Bt Infinity 2 Supposed Upgrade

Hi All
I'm new here so please be gentle.
I have upgraded to Infinity 2, Now this went live 2 days ago. I was already on infinity and pretty happy with my 25-26 mb down and my 8mb up but after inquiring it was roughly the same price for infinity 2.
So day 2 in, my speed on the down is slower by a couple of mb?!?!? and my up is about 15mb so thats quicker.
I never expecteded to get upto 76mb but having the same down as i had beofre just dosen't seem right.
Any thoughts suggestions (i'm still in my 10 day settle period?!?!)
Regard

What was your estimation when you checked the BT Wholesale availability checker?
If you weren't already getting in the region of 37meg it's unlikely that the 80/20 regrade would make any difference in your download speed.

  • BT Infinity 2 upgrade has left me without Internet...

After what was supposed to be a simple upgrade from ADSL to BT Infinity, I have now been without any broadband at for a week and have been subjected to undoubtedly the worst customer service imaginable…. Here goes.
Tuesday 6 June, an engineer arrived at my premises to perform a simple upgrade of my ADSL line to a faster fibre connection. After some time, the engineer claimed that it was all done and promptly left before I had a chance to check. I thought this was strange, but didn’t question him as I assumed there is no way a professional engineer would leave a job without properly signing it off.
How wrong I was, no connection whatsoever! Kicking myself for not insisting that we check before he left, I called him on his mobile, only to be told: “I dunno mate, I’m just the engineer”. Exactly my point, I thought – what an attitude to have! He then said he would call the help desk to find out if there was any reason for the lack of connection, and after some time called back to say that there was a problem in my area and everyone’s broadband was down – it should be back up in a matter of hours. OK, I thought – why would he lie?
A number of hours later – still nothing. So, I called an ‘advisor’. I was told that there was no record of a fault in my area - an outright lie from the engineer, to get rid of me no doubt (it was gone five after all!). The ‘advisor’ told me that the connection would not be live until midnight on the day of install. I thought this to be strange as this was the first I’d heard of this, seemingly crucial, slice of information.
Surely he wouldn’t lie to me as well? I awoke the next morning with high hopes of a working broadband service. Not likely.
Another call to an ‘advisor’ at 6.30am and I was told to expect a call back before midday with a solution. 1pm, still nothing, so I once again I manned the phone. An amazing, and very wasteful, 1 hour and 30 minutes later I had been sent around the proverbial houses, but was still no closer to a solution.
I think I must have been asked to “turn it off and turn it back on again” at least five times. Ever felt like smashing your head into a wall?
I tried to explain time and time again that, rather than treat this as a fault, it would make more sense to simply resend an engineer to complete the job the incompetent one could not… this was like getting blood from a stone. “But Sir, if we can just do a couple more tests”. At this point I had no interest in talking anymore, just send me an engineer.
By the end of the day (Wednesday 7th) I finally got a very reluctant ‘advisor’ to arrange me an engineer for Friday 9th June.
Friday arrives, as does the engineer. A far more competent chap than last time, who spent almost five hours trying to fix the line, but with no joy. I still find it absolutely baffling that this has all arisen from an upgrade.
After a valiant effort, the engineer gave up and said he would report it to the ‘tier 2’ team who would contact me, and he would also call back to confirm this.
Fast forward to Monday 10 June, and still not a peep from either the engineer or the ‘tier 2 team.’ I have no idea what BT think they are doing here, but leaving a customer in ‘limbo’ like this is ridiculous. Both my flatmate and I need an Internet connection for work and have been massively inconvenienced by this whole episode, soured further by BT’s seeming disinterest to get the problem fixed with any kind of haste or professionalism.
I understand there must be huge business benefits from moving call centres overseas, but sometimes it would be nice, particularly after going through all this, to speak to a UK based operator who would deal with my issue subjectively, as opposed to what sounds like reading from a screen - with ‘progress’ limited to whatever boxes one manages to get ‘ticked’. And, it will come as no surprise that as soon as I threated to cancel, I was switched immediately to a UK call centre, who although very helpful and apologetic, did nothing to help and transferred me back to, what I assume is, India. My head and the wall were getting quite friendly at this point.
After nearly a week without any Internet and numerous (very expensive) phone calls, I am at a complete loss as to what to do next, no one seems to be able to help me or offer a logical solution. Perhaps an engineer could come and reconnect my old line… maybe I am just not meant to have a fibre connection.
I do, however, feel that I should be compensated for the stress, hassle and phone bills. Not to mention the 6-days-and-counting that I’ve been without any BT service.  What do you think?

