Bus/DEv/Func Numbers
Hello Folks -
Is there an easy way to get the Bus/Dev/Func Numbers from a Solaris PCI driver? I've been looking all afternoon, and have come up with ddi_prop_lookup_byte_array() with the "reg" property. If the way to do such a thing, I am not sure how to properly parse the value returned (all 80 bytes).
Any other ideas here?
Thanks,
mike
OK, I think I have found a way for a PCI device driver to get the Bus/Dev/Func Numbers of the device it is trying to control. This was all from trial and error. I'd appreciate comments from any people who have been there/done that.
int val;
int *props;
unsigned int numProps;
val = ddi_prop_lookup_int_array(
DDI_DEV_T_ANY,
devi,
0,
"reg",
&props,
&numProps);
if((val == DDI_PROP_SUCCESS) && (numProps > 0))
p_mps->busNum = PCI_REG_BUS_G(props[0]);
p_mps->devNum = PCI_REG_DEV_G(props[0]);
p_mps->funcNum = PCI_REG_FUNC_G(props[0]);
ddi_prop_free(props);
}mike

SATA2 HDD slow based on these hdparm -Tt /dev/sda numbers [SOLVED]
I have a EG45M-UD2H running BIOS F3 (latest one as of the time of this post). I'm noticing a pretty significant HDD speed decrease with this board vs. my old board. If I take the same Seagate 7200.12 (1 gig) HDD and benchmark it on another motherboard, the cached reads are about 7x higher.
For example, under the EG45M-UD2H:
# hdparm -Tt /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 2692 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1346.47 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 386 MB in 3.01 seconds = 128.13 MB/sec
On another motherboard (DFI LP P35-T2R):
# hdparm -Tt /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 14740 MB in 2.00 seconds = 7378.19 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 368 MB in 3.02 seconds = 122.04 MB/sec
The only relevant settings I see in the BIOS are:
BIOS settings: Integrated Peripherals>SATA RAID/AHCI Mode [AHCI] <-- I have also set this to disable and there is no difference
SATA Port0-3 Native Mode [Enabled or Disabled] <-- I tried both and there is no difference
Does anyone have any thoughts?
$ lsmod | grep ahci
ahci 34321 4

the 7000mbs cache read, way to high for a sata 3gb interface, so i think the first reading is a mistake.
i dont know of any other hdd test utils apart from dding to /dev/null. but some one will probably mention one soon
Thanks for the info, markp. Can you post the output from your P45 board once you have that system powered up? To answer your question, there's bonnie++ but it takes quiet a long time to run.
EDIT: This whole issue is a non-issue -- PEBKAC. Seems as though I was misusing the -T switch:

Perform timings of cache reads for benchmark and comparison purposes. This displays the speed of reading directly from the Linux buffer cache without disk access. This measurement is essentially an indication of the throughput of the processor, cache, and memory of the system under test.

Hello,
I have a Cisco IPS4255 that will not boot an image. I'm seemingly successfully completing a TFTPDNLD each time, but it keeps rebooting with the cannot find image in \ error.

#3- If the TFTP is rerun the entire cycle starts again.The IPS 4255 sensor appliance has only a single 512 MB internal CompactFlash module for storage by-default, so this part of the output you posted is interesting:
hda: TOQHIBA THLCD512MBA, CFA DISK drive
hdb: QalDisi QDAF@-510, ATA DISK drive
ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14

