BT wire hanging off wall...

Hello,
Our BT drop wire seems to be hanging off the wall
I have had a look at it and it doesnt seem to be proper BT cable, so either BT ran out of proper cable or the previous owners thought they might do some DIY on the BT network and install it themselves.
It looks like a cheap flimsy ''no make'' 2 pair cable, doesnt even have the manufacturers print on it
Maybe it's the cable that's slowing our Broadband down as I've previosuly reported?
How do I go about getting the cable sorted out?
Not sure whether there will be a charge or whether we would be accused by BT for fiddling with the cables.
Thanks

It's OK...
I'll fix it back to the wall myself as knowing BT they'll want £130 for a new cable or a repair.
Infinity is coming to our area soon, so I'll wait till then and get the engineer to change the cable as part of the upgrade

  • Pages hanging off display screen

Even with a window minimized as much as possible, my pages hang off the edges of the screen by several inches.
What do I need to do to make the corners of my monitor and the corners of a page the same?
For instance, right now I see the apple Logo top L, the green, red, yellow buttons all off screen to L with this page centered on the screen.
It's been this way a long time, but it may be noteworthy that over TG, hooked it up to hd TV and did mess around with the display in system pref; right now 1920x1080 is checked. But this problem predates that setting.
    Advice?
    Thanks!

  • Dumb L2 only switch hanging off of L3OOB managed switch

I have an issue where I have a dumb layer2 switch (netgear and Linksys) hanging off of a 3550.  Devices on these ports loop during the authentication process, or don't even go through it, the simple get left in the AUTH VLAN.  I do not have any port security setting turned on on these ports, and have all of the IP Phones and Printers in the filtered devices list.  Any ideas why this may occur?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Is it that you only have IP phones and the printers that are in the filtered list on that unmanaged switch? If that is the case this should work fine.
If you have PCs as well that are controlled by NAC then it will cause the port on the 3550 to go into the unauthenticated VLAN where it will authenticate and then switch to the access VLAN. If you have more than one PC connected then it will cause a MAC Notification to be sent to the NAS causing the port to go into the unauthenticated VLAN once again.
Do you have the "remove other out-of-band online users on the switch port when a new user is detected on the same port" enabled? (OOB Management --> Profiles --> Port --> Your switch profile). If you do, uncheck it and try again.

  • Wire Hanger out of the Headphone jack?

Think this will give my iPhone at least 1 or 2 bars? Maybe I should wrap it in aluminum foil...that won't take away from the looks at all, will it?
I will say, I have one heck of a iPod sitting here

I was with Verizon and it was flawless. I was under the impression that after 5+ years with Verizon's full bar service no matter where I was that cell phone coverage had greatly improved with technology...man was I wrong.
I thought Apple was strong enough to pick a partner they KNEW would work across the board. What kind of deal did Apple and AT&T make? Can you imagine the money? Think any of it went into improving the Network for one of the biggest Technology launches in history?
They could have had it all. Imagine if all the people on this forum jumped on iTunes, activated, got 4 bars and were happy? Of course there would be 1% of the people trying to plug the usb cable into their toasters but thats going to happen. Not a mass disappoint from the Apple faithful like this.
I sell Apple to everyone who will listen to me, now I have to tuck my tail between my legs and look the other way because my iPhone has been AT&T'ed into the ground

  • Cannot map or even see drives on xserve RAID hanging off a xserve

Sorry if I sound like a complete idiot, but when it comes to Macs I am one. We have a OS X Server 10.5.8 and a xserve RAID. The RAID looks ok and under the server I can see both of the RAID drives that have been created and access them. When we try to map to it on one of our house Macs, its errors out with "There was a problem connecting to the server." When we try to map to just the root of the server, we can see its hard drive, but not the RAID drives. Any help would be most appreciated!

By default, Mac OS X Server only shares the root drive.
In order to share external volumes (such as the XServe RAID volumes) you need to use Server Admin to mark the volumes as shared (as well as which protocols to use).

  • External case for HD

    Hi Everyone,
My mac is stuffed internally to the brim with HDs and I want to add one more. On my internal Sonnet Card I have one more place to attach an HD. I've done so and ran the one cable out the back and attached it to to the drive, which, for minor protective reasons now sits in a small cardboard box. I'm using an OWC Universal Drive Adapter to power the drive, with more attendant wires hanging off.
Inelegant to say the least. I would like to put the drive in a powered case while still having it connected to the Sonnet card. Anyone know of something I cold use that isn't very expensive?
I have a My Book USB drive and a Seagate Free Agent Pro FW drive. I wouldn't mind gutting one of these if I could stick my HD in there. Is that possible?
    Thanks in advance.

You could have an external (firewire? I assume) that has either an ide drive or a sata drive.
How would one find that out? Seagates site is a maze. WDs I'm not even going to try now because I can't seem to fashion a search term for, "What kind of hard drives are in your products?".
These both look not too high on the quality list, but I'm wondering if one might do. The SATA cable out the back of my mac can't be helped, but if one of these enclosures provides power to the drive and allows me to connect the cable to my drive, while providing protection, one should do ok.

