Bluetooth & SPP

While reading the JSR 82, I understand that a Bluetooth device MAY support one or more profiles.
The four generic profiles are described as the Generic Access Profile (GAP), the Serial Port Profile (SPP), the Service Discovery Application profile (SDAP), and the Generic Object Exchange Profile (GOEP).
Thanks to bluetooth API we can discover devices and checks wether it supports SPP ... ok ...
But it is never written in any phones spec or in any vendor manual that a mobile does support the SPP profile. Is it obvious that all Java phones JSR-82 compliant support the SPP profile or is there - somewhere - a list or a way to find phones that are SPP compliant ?
Regards.

I'm ok for checking if services are supported by distant devices (you're right jsr82.com as good samples on this topic).
I already made a PoC which uses the SPP on a phone and connects to a PC which replies... it works fine but I want to be able to give a compatibility list.
You say "A phone with JSR-82 compatible will support the SPP", but I can't find anything about that in the JSR (in fact I found nothing at all on the web), can you give me a clue to find it ?
Thanks for reply

  • Does Palm Pre Support Bluetooth SPP Profile?

I am a developer for a software company.  I write all the application software mainly for Windows Mobile to control our hardware in the field using Bluetooth SPP Profile, or Serial Port over Bluetooth.  Some clients have asked if they can use their Palm Pre phones to control our hardware.
    Does Palm Pre support SPP?
    Post relates to: Palm IIIc

At this itme the PRE does not support the SPP profile.
    These are the profiles currently enabled on the PRE;
HSP 1.1, HFP 1.5, PBA, A2DP, AVRC, PAN
    version 2.1+EDR

  • Bluetooth SPP not shown

    Hi,
a while ago I bought a Nokia 3250 phone and in the manual it says that it supports SPP next to a list of other services. When I try to enable it in the Bluetooth options, though, it only displays DUN.
A friend of mine was suggesting that Windows is the problem and I should switch to Linux as I really need to get this going because this project is part of my graduation. If anyone has experience please advise me whether it could help or not
    Thanks in advance!

I want to write a little app on the phone that initiates a connection to the previously paired PC and communicate with Hyperterminal through a serial port. In the end I want the phone to send a string to the PC which is then printed in Hyperterminal.
The project was originally to connect to a BT relay, but as they cost quite something I wanted to simulate a BT relay, using the PC instead of the relay. The relays are mostly controlled the same way, by sending a string with a special command to the controller. The message doesn't matter, so I just want it to send "start" and "stop" to the PC, which then proves the success by printing it out. The phone doesn't even need any confirmation, just this one sting needs to be printed.
The problem now is that I can't initiate a connection from the phone and/or stay connected with the computer so that I could figure out a way to connect to the COM port. I was searching for the cause and found that the only service advertised is DUN. I thought this could be one of the problems behind it.
What made me wonder was that in all the websites that describe how the phone installs it says that in the end it should show 2 COM ports which should be noted for further use later on. With me it never showed them.
I also tried connecting with another system, Vista instead of XP. What really surprised me is that it shows about six services all dependent of SPP, but not SPP itself. So I was wondering if perhaps the system just can't handle it. Maybe Linux can help...?
I'm also going to get a new Bluetooth dongle to test whether the one I'm using at the moment is faulty.
So yeah. I'm stuck with not being able to connect to the PC without initiating it first from the PC and not being able to connect to the COM port.
Thanks a lot for your answer! Hopefully we can work it out

  • Acquiring from bluetooth spp and draw signal

    Dear Sir:
    I'm using labview 8.5
How can I use bluetooth vis to draw ecg signals coming from adc and sended to bluetooth module(as server) , and draw it??
I've saw bluetooth client examples but I still need help
    thanks for help
    Sajed

    Hi,
We have a similar problem. We're trying to visualize an ECG signal using a Bluetooth connection and LabView 8.
The Bluetooth module we are using is a Parani ESD-200, and it works using the Serial Port Profile (SPP); we also have a MSI Bluetooth dongle which allow us to create a Virtual Comm and connect the Laptop and the ECG.
We are using VISA to write and read from the virtual port; we don't have any problem with the reading, we configure and open the port and read the input data, but when we try to write, LabView doesn't recognize the port.
The funny thing is that the data we try to send with LabView IS sent to the port, we know that because we programmed the DSP to turn on a led when it recibes any data in the input buffer...
So, we don't know why LabView gives us that error, we'll be very thankful if anybody can help us...
P.D. The error LabView gives is:
VISA:  (Hex 0xBFFF003E) Could not perform operation because of I/O error.

  • Bluetooth SPP ; listening on a specific channel

    Hello guys,
I've to create a midlet which listens for rfcomm on a specific channel.
Do you have any idea on how this would be possible ?
I think that it isn't, as the channel allocation is "dynamic", and that it should be different on each phones as it may depends on available services, but never know...
    Thanks,
    Julien

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region.

  • How can I capture ASCII via Bluetooth?