hdb: task_no_data_intr: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }
hdb: 484848 sectors (248 MB) w/1KiB Cache, CHS=481/16/63
As it appears that two (2) 256 MB ("248 MB") storage devices are being detected (despite the model of the first even containing "512MB" in its name).
I'd recommend double-checking that there is nothing installed in the "External compact flash device" slot located on the back of the appliance. See here for reference: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ips/7.0/installation/guide/hw_installing_4240_4255.html#wp2726
If there is a CompactFlash module installed there, eject and remove it, then power-cycle the appliance and attempt the re-image ("recovery") process once more. If the boot output still contains the same errors for hda and hdb, then it is probably a failing/failed CompactFlash module, so an RMA will likely be necessary to resolve. -
Cisco ASA 5505 not able to access flash
Hi All:
I have searched and searched all over the net for an answer to this question and have decided to just post it. I have a 5505 that was given to me by my job to use for working on my CCNA Sec. cert and did the following:
I plugged it in and booted it up just fine. Made config changes as I followed along with the examples in my CCNA Security book. Got to the point in chapter 14 where the initial setup happens to configure it for working with ASDM. I never did a write mem on it and decided to take it back to square one by unplugging it to allow it to lose the changes that I made. This is where things got ugly.
When it booted back up it got stuck in a bootup loop and couldn't find an IOS. After following all kinds of steps to boot to rommon and tftp another IOS and such (several times) I decided to follow another posting that said that the flash could be corrupted and to just delete it and start anew. Did that and through rommon as it would not boot up normally any more. After trying this over and over for the last couple hours I realized that it would boot from tftp so I did that in hopes of fixing the flash issue.
I've tried deleting it, and re-initializing it and formating it. But the thing is that it no longer SEES the disk0: mount point. I've used two different flash cards...the one that came with it and the one that I already had. With the cover off I can see that there is no activity light next to the flash drive when I issue a delete or initialize or format command.
Here is a copy of some of the output file. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Booting system, please wait...Did you ever find a solution? I have several 5505's that are doing this. They seem to run 8.4.3 fine, but not 8.4.6 or 8.4.7. I have two boot commands in the config, the first for 8.4.6-5 and the second for 8.4.6. plugging in the asa, it tries to boot 8.4.6, but boot loops. If I esc to rommon and manually boot 8.4.3 it will load fine. I have several ASA 5505's doing this that have been upgraded using the ASDM tool. This particular output is for one with 8.4.6, but I have others with 8.4.7 that do the exact same thing, again upgraded from the ASDM tool.

How can I do to recover the device?
Keeps rebooting endlessly!
Thank you.
AndreaWhen the checksum fails, either the IOS image you are trying to load is corrupted (or incomplete) or the tftp download corrupted the image.
I would start by using an older, smaller image. Such as 8.2(5). Tftp that image to get the ASA booted, then upgrade to 9.0(2). -
Hello,
I have problem with ASA 5505. One of our customers brought me ASA 5505 with deleted flash. They want me to fix the problem. I tried to load image from rommon mode, but failed many many times. I used 4 different software files. I tried many many times and most often I get :

I just reloaded a image to my asa 5505 and did the following.
Saved the image file : asa831-k8.bin and installed a tftp server app (pumpkin)
added the following :
rommon #0> ADDRESS=192.168.0.? (Where this is the address you want to give the asa)
rommon #1> SERVER=192.168.0.? (Where this is the address of the laptop you have pumpkin installed on

press Enter, should display the following:

type :
rommon #4> tftp
when it finished doing its thing I then rebooted the ASA and it loaded the new image. -

BIOS for K8N Neo2 MS-7025 1C3 .
Custom version rev.1 has non working HT 3.5x/4.5x multipliers .

This is no good in an overclock attempt as you would attemt to run the HT far over it's spec .
Theese two is removed again .
In addition the 150mhz text is aligned in memory index , and 216/233/250mhz dividers
removed as they gives 100/130/200mhz anyway and they are alredy there .

In order to guarantee a high-quality service on Tripod, we had to close your website http://members.lycos.co.uk/syar2003/ as it was found abusive.
Both HTTP and FTP access have been closed.

