BT or TalkTalk

Hello, In July I can get BT Infinity 80/20 or TalkTalk 80/20 now TalkTalk uses BTs Fibre Network so there would be no diffence in speed, so what do you think I should do TalkTalk is probably cheaper. And if I go with TalkTalk I will probably buy the Draytek Vigor.

Interesting post...  I am currently with TT and all going well should be able to get fibre in June.  I have thought about switching to BT but am not sure.  The support forums at TT are second to none in my opinion and are similar to these very forums.  Telephone support is pretty terrible, whether it's customer services or tech support doesn't matter... again comparable with BT from what i've read.  Cost is obviously a major factor and I believe TT is cheaper, albeit dependent upon the package you've chosen.
At least with TT you can negotiate your monthly costs (see TT forums for examples) I dont believe you can do this with BT?
You can also pay your line rental up front for a year which works out at £9.50 per month, saving £60 a year.
On the downside... TT's billing system seems irratic with customers being billed over & over again for items that should be discounted etc etc although this hasn't happened to me.
Also, you pay an extra £5 for the 80MB product (£10 for 40MB) per month where I believe it's free with BT!
As the previous guy has said it's your choice.  They are very similar in so many ways!
For me i'll stick with TT but only time will tell whether this changes.

The error I see is you did not specify the proper authentication for the smtp server.
In the Mail preferences for the account, smtp popup, select Edit SMTP Server List.  A sheet will drop down.  Select Advanced tab on that sheet.  You should, I assume, set the Authentication to password, and set the proper username and password.  That's where the poper would be set if 587 is not the one you should be using.  Maybe it is.  I only bring it up since I see it trying to use port 587.
If you got this stuff already set correctly then I don't know.  Mail has a problem in your setup.  Maybe delete the account and recreate it from scratch.

    Hi
Currently all versions of F-Secure Internet Security / SAFE will bluescreen with Windows 10 starting from Windows 10 build 10130. Only the beta version of F-Secure SAFE ("fs protection") is compatible.
We know what is causing the problem and are working on maintenance releases. The products will be updated before Windows 10 launches.

  • I am having trouble accessing webmail on TalkTalk (formerly Tiscali) using Firefox 5.0 and TalkTalk tell me there is a compatibility issue?

I had no problem with my previous version of Firefox and I can access my TalkTalk/Tiscali webmail using the latest IE browser. I am able to sign in but cannot access the mailbox contents. When I asked TalkTalk about the problem they have stated the following "If you are unable to access the mailbox using Firefox version 5, then I would like to inform you that there is compatibility issue with Firefox version 5 and Talk Talk webmail, due to which you are getting the above error. You can also try uninstalling the latest version of firefox and then reinstall it to the earlier version to resolve the case." May I assume that between you this difficulty will be resolved? I would prefer to use Firefox and do not wish to revert to IE.

Apparently TalkTalk mail will work with Firefox 4 and Firefox 5 ''if'' you set the browser to ''lie'' to TalkTalk mail by saying that you are still using version 3.6.
You can find the instructions for that in a post on the TalkTalk forums: [http://www.talktalk.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=185113#post2452787 Firefox 4 & TalkTalk webmail - Forums].
Note: when you open about:config the first time, it will display a warning message that you should be careful with the changes you make. That's definitely good to bear in mind.
    Does it work?

  • Screen Sharing and Talktalk UK

Apologies if this duplicates what others have said. I've spent a lot of time trawling through here but I'm wondering particularly if the problem I'm having might be related to talktalk, my dad's provider.
    1. I have an intel iMac running leopard. Comcast is my provider.
    2. I can screen share both ways with my father in law in Rochester NY. He's on Roadrunner and has a G5 tower running leopard.
    3. My Dad is in the UK with a split new macbook running leopard. He's on talktalk. I can share my screen with him but HE CANNOT SHARE WITH ME. When we attempt to do this, "screen sharing with <me>" comes up on Dad's screen, and we both get the audio connection, but at my end the small window with "connecting" just hangs on the screen. Wheel goes around endlessly, etc.
Because I can connect both ways with my father in law, I am assuming the problem is at Dad's end (although I'm not sure). Here's what I've done:
    1. Our quicktime streaming speed is set at both ends at 1.5 Mbps, although I've tried the default too.
    2. Bandwidth is 500k at both ends, although we've also tried none.
    3. Firewall -- We both added ichat as a specific app and this actually made things worse -- when I tried to screen share a "failure" message came up on screen, and we couldn't video chat either. We both then reset the firewall to Allow all and at least then we could video chat.
    4. UPnP is on at both ends.
The only thing I haven't tried at his end is the stuff I've read on here about Anonymous Pings, but it's really hard to do this when dad doesn't really know computers and when I don't know what the Huawei (this is his router) menu looks like.
Dad also has an Apple airport router which he as yet has not connected up. I'm wondering if he installs this between the Huawei and the ibook things might improve (I'm hoping against hope, really!).
Any suggestions, folks? Any ideas gratefully received.
    Thanks,
    Dr D

