Bootcamp Performance Compared to 'real' Windows Install?

I am considering buying a Mac but want to continue using Windows mainly for games and to use my existing Photoshop licence.
Can someone tell me if the bootcamp performance of Windows is as good as a 'real' Windows install - especially from a graphical point of view?

Now that is something to compare against.
It depnds on game somewhat, too, right?
The Core i7 has more headroom and bandwidth to drive today's graphics.
The iMac is still dual-core and not sure but it was last year's Penryn based processor and not Bloomfield (i7) Nehalem - yet.
Now though you can look through some game benchmarks and scores, and see though I think your 8800GTS still holds its own. And that I would wait for a refresh of the iMac line. We know Intel has Lynnfield and 32nm Nehalem on tap for this fall/winter.
You can get an idea where GT1xx graphics fall into the Nehalem tests, my guess is down-grade from your GTS8800.

I'd want W7 64-bit, and it is possible but Apple has never officially supported 64-bit Vista on iMac surprisingly, and therefore the chipset drivers install but an extra step or two.
For reference, Mac Pro 3D gaming performance graphics

  • Will my Bootcamp Windows Install Remain after SSD Install

I currently have a i5 Mac Mini 5.1 with the standard 500gb hard drive installed. Presently the drive is split as 340gb for OSX and 160gb for Windows 8.1 running under Bootcamp. My plan is to install a 250gb SSD in addition to the original 500gb HDD onto which I will clone over my current OSX install, then format the 340gb partition onto which I will then move over my home folder and files whilst keeping the SSD for OSX and applications for optimum performance. My plan is to leave the Bootcamp partition as it is.
My question is will the 160gb Windows 8.1 Bootcamp partition still work or will I have to wipe that partition and start again by re-bootcamping my mac?
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.
    John

    Hi Bobthefisherman
Thanks for the reply. That's a real pain having to have them on the same drive as I was hoping to keep the SSD purely for OSX and its applications.
    Thanks

  • Install BootCamp update 4.0 on Windows 7 x64 returns error

    Hello,
I have a problem updating BootCamp software on Windows. Updating from 3.2 to 3.3 or 4.0, from ASU or from manual installation, returns this:
    https:// picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/-w77Vf1cQrlarNb_LUz7fNct5nxxnOU3qWXwGpPvXwI?feat=directlink (spanish)
Basically, it says that I'm using a network resource that is not available, and tell me to pick a "BootCamp64.msi" file
If I set the file, it returns this:
    https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/_tqfhSNKK1wBmojjR7kWy9ct5nxxnOU3qWXwGpPvXwI?feat=directlink (spanish)
It says the file set is not valid msi for installing Boot Camp Services, and tell me to find a file called "BootCamp64.msi" on a folder ready to install Boot Camp Services
This for 3.3 and 4.0 versions.
    In the log, it says...:
Info: Found Boot Camp x64 version 3.2
Info: BootCampUI failed to install 64 bit Boot Camp patch. The install returned 1603
Info: BootCampUI is exiting. The install returned 1
I know how to manually install the drivers, but what I want is update bootcamp.

This problem appeared from the first day I installed Windows 7.
I also have a log file from de msi generated with the command "/l*v c:\log.txt",it doesn't make me happy to make it public, but I've attached.

  • HT3986 How do I right click on Windows installed using Bootcamp?

How do I right click on Windows installed using Bootcamp?

It should work the same way it does in OSX, but for it to work correctly, you need to install the Boot Camp drivers in Windows. You can do this by using the Boot Camp Assistant in OSX, then creating the "Windows support software (drivers)" package. Follow the instructions there, then use the resulting thumbdrive to install the drivers and apps into Windows. Then you should be able to two-finger-click the touchpad or right-click your mighty mouse or other two-button-enabled mouse.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4407 for more info on this.
Caveat: I've done this, and I've found that the two-finger-click in Windows is iffy. That is, it frequently triggers a left-click function instead of right-click. :-/

  • Bootcamp - Windows install error

I'm trying to install Windows 8 on my iMac using bootcamp.  Everything seems to be going fine until I format the bootcamp partition.  Then, the Windows installer gives me the error "cannot create or locate partition, see setup logs for details."  Any suggestions?