I'd love to replace one of my 300gb velociraptors with a TB disk of equal, or preferably greater speed (15k maybe?), but they don't make those yet.
    Thanks Tom.

  • Answer to some of the K7N2 problems

Well I've had to go thru three weeks of mind numbing pain and 30 dollars worth of sending back RMA's.  Your board is dead.  Probably because you followed the manual like I did.  The bluetooth connector does not go where the manuall says to plug it in.  It goes where the where the manual says to plug in the front usb connector.  Does MSI not even test there manuals?  Needless to say after 3 weeks and $30. I will not be buying MSI again.

It maybe the board.  I have the delta.  The manual says to plug in the bluetooth to the pins that are closest to the amr slot.  One time I got the board powered off quick enough that it didn't kill it, but at the time I wasn't sure what the problem was.  I powered it on one more time with nothing connected to those pins it ran fine.  I plugged the bluetooth in again and I could smell the smoke.  After that when you it the power the fans spin for a second but die.  Can anyone else confirm this.  Am I a retard? Does it not say in the manual to plug the front usbs into the pins that are in the blue package and to plug the bluetooth ( blue connector on diag) into the pins that are directly next to the amr.  There are also no directions as to how that blue plug fits on those pins.  I had the end with no wires hanging off the end not plugged into anything.

  • Off the wall V-mod Idea??

I got to thinking which is never good   I wounder if this would even be possible? (This is where i need input from you) I have no idea why or how i even came up with the crazy thing but got to thinkin that it just might work?
Could i take the 3.3v like of the molex connector,  tie in a few resistors and lower voltage down to about 2.0v then soder the wire coming off the resistor to the back of mobo to give CPU more power.
    1.  Would i be right saying this could work??
    2.  Would the voltage back feed in the system and damage caps or chips on mobo?

    well, ahve a look anyway.
you might find that, for example. that board uses the exact same v-core controler chip as the nf7 ... in which case it shouldnt be to hard to make the same mod work for your board.
if your feeling brave - dig up the specs for whatever chip does the controling on that board. and work out if it works ona  system like "v-core sence pin = voltage in from cpu, over 10 ohms. the lower the current seen, the more output fromt he regulator" if so, find the whatever value resistor, replace it. your done. instant volt mod. obv wont be as simple as this, but you get the idea.
the last resort i can think of, is to focus on makign those volts you have do more for you. eg, add extra capacitors, to smooth the output, run thick ol wire from the end of the regulating to the voltage pins on abck of socket. this kind of thing. Certainly, people see, or sued to see, good gains by feeding aditional lines to the regulators. eg, the classic 5V mod from te old KK266 was jsut get some THICK wire ,and run from 5V on atx header to the 5V in on the first stage of the power regulation. increacing the voltage a little (say .02v) thru reduced loss.
    actualy...
    http://www.ocinside.de/go_e.html?/html/workshop/pinmod/amd_pinmod.html
    pin mod.
selec the DEFAULT V-CORE you want with a pin mod maybe that will help. good luck - aparently this will alow .05V more.... lol

  • How do I connect directly to external wall speakers with my iPhone

    Hi All,
In the shop where I work they have a couple of speakers built into the wall. There is a wall plate where a person could connect to these speakers with a stereo. (two wires for each speaker) Can I connect directly to these speakers with some sort of a breakout wire coming off the iPhone's 3.5mm headphone jack (suggestions) or the iPhone's dock connector (suggestions). I just want to listen to random music from my iPhone and I really don't want to buy a speaker system for my iphone for this location.
    Thanks,
    KDC

No. The iPhone doesn't have the power to drive speakers. If you can get to the input of the amp that feeds those speakers, then you do what you want.

  • Fax not sent.  Modem hangs up before transmission

I have been searching the forums and not found an answer to my problem
I have tried fax software from several different companies . All have had the exact same problem. I suspect the problem may lie in the modem itself
Every time I try to send a fax. I hear dial tone. I hear and see the unit on the receiving end pick up. I hear the recognition tones, and then my modem hangs up.
Which software I use or how I try to send the fax seems to make no difference.
I am connected to the internet vie Ethernet with a DSL modem on the same phone line
    Please help

    Hi DasColeman!
You cannot be connected to the Internet, while you are sending a FAX.
You must use a Dial-Up connection, to FAX.
Not all DSL Cable Modems can be configured to send a FAX using the Panther 10.3.x FAX function.
Review this KB Article Can I fax with my cable, ADSL, DSL, or ISDN modem using Mac OS X 10.3?.
I have DSL as well, and when I want to send or receive a FAX, I disconnect the Ethernet cable from the Mac Ethernet port, plug a wire from the wall jack to the Internal Modem port on the Mac.
I have a two port Splitter/Filter plugged into the wall jack.
The Cable/DSL Modem wire, is always plugged into one of the ports on that splitter.
When I want to use the FAX function, I plug the telephone wire into the other port, but I do not unplug the Cable /DSL Modem.
The Splitter/Filter may not be a necessity. If you don't have one, just unplug the Cable Modem wire from the wall jack, and plug in the telephone wire.
I then set the Network System Preferences, back to the Internel Modem, deselect the Built-in Ethernet, selecting Internal Modem, and dragging it to the top of the window.
This of course will disconnect the Mac from the DSL connection, and you can then use the Internal Modem to send or receive a FAX.
Also review this Topic Faxing, for additional tips.
Additionally, when you enter the recipient FAX number, use this format 1-area code-xxx-xxxx.

