Broken indexes ??

I am currently running an environment of 4 SunONE directory servers (version 5.2 SP3) on Fujitsu hardware and Solaris 8 operating system. There are 2 masters (using multi-master replicatoin) and 2 query servers.
Before I started anything, the 2 masters only had their default indices while the 2 query servers had quite a few extra indices
So, I first removed all non-system and non-default indices from all 4 servers, which seemed to work fine (i.e. the definitions were correctly removed from the relevant branch under the cn=config part of the tree and the .db3 files were removed from the server). Also, doing searches then certainly weren't fast !!
I then applied the new index definitions to all 4 of the servers in the new UAT environment, which also seemed to work fine (i.e. the definitions were correctly added to the relevant branch under the cn=config part of the tree).
I then ran the db2index.pl script on servers 2,3,4 (i.e. I didn't do 1 as I thought I'd leave it to accept any updates for the moment until the other 3 had finished) which seemed to work (i.e. the error log reported the indexing as finishing ok and the .db3 files were created as expected under the userRoot directory).
However, on performing searches against the instances then I am getting no data returned. I have tried this against all 3 servers. I've also restarted each of the instances.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this doesn't seem to make sense ...
The "db" directory from one of the query servers looks as follows :-
fuj363:/ze/sun5.2/slapd-lhrldap04# ls -lRa db

I don't have to remove/change anything with the "log.xxxx" or "__db.xx" files do I ??
The LDAP searches I do are as follows :-
bowling: {root} ldapsearch -h fuj363.baplc.com -d 5 -v -p 389 -D "cn=directory manager" -b dc=pathway uid=u759851
compile with -DLDAP_DEBUG for debugging
ldap_init( fuj363.baplc.com, 389 )
Bind Password:
filter pattern: uid=u759851
returning: ALL
filter is: (uid=u759851)

Also, if I look in the access logs while doing the search then it appears to log the search correctly (only not return any results).
On a working system the access log shows the following :-

Hi,
There are 4 servers ... say 01,02,03 and 04. The 2 masters are 01 and 02 and these replicate to each other, while they also both replicate to each of the query servers (i.e. 03 and 04).
The referrals are set up, which is done when you set up the replication. Both of the query servers process read requests and refer write requests to the masters (i.e. 01 and 02 .... although I will actually change this to be a service address that sits in front of the 2 masters).
On doing some more investigation this morning it appears that the indexes are actually mostly there but seem to have missed a few entries out ... in particular the one that I was doing the initial search on. Having asked around it appears that this sort of problem used to be prevalent in older versions of the directory when you reindexed on-the-fly (i.e. while the directory server was being used), so maybe its a case of having to reindex on a directory that is not being used (i.e. set it read-only before indexing) or do it via a full initialisation from replication ??
Any ideas ??
Cheers,
Darren

  • Questions about Indexing and Using an Indexing POA

Although I have only about 50 users, at least 15 of them have in excess of 100,000 messages in their accounts and the POA (version 7.0.2) is regularly slowing to a crawl. (I just know that plans for revolution are fomenting!) I have embarked on a campaign to reduce these accounts by archiving everything off to get mail accounts down to 3000 or fewer pieces. I have achieved user buy-in, but have worked on only a few users so far.
In another closely related thread, it was suggested to me that the PO speed issues relate to broken indexes. And I suspect that given so many messages, the indexes were never getting fully rebuilt with the default QF POA settings. I am trying to fix that situation in addition to reducing mail account sizes. So, I have set up a second POA on another server and dedicated it to the indexing task. The /qfinterval is set for 1 hour, other /qf switches at default. The POA-QF does no mail delivery, but it does do nightly user upkeep.
The POA-QF seems to be steadily working away and making progress at reducing the number of unindexed messages. However, I have questions about what I am seeing and what more I can do:
    1. Is the progress I am seeing real progress? For example I have a user with over 100,000 messages to be indexed and every time I check the logs, the count drops by about 500 messages per hourly QF cycle. I assume that if I just let it keep running, it will eventually get caught up and fixed. Not only with this user, but with all the others as well. Will my patience (and theirs) be rewarded? Are there any gotchas I need to prepare for?
    2. One user has recently had virtually all of her messages successfully moved to archive. I can see them in the Archive, and do not see them in the online account. However, now over a week later, QF still shows >130,000 items still left to index for that user. The POA-QF is making slow, steady progress reducing that number, but why is this user's QF count still so high? Does it just need more time, or is there something amiss for this user?
    3. I may want to rebuild indexes for single users from scratch. I have seen the TID 3105742 which tells how to do this: Essentially you turn off mail delivery functions, and make some other switch changes to dedicate the POA to indexing for just a single user, and then you let the POA rebuild the indexes. The implication of that scenario is that the POA is now enjoying exclusive access to the user's databases.
If I want to use my secondary POA-QF to rebuild a user's index from scratch, does the main POA have to be offline and the user out of GWise? That is, Does the QF process require exclusive access in order to rebuild indexes from scratch?
Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.

