Boris Title 3D Text Pixelates When Scaled up

I created some Boris Title 3D Text and scaled it up using the Controls and it seems to be pixelating. I was under the impression that it was vector based and would not do this?
Thanks.

Opacity...that you use the MOTION tab for.
The X Scale is all you need to worry about. Make sure LOCK SCALE TO X is checked and you'll be fine.

  • Boris Title - Missing Text After Render

All apologies if this is an ages old bug that everyone worked to fix years ago. I was a daily editor from FCP 1.0 until 2004 or so when a project caused me to walk away from cuts and edits and crashes all together. Like a masochist, I've jumped back in, but without the prior security that came with daily readings of all the proper forums. I've tried to do my due diligence (5 hours here, 2-pop, Cow, etc) but to no avail. So....
    FCP 4.5/OS X 10.4.9
Previews of text when using Boris Title Crawl to create a crawl look fine, but after rendering, the beginning and end of each text string, no matter how long, are missing.
So the above sentence would read:
ext when using Boris Title Crawl to create a crawl look fine, but after rendering, the beginning and end of each text string a
Scrolls are no problem. Only a problem with crawls.
Again. Sorry if this has already been settled and I'm just overlooking the thread.

    Welcome (back) to the forum.
    Have you tried...
Deleting all renders in Render Manager, then re-rendering?
using the crawl in a different sequence or project?
    trashing preferences?
I'm unable to duplicate the behavior. Seems to work fine here, with that sentence.
    How are you previewing?
Do you have improperly set 'Margins' in the 'page' tab of Boris...or any crops set in 'Motion' tab of FCP?
    Post back,

EDIT - BTW, FCP4.5 works best with OS 10.3.9/QT6.5.2

  • Boris Title Crawl

    Hi all,
did some looking around and couldn't find anything this specific.
I am able to get the "Text window" when using the Boris Title 3D. But when I go to use the Boris Title Crawl and click on the "banner" for the Text window, nothing happens. I do get a new menu for Title Crawl but no real working options. I am not able to use it at all.
Has anyone else seen this problem?
    Thanks!

Could it be a corrupt font?
    To validate fonts:
Open Font Book and select one or more installed fonts to check.
    Choose File > Validate Font.
In the Font Validation window, review the fonts listed for warnings or errors. Use the pop-up menu to display warnings and errors separately, if necessary.
For fonts with warnings or errors, click the disclosure triangle next to the font to see which validation rules show errors.
To remove a corrupted font, click the checkbox next to the font. Make sure fonts you want to keep are not checked. Then click the Remove Checked button.

  • Report Title and Text Area issue when exported to pdf using Viewer

    Hi there,
We are using OracleBI Discoverer Version 10.1.2.55.26
We have reports that displays Report title containing the following
    - Report Title
    - Runt Date and Time
    - Page No
And text area which displays 'Last Page'
Following properties are set at the worksheet level using page setup
Report Title --> 'Print on every Page'
Text Area --> 'Print on last page'
The report when exported to PDF using Discoverer plus works fine and displays report title and text area as defeined.
But when we try to export the same report to pdf from Discoverer viewer, it displays
    - Report title on first page only.
    - text area on all pages
All our users accesses report using discoverer viewer so we cannot open discoverer plus to them.
Is there a solution which will enable us to export the report in pdf using discoverer viewer and displays the same output as discoverer plus.
Please let me know... If you have any questions then please feel free to ask.
Thanks in advance for your help...

but when opened on other os x machines some text is colored differently than it should be
Well, if typographic objects are colour managed, the colour appearance is dependent on the source ICC profile that describes the colourants in the typographic objects and the destination ICC profile that describes the colours the display is able to form and the RBC colourant combinations that will form those colours.
In general, typographic objects should have special treatment, since the expectation is not that typographic objects should be colour managed, but that typographic objects should simple be set to the maximum density of dark. On a display, that is R=0 G=0 B=0 and on a seperations device (a lithographic press) that is C=0 M=0 Y=0 K=100.
If for some reason typographic objects are colour managed, and if the ICC profiles for the displays are off by half a mile or more in relation to the actual state of the display system, then the colours will not be the same. On the other hand, if those displays are calibrated and characterized, then the colourants will be converted to form the same colours on the displays.

  • When scaling in page setup, 1st page prints correctly, but subsequent pages do not scale correctly/too large for the paper, parts of the text missing

When trying to print in Firefox, and when scaling the page size in page setup, the first page prints correctly, but subsequent pages do not scale correctly and are too large for the paper, with parts of the text are being cut off at the top and right. This is not fixed by checking or un-checking the "ignore scaling/shrink to fit page width" in the print window, or by changing the scaling%.
I am running Firefox 15.0.1, on Mac OS 10.5.8.
The same problem happens in the print preview and if I save the print as a .pdf
I have tried all the fixes in the how to's and others in various forums with no improvement.
This happens every time I try to print a document scaled up or down only in Firefox.

