Bring home media on 5800 through next firmware update

@apollokid
Well I say, never had a Nokia phone with that built in. Not on an s60v2, an s40 or an s60v5 device. Not one. How should I know then? Nobody I know with a Nokia phone had this as well built in.
Also FYI, even if I have attained the "guru" rank, it doesnt mean I know everything. do you? The guru rank just says that I have attained a certain number of kudos and posts, nothing more. I am not a Nokia employee, none of the "guru"s, "professors" or whatever are.
If you find my post helpful please click the green star on the left under the avatar. Thanks.

  • Suggestion for next firmware update - Nokia 5800

If anyone from nokia is reading this in the next firmware update for the Nokia 5800 XM can we have the facility of have the name of the title track of a song scroll from left to right whilst the song is playing, as at the moment it scrolls once and then stops so if its a song with a long title all you can see is just half the title after its scrolled once, and also maybe a way as the song is playing of seeing the details of the song playing (like the tags for artist, Kbps, song title, album name) by clicking the onscreen softkey/options button. And also this can be extended to the contacts list where the name will scroll from left to right to show the full contact name when you press on it, at the moment it doesn't do that.

Unfortunately the care centres are the only people that can help you.
Any other methods that you may read about on other forums will void your warranty and cannot be discussed here.

  • Why won't double clicking Home button bring up Media Controls on iPhone 4S?

Rotation lock has appeared on my iPhone 4S and double clicking the Home button does not bring up Media Controls to unlock it. What needs to be done?

It didn't appear or become activated by itself.

  • Iomega Home Media drive not recognized through Aiport Extreme

Using ethernet cable, my new Iomega Home Media drive is recognized when connected directly to my iMac, but is not recognized when connected to my Aiport.
    Any ideas?

The AirPort Extreme wants to see a drive that is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled). My guess would be that your drive may be formatted for Windows?
You can reformat your drive by connecting to your computer and using Disk Utility.
Hard Drive > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
You may also have documentation that came with the drive that furnishes directions for reformatting the device.

  • How to use iMac as remotely accessible home media server

First time poster, and thanks in advance for any help that any of you might be able to provide. -- Josh
I have a mid-2007 iMac, several AppleTVs and Apple mobile devices, and a 2014 Macbook Pro coming at the end of the week (more detailed info below).  I have a roughly 1 TB library of movies, which are currently housed in an external hard drive attached to the iMac.  When I'm on my home network, I'm able to stream all the movies to all of the AppleTVs, iPhones, and iPads, using iTunes and home sharing, with almost no problem.  But, my family would like to access our movie library remotely, when at the airport, visiting family, etc.
I've researched various options, and am having a hard time parsing through some of the more technical information and figuring out what setup would work best.  It seems to me that although I can't use my iMac as a second display for the new MacbookPro because of technical limitations on the iMac, I might still be able to use the iMac as a remotely accessible home media server.  Running Plex on the iMac has been suggested, but I keep hearing conflicting information on whether the AppleTVs are compatible with Plex, and I've had trouble successfully forwarding ports several years ago when I played with Plex briefly.  iTunes/home sharing is just so easy in terms of setup and reliability between Apple devices, in my experience.  I looked into buying an AirPort Time Capsule, since I was looking into upgrading my router to support 802.11ac anyway (advice on that too?), but was told that neither the Time Capsule drive nor any drive attached to it would be remotely accessible.  Back to my Mac seems like it might work for me to access my library remotely when using the MacbookPro, but not any of the mobile devices (which are more important to the kids), and I'm not sure what advantage a NAS drive would have over using the iMac (although this is where it starts getting a bit technical for me).  Looked at OSX Server also, but not sure how that would interface with whatever additional components I need to get.
Thank you in advance for any help.  I'm sure people have figured out a way to access their media libraries remotely, but for some reason I can't find a straight answer on how.  I've included additional technical details about my setup below.  Thanks again!!
    iMac, 20-in, Mid 2007, 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, OS X 10.9.4, 250 GB storage
    Macbook Pro w. Retina, 13-in, 2014, 2.6 GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3L SDRAM, 128 GB PCle-based Flash Storage
    Iomega HDD, 2 TB
Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router, Model No. WNDR3400v2
    AppleTV, 3rd generation (x3)
iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPad (2nd gen), iPad mini w. Retina

