are...
    •  Most users want to be in control of whether and/or when a drive sleeps -- WD's auto-sleep cannot be disabled and so precludes that.
    •  Most users want their drive to obey settings in Energy Saver -- the WD auto-sleep mechanism doesn't allow that.
    •  Most users want a scheduled cloning/backup to take place during the night. The cloning app starting the backup process should cause the target drive, if sleeping, to wake/spin up so that the process can take place -- it does for all drives except WD drives where the auto-sleep mechanism used doesn't allow it. LaCie drives, for instance, have auto-sleep +as an option+, during which the drive will respond to Energy Saver settings and to software such as a cloning app.
Please, Mauricette, put you questions/concerns/problems to the reseller or to WD, both of whom took your money without warning you. I am NOT a WD expert! ...or lover! ( )   I became more than disenchanted when I saw that a) WD do not point out the limitations of their external drives at point of sale, and b) WD put the blame for these inadequacies/problems/limitations onto Apple, ignoring the fact that no drives other than WD drives have them.

  • Big Problems with new macbook

I was wondering if anyone else was having serious fuctional problems with a new macbook---I bought mine a few months ago and sometimes, for hours at a time, it refuses to turn on. I have gotten it repaired several times. I bought an apple because I heard they didn't have these sorts of debilitating problems. Is this common? Does it go away? I have had it repaired at the Apple store twice and the isue always comes back after a week or so? Did I just get a lemon? What would you apple devotees do in this situation?

Kathleen, these problems aren't normal. Usually the quality of Apple products is top shelf but every now and again a stinker will get through. I think you got a lemon.
Call AppleCare and tell them of your continuing problems, be polite but firm. If the first person you speak to isn't able to help ask for a manager. Once again be polite and have them look up the repairs on your Mac. They should agree to excahnge your troublesome Mac with a new one.
Don't wait longer...your Mac is almost new and the problems aren't going to go away...they'll more than likely get worse.

  • Big problems with new site

Sorry to repeat what has already been posted, but talk about a runabout.
The new site seems to me to be totally hit and miss.
I wish to retain my paper bills, and so do not wish to upgrade my account and have tried to access my latest bill etc.
I managed to get there once but I am totally bemused as to how.
The posted workaround does not help and I am getting somewhat frustrated to say the least.
Please lets have the old site back.
    At least it worked.

  • Big problem with new Mac Pro

Last night I left my computer to do some work, I set it to no sleeping but turn off the monitor. This morning I couldn't get any video feed from my computer, so I had to force it to shutdown. Now I try to turn it on and it won't boot completely into OS X. I see the Apple logo and then a sky blue screen but it just stops there. I tried to boot into the DVD installer that came with my system and the same thing! It will not boot into it completely! Stuck at blue screen. What's going on?

One thing I have learned over the years, a severely corrupt directory on a drive will prevent booting. Why? because even a CD/DVD still will try to read and mount the drive and detect other system volumes.
As a test, pull the drive and try rebooting. Then install OS X to another drive if you don't currently have a bootable clone.
Disk Warrior preventative maintenance or at first sign of trouble is pretty much a 'must.'

  • Help! Big problem with new iphone update: infos & contacts disappeared from my iphone!

    Hi,

THANKS SOOO MUCH!

Contacts and calendar events aren't backed up? That's a complete load of hokey. They are backed up, and I ran into a similar problem and recovered them FROM the backup. Here's my post:

  • Serious Problem with New Mac Pro! Please help!!

    Ok, long story short.
My Mac pro keeps crashing after I installed the latest 05-2007 security update. It seems to crash everytime I come back to the computer after the screensaver has been on for a while (its not the screensaver though) I reinstalled the newer v1.1 version of the update and I thought the problem had gone, but it hasnt as the computer just crashed again.
I cannot see any correlation to any other programs, and im 99% sure its not a hardware issue. It does not seem to relate to parallels, or the screensaver, or itunes, or anything!
And there is another crazy thing, when the computer restarts, it says that it recovered from a serious error and asks you to sumit a report, so i click the send report button and do you see a normal report window with all the code ? NO!!! Press report and the initial window just DISAPPEARS, nothing else happens!!! i.e it wont send the but to apple!! no wonder they haven't fixed it!!!