  • Does verizon care if I cut the copper wire?

I had FIOS installed a few months ago. When the tech came out I confirmed at the beginning of the install that he would disconnect the old copper wire, I didn't want it after the FIOS install. At the end of the install the copper wire was still up and when I asked the tech about it he said he doesn't disconnect it, he said that in case FIOS isn't the next big thing that he leaves the copper in case we have to go back. I know that after he installed the FIOS line that the copper wire still worked. I had interent and when he was trying to get the phone hooked up via FIOS he was using the copper wire to talk to some people. I don't really think I need the copper, so I want to get rid of it. I don't mind cutting the wire off the house but what do I do with the wire hanging from the pole? just wrap it around?

Now, I am wondering why you would want the copper removed?
In the meantime, as I wait for that reply.
    You are aware that:
Once copper is removed to get back on slower DSL speed to save money, it might cost you money?
    For example at http://www.broadbandreports.com/shownews/88075
    Quick quote
When he tried to reconnect POTS service via a competing provider, he was told by Verizon that a new NID would run him $3,000.
Hint, hint. Are you sure you would to do that?

  • KT4 Hangs on boot

    Hi all,
I have a problem with my KT4. Everything was fine this afternoon. Everything was working perfectly.
I come home, plug the new rig and boom... nothing.
So here's my spec for a start:
    KT4 Ultra
256 MB DDR 333 Micron (I know it's not tested but it was working...)
    Athlon XP 2000+
    Lg 52x
    Aopen writer 16x
    D-Link dfe538tx
    Enermax 450w
So just before going from work, I tested everything one last time and the computer was booting no problem.
I come home, change the cd-rom drive and then, the system hangs on.
If I check the leds for boot, it hang on at
    Processor initialization
I've tried another cpu, same thing. But the cpu is detected corrrectly.
I've took out the memory, video card, everything. To no avail.
I've tried to clear the bios, well, you get the drift...
I'm out of ideas and I don't want to rma the board (no computer for the weekend  ;( )
Does someone have an idea if it's a setup problem or a board problem??
    Thanks guys,

I don't know why it's doing this to me, but it happened when I connected the compu at my home. I suspect a faulty wire from the wall to the computer.
Anyway, everything is ok and I'm really glad there is nothing burned, faulty or not working.
    Thanks for time.
Hi, does the problem stay everytime when you boot the PC? What BIOS settings did your friend change?

  • Speaker wire tags/labels

WE're about to switch our Home Theater around, and will be running surround sound speaker wires through the walls, instaed of those wire/cable channels, and it would just be great to have tags/labels attached to the speaker wires so that we will know which wires go to want input. Thank you in advance.

What we're looking for for is something more permanant, so that we can leave on each run. But, thank you anyways for your reply.
I've had the orginal tape on my speaker wires for over a decade now. It's made it through three sets of speakers and 4 AVR's. It's cheap, easy, and effective. You could go buy a labeler or some 'speaker wire labels' if you want, but for something that's going to stay immobile and hidden you're really just paying more than you need for fanicer tape.
There's really no need to overthink this.

Do you know which iMac model family you have? There are four families dating back to 1998. Troubleshooting depends on that. This forum covers the first three families made from 1998 to 2005. iMacs newer than that get a separate forum.
Do you have the system disks that came with the computer? If so, and depending on model, you may be able to start from the CD/DVD and then make the jump to booting normally.
All computers has a little battery on the logic board that holds date, time, and some important startup parameters when the compuer is taken off wall power for a short time. If your battery was very old and died, then the settings the computer needs to start may have been lost when you unplugged it. For some Mac modles, booting from a CD or DVD gets around this temporarily, but ultimately the battery needs to be replaced. The internal batteries are cheap but can be hard to access on some iMacs like the G4 "desklamp" model

  • The query HANGS for ever!

    hi,
we have types which extend other types. We need this as a part of a framework in db. Over the paret type are the queue (oracle AQs) defined.
Intermitantly, on few databases, when we try to create a type extending the same parent type with the queues running, the create type script just hangs off for ever.
WHy does this happen? more importatly intermitantly?
is there an approach to debug such issues? or get things working by killing some sessions etc.
Any ideas/ pointers .. please help.

TNS for Linux: Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production

    thank u for the reply.
Is there a way to figure out what objects are pinned. and if i figure out them then how do i un-pin them?
But i have a type extending a type. To the best of my knowledge the objects created over types are locked (or pined). The paret type is just a declaration/ definition of how the object has to be created.