Not really recommended to do what you want as the perfomance will be undesirable and make the experience lousy at best. If you have content you want to watch remotely then simply copy it to a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro and then bring one of the AppleTV's with you. Then you can stream directly from the MBA or MBP to the AppleTV on a remote TV. We did this on our last vacation, loaded a bunch of movies on my MBA, threw one of the ATV's in the suitcase and when we got to our hotel simply connected it using the hotels Wi-Fi and connected the ATV via HDMI to the TV and we were in business.

  • Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive contents not appearing in iTunes

I'm running iTunes 10.5.1 on my MacBook which is running OS X 10.6.8
I've got an iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive ( http://tinyurl.com/l8jmaa ) NAS hooked up to my home intranet, and I use it as the master repository for all my music for iTunes, as I've got multiple computers in the house, and the device (with iTunes and DLNA activated) will show up in the "Shared" section of my iTunes source list, and I can view and play all my music from there.
Sometime over the course of the last few iTunes updates, however, this functionality broke, and I'm not sure why.  The device shows up in the "Shared" section still, but when I click on it, iTunes shows a message on its screen that says "Loading "Iomega-0557fc" (yeah yeah, I didn't give my drive a spiffy name, I just stuck with the stock out-of-the-box name) and gives me the horixzontal cady-cane, and the little circle spinner spins away to the right of the device in the source list, but iTunes never actually completes the task of bringing up an index of the drive.
The drive itself is fully functional.  All the settings are proper on it, I can move data on and off from the Finder, I can even drag-and-drop music files from the NAS in the Finder into iTunes and the files will add to playlists and play just fine (I've got "Copy files to iTunes Media Folder..." turned off, so I know they're playing from the NAS) so it's not like there's some kind of malfuction on the NAS itself.  I've also made sure I've got the latest firmware updates and such.
I'm sure I'm not the only one with one of these drives, and I'm hoping someone else has encountered this issue and figured it out!  Any help is appreciated!

Hi , I have similar problem..It was working initially and for some reason it stopped. I device shows up on the SHARED , however when I click it doesnt load the songs..however I am able to stream songs from Iomega NAS via other DLNA clients (ace player etc in ipad)...

  • How do i put a iPhoto Library on a Iomega Cloud home media hard drive

how do i put a iPhoto Library on a Iomega Cloud home media hard drive

Is this a local physical hard drive that is connected to your Mac by a wired connection? Is it formatted Mac OS extended (journaled)
If the answer to both questions is yes then
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
In looking through their web site I see  no indication that it will work with iPhoto and many that imply it will not - I believe that placing your iPhoto library on it will endanger your photos

