BlueJ - Terminal Window problem

I have a porgram similar to the World of Zuul game which is just text based adventure game.
When I click on a newgame() , it opens up the terminal window (it should let me click on void play first) automatically, but I cant give it any commands - it wont let me type anything in the text area.
But if I just start the game by myself afterwards it works fine.
Any Ideas of getting rid of this bug of mine?

So basically you're asking how to scroll the terminal window in BlueJ, or perhaps why it doesn't scroll?
That's a question about the product and not Java, right? So perhaps this wasn't the best place to ask it?

  • BlueJ Terminal Window

    Hi,
I am using bluej for my java assignment. I have made a controller which tests all the methods and accordingly displays the output in the terminal window.
I am however finding that only a limited amount of the output is shown in the terminal window. So basically the top section of the output is cut off. I have made no errors in my actual coding. It is something to do with the terminal window. Is there any way in which i can resolve this?
    Thanks

  • Problems : Starting up with CDE and Opening terminal window in JDS

    Hi
I installed Solaris 10 GA on the system having 2.8 GHz Dual Xeon processor with EM64T.
Installation process was fine and completed. But, I have two problems with CDE and JDS.
Firstly, in JDS, the graphical login comes up, works fine. After I login (as root or anyone), sometimes terminal window does not start up correctly. The windows for terminal apprear, but there is no display. Thus, I cannot use the terminal in JDS, while the other menus on launch panel (e.g. StarOffice) seem to work properly.
Secondly, in CDE, I can login, the hourglass pointer appears and changes to arrow pointer. But then, there are no items except only the pointer and wallpaper.
Both problems do not happen at every login time. when the problems happen, I have to reboot (in CDE/JDS) or re-login (in JDS). After some rebooting or re-login, things work fine again.
    Can everybody help me?
    Thanks

I am not Adobe staff, but I have never heard of an "online upgrade". When I purchased my CS6 upgrade  from Adobe, they sent me an email with the serial.
Who did you go through to get this upgrade?

  • Problems with Java, (i.e, compiling, etc) & Terminal Window

I am having a problem compiling my program in the Terminal Window. I am working on Java for my ICS class and the first project compiled and ran fine through Terminal Window, but when the next assignment came, it throws this error:
class file has wrong version 50.0, should be 49.0
    Here's the screen image:
    http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=6ywfbx3&s=1
I'm not sure what the problem is, is there an expert out there? Also, I think there is something wrong with my Terminal Window as I cannot change directories, run/compile program "in" the shell, for example, when I want to compile a program, I have to press "COMMANDSHIFTN" so I can run it from here(it's the "New Command" window:
    http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=879bqrd&s=1
Whereas I have seen every other Mac user in my class compile their program easily by pressing Enter "in" the shell, just like command prompt.
If I am not making myself clear please let me know, I'm trying to explain as specifically as I can.
    One more note:
When I type in the shell and press Enter, it just goes down a line like a Word document.
Here is an example, it follows in order:

  • Closing Terminal window tabs shrinks Terminal window height

Open a Terminal window, press Command-T to create a tab, and then Ctrl-D to close that new tab, the Terminal window height decreases by one row.
This most certainly appears to be a bug. How do I report this to Apple?

I am also experiencing this problem, however if you use the Basic setting the problem doesn't exist.
I am using Novel and I have the problem. It's quite annoying.
I noticed that if you set the fontsize to 12 then this problem exhibits, however if I change the size to 11pt or 10pt (10 is the default for Basic, 12 is default for Novel) then I don't have the bug.

  • 'Run' terminal window not closing

I have an Java application which I have created an installation package for using InstallAnywhere.
On Solaris when launching the application using the alias from a terminal window it works fine. But, when I launch the application from the File Manager, by double-clicking, it creates an 'extra' terminal window called 'Run', this terminal window doesn't terminate when I exit my application.
How can I prevent this, can I prevent the 'Run' window from starting using some sort of setting, or can I somehow make sure it is closed togheter with the application?
On Linux (SuSE10) the OS asks how I would like to run my application so I don't have the same problem there.