So according to the FAQ, a thunderbolt device can cause this error.  I don't have any thunderbolt devices.  On a whim I unplugged my external drive and the installation went through with no problems.

  • HT3986 can bootcamp be used with Windows install disk on an external drive (internal is broken) ?

can bootcamp be used with Windows install disk on an external drive (internal is broken) ?

With Boot Camp, you must install Windows onto in internal HDD (or SSD).  If you are referring that your internal Optical drive is broken, you might be able to install Windows from an external drive, but you might not.  I have heard varying levels of success with that.  I'm not sure what the official stance is, but I do know that if youe machine shipped with an internal optical drive, then you must use that to install Windows using Boot Camp and not swap it out for a "data doubler" and try to install from an external optical drive.

  • Windows Install in Bootcamp

I have a MacBook Pro running the latest update of OS 10.6.5 It has become necessary to reinstall Windows XP with Service Pack 2 into Boot Camp. I deleted the Boot Camp partition as instructed, created a new Bootcamp partition, but when the process reaches Windows Setup, "Setup is starting Windows" appears, but nothing more happens. I waited 20 minutes and still nothing. If I boot up into OS X, the Boot Camp partition is empty. What's going on? It is absolutely imperative that I reinstall Windows by December 15th late evening.

xp vista not supported on the OS X Lion
    That is to say BootCamp.
I am running Windows XP on ParallesDesktop6 just fine.

had to delete the scratch drive to let me partition it correctly so I could install windows
I installed windows everythings working great

it is there just unable to boot to it.

Photoshop only has one Color Palette.  If you could script something  like a Color Palette with  two sets of active sliders the script would be in control till you dismissed its sliders dialog.  You would not be able to do anything but adjust the script's sliders in Photoshop while the script dialog window is being displayed.  Photoshop Scripting does not have real palette dialog type support.
I do not know what is possible with Photoshop extensions using HTML 5 Panels.....

  • MacBook Pro 2010 hangs when booting from Windows install disk

    Hi there,
I'm trying to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp. I've used Bootcamp before so familiar I'm with how it should work. I have a USB CD drive, which I've used on other machines OK, and an official Windows Install Disk.
After Bootcamp finishes copying over all it's drivers etc to my external USB drive, it reboots. However, whenever I try to boot from a disk it always just hangs on the Apple logo (no spinning cog/wheel). This happens whenever the Bootcamp installer performs a reboot and/or when I hold down ALT on startup and select the boot CD.
I can still boot in to mac partition. Could this be a problem with the EFI? Any help with identifying this problem or how get the information to fix this problem would be much appreciated
    Thanks.

  • Getting this error while opening a folder : This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel

    Hi,
While trying to open a folder on my Windows 7 Home Premium, an error comes "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this
action.  Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." I tried searching on the net but did not get great support for the issue when it happens with folder opening.

    Hi Nikunj Shah,
    First, I suggest you download
    Microsoft Safety Scanner or
Malicious Software Removal Tool to run a full scan.
The error messages here seems to be caused by the corrupted registries, which related with the folder association.
You may take a try to merge the following registry settings to reset the folder association, before that, remember to backup your registry settings first:

  • How can i make the volume controller on a pavillion dv4 work after a clean windows install?

    Hello!
Recently I performed a clean windows 7 install from a windows install disk I previously owned, the problem is that this disk didn't intalled the drivers and programs specific for this computer. What I want to know is which driver or program I need to install to make the volume controller on my computer to work again? The problem is that the volume bar that previously appeared on the screen and the "bing" sound indicating the volume level doesn't appear or sound now.
All other things seem to work fine, this is the only problem so far.