Set this switch for this indexing POA - /qflevel=999 - this will index
everything in one run. It will take a long time, but with no qflevel switch you
are indeed only indexing 500 messages at a time, and if the user has that much
mail, it might never really catch up.

This is odd, because really the index count should drop to nothing, but with the
above switch this might get resolved as well.

Not really - the POA is not enjoying exclusive access to the user's database,
the indexer is just avoiding an attempt to index anything else.

No - QF never requires exclusive access. That said, you may find that an
extremely vigorous QF can cause slowdowns for the user.

    ==================================
What am I missing? Working from Windows 7 install.

    Dear Unnamed Person,
It looks like cross-schema issues to me.
You do all your work in the HHLT schema and then, at the end of your script you do this:
    CREATE INDEX ELKORDY.BUILDING_SPATIAL_IDX
    ON ELKORDY.BUILDING(BUILDING_POLYGON)
INDEXTYPE IS MDSYS.SPATIAL_INDEX;Yet in your post you are:
CREATE INDEX HHLT.BUILDING_SPATIAL_IDXSorry, which is it?
Also, when you select from the metadata table it tells you that the BUILDING table is in SYS schema (SYS is the owner) but not in HHLT or ELKORDY!
    I suspect that:
alter session set current_schema = HHLT;Didn't connect as you expected - you are still the SYS user - so that when you did this:
    INSERT INTO USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA
    VALUES ('BUILDING', 'BUILDING_POLYGON',
    SDO_DIM_ARRAY( SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('X', 0, 820, 0.005),
SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('Y', 0, 580, 0.005)), NULL);It associated the metadata with the SYS owner and not the HHLT owner hence the error when creating the index.
    I would recommend you.
    1. Connect as the SYS schema.
    2. Remove the metadata object;
    3. Connect in a new session to the HHLT schema as the HHLT user;
    5. Create a new metadata entry in user_sdo_geom_metadata when in HHLT schema;
    6. Create the index (drop any existing broken index first).

For about 18 days or so our firmware repo was taken off line and customers were not able to automatically download firmware. The issues has been fixed. Note that during that time you still could have manually uploaded firmware.

  • Problems with mplayer (divx codec)

I'm using mplayer for divx streaming, but using the player i can't move the video forware or backware, just play and watch the entire video without the option of starting a video in other minute, or stuff like that...
What should i do to fix it?

Is this with one (or a few) specific file(s)? Sounds like a problem with the stream and/or broken index. You could try
    mplayer -idx
    or
    mplayer -forceidx

Does someone have the same problem? is it a bug?
    Thanks

The bug never appear the first time i "index repositories". It appear when the repository is indexed, and when i want to index it again.
I'm working on several project, using the sames repositories.
Can someone try to reproduce it?

  • Disk Utilization 100%

    Dear friends
We have problems of performance with the system SAP (HP-UX with Oracle 10.2)
The Disk Util is 100% and the GLANCE command shows that the oracleSID process is using a high disk.
The problem is when any process to access to

    Hi
we have similar problem few weeks ago. we are using HPUX 11.23 and Oracle 9.2.0.6.
many reason can cause this problem :
    -  write process (mainly) -- and read process too, that is not separated to some logical volume (or volume groups) but concentrated in one logical volume (or one volume groups). in this case write process will hit only in one LV ( or VG). to solve this, you must distribute write process into several LVs (or several VGs) so writer process will write evenly to the datafile in several locations. the same way when reading process from several LVs (or VGs) compared with reading in one LV (or one VG).
    - bottleneck in your I/O. you must discuss with your hardware vendor and storage vendor, if there is some bottleneck that causing this.
what have happened to us is broken index of the most table we have caused by system restore few weeks before. after we are doing index for suspected tables, our utilization in decreased.
    we are using command :
    sar -d 5 5
    to monitor disk utilization
and maybe nfile parameter (sum of files opened by OS at the same time) is useful to be monitored, using command :
    sar -v 5 5
    to monitor nfile parameter.
    hope it help you

  • Broken links with index keywords

Using RH 8, I have 20 broken links associated with index keywords. can someone advise how to easily get rid of these broken links?
    Many thanks

I assume you are talking about links to index keywords rather than unused index keywords. If so, you have references to those index keywords somewhere inside your project. Your options are to repair the links or remove the references. If you right click on each broken link there are options to Edit, Restore and Show References which will help you find out what is going on.

