Blackberry Caller ID?

So me and my friend both have Blackberry 9780's; exact same phones on the same network, (Rogers), with literally the exact same plans. Lets say a random person who isn't in his contact list, (nor is he blocking his number,) calls my friend... on his phone it will show that random person's number and their name. If that same person were to call me, I would only get his number to show, no name.
Am I missing something? We both have caller ID.. and oddly enough, on my iPhone 4, I have the same dilemma. I would never get a name to appear UNLESS I have the number saved as a contact. But my friend always has a name showing, regardless if he has them in his contacts or not, (of course with the exception of a private/blocked call)
Any tips / ideas would be greatly appreciated..

"Literally the exact same plans"?  Same plans, perhaps, but same add-ons?  Rogers charges $12 a month for certain add-ons such as call display, enhanced voicemail and other cool stuff.  Perhaps you don't have that add-on package and he does?
I hope that helps you.

  • CUCM 7 Blackberry call forwarding

    Hello,
I have CUCM 7. I wish to call forward to a blackberry device. When this is attempted the ISDN origin and destination cause codes are 4. This states a special information tone is to be generated. Does anyone know a solution for this ?
    Many thanks
    Stephen
Cause No. 4 - send special information tone [Q.850]
This cause indicates that the called party cannot be reached for reasons that are of a long
term nature and that the special information tone should be returned to the calling party.

    Hi, thanks for your response.
We need a SIP route pattern because the 3rd party server at the end of the SIP trunk uses SIP URI dialling when it talks back to the CallManager.
The requirements are that the call must first go over the SIP trunk to the 3rd party SIP server. If there is no response, then an alternate destination must be tried by the CallManager. This can be another SIP trunk to a second SIP server or it can be an DN internal to the CallManager.
Route groups can't be used because if a SIP trunk in configured and then assigned to a route group, the same SIP trunk can not then be referenced in a SIP route pattern.
In other words for communication to work with the 3rd party SIP server,
Step 1: The SIP trunk must be referenced directly by a route pattern.
Step 2: The SIP trunk must be referenced by a SIP route pattern.
We won't need route groups if the second destination is internal to the CallManager.
However, how do we hunt with 1 - Route pattern to SIP Trunk and then 2 - Internal DN?

  • Q10 Blackberry Calls Fail on Skype

Just put Skype on my Q10 Blackberry after setting it up on my home computer.   Home computer works fine.  When contacting others on blackberry screen goes dull and says call failed?  Same with received calls.   Contacts say their phone says "busy".   Not sure what to do.   Tried deleting app and loading a new one from Blackberry Apps.

    Dear Readers,

    - Skype version used
    - Which wireless carrier you are on
    - Please clarify: are you both attempting to call another Skype user, or a fixed line or mobile number?
    Thanks in advance.

The problem is known by Blackberry but they didn't make a little effort to solve this problem and they wonder why nobody buy Blackberry. I come from Android platform and I regret buying Blackberry: call problems(I sent it to service because the people that I was talking with couldn't hear me), jack problems (the headphones does not work; I will send it again to service). This synchronisation problem is "the drop that fills the glass". Please don't buy Blackberry any more.

  • 8330 keys non-functional

    Greetings,
I'm a new user to these Blackberry's (berries?), and I have a problem that must be corrected.
Here is how it happened.  I am a recreational cyclist, a college student and a pilot in training, and when I go cycling alone, I take my phone with me, in the event of an accident, ect.  I was told that my 8330 would be able to withstand ambient moisture, i.e. sweat, while in the jersey pocket.  Unfortunately, yesterdays ride seem to have been the killing blow, and now, not a single key works on the phone.  The mute button, camera, blackberry, call/exit, back, or trackball click, or anything on the keypad will not work at all.  The trackball works, but not the clicking function.
I have performed a hard restart by removing the battery a number of times, but this has yet to work.  I'm tempted to take a hair dryer to it, in the hopes of evaporating any moisture possibly still present.
Since my cellphone providers store is not open (it's sunday), otherwise, I will have gone there to get it looked at, what are some of my other options?
I thought about using the memory wipe process, with backing up the info on the computer with the blackberry program, but I'm to nervous to try it out.
Other suggestions?  I really need this thing to work.
    Thanks,
    SaabPilot
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Well, I put the hairdryer to it, with no avail.  I do have insurance on the phone, thank God, but this is definitely something that I'm disappointed in the BB with.  I went cycling lots of time during the summer (summer=more sweat), and my last phone functioned just fine, until I damaged the screen somehow.  For something that is used extensively by US government officials, Fortune 500 companies and other bigwigs of global industry, and tons of college students, I find it disappointing and disconcerting that such a device is ruined by the possibility of an amateur cyclists' sweat.
So is a direct replacement the only solution to this problem?  I've only had it since September of this year!
I guess I need to put it in a plastic sack from now on, and get a better holster as well.

