Burned pixels on screen & apple warranty

Hello,
I purchased an ipod touch second generation two days ago and just today I noticed a couple of burned pixels, very small but detectable. I was wondering how common this problem is, and if I take it to Apple to replace the faulty one, will they replace it and will the new one be ok???
It would be great to hear responses from fellow ipod owners!
Thanks
Marina

Hi Marina,
If the pixel is stuck, you might be able to fix it with a web app like these: http://www.apple.com/webapps/utilities/stuckpixelfix.html
http://www.apple.com/webapps/utilities/deadpixeltest.html
You can also have a Genius at a local Apple retail store take a look at it, just make a reservation at a store near you. http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/

  • Bright White Pixels on Screen / Apple Replacement

Thought this might be useful to others. Bought a new MacPro 13" fully maxed out about 6 months ago. My second Apple, first one is a PowerBook that is 7 years old and still kicking. Anyway, I noticed in the bottom left hand corner, about 6-7 pixels (size of a pea) would turn bright white on certain white web pages. Sort of anoyed me and who knows if it would get worse. Knowing how expensive Apple products are to fix and the fact that is was still under warranty I brought to my Apple store in Philadelphia, PA.
Tech took one look at it and said they would relace the screen. According this forum, others have had same issue, was a defective screen sourced from, I think Samsung.
3 hours later, Tech calls me and says, "while we had you computer open, we noticed you also have a defective motherboard and memory!" Wow, am I glad I brought this baby in because I was on the fence about it. He said Apple would replace the entire computer with a brand new one, swapped out my 500GB hard drive for me and gave me a new 1 year warranty.
I was also on the fence about buying the Apple Care extended warranty, but now I plan on buying it in 11 or so months. At least I am glad that Apple stand behind their products, as they should for the price we pay. Hope this helps others.

I had the same thing, a macbook pro bought in may 2010. I noticed a bright spot on the screen two weeks ago, really only visible when a light background behind the spot. I took it in and they said, yah we will replace the screen.
I called a week later, having been told that the replacement screen was in stock and that it would be done in a few days, figuring it must be done and they haven't called. They wouldn't give me any information over the phone except that a part that was defective needed to be ordered... I had to go into the store for them to tell me that they found that the logic board was defective as the problem was not fixed by replacing the screen. Oh and by the way the mic cable was messed up so that needed to be replaced too...
Needless to say, I am frustrated because they won't have the new logic board for a week or more, and did not bother to call me and let me know that they were making more (unauthorized by me) repairs, and I am out from my computer for more time.
Reading your post, I am wondering why they didn't just switch out the hard drive and give me a new computer as they are replacing the guts of it anyways and mine looks brand new - it never leaves my desk or its furry incase!
Not to mention, now I will have new parts with no new warranty and what is to say that these things won't be defective and manifest themselves in another seven months when it is beyond its original 1 year warranty.
What is the defect in the logic board that causes a bright spot on the screen????? and why did no one bother to call me to authorize all of this! It looks like this is actually a known common problem, so why does apple not extend the warranty on the parts they are replacing to cover them for their first year knowing they very well might fail again?!
I love my computer and paid the big bucks to make the switch to apple, I guess I expect more from the customer service and the tech end of the company...

There is no "world apple warranty" on iPhones. As paulcb points out, the warranty is only valid in the country of origin. You will have to bring it to the U.S. or send it to someone you know there to get it serviced.

  • Images burn into the screen after being there for only a few minutes?

What's wrong with my mac if images burn into the screen after being there for only a few minutes?
I can have an icon, like a folder or something, on my desktop for only a few minutes and then when I move it an image of it will be burned into the screen for another few minutes. Same thing happens with having a webpage open for a few minutes or word document. What part of my computer is malfunctioning and is Apple responsible for repairing it?

    Hi,
Does it happen on all desktops applications as well as Modern UI Apps? Since this issue only happened recently, I suspect a newly-installed third party program causes this issue, please check these programs if possible.
We can also boot into clean boot mode, test the issue.

  • IPad broken, how much will apple warranty cover?

