Bt Infinity 2 Sync Speed Issue

Hi
I hope someone can point me in the right direction after hitting the stonewall which is the offshore BT telephone support.
I have had Infinity 2 for 2 years plus and for the majority of that time the router was generally syncing up at approx. 50-55mb. Over the last six months this has arbitrarily been chopped back to 48-49mb, then 44-45mb and on simply moving the router and powering it back up this week another drop of 5mb to approx. 39mb. Putting a filter direct into the socket today to test that has now made it drop to approx 37mb.
This never seems to remotely recover to anywhere near the speeds I had for a long been receiving.
I have done the quiet line test using the 17070 and it seems perfect to my ears.
The horrendous BT telephone support won't move from the party line of: "your point of line speed was 37mb and we are delivering that so you are within acceptable levels of service for your connection". To the point that the only option they give is to put a formal complaint which I sense is completely pointless.
The data throughput has always been great but is obviously directly related to how fast the router is actually syncing up at.
Have the Home Hub 5 attached at the moment to see the sync stats.
From today:
The router is connected via a BT Openreach master socket. Have tried using a filter direct, changing dsl cables, using the old BT Openreach modem and WAN port. Have even tried a Asus DSL-N66U router which for some reason would only sync up at about 30mb.
Is there anyway to improve the speeds again or am I stuck with the "you getting what we guaranteed at point of sale" line?
Thank you.
Andy

With those speeds, it could be financially advantageous to downgrade to Infinity 1 as your line will not support Infinity 2 speeds, or at least, not enough to be paying the extra for.......

  • BT Infinity 2 Link speed issue

    Hello guys,
It's the first time I'm posting here so I hope I'm doing everything correctly.
I have BT Infinity 2 with the new Home Hub 5 since May. I live quite close to the cabinet, so my link speed has always been the maximum achievable (77.8/19.8). Real speed on 75/19, quite impressive.
I have never seen any sync issues, disconnections or sync rate dropdowns. Not until today.
This is ADSL checker for my number.
Since about a week, I've lost about 10 mbits. These are the current BT Hub details. Looks like I've been downgraded on "Impacted".
Is there any way to check my line and see if there are problems or stuff like these? In 3 months has been perfect!

    Hi,
My line is stable so does not loose sync, plus I usually do not turn off the Hub overnight.
I did that on friday night, and left it on since saturday when I woke up (very late). Nothing has changed...
The BT Speed Test also shows an horrible upload speed, that however is not true. On Speedtest i manage to get 63/18, with a slighlty higher ping than usual. I've always managed to get 75/19 (or more)

  • BT Infinity connnection and speed issue

Last saturday (1 week ago) My internet went off for a couple of hours. It came back on around 9pm. then every day for the next week my broadband went off some time in the afternoon and came back on around 9pm. I checked the service status and there isn't any problems in my area but my broadband kept going off. I tried the call centres but i may as well just ask my cat what is the problem.  Now when i run a speed test im getting 18mb download and only 2mb upload. How come its dropped speed so much. When i first started with Bt Infinity i was getting 45mb download and 20mb upload, it dropped after a few weeks to 26mb down and 10 upload. Its been at this speed for months but now its dropped to 18mb down and 2mb up, which i am not happy with, why is this. I havnt changed anything in my house setup and i allways use wired connection. Thanks in advance for any help

If the disconnects have stopped your line will now be seen as being stable and the DLM will start to increase the speed again. This can take up to 3 weeks to get back up to where you were. If you are still getting disconnects you will need to establish what is causing them. This could be anything from a problem at the exchange, the cabinet or your line. As long as the problem is not within your property then BT should check it out and repair free of charge. If the fault is within your property there will be a charge.
It is therefore in your own interest to eliminate problems within your own property.
If you are still getting disconnects then take a note of when and what happens when this happens... does the modem go off, does the homehub go off,  do lights flash on either modem or homehub, is it just wireless or ethernet etc etc. This will help to try and diagnose the problem.