  • My entire photo catalog is missing

So without realizing it, I messed up my file associations earlier today in Lightroom 3.2, and I can't figure out how to fix it.
Until today, I'd only been importing photos from my SD cards through Lightroom to an external drive, while saving second copies to my laptop hard drive as well.
Today I wanted to import photos from my Blackberry.  I connected it to the laptop without my external hard drive (which I forgot always needs to be connected if I'm using Lightroom)...and the photos imported straight to my computer hard drive.  A file was created  on my Blackberry called "Lightroom photos" (which is the same name as the folder for  Lightroom files on my external drive).  I saw that and deleted it from  my Blackberry, knowing it didn't belong there.  I then imported the photos again via Lightroom, onto my external  drive this time.  I backed up the catalog and closed Lightroom.
Later on, I wanted to start editing  some photos, and opened Lightroom to find all my photos associated with  Drive F (my Blackberry) instead of Drive G (my external drive).  Because  I deleted the Lightroom folder from my Blackberry, Lightroom recognizes  the device when I connect it to my computer, but none of the images.   They all have question marks next to them.  I can't view any of the  photos I previously edited as a result.
I tried to restore a  back-up catalog from last week, but none of the photos are viewable!  Am  I screwed, or is there a way to get Lightroom to associate with the  images on my external drive again (like it did earlier when it did with  the Blackberry)? And why can't I see photos when I open a back-up catalog?
It's not a big deal to reimport all the photos, but I don't want to lose all the previously edited photos.
    Thanks!

I just figured out the solution.  I right clicked on the folders associated with my Blackberry, and the menu gives me the option to "find missing folder" -- all I had to do was click on the folders on my external drive, and Lightroom moved them under that location.
    Everything is back to normal.

  • Keeping selected contacts only on the phone

I have some contacts that I want ONLY on the phone - NOT synchronized with the Outlook server - I see how to mark Outlook contacts Private and not sync them, but how do I NOT sync some of the phone contacts to Outlook?  Thanks!

Once you have done that, create the contact on your BlackBerry and set it to "private". If I recall correctly, it should not be seen by the synchronization tool.

  • ATT Network outage and 3G phone

I have been having lots of problems with the network ever since getting my phone. I am on my 3rd 3G iphone. The network went down all across the country last week and since it came back up I have not had any problems. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed better service.
When I called ATT the morning of the outage the rep told me the outage was a planned outage and the network would be back up by 11am EST. The network came up at 12 and has been working ever since. No dropped calls!
Is this just wishful thinking or did ATT fix the network problems!
I read that ATT was having the same problem with a new Blackberry called Bold. They would not release it because of the network problems.

Wishful thinking. The outage was not planned, despite what you were told by a rep (personally, I was told it was a "major problem with their data network affecting many cities") - it was a routing problem. AT&T reps don't always have accurate information. You don't have to take my word for that, AT&T admitted the problem publicly, see this linked Reuters article, for example.
Dropped calls are still occurring. Reportedly (according to statements at Apple's iPod event yesterday), v2.1 released on Friday will address that issue.

  • Camera Icon Gone!

I was managing my applications, I remove all Icon on the quick acces area or dock as they call it. When I put again the icon of camera in the dock, its disappered. Then I received a notification "array_insert invalid array index". Please help. I want my Camera Icon back!
Take Note that everytime I drag an icon to the dock area, it disappeared and I receives a notification again about array invalid.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You have to move ALL the icons there before restarting.
If the icon was lost because of  emptying out the quick launch bar then the workaround will bring the lost icons back.  Blackberry call it a workaround because they have not had the resources (or intention) to fix the original bug where they didn't code the correct array processing.
It has worked on 1526 in previous posts.
if you lost the icon some other way it may not come back, however the camera icon is a fixed icon and can't normally be deleted any other way.
Always be prepared to wipe the playbook, one day it will be necessary.

  • Unblacklisted

My Blackberry Curve 8520 was stolen...the phone was blacklisted. Has since been recovered and unblacklisted.
It was password protected..told by a Blackberry call centre to put in wrong password 10 times and it would wipe the phone clean. Now cannot get connected.."phone not allowed MM6" network is Vodacom-SA.
Have now been trying for nearly a week...Vodacare tech. says it is not a software issue.
Was originally a UK O2 phone which has been unlocked for all networks and worked for over 6mths.
    Can anyone assist. Pleeease

    Hi jules9naledi,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community.
In this case, I would advise contacting your wireless service provider again regarding the "Phone not allowed MM6" error you are receiving on your BlackBerry® Bold™ 9780 smartphone.
    Thanks.