    Hi guys,
I had a pretty bad accident, I am fine but my iPad 3 is broken. The whole screen is cracked and it is folded...so badly damaged. But it is still under the Apple 1-year complimentary warranty. I wanted to know that would apple replace it with the same model but brand new? And i bought it from America but now i am visiting UK so would apple replace it there? It is iPad 32GB (3rd gen) wifi+cellular [black]

You may not be able to get a replacement. See underlined statement below.
Apple's Limited Warranty http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/ for iPad excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications.
    Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below. (The replacement will most likely be a refurbished iPad in a brown box, however, it has a new screen, back and battery.)
    iPad model
    Out-of-Warranty Service Fee
    iPad mini
    $219
    iPad 3rd, 4th generation
    $299
    iPad 2, iPad
    $249
A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in US dollars and are subject to local tax.
Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPad that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service. See http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipad

You may can get the iPad repaired at 3rd party repair sources for less $, however, any remaining Apple warranty will be voided. (There may be 3rd party repair places in the UK.)

  • Flickering Screen and Warranty

    Hello,
I've had my macbook for about one year and half now , just long enough for my limited warranty to wear off. After about 8 month of macbook ecstasy and bashing windows , i realised my screen was beginning to flicker at numerous occasions ( restart , booting , awaking , etc. ) . So i sent my machine to a local apple store but only to learn that my warranty does not cover my screen that is blackening and flickering on random occasions , which basicaly means i can't send my macbook to repair something that is not damaged but is going to be some day. Thus being said , my macbook is now one year and half old and this problem of flickering is getting worse every month ... is there anything i can do or this is some kind of deceiving apple warranty service that makes you want to switch back to windows but eventually makes you buy an other macbook because you're addicted to this trendy machine ?

    Virgile...
For clarification, you brought your machine into a local Apple Retail store or a 3rd party provider that is authorized to work on Apple products? They declined a repair on your machine as "No Trouble Found" or that identified an issue?
From what you've described... it sounds like the inverter on your display could be failing. Which can easily be repaired (if that's what it is).
I'd strongly encourage you to pursue contacting Apple directly to arrange an out-of-warranty repair on your machine, or visit a local Apple Retail Store / Genius Bar if that's convenient.
As far as the apple warranty is concerned, your machine came with a one-year warranty with the option during the first 365 days of you owning the machine to purchase AppleCare and extend it for two more years (three years total from date of CPU purchase). So if the issue was identified during the in-warranty period you might have a leg to stand on, especially if it was documented somewhere.
Again, though, that's up for Apple to decide as the machine is now out-of-warranty. Calling them, or visiting a Genius Bar would be the next best plan of action.

  • Help - Grey Screen & Apple Logo aft fixing internal DVD Writer

My DVD writer started to play up a few months ago and eventually stopped reading any discs. After routing around the various forums I had a go at fixing it by taking my Powerbook apart, removing the DVD writer and using an air cleaner and optical cloth cleaned the DVD writer out. Full of dust!
I put the DVD writer back leaving the top of the Powerbook loose and started it up. Excellent result, not only did it play a DVD film, but it burnt a disc which I could read in my aging Power Mac. RESULT!
I then preceded to screw it all back together. It went to the grey screen with the Apple Logo and spinning wheel. I have not been able to get it past this.
I have tried resetting the PMU & PRAM by removing the Power and battery and holding the power switch on for 5 secs.
I have tied to restart and then hold down Command-Option-P-R, wait for third chime and release and press the shift screen. But it stays on the grey screen/Apple Logo.
I did get it to go to a blue screen once but it won't go further.
I have tried to pop in Techtool Pro Disc 4.5.1 and Disk Warrior but the DVD writer just spits these out again.
I have taken it apart again to check that all my connections are OK and they do seem OK. I don't understand how I could get it to play/burn and then it goes all awry only after I screw the keyboard back.
Anybody got any ideas short of taking it in for repair!

I would just get it repaired.

  • I have an iphone 5 that was originally with verizon but has been unlocked now by them and the phone is still under the apple warranty, if I go to replace for power button malfunctioning, will they give replace it with an unlocked phone as well?

