Building of a Robust Spline Profile Filter using Labview

Hi Thank you to anyone that followed me here from my previous post.
I am looking for some help with the building and implementation of the above mentioned filter. I have the mathematics attached. I will have access to Labviews Digital Filter Toolkit in a couple of days.
The purpose of this filter is to create a mean line through the peaks and vallys of a surface profile.

Hey Simone,
I have used some basic labview code to generate a couple of matrices and I've done some basic calculations, I was hoping to show you how to implement them. As for the spline filter there is on in the DFT, if you press CTRL+Space bar it will bring up LabVIEW search (this takes some time to load) the type spline and you should find it.

  • Building SCADA software for substation automation control using LabVIEW

Hi, I would be interested to know if anyone has built or developed a SCADA software for substation automation control using purely LabVIEW and its add-on tools (beside NI LookOut). The SCADA software, somehow similar to WinCC, should fulfill basic SCADA function for substation such as monitoring and interlocking control of CB and DS (single/double point), generate event or alarm list which includes information such as topical/not topical, valid/invalid...., archiving, redundancy, etc.

    Hi Remzi,
    Thank you for your information.
I understand that the DSC Module is a tool capable of developing monitoring and control system. Using the module would enable me to build a SCADA software (similar to LookOut) according to my requirement. But I think it's quite a difficult task to design and build a SCADA software from the scatch. Unlike a SCADA software, the DSC module is not really a SCADA software where user can directly parameter the I/O points and graphics via GUI. I've actually tried the LookOut software, but found that it's not really suitable for substation automation & control field. Hence, I would be grateful to know if anyone in this field has developed similar SCADA software for substation automation.
    Best Regards,
    Edmund

  • Problem with tutorial; "Build a Web Application with JDeveloper 11g Using "

I've got a rather new installation of Vista Business x64 on my developer rig, and last week I installed the new JDeveloper 11g version. The installation was all-inclusive, no customization on my end.
In addition I've got a test installation of an Oracle DB 11gR1 on an available server here.
To familiarize myself with the new JDeveloper I decided to spend some time with the JDeveloper 11g tutorials found here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe11jdev/11/index.html.
I've started twice on the second tutorial, "Build a Web Application with JDeveloper 11g Using EJB, JPA, and JavaServer Faces", and find myself repeatedly stuck at step 19 in section "Creating the Data Model and Testing it".
It seems impossible to deploy the application to the default application server. The server starts fine on its own, I can access it via the admin console on port 7001 and it looks good. However, when I try to run the HRFacadeBean funny things are happening, symptomized by the following error messages seen in the IDE log-area:
    The "Messages" pane displays:

I'm not that familiar with these things but it seems to me that there is an issue with port numbers here. The application seems to expect a app.server service at port 7101, but does'nt find one.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be appreciated?

    Jupp,
It fails in a similar way.
What I did was; create a simle 'Hello World' html file, saving it with the jsp extension. In Jdev11g i made a new application and an emtpy project, then loaded the jsp file and made it the default run-target. This compiles nicely.
When running the project it first attempts to start the WebLogicServer (WLS). After a few minutes it is started as seen in the "Running: DefaultServer" pane:

In the "Messages" pane, however, things are not looking so good:
    Context: MakeProjectAndDependenciesCommand application=TestAppJsp.jws project=TestProjJsp.jpr
[7:20:49 PM] Successful compilation: 0 errors, 0 warnings.
[Application TestAppJsp is bound to Server Instance DefaultServer]
    [Starting Server Instance DefaultServer]
    #### Server Instance DefaultServer could not be started: Server Instance was terminated.
But, of course, the server is actually running as I can access it via its Admin Console.
So, I try to run the project again, and this time the following is shown in the "Messages" pane:
    Compiling...
    Context: MakeProjectAndDependenciesCommand application=TestAppJsp.jws project=TestProjJsp.jpr
[7:26:39 PM] Successful compilation: 0 errors, 0 warnings.
[Application TestAppJsp is bound to Server Instance DefaultServer]
    [Starting Server Instance DefaultServer]
    #### Server Instance DefaultServer could not be started: Server Instance was terminated.
The "Running: DefaultServer" now comes up with:
    C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\base_domain\bin\startWebLogic.cmd
[waiting for the server to complete its initialization...]
[Server Instance DefaultServer is shutting down.  All applications currently running will be terminated and undeployed.]
    Process exited.
The WLS is still running though as I can still access its adm console.
To me it seems that it is attempting to start a separate instance of the WLS for each run attempt, but then I could be wrong.....:(
Later I'll try to change the default WLS port from 7001 to 7101 as suggested in another port here.
I must admit that I'm a bit surprised that the JDev11g doesn't work fine at this very simple level when performing a default install.