Yet another "victim" of BT's incompetent Indian call centre,
I think more a victim of BT's totally incompetent internal systems; and probably initially of Openreach's outsourcing to installation to companies that often provide untrained and lazy installers.
The mods should get things sorted. at: http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951 . But be aware they take 3 working days to reply: sometimes more if busy.  That is pretty poor in your situation.  They have a good record of getting things solved once they are on the case.
    Good luck.

  • BT Infinity 2 upgrade for business

    Hi
I have BT Infinity at my business premises on a business tarif and it works well. My router (Ive got a Draytek, not one of those nasty old BT ones!) is telling me that my attainable speed is 76Mbps however, when I ring BT and ask to be upgraded, they are saying that we can only get up to 36Mbps.
    Anyone got any clues?
Also, there doesn't seem to be anything on BT's website about businesses upgrading to Infinity 2? Is it something that can be done or not?
    Thanks

  • Infinity 'free' upgrade

So, I got a l letter from BT today saying that they were going to upgrade my broadband (currently option 2) to infinity for free.
Quote: "There will be no change to your existing contract term or charges - the amount you pay will remain the same."
Great I thought, I've been holding off switching due to the fact that they can't offer me any discount (at all, let alone matching the discount I get now) so now I can go for free.
However, because I was due to renew my term, I didn't want it renewing on the normal (infinity) price so gave them a call to see what would happen.
Well it turns out that the letter is VERY wrong and if I switched I would get no discount at all (just like before)!
So it seems like it was a generic letter sent to all customers on certain options ignoring any sort of discount.  Wonderful move as I'm sure once you signed up you'd never be able to go back.
Now, I got a usual apology about it and renewed on my usual option 2.  However, I suggest that BT sort out the wording on this letter, (or maybe it's intentionally misleading?) as it's certainly not what it says.
Just a word of warning to others who may have got this letter.

Thanks for the info. DS started a thread about this very issue as well.

  • Infinity 1 upgrade woes..

Ok, so I had Infinity 1 go live on Friday, had a pretty stable line over the weekend,36mbps down, 9mbps up, as sold to me, with few hangs, a pretty solid connection with few disconnections. Today, however, is an entirely different matter.  So far, I don't believe i've had i hour with a constant connection, and so far i've had 16mbps taken off my download speed. not a very impressive first weekend, that.
I can handle losing a few mbps, but nearly half the original speed gone? That's not good, really. I get that there is supposed to be a 3 day "settling" period, but why, after the 3rd day, do I lose half my speed? Had resets, new filter installed etc, still losing speed....

  • BT Infinity Cabinate Upgrade Availability

    Hi,
I am representing over 150 indivual appartments on a new development in Didsbury (Citipeak), and there is a strong interest for BT Infinity broadband.
There have been a number fibre cabinates installed on the road just outside the development (Wilmslow Road) and our local exchange (MR Dids) has been upgraded to supply fibre broadband.
It seems that our whole development has been overlooked by BT.
I would appriciate any contacts, information or timescales for the deployment of FTTC to our development.
    Thanks in advance,

  • BT infinity free upgrade?