I currently have an iphone 5 that was verizon locked but has been unlocked by them because of my contract, the phone is still under the apple warranty but the power button is not working, if it was the case that apple has to replace it with another phone, will they replace with an unlocked phone now?
    thanks

The SIM Lock is stored on the Apple Activation Server - if it has been correctly unlocked by a network then this would have been done on the Activation Server.
When you get your replacement handset through Apple they mirror the activation server details of your existing handset and the current SIM LOCK status is mirror'd onto the new device.
(100% Accurate - done mine 2 weeks before christmas due to original 5 sleep button stopped working)

  • Gray screen, apple logo and spinning gear hang at start up

after a lengthy round of "bejeweled", i let my imac fall into screen saver mode. when i tried to log back in, i tapped the mouse and the imac flashed as it does when actuated outside a dialogue without clicking the okay button, and immediately returned to screen saver. i then manually shut down and restarted to the gray screen, apple logo and spinning gear hang. i then inserted the leopard install dvd, manually shut down and restarted pressing the option key and selected the install disc. it booted as usual. i selected the language preferred, used the utility drop down menu and selected DU, then selected the hard drive and verify permissions to reveal a pop up "Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit. Permissions verification complete." i immediately selected repair disc, and breathed a sigh of relief with the notification "appears to be ok". then utilities/start up disc/macintosh hd/restart. still get the hang. i have repeated this process several times, also resetting the PRAM as well to the infinite hang. as a matter of fact, the gear has been spinning the entire time creating this post. needless to say, i am truly at a loss. SOS!!!!!!! Please!!!!! SEND LAWYERS, GUNS AND MONEY!!!!

i have perused some of the threads posted per this topic and decided to attempt an "archive and install." i also have a 620gig acomdata external drive with close to a carbon copy of my internal. a few short minutes into the install, the imac reveals a pop up stating it cannot install some files on the hard drive, contact the software manufacturer or restart and try to install again. the internal drive is a 160gig with only about 60gigs of room, so i tried to archive and install to the acomdata instead as it has 180 gig of free space. i get the exact same dialogue once again. restart and a third attempt only archive and install will not highlight, only first time and/or erase and install. further, start up disc shows only the install disc and network as choices. so i attempt first time install on both drives and get the same pop up message again. DU recognizes both drives although verify/repair permissions does not highlight, but not start up disc.
i'm trying not to become frantic, but my patience is threadbare. i am in desperate need of sound advice as to what i need to do.
    thanks again in advance,
    bradley

  • My imac won't start up past the grey screen, apple and spinning clock

Hi there.  First time posting - usually either apple support website or previous threads solve the problem.  Alas, not this time.
I have an intel imac - can't tell you much about the details as I can't get any info out of it.  I installed snow leopard about a year ago - no issue since then other than occassionally the screen goes black but nothing major.
Yesterday, I backed up to my usual passport backup and then today, it froze.  I couldn't turn it off or restart at all so resorted to the power button.  Since then, I can turn it on, it goes to the grey screen (no blue screen) and I get the apple logo and the spinning clock/wheel.  For hours and hours....
So, I tried one of the apple support pages and worked through - peripherals, safe boot, NVRAM, PRAM, tried to reboot with mac osx disc (the original not snow leopard) - nothing.  Absolutely nothing changes - same old grey screen, apple logo and spinning clock/wheel.
HELP - do I try and reboot with the snow leopard disc?  I don't know what to do next - I am no techie so half the threads don't even sound like English to me.
Thanks in advance, hope you geniuses out there can help me out.
    abcvic

    Thanks for the reply.
I had tried to reboot with the original disc but it never worked. The imac just spits out the disc and eventually, I am back at the grey screen, apple logo and wheel spinning. I tried it one more time following your reply. Same outcome.
My instal disc 1 had the instruction re hardware test which I have also tried with no success. I can't remember if it came with a disc 2 though I seem to have a couple - I also have a macbook and that seems to be still alive even if it is slow.
I tried to reboot with Snow Leopard disc - power on, chime then hold down C key. Same old - grey screen, apple logo and wheel spinning. Disc spat out eventually.
Any other suggestions welcomed or I am off to Apple tomorrow.

  • What is the difference between apple warranty and applecare and applecare plus

I understand that apple warranty covers damage due to manufacture defects and applecare is the extended warranty and insurance. Then what is applecare+? What is the difference between applecare and applecare+?

The AppleCare extended warranty extends the standard one year warranty by two years and includes free telephone support for two years.
The Apple Plus extended warranty does the same and includes some insurance covering accidental damage with a two claim limit with a deductible over the two year period.