  • Camera Calibration - which Profile to use?

This is a spin out of another thread in the forum - How do I avoid magenta discolouring?.
I am using a Lr 5.7.1 on OS X Mavericks (10.9.5) and photos from 3 cameras - Nikon D600, Nikon D40, and Canon 450D - they all exhibit a very similar behaviour with RAW files described below, but it much more noticeable with the Nikons and very noticeable with the D600. I have been using Lr since version 3 (I think but I might have started with version 2, I cannot remember).
By default I have always imported my RAW files leaving the profile under Camera Calibrations as Adobe Standard. I have been moderately unhappy with the results I was seeing in Lr, not with all the images but with quite a few of them; in a nutshell they don't as I envision them and they don't look the way they look in camera. With "the way the look in camera" I mean inspecting the histograms and clipping warnings.
I am fully ware that Lr does not read the picture control settings of any camera, my Nikons have always being set to Standard.
Below are 2 screenshots from a photo taken with the D600.
    1) Histogram with Adobe Standard profile
    2) After and before view, left "Adobe Standard" right "Camera Standard"
There are 2 different images, the histogram is changed, the greens are render differently. I also know which one I'll pick for further work, the right image, the one with Camera Standard as the profile.
Back to the question for this post: Camera Calibration, which Profile to use? (and why?)

    ssprengel wrote:
Which profile to use is a matter of personal taste, so why does it matter what other people use?
I am not sure I would agree with this statement without making some important qualifications.
Camera profiles can be used for creative purposes, no disagreement there. However, I don't think this is the sole purpose of camera calibration and camera profile, isn't it? Jeff Schewe, who sometimes contributes to this forum, wrote in The Digital Negative "The profiles are designed to calibrate a particular camera model's particular colour rendering intent [...]. It's entirely possible that your particular camera might be a bit different from the one they profiled, so you might be able to make a customer profile for your camera that would produce a more accurate rending than what comes with Lightroom and Camera Raw"; the quote is taken from his section on Lightroom Camera Calibration and leads to conclude that the purpose of camera profiles is also to reproduce the colour rendering intent of camera.
My point on the original post is that it seems that Camera Standard, with both my Nikons set to "Standard" picture controls, seems to better reproduce the colour rendering intent of both cameras, specially if greens are involved. All I am looking for is advice regarding best practice. This is absolutely non trivial from my point of view, best practice is not a matter of personal taste as I am sure you know. Insisting that default settings are best practice, I am not saying you are saying this, is not helpful.
    ssprengel wrote:
As to your question about making Camera Standard the default profile, you do it the same as customizing any other LR default:  by selecting an unedited photo, setting Camera Standard as its profile, then on the keyboard use Alt - Set Default…  (the button was Reset before pressing Alt) then confirm that you want to update the LR defaults to the current settings.
    This is correct.
    ssprengel wrote:
I am not sure how to find photos with a particular camera profile but perhaps one of the filters in Library can do that, or a smart collection query.  I don’t have LR in front of me right now to try things, myself.
I don't think this possible. I cannot find a way to do it with smart collections or the filter library. I'll keep experimenting.

  • How to create a filter using mathscript transfer function in labview

    Dear all,
I am currently designing a filter in labview using a Mathscript looping. The filter can be represented in transfer function. I have attachted the transfer function equation together with its value and the desire frequency vs. amplitude graph that I should obtained from it. Also, following are the transfer function written in Matlab.
    B1= tf ([57.5221845],[1 51.017077 205.1868]);
    B2 = tf ([1 0],[7.6991]);
    B3 = tf ([1 0],[14.32433403]);
    B4 = tf ([1 0],[137.6017]);
    F = B1 * ( (1+B3)/((1+B2)*(1+B4)));
    plot(F)
I have also modify the coding as Labview Mathscript does not support the Matlab coding "tf" as transfer function to "bilinear"
    Problem I am facing are:
    1) Unable to display the graph of the filter in labvie.
    2) Unable to have sinewave as an input to the filter.
    3) The output cannot be display in graph format.
Hope to have the soonest reply from you guys. Many thanks in advance

Thank you again for offering to help me in writing the code.
I suppose that I should do a frequency sweep on the transfer
function to prove that it behave as the sample graph. Example, if I have an input sine
wave with the frequency of 8.8Hz passing through the transfer function filter, the
output that I should be getting is 1 according to the transfer function graph
and of cause the frequency range of my input sine wave would only be between
the ranges of 0.5 Hz to 30 Hz.