  • Broken Links Index Keyword

    Hello All,
I have a bunch of index keywords that show up under Broken
Links and I can't seem to resolve them. RoboHelp help has a topic,
"Removing topic references from keywords" but their procedure
doesn't work for me. If anyone has figured out a fix, let me know.
    M.S

Well, I think I got it figured out. This may not be the best
way, but I'll share it with the community anyway in case anyone
    else needs it.
    1. In RoboHelp go to Tools > Reports > Broken links.
    2. Save the report to a text file.
    3. Close RoboHelp (it'll crash later if you don't)
    4. Find the .hhk file in the project folder (back it up
    before starting)
    5. Open the .hhk file with WordPad.
    6. Copy part of the "Missing Topic" path from the report and
search for it in the .hhk file.
    7. When you find the keyword reference, delete everything
    between the <li><object
    type="text/sitemap"></object> tags.
    8. Save the .hhk
Note: after doing this, I had to restart my computer before I
could open a topic in RH without it crashing.

  • Broken Full Text Index

I just created a portfolio with 78 pdf documents. Some 4000 pages. The portfolio was created to give away for free on CD's. The index was built on the portfolio. The index was imbedded into the portfolio. When opened in Reader, the Full Text Index works fine on the build computer before the creating the CD master. The Index partially works on the CD. The part that does not work is searching itself. The search only takes 6 seconds with 16497 instances in 75 documents. (But the link to the portfolio page is broken. The names of the document found are displayed properly, but the Error Message-'There was an error retrieving text' is displayed. The cd's are made (Since everything else is working and the CD is at the duplicators) I have to go with what I have for this round. I am looking for a fix for the next batch and I am looking for a temporary fix to distribute through dropbox where I can download a new Full Text Index, an updated portfolio or both to those who received the CD at the conference. I thought I had a fix by going to 'Select Index...' and removing the indexes present and adding the correct index. That worked on the build computer but does not work other computers. This is what I tried.
    1. Copy the following files into a new folder on your computer. (You may name it.)
    Kodak_Catalogues.pdf
    Full_Text_Index.pdx
    Full_Text_Index (folder)
(You may copy the other files and folders but you do not need them.)
    2. Right Click 'Full_Text_Index.pdx' open with Adobe Reader
    3. Select 'Show More Options' at the bottom of the box
    4. Under 'Look in:" at the top of the box choose; 'Select Index…'
    5. Remove all index choices that are checked in black. Remove all indexes that are grayed out. With the 'Remove' button.
    6. Select the 'Add' button.
Navigate to the folder that the files are located in and select the file:
    Full_Text_Index.pdx
    7. Select the 'Open' button
    8. Select the 'OK' button
    9. Under 'Where would you like to search?'
Select the radio button: 'In the index named Full_Text_Index.pdx'
    10. Type in a keyword, I used 'Kodak' for my test.
    11. Results: should be 75 documents with 16497 instances.
    12. On my computer the search takes 6 seconds.
    13. Feel free to contact me at:  if I can be of further assistance.
    14. I apologize for not knowing about this issue.
This is my first portfolio. Because everything worked perfectly on the build, I missed this one. Thanks for any information that might help me solve the issue.

    Hello Dileep,
How have you Setup "Track changes" for the full text catalog, is it set to "Automatically" or "manually" ?