    Hello,
I'm currently using BT broadband option 2, which is 40gb of usage per month. I noticed the upgrade to the 40gb usage for BT infinity is currently the same price, and on the BT infinity website it mentions that anyone with a 40gb or greater package will get a free upgrade to BT infinity when it reaches your area.
    I'm wondering
    1. How you go about getting this upgrade? Whats the implications of it etc.
    2. How much is needed to be installed? Currently my home hub sits about 15 metres away from my main phone socket.
    3. Will wireless devices connected to the home hub work at the increased speeds?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
1: Double check on http://www.bt.com/infinity to check that infinity is available for your phone line. Either proceed from there or contact customer services on 150.
2: In the simplest case your master socket will need it's front changing or the Master socket replacing. A white Openreach VDSL modem will be provided which plugs into the master socket, a HH3 will plug into the Openreach VDSL modem. The Openreach engineer has the ability to move the master socket if necessary. However, the HH3 can be located up to 30m away from the VDSL modem with a free data extension kit. It's all explained fairly well on http://www.bt.com/infinity and there are some excellent pictures of an install here:
    http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/BT-Infinity-Installation-Log/m-p/101355
3: Wireless devices may work at higher speeds. It depends on so many factors (whether you are using Wireless N, whether you have inteference, how far away your devices are etc.) People often report that their wireless speeds aren't much cop, but it's usually down to Interference. If unsure, always use CAT 5e/6 cable and ethernet. I have great success with Homeplugs and Infinity, but other people do not. It's a difficult question to sum up in a nutshell.
    Hope this helps,

  • Bt infinity 100m upgrade

If I decide to have bt infinity would I be able to upgrade or downgrade from Infinity 2 to infinity 100m or vice versa

Downgrade?? surely Infinity 2 is a downgrade from the 100MB package? if that is what your talking about.
If you have the option of FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) you should be able to upgrade or change as you please, although that may incur you taking out another contract with B.T.

  • VERY slow wireless speeds since Infinity 2 upgrade

I don't know whether it is just coincidence or not but ever since BT upgraded my Infinity Unlimited to Infinity 2, the wireless speeds on my home network have been ridiculously slow. With a wired connection I get about 55-65 Mbps download and 10-15Mbps upload typically, while on wireless it's a fraction of that. For instance, the last test I did gave 3.33Mbps download and 0.13Mbps upload! I have tried different routers, tried changing the wireless channels, tried turning off other wireless equipment in the house, all to no avail. The strange thing is, the wireless signal strength is showing good to excellent. The speeds I obtained when Infinity was first installed were typically around 20Mbps download and 7-8Mbps upload.
I have contacted BT India and they said they were going to run some tests today, but I can't imagine how they are going to diagnose this problem remotely. Has anyone any ideas about what could be causing this and how I can go about finding a solution?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I am rather hoping that an engineer will be able to confirm whether or not the wireless signal is being degraded by interference and if so, what might be the cause and/or the general direction it is coming from. I have carried out all the tests I can do on my own, such as changing channels, routers, etc and turning off any other electronic devices in my home that emit radio signals, but nothing has made a jot of difference. All I know is that until a couple of months or so I had a great wireless signal, but now I do not. I can't find the cause without the help of an expert (i.e., BT engineer) coming to check what is going on. If BT are only interested in providing a good signal by ethernet cable, then they shouldn't be adverting on the TV how great their HH3 is at distributing a wireless signal around the home if it only works like that some of the time or for some people.

I have an iphone4 and that I have had for four years and they are saying that I am not eligible for an upgrade until the end of July 2015. That is four years and 3 months after I purchased this phone. "Customer service" said I had an upgrade at the end of July 2013, which I did not. She said that in the system my husband took an upgrade July 29th 2013. He didn't even have a Verizon phone, he had a work phone with T-mobile. I have asked what device he supposedly upgraded to since no phones have been activated and we all still have our same phones and numbers. Remember at the time, said husband had a work phone with T-mobile. I still have the very same phone as do all of the rest of my family members. No one has upgraded. I spoke with "customer service" for more than a half an hour today, Char promised me that her supervisor (Emily) would call me back by 7:30 tonight to clear up this problem. Well guess what? No call back so where should I go from here? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help.

someone swapped upgrades.  Phone could have been sold For quick cash.

  • Why my Logic Studio 9 (upgrade) does not install Soundtrack Pro, sound effects etc..?