  • Terminal window blinking cursor will not accept keyboard entry

    Have SunBlade100 w/ Solaris8.
This is probably a dumb beginner question...
When I enter certain commands at the terminal window - in this particular case
    # cat /dev/cua/a
and I hit <return> the cursor skips to the next line, and
continues blinking , and will not accept any keyboard entries.
    1. What is the significance of this? Is the cursor waiting further action, and if so, what?
    2. How do I get back to the prompt?
    3. Under this condition, is it safe to exit the terminal window by closing from the Window menu? (I can't type "exit" because the cursor won't accept keyboard entries, and Help for "closing the terminal" warns against closing from the Window menu because any background processes will not be terminated (and this may cause problems).
Thanks in advance for any info on this.

Thanks again for the info. <control>+C was exactly what I was looking for. It's coming back to me now-- the last time I had contact w/ UNIX was back in '85 at UC Berkeley (no GUI's back then!).
I'm assuming that <control>+C is a graceful (i.e. relatively harmless way to exit the command.

  • Closing active terminal window with applescript

I made a very basic script to lock my screen, and I like how it works. Some of my co-workers would also like it but it has one problem.
When the script runs, a terminal box pops up at the end saying [process complete]. I can click through this and I don't care, they do.
I can't just killall terminal because we use terminal and that could kill our work.
We sometimes need to see output from a script and like the process complete, so don't want to reconfigure our systems to never display it.
I'm trying to find a way to use applescript or something to kill the active terminal window, or the window with the title of LockScreen or something.
    Anyone have an idea?
I was hoping something like this would exist but it doesn't seem to: tell application "Terminal" to close window

Here is an easy approach.  Start Applications -> Automator
    Select Application
In Automator search for "Start Screen Saver".  This should be under Library->Utilities
Drag "Start Screen Saver" to the right side panel.
    Save the Automator app.
If the user has System Preferencs -> Security -> Require Password ... set, then one the screen saver has started running, it will require the user to enter their password before getting control back.
This Automator app can be double clicked, it will not require the terminal.
With respect to your script.  If this is a shell script, AND if you wish to continue using it, then you could create an Automator app that uses "Run Shell Script" under Automator Library->Utilities.  This will also NOT require the use of Terminal, however, be aware that when Automator runs a shell script it DOES NOT have the same environment as when you are running a shell script at your Terminal prompt.  There are very few environment variables set, and for example the USER, HOME, current working directory, PATH, etc... may not be the same.  If you have dependencies on specific environment information, you may want to write a simple automator script the using "Run Shell Script" to output various environment information into a file so you can see what you have to work with
    (id -a
    pwd
    echo "$#"
    echo "$@"
    printenv
    ) >/tmp/automator.environment.txt

  • Terminal window always opening at start-up?

My apologies if this is not the most appropriate place to post my questions.
Recently, I've been getting frequent messages that my start up disk is almost full. I've emptied the trash and will soon be burning some of my iPhoto albums onto disk. I'm very hopeful that will help. (Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.)
However, the bigger reason for my post is that the terminal window has started opening automatically every time I start up.
This is what the window says:

  • DVD no more and Terminal window woes?

    Two issues here:
    #1
Today I updated my OSX 10.3.9 with the very latest updates. (I bought iLife '05 and the instructions recommended this). After this update I can no longer mount any DVD discs [data, (not even iLife '05 install) movie's, etc.] DVD's do not appear on the desktop, the Finder side bar, or in the Disk Utility window. CD's work fine though. For the last couple month's, (actually since moving up to 10.3.9) movie DVD's have been problematic ... frequently needing force quits of DVD Player, restarting with the DVD inserted to force it to mount, etc. Today's update has killed it altogether.
    #2
After doing everything imaginable (repair permissions, dump caches, zap pram, etc.), I went to the terminal to update prebinding as a last ditch effort to find a solution, but now the terminal window apppears as only the very top left corner of the window with just a close button and enough room to double click it to minimize it into the dock. I cannot expand the window to see anything. I've again repaired permissions, dumped cache files, run MacJanitor, zapped the pram, you name it.
    Summary:
Now I've lost DVD capability (and hence cannot boot from my old 10.3.3 install disc because it's on DVD) and my termial is non accessible.
    The plea:
    "Help, I've updated ... and I can't get up!"
    Help would be so appreciated!
    G4 MDD Dual 1.25ghz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Thanks for the help!
The font issue sounds likely since I also recently went through all of my fonts with Font Doctor and reorganized everything with FontAgent Pro. I thought I had left system fonts untouched but maybe something happened inadvertantly. I'll check it out.
Regarding the DVD, I tried, as you suggested, restarting w/ option key and the OSX 10.3.3 DVD did not show up. I'm wondering though, CD's (both data and audio) mount just fine. It seems if there were truly a hardware issue, CD's would not mount either. Thoughts on this? (I'd just hate to buy a new DVD drive if it's is not the real problem.)
Thanks again and happy New Year!

