Bridge CS5 - Temporary files everywhere... cannot delete

Hi,
Do you get temporary files from Bridge too ?
mine are like :
808_35989_MVM_2.tmp
808_35989_MVM_3.tmp
808_35989_MVM_4.tmp
808_35989_MVM_5.tmp
they disappear after I close Bridge completely
How do I get them to auto-hide or choose their directory ?
all I can set is the Cache's directory.

I noticed *MVM_#.tmp files appearing on one of my drives and it's Photoshop CS5 wh
ich is causing them to show up.  Closing out of the program results in the files disappearing.  It is rather annoying to see the files there, I think they may be appearing when t
he computer goes to sleep.
The odd thing about this is that this is a drive different from the one PS is installed on.
Browsing the Edit > Prefs > Perfomance dialog it is not the drive selected as a "scratch" drive.
I'm a bit bamboozled by this, I wish I could specify a directory at least where these files would go instead of on the main drive.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Bridge CS5 Renames Files in HTML Web Gallery

    When creating an HTML Web Gallery (using ‘Lightroom’ template), Bridge CS5 renames the thumbs and large images to an arbitrary number.  The caption reads as the original file name, but the actual image has a new name.  This is problematic, as my clients will right-click selected images from my galleries to save and forward for approval, but the file name is not the same as the original.
    As an example: VLNK0321.jpg is renamed as _4856316150.jpg.  (In Preferences/Output, the "Convert multi-byte file names to Full ASCII" is unchecked.)
    Is there any way to fix this little (for me--BIG) problem?

    Solved!
    This works for Windows.  I imagine the Mac solution is similar. Props to William Zauscher for helping find an answer.
    I take no responsibliity for any damage caused to your computer, Photoshop or Bridge...
    In Windows, browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Bridge CS5 Extensions\Adobe  Output Module\mediagallery\resources\scripts
    In the file named "galleryCreator.jsxinc" replace the lines:
    AOM.AmgGalleryCreator.createUniqueFileName = function(filePath, jpgFile,  createMode)
        var alteredName;
        while (true)
             alteredName = "_";
            for (var i=0; i<10; i++)
                 alteredName += Math.floor(Math.random() * 10);
             alteredName += ".jpg";
            var f = new File(filePath +  alteredName);
            if (!f.exists)
                break;
         return alteredName;
    ...with the following:
    AOM.AmgGalleryCreator.createUniqueFileName = function(filePath, jpgFile, createMode)
                    var alteredName;
                    while (true)
                                    alteredName = "_";
                                    alteredName += jpgFile += ".jpg";
                                    var f = new File(filePath + alteredName);
                                    if (!f.exists)
                                                    break;
                    return alteredName;
    You can cut and paste the above.  Just save a version of the original file somewhere in case of screwups...
    Cheers!

    I open the memory control app
    it lists "Temporary files" with 1.1 GB
    there's a button below that says "Delete" , I press it and wait, but nothing happens! still 1.1 GB
    does anyone know why?

    Because not all files can be deleted. Some files stored there are downloads through non system apps and you need to delete those separate. Also there may be temporary system files whcih you can't delete.

  • Adobe bridge CS5.5 cannot delete files

    Hi
    I have latest version of Lion, and recently upgraded CS3 to CS5.5. All my files under my home folder are there to view in bridge and were ofcourse created under CS3.
    If I select ANY file, I cannot delete it, or move it, or rename it, or do a batch rename.. Nothing, yet it I find it in my finder window, I can delete it.
    If I create a new .ai file which would be with CS5.5 I CAN delete it. So I am wondering what permissions are not sufficient from CS3 to CS5.5 in bridge. I have spoken to Apple Tech and they advised me to change my home folder permissions for Everyone to read and write and apply to enclosed items. That didn't work.
    I have heard there is an issue between Lion and Adobe, but not sure I buy that one. At the end of the day Bridge is just like a finder window, except it have more tools and more links to more adobe applications, but basically a file view window. Yet when I choose to view files in Finder I can delete them, except it will keep asking me to enter my user pword everytime with no option to remember it.
    The only way of getting around this so far is to manually one by one is SAVE AS each file with a new file name.. no auto script option I can see of doing it so far.
    I have ALOT of files, surely there is something I should be knowing after all these years.
    HELP!
    Dan