The 2nd page print scaling error has been an issue with Firefox on the Mac since 2011. People at Mozilla have not considered this a major problem. Try printing anything at less than 100% and you'll quickly see how every page after the first page being scaled wrong gets old real fast. The lack of a solution to this issue forced me long ago into using Safari as my primary browser. Good luck waiting until version 21 for a solution. Current release is 18.0.2.

  • Getting Smooth Text with Boris Title Crawl (Scroll)

Hi, using FCP 5 (Studio) with Boris Title Crawl generator.
It seems to work pretty well, does what it should, renders relatively fast, all that. The only problem is the upward scrolling motion is a little jumpy. Just wondering what things I should be tweaking or some general strategy for getting a smooth text scroll.
The timeline is 10-Bit uncompressed NTSC so there aren't DV text issues here (or so I'd think). I'm trying different fonts, bold and sans-serif. It looks OK, but not broadcast (DVD actually) ready.
    Thanks everybody, much appreciated.
    Jason

    Thanks Jim, makes sense.
To adjust speed, do you mean basically slightly change the length of the clip? I don't see any other place to alter that.
    Thanks,
    Jason

  • Strange behaviour when scaling GREP styled text.

In the quest for the perfect scaling script I am running into another problem. I tried to scale my GREP styled text, and it came out like this:
Notice the "$" and "cents" are too small - whereas it should look like this:
Sorry I used a slightly larger image and different value, but I don't that is an issue with respect to this problem.
So on the desktop, I decide to check preference>general tab> when scaling> "apply to content" was checked.
I changed it to "adjust scaling percentage" and my $249.99 came out perfectly proportional to the original set text, (let pretend there is a 2 in front of the $49.99)
So I upload the template to the server and proceed to scale it and I get this:
In this example, the decimal has not scaled and thus allowing the "cents" to jam into the dolllar value. I am also unable to reproduce this error on the desktop.
Can anyone explain what is happening or how to compensate for these errors? Thanks for your help! My script is below:

  • Creating Gutter with Boris Title Crawl

    Hello all!
I'm doing the end credits for a DV project and as we all know Boris is better than Final Cut's text generators. Just wondering if there's a feature in Boris a la the * in FCP's Scrolling Text generator. You know, to line up those gaps. I've fidgeted and can't find it.
    Michael

*This is very annoying - because the problem comes about at the the tail end of projects when I'm trying to export files to create DVDs, make deadlines, etc.*
Not an answer to your question... I've never used Boris title crawl. But a suggestion that might save you time when trouble shooting... You can just export the title sequence at the end of your show as a test to verify if it's working properly rather than exporting the whole thing only to find you still have an issue.

  • Boris Title 3D Can't adjust effect options

Hi, I've been using Title 3D for titles in my project and it was working fine up until yesterday. Now when I try to adjust shadow size, opacity, etc it won't work. I highlight the text, and when I use the sliders nothing happens. Same with outline.
I've tried trashing the FCP prefs and restarting, and it still doesn't work.
    Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the family.
Including your version of FCP is helpful.
Try changing the length of the graphics clip or moving it so the render is lost. that may free up the controls.
I've just run a coupel of tests on Boris 3D, seems to work as expected for editing all settings and parameters. So, can't help you at the moment but stick around, may take a few days for someone with a clue to check in on the question.

  • Boris title crawl missing after converting with Compressor

Not sure where to put this, since it involves two applications, FCP and Compressor.
I have my credits done as a Boris title crawl (roll). They roll up just like credits in the average movie. They're quite long, spanning almost 4 minutes. Some videos are also included in the open space during this title crawl.
When I convert the files for use with DVD Studio, I used the DVD Best quality 90 minutes presets. It performed that conversion without a hitch.
Looking at the video, everything looks great (it's interlaced, of course). No apparent problems, until the end, where the credits should be scrolling: there's nothing. The videos show up, but only one small section of the credits actually show, and it's cut-off.
I checked the credits again in FCP, and they all fit 100% within the inner title-safe overlays. I've never had any trouble with these rolling credits, except for this problem now.
Any ideas what could cause them to almost completely disappear? most of the time the screen is pure black with absolutely NO text whatsoever. Only three lines show up, and they are cut off on both sides (they extend beyond the view of the screen on both the right and the left).
Many thanks to whoever can assist me.

