Bridge in trial CS4 doesn't read my Canon G10 .CR2 files

One of my motivations for upgrading to CS4 is to use my canon G10 files through bridge.
I've transferred the files from the camera to my computer. I've also run them through the latest DNG converter to use with CS3 - that worked fine.
Now bridge in the CS4 trial lists the .CR2 files, but with no metadata or thumbnail. If I double click on the file, CS4 says "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document." The .DNG versions load without any problem.
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks,
Arthur

Thanks Don.
I had just come to that conclusion and tried to edit my post but it didn't seem to work.
My question now is, if I update to CR5.2, will that mess up CS3 (in case, for example, I don't end up keeping CS4)?

  • Bridge CS4 cannot view or edit G10 CR2 files

    Hi,
I have searched for this and come up with a few pointers but so far none has worked for me.
    Running PS CS4 11.0.1
Got latest CR 5.5 and it is in the correct place.
    Have run CameraProfiles exe file.
Have deleted and rebuilt icon cache for folder(s) in question.
Do not have this issue with NK2 files from my D70s
    My issue:
When in Bridge I cannot see any image icons for Canon G10 .CR2 file. It is a generic icon. When I right-click on the file I am not offered "edit in CameraRaw".
HOWEVER - When in Lightroom 2.5, I CAN see the actual image files, and if I choose edit in PS, it opens CameraRaw in PS.
What gives? My wife _hates_ lightroom and she just wants to broswe the files in Bridge and then edit them in CR, but can't. It's "my fault" for shooting RAW images rather than JPEGs ;-)
    Please help!
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Hmm. I can't find an about CR button or link, but when I open the Camera Raw prefs from the top menu in the plug-in, I can see 5.5.097 in the top bar of the prefs window. I placed the 5.5 8bi file in the file formats sub-folder of the plug-in folder of PS yesterday. I did not have it installed in there at all previously, so no need to remove the old one or overwrite; I just placed it in there.
Also, I'm going mad, the Nikon files are .NEF not NK2 sorry

Photoshop Elements Organizer 9 will not read in Canon 70D raw files. All updates have been made.

The Canon EOS 70D was first supported in Camera Raw 8.2 (the plugin used by Photoshop Elements to read Raw files)
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Camera Raw 8.2 is only compatible with Elements 12 and later. It is not compatible with Elements 11 or earlier.

    Your choices:
Upgrade to Elements 12 to open 70D Raw files in Elements
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all 70D Raw files to DNGs then open and edit the DNG files in Elements 9

  • PS CS5 w/ ACR 6.7 cannot read Canon 7D CR2 files

    Hello,
I recently upgraded from a Canon 50D to a Canon 7D.  On my iMac I am running PS CS5 Extended 12.0.4 and have updated to camera raw 6.7.0.339.  Unfortunately, PS is not reading the CR2 files from the Canon 7D; "Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw".  From what I have read, Canon 7D support was added to ARC 5.4 and, by default, is a part of ACR 6.7.  All the similar posts list the solution as updating ACR to latest version which I have done. Ultimately, I would like to avoid converting the CR2 files to Adobe DNG.  I can confirm that the CR2 files in question are complete and are not corrupted as I can view them with both Windows and Mac photo previewers.
    Any suggestions or ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

Your new camera is a canon 7D or canon 70D?

  • CS4 doesn't read RAW - what to do?

My newly installed CS4 seems to work OK except for the fact that it will not open RAW (.nef) files.  When you try it says "not the right kind of document".
I suspect the difficulty springs from my unusual installation process, which went as follows:
    1) I have CS3 installed and working -- I decide to upgrade to CS4.
    2) I buy the upgrade to CS4 online from Adobe & start the download.
    3) The download freezes without completing.  I notice the serial number on the screen and write it down.
    4) I call Adobe support about what to do next.  I am told to just download the trial version of CS4,
install it, and upon startup type in the serial number I wrote down from the screen.
    5) I do this, and the result is this crippled CS4.
My CS3 is still installed and working.  It handles RAW using Camera Raw 4.6.
Anybody have any suggestions for me, or do I have to do another long session with Adobe support?
    Many thanks.

