Black macbook battery

Hello
I am in need of a mid 2008 black macbook battery replacement. I am looking at third party sellers and came across this one: http://www.buy.com/prod/replacement-battery-for-apple-13-macbook-a1181-a1185-bla ck/212644634.html
Would this work or should I go for the apple brand?
Thank you!!!

I've had good luck with 3rd party batteries. I've gotten 4 of them off of eBay.

  • Black MacBook battery charger question.

Can I use the charger from a 2009 MacBook Pro on a 2006 Black MacBook Pro?  I'm having trouble charging the battery on the MacBook and now think it might be the charger (I've already replaced the battery, reset the SMC, and run he battery update).  The specs on the chargers themselves are very nearly, but not quite identical.

but my battery is still working fine
I'll be you anything it's not. With that many cycles it's not uncommon for weird things to start happening regardless of how well it performs. I would look into getting a new battery as well.
    Have you reset the SMC?

  • Where can I find a black A1185 battery for my macbook?

I have a A1181 black macbook and am having trouble finding a A1185 battery that fits snuggly.  Any recommendations?

You can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 and 2010 White Unibodies use the same A1185 battery.

  • Battery Condition: Replace Soon. Black Macbook

    Hello all,
I have had my black macbook for about four and a half years. In the past few months I've had a lot of problems with it including a new harddrive. I am currently out of the US for eight months, studying in Italy.  I got the new harddrive here in Italy at a authorized mac repair shop (not an apple store).
About two weeks ago I noticed the condition on my battery life going down. It will only hold a full charge for about an hour. It's fine with me because I don't usually take my computer anywhere so I can always just plug in the magsafe when it runs low.
About a week ago, the condition of my battery changed to "Replace Soon". A few days ago I noticed it was at "Replace Now" but currently its back to "Replace Soon."
I looked up how much a replacement battery would cost, and it's really expensive and the amount of money I've already put into this computer is getting a little crazy.
My question is: Can I continue using my macbook plugged in even when the battery life is at Replace Now or Replace Soon? I don't mind keeping it plugged in all day, I just don't want the harddrive or anything else to crash again.
    Thank you.

  • Why did my black macbook 2006 just shut off while gaming. it wont turn back on and the battery shows no charge when indeed it was charging

Black macbook just shut down while playing warcraft 3. It wont turn back on and has no charge on the battery ( it was charging just fine). Any ideas?

This can be caused by faulty battery. Make Genius reservation and take the iPhone to Apple Store for free quick battery diagnostic testing.