I want to be able to connect an old Bluetooth device that does not support files or file browsing, just plain upload or download streams (mostly ASCII text).  On the PC there is a data capture program which receives the ASCII on a COM port via Bluetooth, but I seem to be stumbling to get this to work in VMWare because it shares the Bluetooth with my iMac, VMWare and Mac OS X both say that it is connected but the device doesn't agree (I have confirmed it does work on a real PC in the same edition of Windows), I am looking for a Mac OS X program to do the ASCII capture instead and any help in troubleshooting the connection.
The program should be fairly simple - just capture a stream of ASCII data to a text window or file.  All that I can find on Mac OS X is file upload or download, but that is not supported by this device.
One thought - could it be that it is the iMac Bluetooth that is not supporting the device?  It works fine with a Belkin USB Bluetooth dongle on a PC, but I don't know if that provides the same services as the iMac Bluetooth.
    Thanks muchly.
EDIT: Plugging in the Belkin USB Bluetooth dongle to the iMac just chucks everything off Bluetooth, so that's keyboard and mouse / trackpad, which makes the iMac unusable.  Unplugging the dongle makes them reconnect.  Can't say that I'm particularly impressed by this - why can't Mac OS handle two separate Bluetooth hosts?

Apparently nobody here knows (or cares?) about Bluetooth SPP.
I have worked around the problem by using the devices serial port instead, I built an RS232 serial cable and acquired a serial - USB dongle, downloaded the drivers (which are current and available for all platforms, thankfully) so now I am able to communicate with my device successfully in Windows running in VMWare Fusions.
I don't expect to find any native Mac OS software that will capture from a COM port, even though that method of communication is technically still supported in the OS (I think, otherwise why would the serial - USB driver exist for Mac OS X?)  Would like to have been able to do this without relying on Windows, that's all.
This has solved my problem for this device.

  • Samsung Photo Printer 2020B BT error

I have bought a very nice Samsung dye sub photo printer with bluetooth (SPP-2020B)
When I try to add the printer via the BT setup assistant, adding the printer fails.
First I have chossen the 'empty passkey' and 'no passkey' options. The setup assistant does find the printer but I get the message 'Configuration failed. An appropriate driver for that printer could not be located'.
The funny thing is that the printer works flawless via USB. What also works is sending a FILE to the printer. When I send a JPEG, the printer starts printing.
Via this method, there are of course no print options and is hardly usefull.
Who can advise me on how to get the thing to work the way it should be.
I do not know if this is important, but the BT printserver uses the OPP protocol.
    Thank you for your help.

I am also having this problem printing to a CLP-510n from Camino... though I can print to PDF and then print the PDF successfully. Does that work on yours?

  • How to be signed my MIDP application?

I am new in symbian MIDP programming, I have a test MIDlet that would receive or listen incoming SMS and send it through bluetooth SPP(the PC serial port terminal as the receiver), it only receives SMS sent from another MIDlet that sends SMS of the same port number "sms://:5000". But if i set the port number to "sms://:0" in order to receive all incoming SMS to the inbox as I have done it succesfuly in Blackberry smartphone..., it does not work here in Nokia N95 8GB, until i have read somewhere that it may not work concerning security issues in Symbian OS, I believe that it may work if I my application will be signed as "trusted".
Anyone can help me if this my belief is true or please give me some light on this security issues and or how to be signed "trusted" and who what group would sign my application. Please...

Don't double post. I've removed the other thread you started with the same question about reading the SMS inbox on a Nokia N95.

  • Internet via BT with N73?

Is it possible to access a computer via BT with the N73 and surf via the computers broadband?

No... Not direct, like on N-Gage or 6600. N73 doesn´t have Bluetooth SPP, like the two others. The only way, but a skill way to configure is with Gnubox project (google for it). I can´t, but some others said that they can!

  • Why iPhone is not supporting SPP in Bluetooth?

    Hi,
I wanted to interface bluetooth device with iPhone using SPP profile(because i need to have some user defined command interfaces) basically i am a bluetooth application developer and i wanted to communicate with iPhone using user defined command interface (mobile app). I have implemented with android mobiles. but now i wanted to know weather i Phone supports SPP profile or any other mechanisms or profile are available to interface with iphone?
    Please guide me on this...
    Thank you
    Regards,
    Gopal

A SIM card cannot store the wealth of contact information an iPhone can hold internally. Therefore you would lose a significant amount of contact data trying to copy it to the SIM. Presumably Apple doesn't want people losing their contact data thinking it is copied to the SIM when it isn't.

MFi program will continue to support SPP profile or i need to rewrit, to make my device support "iOS support bluetooth profiles"

I expected this to be released quite earlier. But now that it's in process, I'll wait patiently.

  • Mac see the 'Route66' bluetooth tracker, but did'nt connect via SPP ?

    Hi
my bluetooth GPS mouse/Tracker type Route66 GPS Bluetooth with SIRF III chipset did'nt connect with the MacBook Pro SnowLeopard 10.6.8 (latest updated incl.). As i see at the OS X website there is the 'SPP' protocol which is also used by the mouse/tracker.
Within the bluetooth configuration the device is seen as 'BlueGPS 7D622A' but is not connected. Thats my problem. Further parameters are
    Service/Dienste = Serial Port (SPP ?),
    connection installed = Yes
    configured = yes
    favorite = yes
    Connected = NO
    device uppergrpoup = undefined (0x1f)
    device lowergroup = undefined (0x0)
So, the Mac see the device, but did'nt connect with it.
Are there any ideas where i'm wrong ? and whats to do ?
Thanks in advance for any help
