Bookmarks Disappear After Import

I just set up a new user (1st time having done so) on my 2010 iMac running OS 10.9.5 with Safari 7.1. I imported bookmarks from the Windows XP version of Firefox into Safari and all seemed to be fine. The bookmarks worked every time without a problem. I then closed Safari and reopened it only to find all the imported bookmarks have disappeared. I tried reimporting three times and it happened each time. I also installed the Add to Amazon Wish List extension and, that too, disappeared each time.
Also, it will not maintain a Homepage. That disappears as well.
Why is this happening and how do I correct the situation? Your help is most appreciated. Thanks!

Based on a few replies in another forum there apparently is no reason why the bookmarks should be disappearing, but they still are.
In an attempt to solve this problem, I just tried giving my wife's user account admin privileges, restarted the computer, opened Safari, imported the bookmarks, closed Safari, reopened Safari and, yet again, the bookmarks disappeared.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Bookmarks disappeared after a recreated PDF

I recreated a PDF print from a PDF file that I made with acrobat Pro but all my bookmarks disappeared. Any suggestions. Thanks

    Hi,
I would like to inform you that if you create a "PDF Print", You will lose any "meta" data in the file, like fields, links, bookmarks, annotations, etc.
You may use "Convert to PDF" and set the conversion options to create bookmarks and select the items to use for creating bookmarks.

  • Bookmarks disappear after file save in Acrobat Pro 9

I recently bought Acrobat Pro 9 and have run into a problem with creating, editing and saving bookmarks. (I use InDesign CS2 to create most of my PDFs.)
On only one occasion could I create bookmarks in a normal manner, i.e., selecting pages to bookmark, creating a bookmark using the keyboard <Command B> and entering text into its label. I got through the entire list of bookmarks and saved the file.
When I reopened it, all but one had disappeared. This has happened most of the time.
But there is an additional wrinkle. Except for that one “normal” occasion, what usually happens is that whenever I create a bookmark (by whichever method), my ability to enter text into the label is so short that the only way I can accomplish it is to prepare a list of label contents in a word processor and copy/paste each line into each created bookmark. And I do have to be quick about it. Acrobat will keep generating functional bookmarks as you go along, but when they're all “Untitled” and you can't get get in there to do any real edits, there isn't any point to having bookmarks. (I'm a fast typist.) Invoking TouchUp Text at first gave me a small reprieve, but since then it hasn't helped at all.
When I save the document and close it, on reopening I find again that all the bookmarks have disappeared. Conclusion: they didn't really get saved in the first place.
    Previously I used Acrobat 5.

I see that this is a very old thread. I'm using Acrobat Pro 9.3.2 on OS 10.6.6 and seeing something similar. No real solution, but I thought I'd add a data point and my workaround.
It seems as though SOME, but not ALL, of my bookmarks are "taking." Right now, whenever I add a bookmark AFTER what's probably the first bookmark created in the document, it MIGHT stick around after a save. When I add a bookmark BEFORE that bookmark (as in "it's positioned higher on the list in the sidebar"), it doesn't save. I ended up moving the "good" bookmark to the front of the list, and then adding additional bookmarks after it. These all stuck around after a save.
Because of bugs like this, I'm using Preview in every case possible. Acrobat does more, but it sucks at the basics things you'd expect to work flawlessly. Oh well!

  • Bookmark disappears after update

When I update my blog, the bookmark in Firefox disappears. When I bookmark it again, after the update, instead of my blog popping up, there's a window for Nextag. This does not happen in Safari. Is this an evil conspiracy between Nextag & Firefox? Do they seek total world domination, or am I simply doing something wrong?
    I'm using iWeb & Fetch.

  • Image in the pdf disappears after importing the pdf in adobe lcd

    1. We are generating certain pdf's from pdf lib (These pdf are also having image ). But, when we open the same pdf in Adobe LCD, the image      disappears.Instead of that, we see an empty box.
    2. When we import any pdf (having image )into Adobe LiveCycle designer, the image object is there, but there is no image in it. i.e image data is not there.
Need help to resolve this issue. Kindly assist ASAP .