There are more and more people asking about how to flash bios outside windows from
DOS without having a floppy drive .
Well here is the solution .
I Have compiled a ISO file that holds all the most used bioses for all the K8N Neo motherboards .
The cd also includes the volkov commander (norton commander clone) for easy navigating .
Click on the "MSI K8N NEO/FSR & Neo2-Neo4 Bioses" text over the platinum BMP picture to get to the directory listing.
Go into the sub directory " ALL_BIOS_ISO " and download the ISO image for the bootable BIOS compilation CD " MS_CD5.iso " .
Then burn the ISO with your favorite cd burning application.
Again note the correct flash routine , clear PnP , clead cmos , clear dmi , and load defaults after flash , theese have become
essensial to use with flashing to ther newer bioses for all boards and is even posted on MSI's bios pages.
Flash with the command line
AWFL859G.EXE 7100NMS.350 /py/sn/cc/cd/cp/f/e
(change award flasher exe program and bios file as neccesary)
After flash , turn off the PSU .
Power on again , enter bios , and load bios defaults followed by a cmos exit with save .
Note that this is just a service . I will take no responsiblitity of the outcome of the bios flashing .

Official bios W7025NMS.140 (added 12.10.2004)
This one has the same boot block as 1.51B but different from all others .
==================================================
12.07.2004
==================================================
Update of boot block is not always neccesary.
Theese tables show with a letter the boot block version of each bios.
The bat file includes a /wb switch which reprograms bootblock .
If the flash goes wrong with boot block flashed and the boot block gets corrupted , no floppy rescue can be done.
Then it's adviced only to use the /wb swich in the included bat file when neccesary.

Theese are tested by several users (including myself and work fine)First off get the BIOS version you want to flash:
Take a look at syar2003's excellent collection!
http://members.lycos.co.uk/syar2003/S754_neo_plat_bios/
Download the BIOS version you want, extract the .zip and put the files on a bootable floppy. Syar2003 supplies a handy flash.bat file with "his" 1.55 that you can use. This saves you typing in all the command line switches listed in the quote below.
After booting from floppy, copy the three files (AWFL833D.exe, flash.bat and W7030NMS.155) to a hardisk or the ramdrive that was just created by the bootdisk. I strongly advise against flashing directly from floppy!
(Notice that you will need a FAT partition on your harddisk to be able to access it from "DOS".)
Now follow syar2003's flash guide:
Quote
Remember :
Enter bios and load optimized default + save/exit , before flashing .
Do the flashing to 1.55 with AWFL833D W7030NMS.155 /py/sn/wb/cc/cd/cp/f/r
Enter bios and load optimized default , and save .Important .
Boot once again after this without any changes/editing in bios to floppy prompt and let the dmi pool build and update itself.
Then boot/edit bios set your individual bios preferences .
Hope this will help you!
Btw. When I flashed to 1.55 my NIC went dead in windows and I had no internet access. Make sure you have a official BIOS release at hand (on the same or other disk?) so that you can flash back to a version you trust...

Disclaimer: Self learning, new to ASA.
I setup the ASA 5505 (everything via the ASDM) and got it connected and working fine.
Set route so the inside could get to the outside
Added an object, nat rule, and ACL to allow tcp/3389 through to Server-01.
Created objects for all the devices I wanted to have internet access, and created ACLs permitting them access.
Fat fingered the cable modem's cable so I had to reload the ASA
I'm not sure if I clicked on something else, because on a reload I get the warning:
..WARNING: All traffic destined to the IP address of the outside interface is being redirected.
WARNING: Users will not be able to access any service enabled on the outside interface.
*** Output from config line 133, "static (inside,outside) ..."
Now, from what I can tell, everything works; internal computers have access to internet, and I can remote in using tcp/3389. I have access to the CLI through the com cable, however, I can no longer connect to the ASA using the ASDM.
I "think" the problem is with the command "static (inside,outside) interface Server-01 netmask 255.255.255.255" but I'm not for certain. I've tried to research how to clear the command to no avail.
Can someone help me figure out how I borked this please? TIA

