BusinessObjects 3.0 cluster

I need to setup a cluster with two Business Objects 3.0. servers 1 server has access to SAN storage.
I would like to setup a Repository on the first server to store reports and data for Business Objects 3.0.
I need direction.

I needed some help from you on clustering. Please do help me out. This is my plan. I will be having 2 BusinessObjects XI 3.1 Servers pointing to a single CMS database. The filestore will be sitting on a SAN.Both the servers SERVER A and SERVER B will be using a UNC path to connect to the same file store sitting on the SAN. Can you let me know if this ok and will it work. Does connecting to the same SAN result in data corruption and how does clustering work will it be in active/passive mode which means will only 1 server be active at a given time. If 1 server goes down will the 2nd server automatically take over. Please help. Many Thanks.

  • Ccm.config issue - cluster

    <pre>Hi there,
    XI 3.1 , Linux
    We have a very strange situation.
    We built a cluster for two servers bo1 and bo2 - they had SIA nodes called SIA1 and SIA2 respectively
    A week or two ago, the BO repository became corrupted and we had to re-initalise it
    This meant re-building the cluster. This necessitated the creatiion of a new SIA node for bo2 called SIAII (not my idea!!)
    We did this using cmsdbsetup
    This appeared to work and we appeared to have a working cluster
    We noticed yesterday that a scheduled webi doc created on bo1 that was to run every 15 minutes was intermittently failing - about 3 out of 10 instances failed.
    When we dug deeper, we were able to establish that the webi doc failed when the request was passed to bo2 - indeed it appeared to bring down the wireportserver.exe (both of them)
    We re-checked the cluster via cmsdbsetup and everything looked fine.
    Then we checked the ccm.config for bo1 and bo2 and things look a little strange. I believe a colleague may edited ccm.config incorrectly - there were 2 sets of entries in ccm.config for bo2 - one for SIA2 and another for SIAII. Perhaps the wrong one was removed/edited
    Below is the comparsion of the 2 ccm.config files (bo2 on the left; bo1 on the right)
    Neither have anything ins CLUSTER_NAMESERVER=""  - is this correct
    MYSQLHOSTNAME is incorrect on both
    CMSCLUSTER="no"  ?
    On bo2 the node name is  SIANODENAME="SIA2"
    We looked at the registry entries and we can see entries for the old SIA...
    Real question here is whether the ccm.config is accessed when one member of the cluster passed a report request to the other cluster member - would this be our issue?

  • VIP (Virtual IP) on a cluster env  for BOBJ 3.1 and rich client

    All,
    I am in 3.1 where I have an installation with 1 cluster and 2 app server machine behind.
    in order to load balance between the 2 app server I am using some VIP address using some sticky session.
    It works perferctly when i am logging to it thru the infoview However we would like to try the same when trying to login from the rich client.
    is it possible ?
    thanks in advance
    Philippe

    If using WRC in 2-tier then it connects to the CMS and directly to the reporting DB (any DB middleware is configured on the client) so the load balancer doesn't even come into play in this scenario. The WRC can be downloaded from infoview or installed by CD.
    If using WRC in 3-tier (globe shown in the system). Then it should work fine. 3-tier will need an extranet file which contains connection info so it can use the web/app to forward requests using the servers middleware. The connection server needs to be running to connect to the reporting DB.
    To connect in 3-tier verify that you don't have any extranet files in my documents\my business objects documents\locdata on the WRC client. Then open infoview using the URL of your load balancer, and set your webi preferences to use WRC. Select new webi doc (this should create a new extranet file at the above location using the loadbalanced URL. Also needed for this to work are WRC installed (you should be prompted if not) and the connection server running and enabled in the CMC > servers.

  • ReportEngine (XI-R3.1) is not Serializable and fails on a wbelogic cluster

    In our J2EE web-application we store <b><code>com.businessobjects.rebean.wi.ReportEngines</code></b> in the <b><code>HttpSession</code></b> as recommended.
    <br>From this instance we retrieve the appropriate report "<b><code>ReportEngine</code></b>" instance based on the storeagetoken.
    <br>We retrieve the ReportEngine instance by:
    <br>
    <br><b><code>ReportEngine reportEngine = reportEngines.getServiceFromStorageToken(strEntry);</code></b>
    <br>
    <br>The above works in a non-clustered single application server environment (weblogic-10).
    <br>
    <br>But in a cluster, if the storage-token and "ReportEngines" are created in one Node, then we get a <b><code>null</code></b> when we try retrieving the <b><code>ReportEngine</code></b> in another node.
    <br>
    <br>We dug in and discovered out that while  "<b><code>ReportEngines</code></b>" implements Serializable  "<b><code>ReportEngine</code></b>" does not implement the same.
    <br>
    <br>We noticed that the .NET SDK implementation of "<b><code>ReportEngine</code></b>" is serializable though (unlike Java).
    <br>
    <br>Does anyone know of any patch for the above.
    <br>
    <br>We have worked around by serializing the <b><code>DocumentInstance</code></b>in the DB and retrieve this using teh storage-token itself as a key.
    <br>Obviously, we use this route only as a workaround (only when we encounter a <b><code>null</code></b> <b><code>ReportEngine</code></b>,due the cluster node switches).
    <br>
    <br>----
    <br>There are other ways to get it to work without our workaround. One is by getting the load-balancer to retain the same weblogic node all thru the user-session (and in this case it works), but he cannot use that kind of a setup in our production environment.
    <br>We have to have the loadbalancer distributing requests to all nodes in the cluster regadless to the session.
    <br>--
    <br>