  • Syncing & speed issues on MTP Zen X

I had thoughtlessly 'upgraded' my Zen Xtra 30GB to MTP firmware. Nomadsync doesn't work anymore !!
I am in a big soup now as I use Zen as the primary store of music and do all iD3 fine tuning, new transfers, deletions etc on it through my laptop which does not have any capacity to store music. I backup to my office PC whenever I go there as I have spare HDD capacity .
Forget about syncing ID3 Tags only, all other softwares - (Creative, WMP etc) do not even sync full tracks properly BOTHWAYS.
They do not delete tracks in syncing, nor do they overwrite an older PC track with a newer ID3 edited track from Zen (or vice versa) during Sync.
Notmad appears doubtful as per the info available on their site (syncing does not appear to be important to Notmad) . They have not bothered to reply to my mail.
Strangely, media source has now become the slowest browser amongst all such programs (Explorer, media Monkey, Real) !!
Can any one recommend me a good syncing software?

You're getting some really bad advice from Eddy, who I don't believe for one second is actually an Apple representative.  Clearing Safari's cache and twiddling Java preferences won't affect performance for all apps across the board, and zapping the PRAM isn't remotely an appropriate fix for this sort of problem.  As to his advice about deleting all your mail, note that I have every message I have sent or received since 2005.  You shouldn't keep them all in the Inbox, but telling you to delete them rather than filing them away in other mailboxes is bad advice, and again, wouldn't do anything regarding performance in any program other than Mail.
If you are still having some problems, check your hard drive space.  You need to have roughly 10% or more of the hard drive free.  Try repairing the hard drive with Disk Utility.  I doubt RAM is the issue if you've observed the behavior with only 3 apps open, but just to be sure, open Activity Monitor when things get slow.  Go to the System Memory tab and compare page ins and page outs.  Page outs should be less than 10% of page ins...  if it isn't, you probably could benefit from more RAM.  Also in Activity Monitor, look for processes using large percentages of the CPU.
Those are just a few suggestions, post back if you're still having problems.

  • ADSL to Infinity, poor sync speeds

    Hi all
We've just switched from an ADSL connection to Infinity 1.
Our ADSL connection was mediocre as we were pretty far from the exchange. Stats were something like:
    Attenuation: ~50dB
    Downstream: ~3800kbps
    Upstream: ~1100kbps
We had Infinity installed yesterday. Stats are as follows (from HH5):
    Line attenuation: 0.0 / 29.2
    Signal attenuation: 0.0 / 22.8
    Data rate: 1156 / 6558
    Maximum data rate: 1164 / 6477
    Noise margin: 6.5 / 6.1
I'm pretty disappointed with this. I wasn't expecting miracles, but given the significant decrease in attenuation I was hoping for a bigger increase in downstream than from 3.8Mb to 6.5Mb, and certainly wasn't expecting upload speed to stay about the same!
Our downstream prediction prior to install was about 20Mbps. Plugging my attenuation into a VDSL2 calculator site gives ~16Mbps (using the line attenuation) or ~21Mbps (using the signal attenuation).
Surely there is something amiss here? Should I wait for BT's DLM process to complete or is the problem likely to be within my house?

The DSL checker is working now:
    FTTC Range A (Clean)
    Downstream: High 29.2, Low 20.3
    Upstream: High 6.5, Low 4.6
    FTTC Range B (Impacted)
    Downstream: High 23.3, Low 11.4
    Upstream: High 5.7, Low 2.5
    Current HH5 stats are:
    Data rate: 797 / 6881
    Maximum data rate: 1201 / 6939
    Noise margin: 18.3 / 6.2
    Line attenuation: 0.0 / 28.8
    Signal attenuation: 0.0 / 22.5
The line resynced yesterday morning and dropped the upload from 1164 to 797. No idea why I now have this massive upload noise margin as the line has been perfectly stable.
Clearly something is wrong as I'm getting 6.8 downstream compared to the most pessimistic estimate of 11.4 for an "impacted" line, and 0.8 upstream compared to 2.5.

  • Increase in attainable rates and sync speed

I've noticed that my line is now syncing at 79999 down and 20000up, lasst week, and for the past 6 months the attainable rate has been 60000 down and 15000 up,
I'm still only getting 71000 down via the bt speedtest and 9000up, getting slightly better results on bbc though.
Also noticed my latency to the bbc is down from 25ms to 21ms
have there been any changes to the network or is this the DLM deciding that my line is good enough to handle higher speeds?