  • Interactive Report filter using "in"

I am using an interactive report, and I want to filter using the "in" criteria. The data I want to filter is a person's name, and it is a concatenation of the entire name, last name first. I have no problem doing this filter on just the first or last name, but the concatenated field has a comma in it, and that seems to be throwing the filter off.
What automatically populates when I click a name from the list is something like:
    Abraham, Adam
I can see that it would probably be interpreting that as two different values. But even if I put single or double quotes around the name, it still does not work correctly.
    An example available at:
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=41923:1
Try doing an "in" filter on the "name" column.
    Thanks,
    David

    David,
The comma is the operational separator for the 'IN' clause, so you are right, the filter sees each part of the name as a parameter. Just use something else as the separator (like a space) and you will be good to go.
    Keep Smiling,
    Bob R

  • Why can I only open DAQ assistant properties using the windiws profile I registered labview on?

I have Labview 7.1 installed on Windows 2000. When generating block diagrams for codes, the properties dialog box for the daq assistant can only be opened when logged into our system on the profile originally used to install the software or when logged in as administrator. All other properties dialog boxes open under any user profile.

I do not use Windows 2000, but I expect that the folder in which this function is held does not have a 'Full Control' access setting for all users.
See if you can change the folder profile to allow access and full control to all users.
    Hope this helps.

  • I want to connect to a Profile database using the Sanchez JDBC Driver.

I want to connect to a Profile database using the Sanchez JDBC Driver. Is that possible? Would I need to create an extension?

You can't do it directly - only those databases listed in the help under third party databases are supported.
You may well be able to write an extension to connect to an additional database, but it seems like a lot of work.

  • Receive an error when closing my program built using LabVIEW application builder

When I close my program built using LabVIEW application builder I receive an application error,"The instruction at "0x77fcb1ad" referenced memory at "0x023a0010". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate the program"
I have no idea why this is happening.

This is most likely due to a reference or similar left open. You will experience this if you leave an image undisposed in IMAQ as well.
Check all of your references and be sure you are cleaning everything up.

  • Implement active filter in LabVIEW using Orcad

Hello. My problem is as follows:
I have to generate a filtered signal using LabVIEW and NI-5411(Arbitrary Waveform Generator)(A sinus sweep from 10KHz to 100KHz in LabVIEW --> filter it in LabVIEW --> AWG NI-5411). The filter to use is an active filter designed with Orcad. I had thought of two choices: integrating somehow Orcad in LabVIEW or using a mathematical expression via a Formula Node to characterize that filter. The question would be how should I do it and how do I implement it.Just started working with NI5411, so any help would be really valuable. Thanks.

Nlquist, I am attaching a passive filter in this post. But please see that it is a very rough simulation, I have not yet finalised it. I have done using signal processing and butterworth filter  In this attached simulation, I have made a noisy sine wave and filtered it using Butterworth filter. Perhaps now you could be able to answer ny doubt in a better way. I am also attaching a pdf  on reading which, I was able to simulate the passive filter ..I have checked the wikipedia page which you are referring but it contains no information how to simulate it in labview. It just contain theory of active and passsive filter. Tell me any method -simple or difficult but please help me with this active analog filter

  • Is it possible to build a firewall using labview??

Is it possible to build a firewall using labview??
    RAJESH

There are several kinds of firewalls, for example:
    (1) so called "personal firewall software" which applies some policies to incoming and outgoing ethernet traffic on the computer it is running.
    (2) Dedicated hardware firewalls (having at least two ethernet interfaces) that enforce policies of traffic flowing across. These can be bridging, routing, or even be proxying.
LabVIEW does NOT have access to the low level packet structure (ethernet header, ip header, tcp header, etc.) and relies on the OS for routing decisions. LabVIEW only deals with TCP and UDP and only at a very high level. A firewall must also make decisions for e.g. ICMP, GRE, or other IP packets, must know the status of all TCP flags (SYN, ACK, URG, PSH, FIN, RST), must check for valid fragmentations, et., etc.. LabVIEW cannot do any typical firewall tasks unless you do most of your work with external routines. In this case, LabVIEW just provides the UI.
(Even simple ftp traffic would be quite complicated. For example the ports for the secondary data connections must be dynamically allowed based on information gleaned from the control connection, in this particular case the PORT command and the reply to the PASV command).
I would say the answer is NO! Not with the networking tools provided with LabVIEW alone.
With lots of work, you might be able to built a simple proxy server using LabVIEW, but this would seem quite useless...
LabVIEW Champion . Do more with less code and in less time .