I just bought Logic Studio 9 (latest I suppose) upgrade version. Now I figured out that it does not allow me to install for example Soundtrack Pro, Sound Effects etc... How can I install them?
Logic Studio 8 was not installed prior to install because OS X Lion does not allow me to install logic studio 8.
What should I do now? Complete uninstall OS X and only update to OS X Leopard?

    Hi
You have either moved the Applications or re-named them. For the updaters to work the Apps must be named "Logic Pro" and "MainStage.

  • 50L7300 upgrade doesn't work

WOW! I went through 24 pages here and couldn't believe how many different problems were described and hardly any resolution was offered by Toshiba.  I bought this brand and model because others didn't have wired network connection and VGA input that I needed.  I was pretty happy with it, until I heard a buzz at certain voice frequencies during a talk show or documentary.  Although part of the problem was a cable on the back panel touching the TV housing, something in the TV still resonates sometimes.  This is clearly a sound problem, the tech wanted to replace the motherboard. After removing the motherboard he found that Toshiba sent him a different board so he put the original board back.  I bought the TV last November, the warranty expired and now "an upgrade is available” message comes up every time I turn the TV on.  You can select yes or no if you want to do the upgrade.  Needless to say the "upgrade" doesn't work, it downloads the files 100%, starts the "upgrade", blue screen, upgrade in progress, 1%, green light blinks and then nothing happens, the TV is back where it  was before, never completes the supposed "upgrade", no message to that effect. Toshiba can't find a resolution, the Help desk in Manila have no idea, they tell you to leave the TV on for hours during the "upgrade" and they will call you the next day to see if it completed...  You guessed it, he didn't call back and when I called again "JR" said he would tell the supervisor and he would call me back in 20 minutes... Two days later he called back but he had no idea what the solution was. They also gave me the phone numbers of two Toshiba authorized service agents, Video Doctor and Precision TV. When I called the former the tech said that you have to replace the motherboard that costs around $300. The latter would come out and charge $105 just to run diagnostics or $39.99 for a call… Toshiba’s suggested manual USB upgrade didn’t work either and second level support (supervisor) asked me what brand I used and try another brand of USB drive as part of the process of elimination before he can escalate it to the factory engineers..,. I guess their idea of support and problem solving is not the process of elimination but the elimination of process until the customer gets tired and goes away… I will never buy a Toshiba product again, I will stick to the best: Sony, Panasonic or LG…

I totally sympathize with you! I had a very similar experience like a year ago with version 7.whocanremember. I was an idiot and I deleted itunes and had a **** of a time trying to get it reloaded. I had tried to downgrade with zero luck. I don't think you will be able to. When you install that new version you see that little window pops up that says updating library. Have you tried just reinstalling 7.6? That is what I am going to try. I've got an interesting problem that I will probably be posting if a reinstall doesn't fix it. Good luck to you!!

  • HT5037 photo library upgrade has hung up my iPhoto program and library

I got this message to upgrade my photo library, and it has made my iphoto inoperable. I get a continual spinning circle in the center, while it is supposedly upgrading my photo library. I can't select the Quit button on the upgrade message, and I can't close the program.  If someone knows how to get out of this inconvience I would appreciate the advice

Force quit, backup your iPhoto library, depress the option and command keys, launch iPhoto and rebuild your library

  • Forced upgrade caused me to lose my albums and lots of photos

    hello
i store most of my photos (about 7,000) on an external hard drive. last night i went to look for some specific photos, which were in various albums. i did this by starting iphoto with the option key held down, and "telling" iphoto to find my library in that location. a warning came up telling me that iphoto needed to update the library in order to open it. so i did. now when i go to that external hard drive, all the albums are missing. and lots of the photos are missing too! the albums are still located on my computer's iphoto location, but they are empty because i transferred all the photos that were in them to the external location.
before i upgraded, everything was in place on the external hard drive - all my photos, located in their appropriate albums. now, no albums, many missing photos. HELP!