I don't think your line will improve even more, as you are at the limit of your package.
If you look at your modem stats you will see both sync rate and max attainable rate.  The max attainable rate will only change significantly if something changes in your line.  The sync rate will change as DLM thinks fit.  If you see your max attainable rate is over around 90000, then maybe you could get more stable sync rate if BT offered a higher level Infinity package.
DLM will always keep your sync rate below the max attainable for stability.  For reference, my values are a good but not perfect:
Max: Upstream rate = 23773 Kbps, Downstream rate = 81184 Kbps
    Path: 0, Upstream rate = 20000 Kbps, Downstream rate = 73999 Kbps
Down Up SNR (dB): 7.9 14.5
Over the month or so I have been monitoring, my max attainable has dropped slightly, from just over 85000 to values around 82000.  My sync speeds have gone up a lot to reach their current appropriate value, because I had had a previous wiring issue that had lowered my DLM.

  • New Infinity User - Reduced speeds

    Dear all,
As a fellow BT Infinity user, I thought I will share my experience with you.
I got my BT Infinity option-2 (unlimited) installed on 27/09/2011 with a white box modem and Home Hub-3.  The BT Engineer said that I should get approx. 33.9mbs downstream and 8.6mbs upstream (as stated on my BT order) and would take up to 10days to achieve this speeds.
When we did a speed test using a wired connection on http://speedtester.bt.com the reading was approx 15mbs downstream and 7mbs upstream. When I queried the less than half downstream reading, once again the BT Engineer said it would take up to 10days to get the required speeds. Then we did a couple more tests and the line speed was ranging between approx. 11 – 19mbs downstream and 5-7mbs upstream.
I then called the BT broadband support and updated them with the speed issues and once again I was told to wait until 10days and I’ll get the speeds specified on the BT order confirmation. So I waited for 10 days….
Now 10 days have passed and nothing has changed. I have already done several speed tests (wired connection) and logged my results with BT. Called BT support and they say to wait for another 10days and the speeds will increase.??
My speeds are still raging between approx. 11-19mbs downstream /  6-7mbs upstream.
I have read some forum suggestions to contact the mods. Is this (contact form) the right form to fill in and send to the mods ?
    With kind regards,

Yes that's the correct form, include a link to this thread. A Mod will respond in a couple of days.

  • I think my sync speed is stuck or been capped

Hi everyone, last week i had a full line reset because i started dropping in speed, from 16meg al the way down to 9meg, at the time time of the reset my sync speed went to 12.5meg, 24 hours later i was down to 9.494meg down and 1.12 up, im supposed to be on another 10day training but nothing has happened, meaning the hhb3 hasnt switched off or resynced since i dropped to 9.4meg, now after 5 days of constant connection there was still no change so i did a something to try and make my speed drop but nothing happened, it still synced at the exact same speed 9.4meg, im certainly not rate adaptive and i cant have any line issues or my speed would of dropped after constantly plugging in and out the socket and making it resync, so the only things i can come up with is that ive either been capped or the exchange has got stuck for some reason, ive even gone through my entire extension wiring and changed it to cat6, it made my line attenuation lower but no change in sync rate heres my speed test and hub stats.

Thanks for your replys, believe it or not my line as been more stable, meaning alot less disconnects, infact very rare since i last had the snr reset, it auto changed to fast when mods manually reset the snr a month ago, i think it sounds like a joint or something, def not my internal wiring, its all brand new as of today and theres no change in sync so, the prob lies else where, i tried to tell bt before that theres some kind of fault between the pole and the exchange last time my speed dropped when i was on adsl max, it dropped to 300k i think, i rang up for a mac code because they wouldnt acknoweldge the fact and gottalked into adsl2+, everything went well untill 3 weeksago(around that time) i was up to 16meg sync, i posted it on here, after opening my big mouth my speed started to drop so i had a manuall snr reset, that solved it for a while, then i had that bad weather and it all screwed up, like i said previous, about 10-20mins before the reset my sync dropped to 1meg and line attenuation shot up to 65db, after the reset i had 12.5meg, 24 hours later i was down to 9meg, person on the other end of the phone at bt said my minimum sync should be around 12meg

  • Sync speed / IP profile

Apoloogies if this is a daft question,  or has already been asked before -  but just noticed something interesting on my Infinity 2 connection via : sync speed is 75.9 but ip profile is 73.46.  I thought ip profile controlled download speeds?  Or am I talking about completely different things.
    Many thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