  • BB Bold Apps wiped clean after software update HELP!

I have an app on my Blackberry called BugMe!, where you can create reminder lists, which was wiped totally clean after I updated my Bold last weekend. I had some very important lists and need to know if I can recover these. Please help!

Unfortunately DM only backs up your BB settings, core applications and RIM Add On apps (such as BB Maps, Memo Pad, Password Keeper, etc). If you used BB Swiss Army Knife or BB Master Control Program, then you can recover 3rd party apps. Some applications allow you to backup your settings to the SD card, which is very handy.

    Did you search BlackBerry World?
Try Groovy Beats or PaceMaker. (may only be available on certain models of BlackBerry).
The app in your BlackBerry called BlackBerry World, or AppWorld.
I don't know if those are available for your model, since you have listed in your profile here in the forum a model number of "My Device: 85202" of which there is no such model. Do you have a 8520 Curve model?
You will need to search and see.

  • Just unlocked Blackberry Curve 8520 with online code, now cannot make calls or send sms! PLEASE HELP!

    Hi,
I unlocked my phone about an hour ago using a legitimate unlock code from unlocks.co.uk. I entered the code and it seemed to work fine and now my network shows up as Vodafone uk (I have unlocked it from T-Mobile)
It looks as though it is unlocked and I have checked the connections - I have signal and it says I am connected to the vodafone network, however, I cannot make any calls or send texts! If I try to call a number I get the call failed signed and the failed call dial tone. I tried to send a text but it didn't work - the text now has a red X and says 'unidentified subscriber'. I know this is a fault with my phone as the people I have tried to text and call have no problems with their phones/networks.
Please somebody help me! I have no idea what to do! I contacted the unlocking company and they say if I'm sure the sim I'm inserting is active (which I am) then it is likely my phone has been blacklisted, but I dont think it has. I bought it as a pay as you go handset from Argos just a week ago and it's been working fine until then.
I put my old t-mobile sim back in and it seems to work - does this mean it hasn't been unlocked successfully or not?
    Many thanks

Do a simple reboot on the BlackBerry in this manner: With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot. A reboot in this manner is prescribed for most glitches and operating system errors, and you will lose no data on the device doing this.
Then try your Vodafone SIM again.

  • Blackberry wont send/recieve calls and texts. Net apps and BBM working fine. Not battery, signal or credit problem.

My phone wont recieve texts or send SMS or phone calls. Have tried on many peoples phones, on different networks.
Have had this phone a couple of weeks. It was working fine until yesterday, now suddently when I attemp to call it says 'failed' and when i send tects they do not send. It wont recieve calls and tects from people who have tried in the same room.
I have this sim card years and have never had a problem before.
Untill yesterday I could call, text and recieve both just fine.
My BBM, app world and internet are working.
It is not a battery problem, it is charged.
It is not a credit problem, i have both free and actual credit.
it is not signal problem, the phone shows high signal, and other people on same network are working fine.
I have looked up simular problems, and attempted the solutions. Taking the battery out and resarting the phone does not change it,  regestering the phone and sending service books did not fix the problem.
I have Blackberry Curve 8520, on Tesco pay as you go.
Any solutions? Please include instructions - i do not know how to find out what OS i am running, so if this is part of the solution please advise.

    Hi Ammasay
Phone, SMS and MMS are all services supported by your wireless provider. Considering all of these features are not working, I would recommend contacting them to find out if there is a problem with your account or their services.  BlackBerry features, such as BBM, BlackBerry App World, etc all use the BlackBerry network and thats why they are still working.
    Thanks

  • So I had pictures in an album called photo library and when i backed up my iphone to my computer, the pictures disappeared from my phone. They were pictures that had originally been transferred from my blackberry to my iphone

I had pictures that I transferred from my blackberry to my iphone and they were in an album labeled photo library. my phone needed to be replaced so I backed it up to my computer and now my photos are gone. The camera roll pictures are still there but my 800 photos from my blackberry are gone. does anyone know where i can recover them from? are they gone forever? any help would be much appreciated. thank you

I transferred my photos (I cant recall how i did) from my old blackberry to my new iphone.
    Okay.
i also imported the photos to iphoto but it was only the pictures from the last six months (camera roll).
    Okay.
I dunno if this information is useful but the photos im trying to recover were in an album called photo library and they were permanent and couldnt be edited or deleted on the iphone.
These photos were never on your Mac. iPhoto only imports from the Camera Roll. You'd have needed to use a 3rd party app to get any other photos from your phone.