hi and thanks for your response.
its 4.0.3 (not 4) - sorry, my mistake
it did tell me i needed to upgrade, and the supposed upgrade took about 1/2 hr.
here are some answers to your questions:
(indiscriminately move files (and/or folders) from the iPhoto Library folder.)
i moved the entire photo library to an external HD, rather than separate folders
(Moving an album folder in Finder doesn't do anything other than make it impossible for iPhoto to find those links it expects to find.)
i never moved any albums to another location, just the entire library folder
(started iPhoto while holding the option key to select a different "album".)
i opened iphoto w/ option key down to select another iphoto library. i do this so i can "point" iphoto to the external HD location, where the enire library is stored.
i have 3 libraries - one on my laptop, two each on separate hard drives.
i also have some new info, which may make this discussion a non issue - when i open iphoto and direct it to external hard drive #2 - my entire library of photos shows up, including all the albums. (WHEW!) i'd like to know why iphoto responds completely differently when i direct it to HD#1, but we do not have to research this since i have a good backup. if not, this will just be another weird computer mystery to me. regardless, thanks for your time!
    best, patti

  • Upgraded to CS4... Arial now missing in CS3

A few of us in my company are testing Snow Leopard and CS4 before upgrading the entire department. I was blessed with my new machine, programs and OS this Friday, and in the midst of the transition I'm still working in CS3 because of a Tuesday deadline. With multiple people, CS3 users, accessing the same files for various edits and use (i.e. people familiar with these programs and people who are definitely not) we felt it would be easier to begin saving as an InDesign Interchange once the storm blows over. This will allow us proper time to explain to those individuals that the "INX" file is not a corrupt file... it will open just fine in CS3.
My issue involves the fonts we use for these files. When told that until next week we need to do our updates in CS3, feeling there would be no issues, I opened the file in CS3 and was told Arial TTF was missing. Strange, since before I upgraded it was fine. I found that my system had Arial OTF, so I replaced the TTF and saved a version on my desktop. After testing it with a random employee, it showed up as "missing" when she opened the file. Of course, I knew what the outcome would be, but testing it was my first thought.
I understand how to replace missing fonts.. but that's not an option in this case. These particular files, like I said, are used throughout the company. Until we upgrade everyone, continuing to use Arial TTF would be ideal. At the moment, in the midst of our deadline, I'm destined to deal with updating the files with a missing font in CS3 and printing in CS4.
Once we begin saving the "INX" files from CS4, will I be able to use the accepted OTF on my machine, save an Interchange file, and have every TTF user open it on their machines with no problems? Or are our new machines, programs, and OS simply not going to be compatible with TTF --- only OTF? Once everyone has upgraded, using OTF across the board should eliminate any issues, although most outside of the art department will only upgrade to CS4. They will not have their OS upgraded. Until we cross that bridge, can the four of us CS4/Snow Leopard users simply deactivate the OTF and active a TTF? I haven't had time to test at work. Since upgrading late Friday, I have returned home frustrated, trying to figure out a solution before I return this weekend.
The joys of testing... new OS, new CS, new iMac = priceless. Resolving conflicts, not so much.
Any suggestions or insight would be highly appreciated!

    Jayscee wrote:
I've had the same problem of missing Arial TTF fonts since upgrading to Snow Leopard.  I'd always used Arial TTF and still have Arial TTF fonts in the system library and my library font file, but InDesign 4 only finds Arial OTF.  If I delete the OTF fonts then it finds the TTF fonts, it just doesn't seem to cope with having the two fonts - it's one or the other.
I find it's a real pain in the arse with old files that used TTF fonts having to be converted and not being able to copy and paste between new and old files.  Even using "find font" and "replace with"Arial OTF only replaces the actual characters, there are still spaces left which when typed in results in the Arial ttf font being used which of course then gets highlighted as a missing font not found.
I can't believe that supposed upgrades are so buggy.  If anyone nuts out a real fix I'd love to know what it is as swapping fonts from folder to folder has not worked for me.
I feel your pain. I'm beginning to think it's their way of making everyone buy the new product! Ha.