  • Multiple terminal windows on multiple views in Subtle WM?

Apologies if this has already been answered somewhere, but I couldn't find it.
I'm using the Subtle WM, and I really love it's use of gravities and tags to position windows. The only problem I've run into is when I have multiple copies of the same program/window open, and want them placed on different views.
If I have urxvt tagged to go to a particular view, then all of my urxvt terminal windows will open on that view. But I often like to have terminals open on different views for different purposes, depending on what I'm doing in that view.
I tried tagging urxvt on multiple views, but that didn't work. Is there a way to accomplish this in Subtle?

I've never used subtle, but I suspect it identifies client windows (for putting them on selected tags) by their resource name/class.  You can easily set these when you start urxvt (e.g. with the -name flag) so you can have different resource names for different urxvt windows.

  • New terminal windows from inside a terminal window?

So, I have some work to do that will require me to make multiple ssh connections to the same host. Likewise with scp, sometimes.
My thought is to use ssh-agent to enter my password once, and subsequent connections to the host will be automatic.
However, in order to do that, I need to be able to cleanly tell Terminal to spawn new windows as children of the current window. Working through /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app/etc. works, but doesn't strike me as very elegant.
Did Apple incorporate an "xterm"-like shell command that spawns a child window from whatever terminal window you happen to be in?
    Thanks!

  • Leopard Terminal.app problem

    I have two issues.
In Tiger Terminal, it is possible to select text and drag and drop on the current command line. Is this possible in Leopard Terminal.
Also, I am in the habit of drag and dropping filenames from Finder into Terminal windows. When I do this in Terminal, it looses track of the cursor location. e.g. I create a new folder "untitled folder" and drag it to Terminal, do Ctrl-A to go the the start of the line and type cd, Terminal displays
    /Usecd rs/pheon/Desktop/untitled\ folder
I hit return and I cd to untitled\ folder. No real problem apart from being ugly and difficult.
    Any solutions?

  • Opening a new terminal window always launches X11

I did an update from Tiger to Leopard yesterday and while most things are fine, I have a peculiar problem, that every time I open terminal, it automatically launches X11 (the terminal window shows xset as the running application in the title bar). Annoyingly, the focus switches to X11 when it starts, too. I can quit X11, but opening a new window or tab in terminal will launch it again.
    Sequence of events:
    1. Machine had X11 installed under Tiger.
    2. Ran the Leopard update without installing the dev tools package (so as far as I understand, a new X11 wasn't installed during the process). At this point, the problem was present
    3. Installed dev tools - problem persists.
    4. Ran update to 10.5.2.
    5. Got the x11 2.1.4 package from here (http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/xquartz/wiki/X112.1.4) and ran the installer.
But I still have the problem. (In case you're wondering, there's no startup command specified in the Terminal settings, either. It should just start up running bash). Any ideas?

    jsiehler wrote:
Yes, thanks - sorry I misremembered where the X11 install came from originally. Anyway, what's in my .profile is the command to run fink's /sw/bin/init.sh, which was adding the old X11 directory to my PATH variable. I still don't know why exactly that was making x11 launch every time I opened a terminal window, but I do have it fixed now.
As an aside, you will probably have to uninstall Fink and install the source and build another one. Last I looked there was no binary for Leopard. If you have Tiger version of Xcode Tools, you will also have to remove that, using the supplied script and install the new, Leopard-friendly 3.0.
Also, if you were using Darwin, that too is finito.