  • Have a big problem with report. Very urgent please help

I have a report rep1. When I run the report via batch thru command rwclient to create a file it failed. I got the follwoing error message:
REP-0177: Error while running in remote server
Job 1413 is terminated due to connection timeout.
It does not even try for few seconds before gives this message. I ran some other batch reports whihc took 15 minutes and they were fine.
So, I stopped running the bad report for the day thinking the report is still not dead. I ran the same rep1 next day I still get the same error message. But this time when I ran I looked at the appserver showjobs (which lists the reports that were running and that already ran). The job number is different But still it fails in 3 seconds with the job number 1413 and connection time out. Can any one tell what might be the problem.
Any number of times I run this job I get the same job number with same error (all this is only if I run it as batch using rwclient). If I run this as online by calling it from a form it returns the results without any problems.
    Please help. Very urgent.
    Thanks in advance.
    Asha

You might want to delete the report server .dat file and restart the server and try
his also could be one of the issues we had seen and fixed in 9.0.2.3. Please ensure you have the latest patch applied

  • Big problems with Firewire iPod and camcorder  - please help!

    Hi all,
I don't know where else to turn with this problem. I think I've damaged my Firewire kit.
I have an iPod 4G 20GB and a Canon MV901 MiniDV Camcorder. I used them both over Firewire with my Pismo without difficulty, but I then tried video editing on my Windows machine with a firewire PCI card. Scrabbling around the back of my computer, I think I somehow managed to get the firewire cable to the camcorder in the socket upside down, reversing the power and data conncectors. Nothing really happened, but the camcorder stopped showing up. I tried it a good few times, then tried my iPod. By some bizarre coincidence, I think I managed to plug the iPod in the same way. Now, my iPod doesn't work on either the Windows machine or the Pismo over firewire, but does over USB2.0 on my Windows machine.
I measured the power going through the Firewire power pins as around 13.5 volts on my Pismo and the card, but the card also has an auxiliary power connector. This was disconnected when I tested it, but was connected when the iPod and camcorder were.
The thing I would like to know is whether a voltage spike of this size could fry the firewire controllers on both devices. The iPod's diagnostic mode detects that firewire is connected, but will not show up. Strangely, it still charges over firewire from either machine. Have I permanately damaged the firewire controllers?
    Thanks in advance,
    Rob Johnson

    Rob,
If you mistakenly inserted the FireWire connector twisted 180 degrees, the power lines can be directly connected to the data lines and can result in a fried PHY (connects the port to the FireWire bridge) or the FireWire bridge itself.
You can take a look at the voltage specs for FireWire ports and see that your voltage readings are well withing specs:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58207
I am not sure where you go from here. You could try a known-good FireWire device connected to your Pismo and see if it works. If not, the data-side of the FW port may have failed. I don't know about testing the iPod or camcorder.
A possible cheap fix for the Pismo FireWire is a FireWire PC card; if running 10.x, it will just be a plug & play affair. However, unlike built-in FireWire ports, FireWire PC cards supply very little bus power. Your camcorder will work since it has it owns power supply (assuming there is no hardware failure) and but am unsure about the iPod. The iPod will not charge, of course, but it may still work in data transfers. There are a few FireWire PC cards that also have their own power supply.

btw. i created new user, and everything is working ok.

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line on this page to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Big problems with slideshows

Hi, I've a big problem with iPhoto (and Aperture too, but I'll say later).
Two days ago I was creating a small slideshow (18 pictures) and everything was fine. Suddenly, while I was looking for a theme, switching between 3 of them, iPhoto stopped to work. No ESC, no key, I had to restart my iMac, turning it off.
From this moment every slideshow I select, iPhoto stop to work and need a force quit. So I restored a library, from Time machine, but nothing changed.
So I bought Aperture, but nothing changed, using iPhoto Library.
Now I've created an Aperture Library, importing in it my old iPhoto Library. Is there any way to "clean" iPhoto, reinstalling it from new? Do I need such a action?
    Thank you and best regards.

That means that there is something in your account that's the culprit.  First try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If that fails it might be another preference file that's causing the problem.  Here's how to test for that:

NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
    1 - close all applications.
2 - open your Home/Library folder and Option-drag (copy) the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
3 - select the contents of your Home/Library/Preferences folder and drag them into the Trash bin in the Dock.  You will be asked to provide your Admin password.
    4 - reboot.
5 - run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed
6 - If the problem is fixed:
    A - open the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
B - Open the Preferences  folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace or Skip button.
    D - reboot.
7 - If the problem is NOT fixed, drag the contents of the Preference folder on the Desktop into the Home/Library/Preference folder and replace the entire contents that were created by clicking on Replace.
    8 - reboot.