    Thank you, SG, for clarifying which OS's this will work with.
    I agree with Jennie - the beauty of "get photos from camera" is that it takes 2 steps out of the workaround you mention above. Personally, I'm okay living with 6.4.1, as I have an older camera. I won't be happy if one of the push updates re-updates me to 6.5 though. I wouldn't want to redo the reinstallation of the new version. This method will not work for any of my clients or students though - they normally can't comfortably follow the technicality of downgrading, and some have newer cameras and would need the 6.5 version. (I don't believe in betas for my clients, and neither do they, for the most part)
    I guess I should thank Adobe - some of my clients have needed tech support to perform the downgrade (SO many people aren't comfortable technically), and some of my clients needed to be retaught the workaround SG mentions. Adobe's flub has actually made me a little money - which I'd rather not have to make this way.
    SG's workaround does work and makes sense - but for my clients with hundreds of images at a time, who have to rename items, add copyright info, & etc., this more than doubles their work-time for the start of their workflow. I hope Adobe gets that GM version out soon.
    BTW - this issue supports an argument I've hadfor years regarding "PUSH" updates. I always tell my clients and students not to do them until they research the update. Because of what I do, I do have to install them personally, but I'm grateful I'm comfortable fixing things myself.

  • How do you tell which files are open in bridge cs5?

    In adobe bridge for CS2, open files in Photoshop show an icon in the lower right corner of the bridge thumnail. This is really helpful in sorting if you have a lot of files open. I can't figure out how to tell in bridge CS5 which files are open in photoshop. Is there a menu option that controls this??

    Thanks for the reply. This is a useful feature but not quite what I need.
    I am sorting through 2000 wedding photos. I have maybe 10 versions of the same shot open at a time. I edit, save, and close 2-3 of them. In CS2, I would go back to bridge and I could see the 7 files still open. I could quickly highlight and delete them. I'm trying to find a way to do something similar in CS5 bridge. Right now, I take the ones I'm going to delete and stack them all. But when I go back to bridge to delete them, I have to look at file numbers to see which ones are in the stack that I want to delete. This really slows my work flow. Any suggestions? Can I delete them directly from Photoshop?

  • Temporary files are not getting deleted

    Hi All,
    I am using informix database and my code is reading BLOB from database and writing the image to different storage media. The program has to run for number of images. It is writing to media successfully but not exiting even after printing the last statement in program. it is generating some temporary files ifxb_* . If I use System.exit() garbage collection is not happeneing and temporary files not getting deleted.
    I am storing BLOB to an InputStream. and closing all the Connections and ResultSet before exit.
    Can anyone please tell why program is not exiting normally?

    I never used them last year because I only found out about there existance about 4 Months ago.
    And guess what I have never used normal statements for something like that again.
    Only time I use a normal Statement is when I run that query only once, and no the entire query is hardcoded so no need for any worries due to security.Um ... D'you post this to the wrong forum/topic?
    Anyway, OP ... I don't know a thing about informix, so perhaps a trip over to IBM would help ... they have lots of information on their site. You might want to try a different forum right here at java.sun.com as well.
    About those closing of Connections and Resultsets ... are they in finally clauses? They should be.

    What might be the problem.
    pls advice the solution....
    thanks in Advance...

    try this..
    REP-118: Unable to create a temporary file.
    Case 1: The environment variable that determines in what directory to create temporary files is set to an invalid directory.
    Case 2: There is not enough free space on the disk to create the temporary file.
    Case 3: A temporary file that cannot be modified already exist
    In regedit under branch hkey_local_machine/software/oracle/<oracle home>

  • Creating a temporary file in the user computer

    Hi everyone,
    I want to create a new file using:
    File folder = new File(folderString);
    when folderString should be a folder where all temporary files of the user are saved (its a dynpage code).
    So I found the following code in <b>JavaScript</b>:
    var  cTemporaryFolder = 2,tmpdir='';
    var fso;
    fso     = new ActiveXObject('Scripting.FileSystemObject');
    var fso;
    tmpdir     = fso.GetSpecialFolder(cTemporaryFolder);
    But how do I combine the code with the statement
    File folder = new File(folderString);
    (I eventually need: folderString = tmpdir - but one variable knows <b>java</b> and the other <b>javascript</b>)
    Thanks so much.
    I promise to award points...
    Ruthie.

    Hi Ruthie,
    Try out this code
    try{
    // Create a temporary file object
    File f = new File("d://TestTemp");
    File tempFile = File.createTempFile("mail", "temp",f);
    System.out.println("Created temporary file: " + tempFile + "\n");
    // Delete temp file when program exits
    tempFile.deleteOnExit();
    // Write to temporary file
    BufferedWriter out = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(tempFile));
    out.write("TEMP FILE: " + tempFile);
    out.close();
    BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
    System.out.println("Press any key");
    br.read();
    System.out.println("Temp File will be deleted");
    catch(IOException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    Now, the temp file will be created in d:\TestTemp\ folder. Before pressing any key just check in this folder. You will see the temp file. Pressing any key will exit the program. After this check the d:\TestTemp\ folder, the tempfile will be deleted.