  • Suggestions consolidating iTunes accounts, home media network

Hello, I am not exactly sure where to post this, but much may revolve around iTunes store, etc, so I thought I would try here first. Really looking for advice, sorry for the long entry.
I am in the process of trying to reorganize, simplify and set up a nice home media/storage network for my wife and I (and kids as they get older) the opportunity to basically use and sync any of our devices/computers so that we all have access to a main music library, movies, etc. Here are my main questions, and the scenario ...
    I have my own iMac
    Wife has Mac Air
    Have Apple TV2
Will each be getting our own iPod Touch
Airport Extreme currently used for home wifi network
External drive connected to Airport Extreme to store all/everyone's media?
My initial thought is this could function well as a media storage hub that all our networked devices could pull from? Or maybe there is a better option, setup that I'm not thinking of?
Consolidating two individual iTunes Libraries/accounts to one main one?
What is the best/cleanest approach? My wife and I each have our own, but are find merging if it is recommended. Is it recommended that my wife or I change one of our accounts/ids so we both now purchase off the same apple id? Then just combine our two separate libraries onto an external drive hooked to our Airport Extreme, and use that as a main media collection? Can that external drive then be accessed by the Apple TV as well as our personal computers? Or what if the kids down the road want their own account, if you don't use a single apple id to purchase content, is it difficult to have a central media driver with everyone's content?
    For eventual syncing into iCloud?
Is it recommended that we put all devices (whether hers, mine, or kids) to the same Apple ID so all devices have access to all the same material? I'll admit I don't know much about iCloud yet, so this might be a basic question. Or maybe there are still ways to sync all devices even if through different ID accounts so the family doesn't feel I'm 'in complete control' ? Is media stored on an external drive for the network able to sync or be used in the same way by the iCloud service?
I'll probably have more questions, I hope these made sense, and again, sorry for the wordiness. Maybe its a simple setup, but if anyone has the interest or time to lend some advice on what has worked well for them, I'm all ears. Thank you!
    Mark

What is the Model no of the NAS..?
Might be you need to do some settings on NAS..Try resetting the NAS and try to reconfigure again.

  • My Displeasure with the Home Media DVR

Before I begin let me say that I love FIOS....it beats the competition by a mile.  My disappointment however, comes from the software that runs the Motorola boxes badged as the FIOS Home Media DVR.
When I first moved to my current apartment I immediately signed for for FIOS when I found out that it was available.  For three years before I got FIOS I was (and still am) a big fan of TiVo but I decided that it would make sense to try out VZ's DVR if it meant saving money and reducing the number of boxes connected to my TV so I gave the Home Media DVR and try and sent it back to VZ only three weeks after I began using it.
Two years later I decide to give it a try again because it was being advertised as a bundle that would save me some cash.  I figured that bugs in the software would have been worked out by now so I didn't mind giving it a try again.  Well I've had the box since Nov 08 and im almost ready to throw it out the window.  Many of the problems I experienced the first time I tried the Home Media DVR still exist and thats very disappointing!
Unfortunately, I'm stuck in a contract with this stupid box until Oct this year but you can bet I won't waste a moment kicking these boxes to the curb and replacing them with my TiVos (thank God I kept them).
Unlike the Home Media DVR my TiVo's do not:
    - Arbitrarily fast forward when they want without my input.
    - Fail to respond to input from the remote if not pointed directly at the box.
    - Fail to recognize the input from the remote and do something else.
    - Have clunky fast forward and rewind.  TiVo is smooth and refined.
    - Have a tendency to jump to an entirely different folder after I delete a show in one folder.
    - Have options that are un-clear when deciding if the user has to decide if he wants to cancel an existing recording to watch or record something new.
And finally, my TiVos never made me so sick with rage that I dreamed of ways to make it feel the pain and frustration it was causing me.
As I've already said, I love my FIOS internet and TV service but the Home Media DVR has TOO MANY FREAKIN BUGS.  At this point I'm not waiting on wither VZ or Motorola to fix them; I'll just be waiting out my contract so i can send this damd box back to hell and place my TiVos back where they belong making me and my life much more happy.
    Rant Over!

Ya know, I like the fact that you can easily watch a show recorded on the Home Media DVR in another room in an instant.....But the negatives pop-up when you try to have any interaction with the box outside of stop and start.  If that show has commercials and you try to skip them the DVR has a really hard time understanding what the satelite box it telling it to do.  Then this odd problem I have with my box is that if im watching a show and I let it play straight through (not fast forwarding through commercials), it picks a point when it wants to start fast forwarding on its own and it doesn't stop.  So if I walk away during a commercial break its possible that when I return, it will have reached the end of the show.  (what the crap is that all about)
So while I like the instant satifaction the Home Media DVR provides in that sense, Its not enough to make me hate transferring a show using TiVo.