alexandre#Hi,
I presume you are having problems connecting with ASDM from the external network? This would make sense considering the current NAT configuration.
The problem is indeed the "static" command. The problem is that you only have the single public IP address and that is typically used for Dynamic PAT so that internal users can access the internet by using that as their public IP address (through PAT). It is naturally also used to access the ASA as its directly configured on its external interface.
Now that you have configured a Static NAT between 192.168.1.10 and your public IP address on the external interface this means that any connections coming towards the public IP address will be forwarded to the internal host 192.168.1.10. So ASA wont be accepting the connections for any port as they will be forwarded to the internal host.
What you should do is configure Static PAT instead. This is basically a Port Forward configuration for the ports that you need.
So you could try this through the CLI
no static (inside,outside) interface Server-01 netmask 255.255.255.255
static (inside,outside) tcp interface 3389 192.168.1.10 3389 netmask 255.255.255.255
Check that you are in the correct configuration mode though
alexandre> enable
Password: <give the enable password>
alexandre# conf term
alexandre(config)# <now enter the above "static" commands>
What this should do is first remove the Static NAT so that we get rid of the problem in connectivity to the ASA from the external network. Next we add a Static PAT configuration that will only forward the port TCP/3389 for your RDP connections towards the internal host. Any other port of the public IP address (on the external interface) is free to be used for the ASA itself. This should therefore enable you to again access the ASA through ASDM (using port TCP/443)
Hope this helps :)

ASA5520 reverse telnet problem
Hi all,
I have a problem with ASA5520 and reverse telnet. I recently upgrade IOS on ASA5520, asa921-k8. Problem is that cisco has latest IOS version asa91x.... for this platform.
I have 7201 on remote site, and connect his aux to asa console. When I do telnet to specific port, this is output:

This is run over and over. I just can't enter a ROMMON mode of ASA. I have older IOS on flash which works.
I don't know what to type to enter in rommon mode. I tried every combinatios of characters but nothing. I used Putty, SecureCRT.
Any idea?
Regards,
NenadSo ESC isn't working during boot? FYI 9.2 is not supported on non-X ASA chassis (which I'm sure you have now figured out). You can also try changing the escape sequence so ESC will work. Check this link on how to change that.

Recovering from a partial RT Image
We use the RT Replication VI to setup our RT controllers. Recently we
had the imaging process get interrupted due to a network failure.
After the failure we could no longer see the RT controller in MAX. In
order to get it back up and running, we had to format the CF card (we
are using the 8145RT card). Is there a way to recover from a partial
install other then formating the CF card? I was hoping that putting
the controller in User-Defined Safe Mode would allow it to reappear in
MAX, but it doesn't. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.We were able to reproduce the issue. Below is the serial output from the unit after the issues has ocurred. The S3 switch for user-defined safe mode is enabled.

PIX Firewall 525 can not start
Hi,
Today my colleague add 2 lines of access-list to our PIX 525. After 10 minutes, my firewall was rebooted and until now can't start. The booting process as listed below.
The questions are :
1. What is my OS version? Flash?
2. How to remove those 2 lines (reset the config to default)?
3. How to solve the issue?
Thanks,
Andy

Visa Error in MAX for Compact RIO
Hi,
I have a compact rio I haven't used in a few months. In Labview 7.1 and since upgrading to 7.1.1, I can't
connect to the compact rio. In MAX, I can see the crio device. When I open up the device, I get a VISA error
under Devices and Interfaces . 0xBFFF00A7 (VI_ERROR_MACHINE_NAVAIL). I can't ftp or ping to the crio either.
I have NI-RIO 1.2.
I connected to the crio console ....

Welcome to LabVIEW Real-Time 7.1
NI-VISA Server started successfully.Hi, Raltieri,
I noticed from the text that you sent that your cRIO controller has LabVIEW RT 7.1. Since you upgraded your host computer to LabVIEW 7.1.1, you will also need to upgrade the LabVIEW image on your controller to the same version. Try reinstalling the LabVIEW RT component into the cRIO controller (in MAX, under Remote Systems, under your cRIO >> Software), and just make sure that you select 7.1.1 as the version to reinstall. Most likely that is the problem.
Please let me know if that doesn't help.

Bleed settings come out wrong when export to PDF
I'm working on a 5x13 door hanger in InDesign with a .125" bleed on all sides. I did the front in Illustrator and brought it into ID and I did the back entirely in ID since it's text heavy. When I export it to PDF with bleed and crop marks showing, t