Why would the Camera Raw that comes with CS4 be less capable than the one I have with my CS3?
It isn't less capable. I guess your unusual procedure must have done something to the ACR plug-in in CS4.
I would get the latest (v 5.4) anyway and remove any instances of the plug-in from the CS4 installation before placing it in the correct folder.
I could type it out but it's all in here:

  • Lightroom doesn't read Nikon D700's nef files Help!

Anyone know a way to get Nikon's D700 nef files into Lightroom 2 ? The only way I can even get an image in there is to convert it to a tiff in Nikon's Capture NX2 and export it. Is Adobe going to provide an update for this any time soon? I have the Nikon NX2 program for a 60 day free trial. I really don't want to purchase or switch to it. Solutions anyone?
    (I have a PowerBook G4 with Mac OS X 10.4.)

I have a D700 & LR2 and all works fine (in that area that is...).
I did nothing extra, so I dont know what to say
Except Im on a macpro, but that shouldnt make a difference. Should it?
Latest Adobe Raw plug maybe? Good luck..sorry i cant help
(maybe you know this already, but its normal for now, that you dont see them on the desktop/in preview or anything like that, apple is not ready yet..)

  • Premier Pro CS4 doesn't recognize my Canon Vixia HF200

Any ideas why Premier is not recognizing my camera?

Because it's not the kind of camera Premiere needs to 'recognize'.  You don't capture from this camera, you transfer the entire folder structure to your internal hard drive first and then use Premiere's Media Browser to import the media.

  • Can't open Canon 7D CR2 files in Bridge

I have Photoshop and Bridge CS4 running on an iMac.  I just purchased a Canon 7D (great, btw),.  Unfortunately Bridge and Photoshop can't open the files.  The error message says Photoshop can't recognize this type of file.  I can convert them to tiff, jpg, etc using other programs, but I'd rather not have the extra conversion.
Any advise on correcting this error?

It sounds like you are running an older version of the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in.  That camera model was not supported in versions 5.5 and earlier of Adobe Camera Raw.
You need to upgrade to ACR 5.7, which is the last version of ACR to run with CS4.
Use the auto updater in the Help menu of Photoshop.  If it doesn't work for whatever reason, download ACR 5.7 amnually and carefully install it according to the instructions.  Please note that the path to the correct location starts with your root level Library, not your user library.

  • CS4 MAC Canon G10 RAW file panorama stitch problem problem

    Hi,
I was loading 5 RAW files into CS4 auto stitch. The file view fine a thumbnails in ACR 5.2 and Bridge but I noticed that when I was attempting to select which images to select for stitching in CS4 that the I could not see thumbnail detail in the selection view panel. After I selected the images I wanted by file name CS4 crashed when I tried to start the panorama stitching process... Anyone else had problems like this?
MacPro 2.66 GHZ dual core. 6GB RAM and Latest version of CS4, ACR on Leopard.

It's working fine on my machine running Tiger. Your setup is a lot more powerful than mine, and mine handles a 5-raw-image-file panorama fairly snappy.
Photoshop 11 ("CS4"). Dual bootable, DP MDD 1.25GHz G4 (2004), maxed out at 2GB of RAM, both Spotlight and Dashboard disabled, Photoshop primary scratch disk on dedicated 160GB internal drive, at least 100GB available on each of the four internal drives, up to 300GB on some. Counting external FW drives just over 1TB of drive space available. nVidia GeForce 7800 GS 425MHz 256 MB graphics display card. Processor napping enabled through CHUD 3.5.2.

  • Neither CS4 or CS6 will let me open .cr2 files

    Hi,
I purchased a Canon 6D earlier this year, and have had no issue opening .raw's on my laptop, which went dead recently. I'm using a Windows Vista 64-bit HP desktop now (I know) and can not get them to open. I can view them in Windows Previewer, just not in either version of PS.
I downloaded the DNG converter, and that won't even recognize the .cr2's. I downloaded a few different Camera Raw updates for my system, replacing the previous version properly, and they still will not open. I've read uninstalling PS MAY help, but that would pretty much take all day, and I'd like to make sure that's my final option.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks guys!

I'm really out of ideas and Google isn't helping. I would contact Canon support to see if they have a raw converter for you, and of course any ideas.
To be sure, see if you can try opening your raws on another system if possible.
If you have a CR2 you can trust me with, PM me a download link and I'll see what results I get.
I don't know how practical it is for you, but I upgraded from Vista to 7. Don't miss Vista at all.