  • Recommend an Home Media Setup Using iTunes

Perhaps someone could point me in the right direction--an article or discussion that might give me some direction regarding setting up an "ideal" iTunes media server/client setup in my home.
Right now, I have a MacBook Pro with a 320GB hard drive that holds my iTunes media. I've got an AppleTV with a 160GB hard drive that syncs to the MacBook Pro.
My iTunes media collection is growing quite large (143GB), and it is starting to make less and less sense to keep my entire iTunes media collection on my primary laptop (as HD content becomes more standard, I see myself losing even more laptop hard disk space to iTunes media--especially purchased movies).
I'm beginning to think I need to move to more a "media server" model (perhaps based on a Mac Mini), but I'm not sure if this is the way to go. Does anyone know of an article or posting somewhere that overviews various configurations for a home media set-up based on Macs and iTunes. I'm just looking for some recommendations to guide me as I think this through.
+(I'm going to cross post this on the AppleTV forum ... sorry for the redundant post.)+

can't offer any articles, but i have a mac mini set up as a 24/7 "always on" media server.

    Mac Mini G4
Western Digital 1TB MyBook Studio Edition
works flawlessly. appletv is connected via ethernet and i just stream everything. no need to sync really.
the mac mini runs in a "head-less" mode (no monitor). i just administer the mini remotely via screen sharing or when i'm not at home via LogMeIn.

  • Next Firmware Update For Nokia 6303 classic Featur...

    A. Software features should be Hardware based not to Nokia Legacy as if 3.2 Megapixels Camera works like 6233's 2 Megapixels camera. In Nokia 5800 camera is just 3.2 Megapixels but the capabilities are fine, if Nokia has no logic to upgrade the Software for its legacy then why do Nokia has to upgrade the Hardware in Legacy Nokia Operating System? Like in case of 6303.
    B. Video Editor should be there in new update. A nice feature for creativity.
    C. .mp4 should be supported by the Recording Video Option and should be 640x480 @30fps. Why not if 6303 can play .mp4 but would not record, is there any logic even the Camera CMOS is 3.2 Megapixels?
    D. Lights Effect is a very good feature of 6303 and in my opinion it would be updated as another possibility to select it as Breather Light Effect such as Nokia 5800 XM, due to Silent Profile activated Handset Location assistance facility. User can find the set easily rather making a miss call to find out where the set is?
    E. 15 fps is not sufficient to play smoothly in PC or convert the Movie in any Application to play it in SETTOP Box or General DVD Players. it should be @30 fps to play in PC or after convertion in DVD player.
    F. Photo Editor should be included in Next Update as its not a justification to the Hardware rendered Engine limited by Firmware to edit the Photo and you get the jeggy .png. is not a joke performed in 6303?
    G. SMS writing Window space should be enhanced to accomodate the full Text Window so that a user can review easily in one Window operation not by scrolling again and again as now available in 6303.
    H. Display Brightness feature should be added to facilitate the user choice as the Hardware is supported in 6303's 16.7 M color LCD.
    I. 3D Ringing tone effects should be added and the Volume of Startup Tone should be increased to its optimal, in recent Firmware it is very low.
    J. SMS alert tone selection plays the tone in Level one Sound volume though the selected level is Five bar. it should be corrected in Future update.
    K. Smart selection of To (address field) in Messaging by converting the Input as Numeric for Text Message and Alphanumeric for MMS. In recent Firmware it is Alphanumeric by default for SMS as well as MMS, which is annoying for SMS Sending.
    L. Messages save in Memory Card or Phone Memory, option should be added.
    M. It would be a bonus if .wmv .dvx .mov video formats are supported by next firmware in both situations like Recording option and Playing formats support.
    Kindly notice NOKIA:
that by performing all above mentioned enhancements for 6303 classic, The 6303 classic would not become an N series or Touch considered Handset but it would justify its Hardware Capabilities selected by its manufacturer.
Its better to be legacy oriented NOKIA but the NOKIA OS legacy should be parallel with latest trends and Hardware based.
Its a good time to make better decisions towards connecting people with Modern Communications.
    With all the due regards!
    NOKIA's Loyal User. 6303 classic V6.40

Isn't this the same as setting "light Effects=On" in the settings? Mine "breathes" away happily after a missed call.