They both control speed in different ways.
The sync speed is the speed of the low level connection between the cabinet and the (white Openreach) modem.  That is determined by the cab and the modem, based on the rules of Digital Line Management (DLM).
The ip profile is a limit imposed at the exchange (or somewhere near there) on the higher level (PPPoE) connection between the exchange and the (black HomeHub) router.  The idea of the IP profile is to prevent your data being sent from the exchange to the cabinet faster than the cabinet can pass it on to you.  The IP profile is automatically set from the sync speed whenever a high level connection is reestablished.  It is set to a value just below the sync speed (around 96.8%), to allow for certain overheads.  The actual download speed will be at best a little less still because of yet more overheads.
The sync speed is automatically adjusted when the low level connection breaks, or when DLM decides to give you slightly more or less speed (usually in the middle of the night to limit disruption).  Often a break in the low level connection forces a break in the high level connection, and so the IP profile is automatically reset when the the low level sync is reestablished.  Quite often the high level connection is not broken and continues despite the new sync speed.  This results in a 'stale' IP profile.  If the new sync speed is lower, you will only get the lower speed as that is all the line can (for the time being) manage.  If the new sync speed is higher, you won't get the benefit as the IP profile will act as a throttle.  For that reason we often suggest people disconnect and reconnect the ROUTER (NOT the modem) each morning if they suspect there might be changes; to force a profile reset.  If you have an unlocked modem (as you must have) and can see the sync speed, then you can tell more exactly when a mismatch has happened and thus whether such a disconnect/reconnect is needed
You will see from your figures that the IP profile is correctly set for the sync speed.

  • Drop in Sync Speed

Over the past few weeks I've seen a drop off in the Sync speed of my broadband and the Noise margin increase from 6dB to 8.5 dB.
I was connecting at 6Mbps but now it has dropped to 4.5Mbps - is there anything that I can do to get it back to what it was?
Everything has been fine with the connection itself - it has been rock solid in that it hasn't been disconnecting.

Looks like your target margin has moved from 6db to 9db, this is the values that equates to the initial noise margin needed for a stable sync.
You need to contact the mods on this site (click on one of their profiles for the link to them) and ask to have the targer margin reduced.
They may want to see a period of stable connection first but it is worth contacting them now since it takes them 3 days to reply normally.
A 9db target margin should give more line stability so unless you know what the problem was that caused it to increase (normally a series of resyncs, the default being 10 in 60 minutes) then you may want to check for a line problem first since otherwise if it is set to 6 it may go back to 9 again because of an underlying issue.

  • ITouch Sync Speed to Vista Laptop

If I just connect my Itouch to my laptop and add new tunes via Itunes then the sync speed is very slow. However, if I also connect my old Ipod 30Gb video at the same time to any other USB port the Itouch sync speed increases dramatically! Much faster - almost as quick as the old Ipod. Is this an Itunes issue? It's a bit weird as the old Ipod syncs correctly on it's own. The Itouch has the latest - 3.0 - firmware.
    Regards Graham

This ABSOLUTELY solved my problem... everyone having hang up problems check this out! It worked perfect. Thanks for the help man... Hope itunes have this fixed soon.

  • ATV sync speed super stupid slow.

How quickly does it take you to sync one 45 minute TV show from your ATV to your computer? Mine takes me about 45 minutes. Is this normal? If not, how can i speed this up? I have a wireless Linksys router that hasn't been slow transferring files from my MBP to my G5, or any other capacity. If it is the ATV, why does the sync speed blow?

Well, it's new in that it's always been this way since i bought it new. It's just always seemed slow. It took about 2 hours to sync 8 shows from X-Files Season 2 last night. That works out to being about 2.5 GB, but that STILL seems super slow for this network. I have no issues streaming, so i wonder if this length is supposed to happen.
Now, just to be clear, i have a wireless Linksys router (WRT54G V8). I'm pretty savvy re: computers, but i'm a bit weak on networks, so it might not be optimized. I know sometimes my handheld phone can interfere with me streaming to my airport, but only when it is in use.
Otherwise, the router is hardwired to a Comcast modem. Thoughts?