  • Macbook Battery Problem

Hi all, this is my first post, but something weird happened to my macbook that I have to share with you.
Ok, my Macbook Core Duo 2.0GHz (1st generation) have had no problem during its first and half year. Then I left the notebook sitting at home for one month as I was away on business. Came back, the machine won't start, used AC adaptor and showed the battery not charging, "x" and everything. My warranty expired, so I bought a new battery. Once I got that, it worked fine for almost 7 months.
Another business trip left my macbook for 1 month, I came back, the battery is dead again!!! So I went to apple support and bought another new battery. This time I installed it at home, and it doesn't charge what-so-ever. I tried everything from SMU reset, PMU reset, P-RAM reset. NOTHING WORKED.
So I took a friend's macbook battery to try, and it worked! I can charge that battery with my macbook, and my battery won't charge on his macbook. So scientifically I thought its the battery defect. I went to Apple Care and they say they will replace it for me, but think that it should be my macbook's problem. Must be the Logic Board, I explained why I disagree, and that the battery came with only one LED blinking when I got home to charge, the current was already too low to charge.
Anyways, I was able to buy a second-hand battery really cheap but with limited life-span and use it until my replacement battery returns. Everything seem fine and I can charge it up to 100% although it will only last me 50-mins, still not bad, right?
I was reluctant to completely drain this battery now since I am afraid it will drop to zero and won't recharge like the other ones.
I am using Boot Camp, and Vista as well as OS X. Suddenly today, two days after I bought the 2nd hand battery, I was using Vista to show my friend the battery problem is fixed. But suddenly out of nowhere the battery dropped from 95% charged to 0% in seconds. It shuts down automatically, and the battery was flashing one LED indicating it's dying.
I started back in Mac OS X and found the charger able to recharge, but it fixed at 0% for 20 minutes. I thought I am screwed and went out for a smoke. I came back to see the battery charging back to 5% and then slowly to 10%, and 20%, suddenly it went back to 85% in seconds, and then 100%. I try to unplug it and it seemed fine. I left it on without the adapter for 20 minutes, the battery drain normally, to 70% (it's fine considering the battery was 2nd hand) My friend thought I should try to switch back to Vista to see if the same thing will occur. So I did, and before the Vista screen came up, the macbook blacked out. I checked the battery indicator and it's flashing one LED again!!!
So I switched back to Mac side and re-do the charging, this time it took longer to get back to +90%, I thought this is normal, 'cause I did use the battery longer on the Mac side before switching to Vista for the test.
I thought to myself, why Vista drained my battery, and then I remember the first battery that died on me was about the time I switched the PC side to Vista. Prior to that, the PC side was using XP. The second time it died it was in Vista as well. I also remember I wanted to reduce the size of my PC partition, so I trimmed off unnecessary features like hibernation by (Powercfg -h off). It saved 2G in size but it may be causing some problem to the charging circuit for the Mac-hardware??? Don't know for sure.
So I erased my Vista partition, and re-installed XP. Since then I tried both sides without adaptor, usually for 10-minutes or less, and no sudden dropped to 0% occurred since.
Everything else is working fine with my macbook, except the power features. Right now at least I can charge the battery, but I am always worried about when or IF the battery will dropped off and kill itself.
I am waiting for the replacement battery to return from APPLE, and hopefully when it returns, my Macbook will be able to recognize the DEFAULT low-charge of a new battery. I'm still not sure if my macbook is defective, and if it did killed the first battery replacement they gave me a few days ago. If it did kill a decent battery, will it kill this new replacement as well??
I know for a fact that the reason why the machine won't charge the battery is because the current of the battery has become too low for the machine to be able to charge it. If the current becomes lower, the "X" will occur suggesting that the machine doesn't even recognize it's a battery. But what I want to know is what caused the battery to drop to such a low current if I turned off the macbook during storage.
Sorry for the length of this post, but I have to be clear on all the details if I want help, I suppose. Right now my question is (1) Why is this occuring?? (2) Am I right in assuming that by removing Vista with XP, the problem will not repeat?? (3) Is it likely for any new or 2nd hand functioning battery to drop to the state of the other battery any time soon?? (4) Am I doing proper care for my Macbook, and what should I do in the future to avoid the same problem from occuring??

    gpotts,
Thanks again, here's my battery profile: (keep in mind this is the 2nd hand battery I am profiling) BTW, something happened when I was doing this message, I left the notebook on for about 20 minutes, it dropped from +90% to 48%, macbook prompted me that the battery is running low. I plugged the adaptor and it went back to +95% within minutes...
Good thing is, I haven't seen the sudden drop to 0% ever since I removed Vista, and also I am able to charge my battery everytime I try now, no more "NOT CHARGING" or "X" indication.
    Any clues??? Thanks in advance.

  • Aluminum Macbook battery drains when closed / asleep

My new macbook (aluminum, 2.4ghz) always has a drained battery when I turn it on in the morning.
I typically put my fully-charged macbook to sleep in the evening by closing the lid. I do see the pulsing light, so I assume it is asleep. However, when I open the macbook the next day, the battery is heavily drained or empty. In the latter case, I need to connect power before it will start.
Anyone else have this problem? Ideas?

I do understand that sleep mode does consume power, and consumes more power the hibernating, thats what makes this issue so illusive. The thing is that it battery is being drained excessively and at a higher rate. My previous 2.4ghz black macbook didn't even drain half as fast as the new one. I should know I was using it less then two days ago.
At any rate, I reset the SMC twice today, and actually just reset the PRAM for good measure. It could be me playing mind games with myself, but I think it helped. I put the computer in sleep mode for approximately 2 hours and it drained about 1%. I do think thats more along the lines of normal sleep mode power drainage. I will test again tonight and repost.
    Thanks for the help.