Where are you adjusting this? I can only adjust ringtone volume not SMS alert tones....

  • N80 & HOME MEDIA SERVER, HAS ANYONE ACTUALLY GOT I...

Has anyone actually got their N80 to connect to thier pc's using the Simple server home media server software, if so what firmware have you got on your phone and what access point / wireless router are you using ?.
My N8- connects to my network just fine and can browse the internet just fine too, and I can also query my N80 using a upnp test program and it shows up just fine using that so it shows the upnp is not getting blocked by anything, but some some reason it just will not show up in the Pc software and when you try to connect to the pc with the N80 all you get is searching for devices..........
When I quey the phone with the test program I get :
    Description: Multimedia Device
    DeviceType: urn:schemas-upnp-org:device:MediaServer:1
    FriendlyName: N80
    Manufacturer: Nokia
    ManufacturerUrl: http://www.nokia.com/
    ModelName: Nokia N80
    ModelNumber:
    ModelURL: http://www.nseries.com/
    PresentationUrl:
    SerialNumber:
    UDN: uuid:f0086e4c-f219-10e0-ae0f-0016BC7B14C
    UPC:
So it seems to be working......

its late and i have not read your post in full (too bad).
if you've got the server installed (plus UPnP enabled on your router) you should see your phone. if the server can see it you will see a large picture of the N80 there, check the tabs. if you can't do anything with it (like i experienced initially), make sure you got into your actual phones home network sharing settings. i have to share the phones contents each time i use the sever. this finally makes the server see the phones contents as it displays additional tabs once properly connected (i.e. copy to device, copy from device).
    give that a go.

  • Home Media (uPnP Client) N8?

Used to have a 'Home Media' app on my N82 which enabled streaming of media from a uPnP server (Orb etc) to the handset or to another uPnP client on my home network. Can't find anything like this on the N8.
Does anyone know whether there's a 3rd party app for doing this?

I too have the 5800 as my ninth Nokia H/Set.  Having looked into the N8 and HTC Desire HD I am now favouring the HTC because it supports DLNA/Upnp streaming.
I personally thnink that someone else has taken over the sign off of new designs and is an individual lacking the foresight of the previous designers responsible for the N95 etc.
Therefore when the system design list has been proposed their naivity, due to lack of experience, has resulted in theshortlist for final implementation to exclude the Upnp/DLNA app.
If I was in charge at Nokia it would be near top of the list.  Goodness it's even appearing in Tv's now, why oh why does Nokia keep back pedalling and then not moving forward in a better direction than before.  Poor show.
Anyways I probably will end up leaving the Nokia party soon for at least one of the competitors.  If Nokia donn't listen to their customers soon the might not have any...................

  • "Home Media Network Hard Drive - Cloud Edition": what is it?

I have a "Home Media Network Hard Drive - Cloud Edition".
I want to update the firmware (actually, I already did, but may have made a mistake).
When I go to the support page https://lenovo-na-en.custhelp.com/app/subproduct/p/1031 I find that there are two choices that have names similar to my unit's, but not identical.
Is one of these actually the same as my model?  If so, which?  If not, how do I get support for my model?  Why isn't this clear?
PS: These names are awkward, long, and confusing.  So long that I could not put all of them in the Subject.  Too late to change them now.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello HughR
See the below hotlinks for a picture confirmation of each device.
If the Home Media (Network Hard Drive) Cloud Edition (HMNHDII) is your device, then you would want to follow the firmware update guide from here.
If you have the Home Media Network Hard drive (HMNHD) then you should follow the firmware update guide from here.
From your post it seems you have the Home Media CE, the second generation of home media NAS.  The " Home Media Cloud Edition " link would be the correct link to access the support page for the device.
The names are long, hence the abbreviation from "Home Media Network Hard Drive - Cloud Edition" to just "Home Media Cloud Edition"
    Hope this all helps!