So you're saying I should just export one as a test? Or, what I was thinking is, export the title crawl as a self-contained movie, then import it back into FCP and then send it to Compressor; can't mess it up like it does if it's a strait-up video, right?
Still can't figure out why Compressor would mess it up like that though. Looks perfect when I export the whole movie as a self-contained movie, which I already did twice. I then burned a sample DVD Using iDVD as a test to see how my video looked on the TV screen. Everything was perfect, except a small amount of flickering in some text (but it wasn't enough to bother me).
Yet, sending it to Compressor completely destroys the title crawl, leaving the intermixed videos untouched. Just plain weird...

  • Boris Title 3D freezing?

    Greetings
Sometimes when I open up Boris Title 3D to copy the text box and put it into a word document,
    it freezes on me.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Have you updated Boris Title 3D to the latest version (2.2)?
Boris Title 3D is actually Boris Calligraphy, if you need to update go to
    www.borisfx.com
and click on Support > Updates > Calligraphy
You will need to register on the site to download.
This fixed a problem Boris Title 3D had with some Microsoft Office installed fonts.

  • Boris Title 3D in FCE

I'm using FCE 4.0.1 and Boris Title 3D version 2.1.0.060120
I'm finding that text justification doesn't work correctly. Also, it doesn't allow me to set it differently in different sections the way you can change size or color & stuff. This is the only text generator that works for the effect I'm creating (so I can't use something else).
Have there been any updates to this plugin? I asked Boris FX but didn't get a reply. (I hate it when companies have an online help site and don't even respond.)
    Thanks.

OK, great! That helps. But there's still two flaky behaviors I'm seeing.
I have selected full justification with the orphan left justified. But the orphan ends up full justified:
+(I tried to add a picture to the thread, but I guess I don't know how to do that.)+
Anyway, there is no difference between any of the 3 justify buttons. But I can force it to do what I want by putting a tab to the right - so that's an OK work around.
Then when I view it on the Canvas, it takes on a whole new life of its own. The word wrapping occurs in different places.
Thanks for the help. This gets me a lot farther than I was before.

  • Applying Boris Title Crawl

    Hello,
I'm having a heck of a time getting the scrolling title/credits, that I finally figured out to do in Boris, but am missing a step that's not putting it into the timeline. To start, I clicked on the title icon in the lower right-hand side of the viewer, the chose Boris, Title Crawl, then typed up all my credits. Then it took me to the Controls tab, and then from there, I'm just not getting what's next. Like w/'regular' titles, afterwards, I clicked on the Video Tab, but, nothing was showing up. I also dragged in the blank empty 'box' from the Video Tab, and on the timeline, it is labeled as 'Title Crawl', but again, nothing. Can someone please help, and let me know the step I'm missing? Thank you!

    Hey there,
That's what I thought, that when I set everything up, animation/roll, and switch to my video tab in the Viewer - there's nothing there, even when I scrub back and forth bewteen my in and my outpoint, I do not see my text scrolling up and down. I dragged it into my timeline, scrolled through it, but didn't render it - could that be the issue? I didn't render 'cause I didn't see anything there TO render. And, I thought I would have seen it in the Viewer window. Maybe I'll try rendering, and see what happens...
I did originally try it in the FCP scrolling text generator, and yes, all of the scrolling text is there. But the reason I want to put it into Boris is because it's still 'wavy', despite putting on a de-interlacer, and fixing the whiteness, etc...
I haven't tried the Boris Title 3D tool - only Crawl. Thanks!

  • Text blurry when converted to flash video

I've been exporting my movies from FCP as 8 bit uncompressed to use as a master for converting to flash via the Flash 8 encoder.
The resulting images look great except for text on title cards that were created with text generator in FCP.
I've done numerous tests at various settings, but the text, after the Flash encoding, never looks pristine as it does in QT.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

I don't think you're gaining anything by exporting a DV sequence to uncompressed 8 bit. If you want to improve things, try editing in a ProRes sequence instead from the get go. 10 bit color, and it should play the DV in RT without having to render it as long as your computer is fast enough. But when you recompress a DV seqence to something else, you really can only lose quality. You can't get better by upcoverting the DV, but your titles will look better in 10 bit prores. Keep in mind that once you create something (say a title) in a DV sequnece, it becomes just that... so if you were to create the title in a ProRes 10 bit sequence, theory says that it should look better.
Also FWIW, the Boris Title 3D titler is vector based, not bit-mapped like the text tools are. So it should look nicer all around.

  • Boris Title 3-D problem

When I attempt to create a title in Boris Title 3-D, FCP suddenly quits. Then that file will not reopen (I see it briefly and then it crashes again). It does not quit when I use other text options. Do you have any suggestions on fixing this problem?