  • Downloads slower than sync speed

I got connected a few weeks ago an happy with the sync speeds. 73 Down 19.9 Up The problem is no matter what I download I can't go over 55Mbit I have done a few speedtests and can't get over 55Mbit. Is there something wrong with my router or the line? I'm have a DSL N68U.
    Here are my stats

    TimCurtis wrote:
The problem seems to be with your profile - from the BT speed test.
DLM has set your sync speeds , although perhaps a little lower than might be expected, at 73k. From that you'd expect the profile to be at about the same figure, but yours is a lot lower which is the problem I'd guess.
Exactly what I was thinking. I was under the impression that with the current set up and under normal conditions ADSL2+ should set the downstream IP Profile to 88.2% of downstream sync and VDSL2 should set it to 96.8% of downstream sync.
Take my example. My line is capable of VDSL2 speeds of over 80Mbps. I'm on Infinity 1 so my downstream sync is capped at 40Mbps and my modem does sync at that. My downstream IP Profile is 38.72Mbps (exactly 96.8% of sync).
    Kas,
Your stats show that your line is capable of 102.66Mbps. You are on Infinty 2 so your downstream sync has been capped at 80Mbps and in fact is currently synced at 73.46Mbps (possibly due to some slight noise on the line?).
However your downstream IP Profile is 57.71Mbps which is only 78.6% of sync. When downloading data via the internet using IP you will not get a speed greater than this limit. That explains your test results.
So the question that someone more knowledgeable might be able to answer is why the IP profile is set so low compared to sync speed?

  • Broadband Speed issue(s)

So, i've been having issues with my broadband speed for around a year and you've sent out 7 engineers to "definately this time, no doubt about it Mr. Ritchie fix it this time" ... FINALLY just over a week ago, the issue seemed to be resolved and i was getting acceptable STEADY sppeds of around 3MB. Last night, to my dismay the issue returns AND my phone line is out of order (constant hi-lo tone) though i am getting a slow/intermittant broadband. I called and their answer was, can you guess? "send an engineer!" ... SERIOUSLY???? You'd think the other 7 previously that said the issue was at the exchange would have been enough?? (or am i being unreasonable after almost a year, 7 Engineers and countless hours being re-assured by someone from India that "it will be fixed definately this time, Mr Ritchie, I understand it must be frustrating..." AARGH!!!

So, i missed a call and received this reply...
"I tested your line today and it's showing a sync speed of 2880 kbps with an IP profile of 2500 kbps, so it looks like that has improved since the weekend. I also checked your line and couldn't find a problem with it at the moment.
Were you having some bad weather when this fault occurred? If the fault is intermittent, it may be related to some bad weather if a joint gets wet."
Yes, the line speed is GREAT during the day, but come 5pm it drops dramatically, especially Ping responce in online games!
The line is back up and running (about 30 mins after i posted); there was some heavy rain, but "joints getting wet", don't Cod Liver Oil capsules get rid of that? ;p
The speed was fixed for a couple of weeks (something about changing me to a new card/profile or something) but now it appears to have reverted back to it's old ways ...

  • Speed Issues

    Greetings and Salutations,
I'm having speed issues with my Adobe AIR application. From what I've read on the web, AIR is supposed to be fast at drawing graphics. I am writing an application which has multiple screens. On one of the screens I have a tab (SuperNavigator) which has a canvas on it. That canvas has a series of other canvases (built with a repeater) that have graphics in them. I am having speed issues when I have more than 50 of these children canvases. I've tried running it without the graphics (code below is without the graphics) to see how it performs. When I have 954 of these canvases being drawn it takes about 2.5 minutes to draw. This is unacceptable and I'm wondering if this is something I've induced or if AIR was never meant to handle such a large amount of canvases (actually this isn't a large amount, in a real world environment there could be a lot more). I've included relevant clips from the code. There are a couple empty boxes that in the real application will hold graphics.
The class withing the Tab Navigator is a canvas.
In the action Script (the setter line takes 2.5 minutes to get past) (it's binding to the repeater that seems to be my problem).

The Canvas is a very heavy object that has lots of overhead.  Even worse is the VBox object that is in there multiple times.
What exactally are you trying to accomplish?  Just looking over the code, it seems that the same could be done directly with the Graphics API, at a much faster rate.
For each of the VBoxes and Canvases you have, the entire size of each child and parent need to be re-evalulated each time you add or change something.  This is a HUGE overhead, and probably why the app is running so slow.  You may need to convert this app to use simpler objects (UIComponent or something lower-level like that) to get any speed.
Are you using Flex Bulder?  Take a look at the app while the Profiler is running to see what I'm talking about.