Bought the Canon 5D Mark 2 for christmas.

The icon of CR2 shows in bridge but wont read the file
    I'm on a Mac

    Nana

If from within bridge you go to Help>Update that should find
the camera raw 5.7 update and install it.
Here's where you can manually download the camera raw 5.7 update if
    need be.

  • ACR Plugins not working and Bridge won't view cr2 files

Hey there.. I've been using Photoshop/Bridge/ ACR for 7 years now but from memory I have had this issue before when installing.
My laptop just got a new hard drive and fan and I've had to reinstall everything.
I downloaded 3 different ACR plugins and none of them have enabled Camera Raw reading for bridge.
    I'm using CS6 with Canon 5dmk2 cr2 files.
    I have tried 7.1
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Camera Raw 7.1 Update
    I have tried 6.7
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Camera Raw 6.7.1 Update
    I've tried this link
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Adobe DNG Converter 8.8
and I've tried a Microsoft codec pack somebody else suggested
Download Microsoft Camera Codec Pack (6.3.9721.0) from Official Microsoft Download Center
    Please help....

The 5D2 only needs ACR 5.2 or newer so your current version of ACR 7.1 should open the files.
If ACR isn’t enabled in Bridge then the usual thing is to launch Photoshop and open a raw file at least once without using Bridge, with File / Open or PS / Open.
Doing Help / Updates from PS should install the latest ACR version for you in case that helps.
You can also try installing ACR manually.
If you have a newer OS like Windows 7+ or OSX 10.8+ then try ACR 8.8 is what you want to install:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/camera-raw-plug-in-installer.html
If you have an older OS like Windows Vista or OSX 10.6.8 then ACR 8.3 is what you want an installer further down on this page:

  • CS4 downloaded raw 5.7 still cant open cr2 files on windows 8 HELP!!!

Does CS4 work ok on windows 8 I have purchased a new windows 8 laptop and installed CS4 and I could not open my CR2 files so I downloaded raw 5.7  convertor and still nothong can you please help.

Your camera, the Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i EOS 500D EOS Kiss X3 Digital.  Has been supported ever since ACR version 5.4, so ACR 5.7 is the correct one to install.
Note that we're NOT talking about the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 5.7, which needs to be launched and run separately from Photoshop or Bridge every time you have a new batch of raw Canon files in order first to convert them to raw DNG files.
No, we're talking about ACR 5.7, the Camera Raw plug-in 5.7 that you need to download and install in the precise location strictly according to the precise instructions on the download, and only then re-launch Photoshop and/or Bridge CS.
If you downloaded the DNG Converter 5.7 by mistake, that's not going to magically or automatically open your raw files.  You need to look for, download and install ACR 5.7 in the correct location.  Here's the link to the Windows ACR 5.7 download:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4683
    Installation Instructions
After downloading a ".zip" file, use the operating system or a utility such as WinZip or PKZIP to access the file's contents.
Need help with downloading? See our Downloading Help documents.
This new version of the Camera Raw plug-in replaces the original Camera Raw plug-in that was installed with Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Photoshop CS4.
To install with Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Photoshop CS4:
    Manual installation on Windows®:
    1. Exit Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Bridge.
    2. Open the download file, double-click Setup.exe, and follow the onscreen instructions.
    3. Launch Photoshop CS4 or Adobe Bridge.

  • Macbook won't read card from Canon G10 in USB port

I can't copy Canon G10 RAW files from an SD card via a USB card reader onto an aluminum MacBook. I tried using Adobe Lightroom (the way I usually do this on another machine) to import the files but it couldn't recognize them. I tried to copy the files into a folder on the Desktop but I got a insufficient priveleges message. It seemed to copy the file names but tnot the files. When I tried to remove the card I got a "File is in use and can't be removed" message.
The card reader and the card work fine on a 24"Intel iMac.
Another USB card works fine in the card reader on the MacBook, too.
    I'm puzzled.

Some added info, i CAN boot the bricked machine into Safe mode, but at reboot I get stuck in the same cycle again.
Oh, and in SafeBoot, the Macbook still tells me that no Airport card is installed, even though I know it does (and it's not knocked loose or anything).....