  • SOLUTION - Re-Index Loops when "Index Now" button is broken

This message is for anyone having trouble with Soundtrack's loop indexing in the following way:
    PROBLEM:
... You want to re-index some loops, or
... You want to de-index some loops, or
... Some loops are showing up red
    AND...
... You cannot re-index from the "Setup..." button in the Search palette (the minus button and/or "Index Now" buttons are grayed out for some unknown reason)
    *HERE IS THE POSSIBLE SOLUTION:*
... Delete all files from the following folders:
    Library/Preferences/Soundtrack/
    Library/Audio/Apple Loops Index/
... Now restart Soundtrack, and click "Setup...". All the indexed directories should be gone.
... You'll have to re-add and re-index your whole library. This may also affect GarageBand and/or Logic, and require re-indexing in them as well.
*If you're still having trouble...* there may be some more index files floating around your system. Open Spotlight and set "System Files are Included" and "File Name" in the search options and search for "search index". This should show you where any remaining Apple Loop search index files are located, so you can delete them. They will be named stuff like "Search Index E44B5969-5E4A-4E27-A3C2-E5861C5D1FB8.txt".
Hope this helps anyone else out there. It worked for me with Soundtrack 1.1 when my loops were all messed up.

Well, to add metadata and transients to sound clips you need to edit them in Apple Loop Utility which is included with Final Cut Studio.
To add custom loops to your permanent library you need to make a new folder like "My Loops" and put it somewhere permanent like in Library/Audio/Apple Loops and then index it with Soundtrack/GarageBand/Logic. Soundtrack uses the "Setup..." list and GarageBand you can just drag and drop into the loop browser. Not sure about Logic but it should be something similar.
If you wanted to edit the index files manually from the Finder, they are in some weird format and I don't think it's possible.

  • Can't open Mail, Index is broken!

    Hi, I need some help.
I don't use Mail on my iMac or Macbook Pro Retina but need it to run some AppleScripts, so I tried to open it on my Macbook Pro Retina and iMac but can't open it on either, it just comes up with the below:
    First:
To use the new features in Mail, your existing Mail messages need to be imported into the new version the first time you use Mail. this might take a few minutes. You won't be able to use Mail until the import is finished.
Click Continue to import your messages now, or click Cancel to import later.
If you click cancel, it just closes and if you click continue it does the below:
    The Upgrade Failed
An error occurred during the upgrade. Click continue to launch the Mail Import Assistant, which will help you create a new library and import your existing messages.
So I then click continue and this is what appears:
You Mail Index has been damaged. To repair it, quit Mail.
Mail will repair the index the next time you open Mail. Your mailboxes and messages will be preserved.
So I then click Quit. It shuts down and then if you try to open it again, it just does the same thing again and again.
I have managed to fix the one on my Macbook Pro Retina by following what some people suggested on other posts, what worked was deleting the com.apple.mail folder inside Library/Containers. And I haven't had a problem since but with the iMac once this file is deleted, it allows you to go through the whole set up for a new account and then goes into the same error pattern as mentioned above. I have also tried deleting the Envelope Index inside Library/Mail/V2/Mail Data and in the Mail folder too, but nothing seems to work.
Can someone please adivse as to how I can re set my Mail, there is nothing in there so it can be rebooted or something like that. I just don't understand why I have managed to fix in one computer and not in the other one !!
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sally

    Quit Mail. Then select
     ▹ Force Quit...
from the menu bar. A small window will open with a list of running applications. Mail may appear in that list, even though you quit it. If so, select it and press return. Close the window.
In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. Move the following items from the folder that opens to the Trash (some may not exist):
    Caches/com.apple.mail
    Saved Application State/com.apple.mail.savedState
    Application Support/AddressBook/MailRecents-v4.abcdmr
    Containers/com.apple.mail
    Mail
    Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist (OS X 10.7 only)
    Preferences/com.apple.mail.searchhistory.plist (OS X 10.7 only)
Note: you are not moving the Mail application. You’re moving a folder named “Mail.”
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail. It will behave as if you were running it for the first time. Go through the setup process with one of your accounts.

  • RH9 application help "Contents & Index" broken

I have been using RH9 for months now and I still fail to grasp how the RH9 application help is supposed to work.
When I click the Help button in the main toolbar, I am supposed to choose from the available options. The option that looks TO ME like "normal" application online help functionality is the first one, called "Contents & Index".
So I click it, and what happens? After a wait, what happens is that our default IE browser home page opens (which is our corporate intranet home page).
So what the blazes am I supposed to do with THAT? Does that sound like "Contents & Index" to you? Well it doesn't to me either.

And if you are on a 64 bit system, the path is likely to be:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Help\
Personally I'd be shocked if the AIR runtime wasn't installed. I believe it gets installed when RoboHelp (or the Tech comms Suite) is installed.
