Business Workflow, CATS and Universal Worklist

Hi,
I've been searching the forums for answers, but haven't found any.. So here's a question.
We are going to implement worklow for approving time. We are using MSS/ESS, and the approval will occur in the universal worklist.
As far as we can see, we have to do the following settings (and please correct me if I'm wrong):
1) Add a workflow standardtask in the transaction CAC1.
Question to number 1)
- Is it correct that this has to be a standardtask? Multisteptask are not allowed?
- Is it correct that the standardtask has to be executed in the front (and not as a background task)?
2) Add the step in transaction SWFVISU
We have to make a two-step approval scenario (first approver is 2 people in the personelladministration department. The second approver is the line manager for the employee). As far as I can se there's no standard solution for this. And we are trying to figure out how to solve this. One scenario we though about was to execute a multisteptask from the standardtask in CAC1. But if the standardtask in CAC1 has to be executed in the front, we can't trigger a multisteptask in the background as we thought. So now we don't know how to trigger the next step in the flow after the first approval step.

Hi Gene,
basically you have to create a UWL system. UWL systems are different from normal system objects in SAP NetWeaver Portal. Normal system objects are used to establish a connection to backend system that can be used by many iViews etc. UWL systems are based on normal system objects (you actually have to specify a system alias when creating a UWL systems). You use UWL systems to bind a UWL connector to a system object.

601 SAP Business Workflow - Build and Use

Hello,
I am working in ABAP for last 6-7 years. Due to project need planinng to take BIT 601 SAP Business Workflow - Build and Use class.
Please suggest if this class is good to get started in SAP workflow. Pre-requisite for this class is BIT 600. I am not taking that class. Can I do self study and pick it up?
Please suggest how I can get ready for workflow.

Hi,
Org structure needs to be setup by HR, but you can set up org structure yourself. Its not a big deal. 601 will go thorough this process. Also you can have workflows without org structure.

Java Web DynPro and Universal Worklist Interaction

HI ESS/MSS Gurus,
Good day!
I am a workflow consultant who is working on an ESS/MSS project. I have already completed and tested (successfully) all of the workflows needed in the backend using the PTARQ and PTCOR applications. We are also successful in showing the work items in the universal worklist.
Now the question is, whenever we click on the work item, we encounter an error in the portal. Now, I need to determine the following:
1. How are we going to integrate the ESS/MSS portal with the execution of the work item in the universal worklist?
2. Do we need to develop custom Java web dynpro applications for the approval process of the leaves, or is there a standard offering from the ESS/MSS packages?

Here is what we have done so far:
1. Implemented the details as indicated in note 779075 and changed the parameters defined in SWFVISU
2. Upon re-registering and clearing the cache from the UWL, we tested if the task will call the standard application for leave request approval. It returns the error Internal error. :
Item is null for action acknowledge, and for item type uwl
It seems that the xmls files are not being generated or read successfully. although when we check uwl.webflow.SAP_ECC_HumanResources, there is an updated xml file for the task
Questions are:
1. What checks do we need to execute between the back end, UWL and portal?
2. Whenever changes in SWFVISU are made, what items do we need to check to ensure that the changes are reflected in the UWL? I have read that SWFVISU helps the user do away with the tedious xml creation. How can we verify that the changes are implemented/updated in the xmls generated?
3. Any other items we need to look into?

Workflow roles and the worklist

All,
I need to have users that are assigned to multiple roles. It would be really nice if the user could view their worklist by role. For example, we have one role for 'normal' work to do, and another role for 'errors/problems'
items. I would like to view them (or group them) separately.
Is this possible?

Link to Object (Lead) from workitem in Universal worklist

Hello. We have a workflow that sends workitems (dialog tasks) to a users inbox in SAP portal. If I open the workitem from Universal worklist and then click the link inside the workitem to take me to the object (CRM Lead or Business Activity), I get "page not found". However, if I click this same link after opening the workitem in business workplace (SBWP), I'm taken to the object fine as I expect. Anyone know why the object link from UWL does not work? Or where it's configured?
Note, if I click an object link in UWL for an item that was generated from ECC (say for Document, Material Master, etc), I'm taken to the object just fine. Our issue seems narrowed to the combination of CRM and Universal worklist.

Did u check under
Content Admin -> Webdynpro , the component ess~lea and the application LeaveRequestApprover are in status green.
Also check the correspinding JCO connections tab.
I presume that you have installed the ESS, MSS and PCUI GP patches.

PO Approval Items Workitems are not removed from the Universal Worklist UWL

Hi,
Certain of our purchase orders require approval, they are sent to the relevant approver via workflow to their SAP inbox (SBWP) and universal worklist.
When the user executes the workitem (Approve or Reject) The workitem should be removed from the universal worklist and SBWP when refreshed.
The problem we experiencing is that the Workitems are not removed from the UWL after they have been executed. The SBWP is behaving correctly and the items are removed.
It is not all the workitems that have this problem, only certain ones - but there is no pattern.

The user B approved the PR accessing the transaction SBWP or via PR transaction directly?
If via PR transaction directly, then your workflow needs a Wait Event step.

If you have a general knowledge about workflow the BIT601 is a good place to start. You can also take a look at the workflow FAQ available here on SDN (check the sticky thread at the top of the forum). This should give you a general idea.

SAP Business Workflow and SAP Netweaver Gateway - Missing extensible elements

Hello,
For a mobile project we use SAP Netweaver Gateway in order to retrieve information from workflows stored into SAP Business Workflow.
We are able to retrieve standard informations for a workflow but custom fields added into "Extensible Elements" section are lost when exit SAP NG.
We have checked the configuration of SAP NG (by 4 differents person) and it seems to be OK.
Do you have an idea why the custom fields are lost during SAP NG processing ?

Difference between SAP Business Workflow and CRM Workflow

Hello guys,
Is there any difference between SAP Business Workflow and CRM Workflow?
Are there others workflows types in SAP?
In all SAP Workflow Courses (BIT600, BIT601, BIT603, BIT610) only was talked about SAP Business Workflow, and nothing about CRM Workflow.

There is not much of the differance between CRM workflows and SAP Business workflows..
Workflows are esentially part of Basis (BC) components and hence its the same across all SAP products as all these products have components of Basis(BC) in them...
To Conclude, SAP Busines workflows and CRM workflows are the same things... However when you work on CRM, the BOR objects would be belonging to CRM and not to ECC... However conceptwise , there in no change at all.. If you learn BIT100......, you can also work on CRM workflows..

SAP Business Workflow:
connects Applications via Tasks across SAP-Systems
ccBPM:
with help of PI it should connect Applications via Adapter and is only message-driven!
am I right?!
Can someone please explain how to implement Business Workflow in SAP-Systems?! I am only aware of ccBPM!

Help deciding between BPM and Business Workflow

Hi All,
We are in the phase of deciding which tool to use for SAP Application systems from Workflow and Business Rules Engine Point of view.
We recommended SAP Business Workflow + BRF+ for that.
But SAP Business Workflow is not having monitoring UI as good as SAP BPM.
So we are planning to propose the solution using SAP BPM instead of SAP Workflow.
Our main requirement is HR Org structure data fetching and it is achievable with SAP BPM what I have studied so far.
My question to the experts is whether SAP BPM can be integrated with SAP BRF+?

The biggest difference (besides the underlying technology stack) is that by modeling processes in BPMN, business users gain transparency and become more involved in BPM projects, leading to better results.
btw, SAP BPM is in the market for 5 years now and has more than one thousand productive customers.