Embed image is done on Object>>Draw tab to make it visible use Shift+F7 if it is not visible already.
    >>[Gaurav] is it at time of PDF generation ? If so, why are we not able to see image for any other general PDF ?
at original design time the image object may have been defined as imageField item rather than just image item.
As I specified in my previous response it is ok to reassign the images as you intend to make some changes to the forms any way. Though it is additional task it works for your situation.
If you think it is ok to forward copy of PDF you have trouble with I can check the behavior on my machine.....you can forward me at n_varma(AT)lycos.com

  • Report instances disappearing after import

    Hi,
we are trying to import a Deski report from XI R2 to XI 3.1 that has 58 historical instances as well as 1 recurring instance.
The Import Wizard reports a successful import and then the report is viewable in the folders of the CMC in the 3.1 system.
However once the instance list for the report has been viewed once to check the 58 instances are there, then closed again, the instances disappear and cannot be viewed again.
There are no instance limits set on the folder where the rpeort has been imorted to. The installation of 3.1 is brand new (installed at SP3 level) and there are no other reports in the system.
    thanks

Not sure if I understand correctly. Is there a specific file called "envelope index" located here: home directory/library/mail?
yes, that's exactly it. home directory means you home directory. i figured that was clear. you can get to it by clicking on the house iocon in the sidebar of any finder window. alternatively you can get to it from the top level of the drive by going to /Users/yourusername.
What exactly is that? And by deleting that, will any emails be lost?
    no.
Once it's deleted, how does one rebuild the entire mail index? Simply click "Rebuild"? When I did that last night, it only rebuilt the selected mailbox.
no. you just start Mail. it will ask to import your messages . say yes. this will rebuild the whole index.
Also, my old hard drive has my full archive of emails, but since I installed I have about 50 new emails that I do not want to lose. If something goes awry, I can revert to the old archive of emails from the hard drive, but I'd lose the new ones.
    you won't loose anything.
Any suggestions on how to avoid that possibility?
    Thanks.

  • Bookmarks disappearing after quitting Safari

I'm a long time Apple user since 1987. I've never had a serious problem with any Mac but now have a problem I can't solve. I did search the forum for similar threads but none seemed to be the exact bookmark problem I am having. For the last 3 days, whenever I close Safari and reopen it later, all my bookmarks are gone. I dutifully find as many of my favorite sites as possible and bookmark them again, only to find they have disappeared once I close the browser. The history is cleared also. I'm using Safari Version 2.0.4 (419.3) Mac OS X version 10.4.7, Dual 2.7 GGZ Power PC G5.
In case this may be related, I have been having similar problems with the Mac mail program and have had to add my username, server info, etc. as if I have never used the mail program before also.
Back in the olden days, trashing the preferences on my old Mozilla browser took care of any problems but I'm not sure if that would be something I should do on Safari. Is there a newer version of Safari that I could download that might not be so buggy? I'm just at a loss of what to do.
I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks for any and all ideas.
    Pat

I am having the very same problem with Safari. The only bookimarks Safari shows, are history for the last day I used it. Which means no0ne of them survive a restart. I haven't been able to match it to any other Safari posts. An answer for you will be an answer for me.

  • My bookmarks disappeared and can't be restored or imported

Perhaps two days ago, some of my bookmarks disappeared, so I decided to revert them a few days earlier to get the missing ones back. Instead of recovering the missing ones, ALL of the bookmarks disappeared and cannot be restored now. I tried resetting Firefox and running in safe mode, and none of those tricks worked. I then went to another computer that had a synced copy of the bookmarks, exported them as HTML and sent them to the sick computer, where they STILL cannot be imported, though I can open the HTML file and access the links that way. The sick computer thinks it has the links to the old bookmarks, and everything I checked seems to be okay, but it is obviously hideously broken...
Windows 7, 64-bit, running on a Toshiba notebook. My various other computers are so far unaffected, but it might be contagious for all I know...
Since this is not the sick computer, I'm not going to add the troubleshooting information at this time, but I'll try to add it when I get back to that machine.

    Try this:
*disable from Sync if you are using it
*go to the Firefox profile folder and delete the places.sqlite file.
This will make Firefox use a JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder, so you may want to move those backups out of that folder if you aren't sure which backup is healthy.
Note that the xxxx part in the file name designates the number of bookmark in the file, $$$$ is a hash to avoid creating unnecessary backups with the same content.
    *bookmarks-####-##-##_xxxx_$$$$.json

  • Contacts will disappear after bulk vCard import

    Hi all,
After bulk importing multiple 700 vCard contacts to the Address Book application (Version 8.0 - 1371) on Mac OX Mavericks, they disappear after closing and reopening the application, just showing the original 7 iCloud contacts I previously created.
    Facts:
I am trying to import (by drag & drop) 700 vCards 2.1 - windows latin 1 (already selected this format in the Address Book Settings), created with Outlook 2002.
Address Book is connected to iCloud
    Already tried, unsuccessfully:
Merging previously all vCard into a single one.
Doing the import after disconnecting iCloud, merging the contacts, reactivating iCloud.
Doing the import after disconnecting WiFi and LAN, merging the contacts (even without reactivating them afterwards).
Creating a new contact after the import before closing the application.
    The previous 3 combined.
Importing the merged vCard directly on iCloud (getting Error though the file doesn't exceed the limitations)
In any case is that after closing the application the imported contact not be there any more: only the 7 iCloud contacts (or the "on this mac" if iCloud deactivated) will remain in the Agenda. I do not think it has to do with iCloud.
I the only clue I have, is that importing the vCards one by one, or in small groups (>10), they "may" remain recorded in the Address Book.
Does anyone have an idea or workaround to make this bulk import of vCard contacts?
    Thanks,