My guess is that your problem is not with your set-up but with TalkTalk. In my experience talking to my parents, who are also on TalkTalk, they tend to throttle their network for non-web traffic to the point where it's barely usable (if at all). For us, iChat usually exits the connection attempt with an "insufficient bandwidth" error message.
We have had more luck with Skype, but obviously that does not help with your screen-sharing question. Other than trying to change ISP, all I can think of is to try "calling" at less busy times.
    Cheers,

  • No Longer Able To Access TalkTalk Account Details or Webmail On iPad3.

When I try to log in to 'My Account' or 'Webmail' via Safari on my iPad3 the screen hangs. I seem to remember on my first unsuccessful attempt that a message appeared regarding cookies not being enabled, however, my cookies were enabled and now I have set my iPad to accept all cookies, still to no avail.
I have five accounts with TalkTalk and am experiencing the same problem with each account. I have tried using Google Chrome but still no luck. There does not appear to be a problem with the iPad mail app collecting mail from TalkTalk but I cannot access webmail directly nor can I access or view billing.
I am able to access all areas, however, from my MacBook Pro and Desktop Mac and so the website itself is obviously working OK. My sense is that this is either a cookie or possibly flash content issue.
Has anyone else expreienced a similar problem? Incidentally, I have already tried resetting the iPad and clearing all cookies and browsing data.

Excellent, well done. I have to say that talktalk were useless, they repeatedly sent me instructions for setting up an emil account and did not seem able to understand that it was the login that would not work. Thank you.

  • Why does v5.0 not work with talktalk (tiscali) webmail, this is really causing me big problems?

When I try to log into my tiscali webmail service on www.talktalk.co.uk the box opens but then I get a message "you have undefined new mails in your inbox" and then the system just hangs until I log out. I can't access my mails !! The word "undefined" should be a number, e.g. you have 20 new mails and I should then see my inbox. I can still access mails via IE6 but it's so slow it's awful and I need to go back to Firefox.
This happened as soon as I updated to v5.0 Firefox !!!!!

It appears that there are a lot more tiscali/talk talk customers that have this problem but as usual talk/talk will take forever to fix it.

i am and have used firefox for some considerable time and am abig fan!when fire fox 4 was introduced i tried it out and was impressed with the uprated performance.BUT at age 70 was introduced to computers and internetby.my bro-in-law same age was computer literate and set up my system with tiscali.it was stable and if i got into trouble because we both ran XP we could communicate despite living 70 miles apart.i for my part ran tiscali web mail service because it was clear and enabled me to keep my various interests in folders and was simple. i loaded firefox 4 but it would not load the web mail. i reverted to 3.16 and my webmail service loaded and i was able to carry on despite you system constantly imploring me to upgrade to f-f 4.unfortinately my bro-in-law died a year ago and I entered into a sevice with PC advisor published by "AGORA business publications" it was whilst i was trying to implement some of their tweeks to make XP run in concert with windows 7 from a dvd called "windows advisor" when up popped firefox 5 so i thought i would give it another go BUT same result in box quote "you have undefined new mails in your in box " how do i get them out? sorry but at 78 its past my bed-time!

i want to direct mail from outlook to talktalk.

Do you mean Outlook, the application included with Microsoft Office, or Outlook Express, the application included with Windows XP, or Outlook.com, the new incarnation of Hotmail/Windows Live Mail?
Does talktalk have documentation on importing mail? Or on forwarding your old address to your new address?
I suspect Firefox is not at the center of the process in any case.

I have logged onto the talktalk website put in my tiscali email address & password, it logs me on but where it usually says you have xxx new emails it say you have undefined new emails but will not go to the inbox. Superb advice R&W!  My email sending block using TalkTalk started 2 months ago using Snow Leopard, continued when I upgraded to 10.8.2, and has been persistent on my wife's new iPad (IOS 6.1).  Implementing your wise words has fixed all that, and now enables me to call her on FaceTime — previously only she could call me.  Thank you so much; this will save hours of further fruitless searching and phoning.
Please remember that your email is now insecure, if you wish to have a secure connection SSL must be on and port 25 should be avoided.