To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier.
    The model 2,1 (Late 2006 & Mid 2007) can use 3gb of 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM
    The model 3,1 (Late 2007) can use 6gb of 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM
You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.

  • Grease on Black MacBook

How do you remove oil from lotion or whatever from the keys of the black MacBook? I have tried iKlear but it doesn't work.

    Hi, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I encountered the same problem with my MacBook, for those who live in the US is easy since there is the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser that will (if damped) clean easily the stains, if you do not wish to buy that do what I do; Get a linen free piece of cloth and damp it, make sure its not to wet, and apply to the oily area then with another one (but dry) do it again to dry the zone, If your going to clean the screen remember that the piece of cloth should be barely damped and to clean it shut off the computer and remove battery, also remember to do it again with a dry one to avoid it from getting to wet.
    Hope it helps

  • Black MacBook stuck mid-Lion install

I have a Black MacBook (4,1), the early 2008 model.
It's current state is that I am mid-install of a app store provided version of Lion - it was at the restart point, and I cannot get past the spinning gear.  I let it go for hours.
It also will not work in Target Mode.  Disk utility sees nothing.  System Profiler on the host mac sees an "Unknown Volume" on the firewire bus.
I tried to boot from a number of disks: Snow Leopard, Tiger, and the original 10.5 disks that shipped with the laptop.  No dice.
I did do a key command that showed me what the startup disk is presently called - it identifies itself as the Lion Installer.  So my original Hard Drive is not even advertising itself right now.
So I am stuck.  I've run the Apple Hardware test - the extended one.  No problems found.
I've pulled the battery, held down the power button for 5 secs.  nothing.
I've tried to launch in Safe Mode.  Won't do it - it stays on the spinning gear.
I am able to launch in Single user mode, so my hope is that there are some commands that could reset my mac from whatever plagues it to at least boot it so I can extricate the data and deal with the laptop's viability secondarily.
I deeply appreciate any and all advice. Thanks very much.

  • Macbook battery doesn't recalibrate, won't finish charging.

Hi guys. I have a black macbook which I have had for almost exactly two years now. Beginning some time a week ago, I noticed that the battery would not finish charging. It will say "Calculating" or "Finishing Charge" for hours. I have left it plugged in in this state overnight and throughout the next day, and it didn't seem to finish the charge. I tried to leave the notebook on and running while the battery drained to recalibrate it, and when I plugged it back in, it hopped right back to life (rather than go through the slightly longer restart process it often does after recalibrating) and it still won't completely charge.
Coconut battery, on the other hand, seems to think that the battery is at 100% charge. It also says that the battery is charging at the bottom of the window.
Do you guys have any idea what's going on?

You may start seeing more strange behaviors, such as the computer shutting off long before the charge indicator says it should.
Will this cause harm? There is the possibility that the abrupt shutdowns would corrupt the directory on your hard drive, which would prevent the computer from booting properly.
If I was in your place, I'd continue using the computer as-is until the abrupt shutdowns start occurring or the capacity plummets. Keep your data backed up, just in case!

  • Black Macbook repairs?

I am aware that the black macbook is discontinued, but I recently had 2 of my keys pop out when gently cleaning them with a cloth (got caught under). I've been to the apple store before, and am aware it's more "self" damage other then something that would be covered like a battery failure. I got the macbook 1 year ago, just before the newer ones came out. Would they send it in and get it fixed, do they still make parts for it? Or would I be better off just buying a new Macbook. They keys I lost a while ago are gone without a trace.
    Regards

i would check with a local authorized service provider. when they switch the keyboards for the chipping issue, they are just trashed. if you can catch one before it gets tossed, you should be able to use the keys.
also, powerbookmedic.com sells the keys & I do believe they still come with the suspension underneath too. at least the one for my powerbook did soem years ago.

  • Will using an 85w charger on my 2007 Black Macbook (came with 60w) hurt it?

My macbook was made for a 60w magsafe charger, but it burned out, and I am using a spare 85w charger, made for the Macbook Pro. Will this reduce the life of the macbook, or hurt it in any other way?
    Thanks

No, it will not hurt it. I did this for my 2006 black Macbook a year or so ago. No problems whatsoever. The smarts in the battery and computer will not let the battery overcharge.