So I had to do it manually... in blocks of 5-15 to see the conflicting vCards, that would not be recorded (and hence not automatically synchronized with iCloud).
Out of the 712 contacts, 8 were not recognized by the Adressbook.
No idea why, because the other 704 vCards were in the same format (v2.1) and codification (Windows latin 1), and where having also special characters in the .vcf filename or in the data inside.
I think there is a codification/import issue that Apple should check.

  • Why does bookmarks disappear in menu bar after shutting down?, Why does bookmarks disappear in menu bar after shutting down?, Why does bookmarks disappear in menu bar after shutting down?

Why does bookmarks in menu bar disappear after shutting down and turning mac on?

When I am in "COLLECTIONS AND BOOKMARKS" view, I changed the name of the folder that is listed under "bookmarks" (that is designed to be a drop-down menu on the Bookmark Bar), I changed the name to "TV 1" from "TV Shows". I also added another folder under the Bookmarks called "TV 2" and I dragged and dropped two bookmarks from the "Bookmarks Menu" listing to the "TV 2" folder, and yet Safari would not update in real-time the Bookmark Bar to recognize that I created a "TV 2" folder/drop-down menu, nor did it update the contents of "TV Shows" to become "TV 1".
The only way I was able to update the drop-down menu bookmark folders on the Bookmark Bar was to drag-and-drop them one at a time from the "COLLECTIONS and BOOKMARKS" view.
Is it just me or is this a ******** way of updating bookmarks?
I think it is perfectly fine as being ONE WAY of updating bookmarks, but there really should be "real-time" updating of bookmarks. That is to say, I should be able to choose "bookmark this page" and add it to the folder named "TV Shows" and automatically see Safari update it without having to make two steps: 1) choosing the bookmark, and 2) going into the list of bookmarks to manually drag and drop the bookmark into the Bookmark Bar that contains the folder/drop-down menu.

    Hi endless121,
You should take a look at [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/latest-firefox-issues this article] that discusses some of the issues with the latest build of Firefox.
There is some information in there that should help you to resolve your issue. Luckily, it is a very easy fix.

  • IPhoto 7.1.5 - Disappearing Photos After Import of New Photos

This is a revisit of an earlier problem that has been addressed in several discussions. The problem is reproducible.
Background: Running 10.6.7 and iPhoto 7.1.5
I have a 14 GB Photo Library with > 10 thousand photographs. After importing another 100 photos, iPhoto AGAIN showed ONLY the latest event photos. Closing iPhoto and reopening iPhoto shows all of the events for ~1 sec and then "poof" the photo library says that there are 0 photos. I have followed the instructions in numerous discussions including my earlier post. Nothing works permanently.
SUMMARY: Repeated rebuilds of the photo library with iPhoto Library Manager (iPLM) bring the events/photos back until the next photo import. Then I am back where I started.
    I have done the following:
    1. Booted on the startup CD and checked and repaired all disk permissions (many) and other disk errors (none).
    2. Made a backup of the photo library.
    3. Rebuild photo library in iPhoto.  No joy. This NEVER helps anything.
    4. Deleted pLists and opened iPhoto. No help.
    5. Ran BatChmod to check on all of the permissions to RW. No permission problems are seen now.
    6. Ran iPhoto Library Manager and confirmed permissions set there are OK. It is important to make sure that the permissions are  set correctly to RW in iPLM.
    7. Ran iPLM and I can access ALL of the events and photos. (This is where the last discussion ended.)
    8. Imported more photos from my iPhone and  “poof” no more photos seen in iPhoto. I Go back to step 7 and wait 1.5 hours for a rebuild in iPLM.
Any further suggestions would be helpful. This is occurring after EVERY import of new photos. As long as I do not import more photos I can access all events and photos.

    Tony:
It could be that the card has been compromised and iPhoto doesn't recognize it. Open Image Capture and see if you can upload the photos to a folder on the desktop. If that can be done reformat the card with the camera, take a couple of test shots and try again.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