  • Bridge CS5: Images added to collection get removed from collection

    This is the first time I used non-smart collections. But, I'm sure that I'm quite sure that I'm not doing anything wrong.
    I simply dragged thumbnails into the collection from various folders and the collection shows all 20 images. Then, I close out Bridge and open it later, only to find that there are only 4 images in that collection. There may have been 4 images to start with, but every image I've added does not get remembered. This has happened twice and it's very unnerving because the images I am adding are coming from folders that are all over the place and it's very hard to look up all the pictures again.
    What's up with this?
    Thanks,
       Mike

    I've just noticed this problem, by chance, whilst moving data to a new computer.
    We found that files that were in collections were randomly missing from Bridge CS5's display, and sure enough, as described earlier, as soon as a file in the collection with a quote/spostrophe was read, that file and the rest of the collection were missing from Bridge CS5's display.
    (This was using Bridge 4.0.3.9. Adobe Application Manager tells me my software is uptodate)
    Because we had some backed up copies of Collections from both Bridge CS4 and Bridge CS5, I've been able to work a few things out, which I hope might help someone at Adobe get the problem fixed - and might help a few frustrated users too...
    Background
    The following entirely applies to Windows 7 (and presumably Windows Vista too):
    In Bridge CS4, collections files are stored in:
    C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS4\Collections
    In Bridge CS5, collections files are stored in:
    C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS5\Collections
    Both CS4 and CS5 store their Collections in files called <collection name>.filelist
    Both are XML files, where file paths are surrounded by apostrophes:
    For example:
    <file uri='bridge:fs:file:///D:/Shared%20Images/Flowers/RHS/DSC_0788.jpg'>
    Both Bridge CS4 and CS5 convert any spaces in file paths to %20 - so /Shared%20Images/ above is actually /Shared Images/ on disk.
    The cause of the bug
    Crucially, however, in Bridge CS4, any apostrophes (i.e. single quotes) in file paths get converted to %27
    But this conversion does not happen in Bridge CS5. And then when filelists get read back in, the data is truncated.
    As a developer, I'm surprised at this sort of regression in behaviour, in such expensive software from such a large company.
    Workarounds
    None of these should be required to be done by a user, I feel, but I have found that they do work, and they could be scripted (e.g. in Python) if someone were sufficiently desparate:
    Edit your .filelist files that were created by Bridge CS5, and convert all ' in file paths to %27 - oh yes, and remember to do that every time you add any new files to any existing or new Collections
    Edit your .filelist files and change the single quotes at the start and end of each <file uri line to double quotes
    I don't regard "remove quotes from your file names" as an acceptable workaround, however. We've got nearly 400GB of files, going back more than 10 years, and various of these are referred to from other locations, e.g. InDesign publications: if we were to rename locations for the benefit of Bridge, we'd break other stuff on the PC.

  • Related to Temporary file

    Dear All,
    When I save recode through our application,it is not saving in database due to some temporary file,when I delete all temporary file then it is saving in database.
    Can any one give solution for that?
    Thanks in advance

    the problem is with your buffer storage. due to in sufficient space in the swap as per the RAM. the temporary files are used for the
    memory assistance.. and hence that is the problem...
    you can use host cmd for deleting the temp. files
    and you can configure your ram and swap space too....

  • PDFMaker error attempting to save temporary file PdM###.tmp

    Hello. This is my first post. I'm using Word 2007 and Acrobat 8. I'm trying to create a PDF with tagging turned On. Each time I do this, the computer bogs down, the process fails and I get an error reading, "Acrobat PDFMaker. An error occurred while creating a temporary file: You cannot save whiel the file is in use by another process. Try saving the file with a new name." The file name is shown in parantheses. The name varies, but it's always of the form PdM###.tmp with the ### being three numbers or two numbers and a letter or some such. I've tried this on two separate computers, and I have ended up with the same error. Any ideas?

    Hi all,
    {Posting this for knowledge of others}
    Solved by changing access rights of /var/tmp to drwxrwxrwx from drwxrwxrwt ....
    I think this might be helpful for someone facing same problem.
    Thanks

  • How can I delete temporary files in FF. This is very simple in IE but feature cannot be found in FF

    IE has a simple means to delete both cookies and temporary files. I can delete cookies in FF but there is no way found to delete temporary files. I have actually solved the problem and the answer might be of use to others with the same problem.
    There is a firmware update that will correct the problem.
    It's at
    http://www.kingston.com/en/support/technical/products?model=fcr-hs3
    There is a small catch in  that the firmware update can only be done on a Windows machine but I have been told that once this is done it can be used with OSX9 .I have just done the download but  I haven't checked this out yet.