    There's no patch for that in the XI 3.1 and previous product line.
    Your workaround sounds nice, i.e., sticky sessions for the session, and retrieve from token for failover.  When retrieving from the storage token, it serializes the report back from the WebI Report Server.

  • Drillthrough using a cluster name

    Hi
    I'm looking to use a hyperlink  to open a BO report containing detailed business data from a summary report which gives a total count of records for each type of business data.
    This is from http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com
    " href="http://<webserver>/businessobjects/enterprise115/<platformSpecific>?sDocName=<document name>&sType=<document type>&iDocID=<document id>&lsS<prompt message>='object SELECT'">'object SELECT'</a>' "
    So far so good. This works if the web server name is given in <webserver>
    However , we use a cluster of web servers and it is this cluster name ( @xxx ) I want to use rather than a specific one.
    Does anyone know how to do this ?
    Thanks
    Ken

    In case anyone else has this problem, I eventually called Adobe tech support. My issue has been identified as a bug in both TCS2 and TCS3. With any luck, they'll fix it in an update.

  • BOE-XI (R2) - Rename CMS name in Login Screen for CLUSTER

    BOE-XI (R2)
    Cluster with Two (2) physical servers side-by-side hosting all BOE services.
    Both Tomcat and IIS installed on both physical servers.
    We don't want the end-users of InfoView to see/know the underlying server names (eg. BOE_SERVER_1 and BOE_SERVER_2 ) in the URL for the CMC / InfoView - or in the CMS Name on the login screens for those applications.
    I assume that we can use some kind of DNS service in front of the website to mask that, but I don't know how we can "rename" it in the CMS name in Login Screen.
    What we want is to use a name like BOE_PROD for the URL path -  and for the CMS Name on the login screens for CMC / InfoView
    Anyone done this before...? Any documentation you can point me to...?
    Thanks in advance!

    Here is one of my best findings on the matter.
    DNS ---
    The DNS bit is not documented but here is how I achieve this. The cluster configuration should be documented in the deployment or admin guide.
    For XIr2 to run with DNS, you need to add -port to the CMS, IFRS, OFRS and RAS (if you use crystal) - check the SAP notes to see because there are differeences between the CMS and other services for this. You will use the DNS name in this parameter instead of the hostname.
    From what you explained, you will need at least two DNS's
    In -port, use the dns name for the CMS (the DNS MUST match the IP address of the server where the CMS run if you want it to work)
    In EVERY services, you will need to change the -ns parameter to match the DNS name other registration will fail.
    Client tools will have to use the DNS or clustername.
    From my tests, DONT change -name. If you manage to do so, feel free to tell us more about it.
    --- Cluster name ---
    For that bit, I'll give the quick information, but the reference is the documentation.
    What follows is for tomcat. However, as stated above, the documentation explains pretty well how to achieve this for IIS too and you just need to replace hostname by fqdn in every bit that tells you how to configure this.
    For the name visible on the logon page on InfoView, it is in the web.xml Note: you can set the default name to the cluster name and even hide the CMS name if you want. (tomcat/webapps/businessobjects/enterprise115/desktoplaunch/web-inf/web.xml)
    The default value for the cms should be there, and a specific part is commented for the cluster names. If you want to use the clustername as the default value, you'll need to uncomment the part for it and fill in the required information (ClusterName and CMS DNS names) and then change the default value. This is required because Tomcat doesnt know how to resolve the clustername otherwise.
    Same thing goes for the CMC: (tomcat/webapps/businessobjects/enterprise115/adminlaunch/web-inf/web.xml)
    Restart Tomcat and BO and you have a fully DNS compliant BO server with a cluster name based on the DNS.
    Let us know how it goes.
    Cheers,

  • Explore SAP CL cluster table folder using Crystal Integration Kit

    Dear All,
    I am a SAP FICO consultant and have just installed the SAP integration kit and CRYSTAL 2008 with a Business Object consultant. We planned to access the SAP cluster tables and replace some ABAP reports with CRYSTAL and Business Objects Reports.
    We have encountered the below two key problems, which I am hoping you can help with:
    - I am only able to view the three folders stated (CL, DD & FN) after giving the CRYSTAL User ID full SAP_ALL access and not with the limited access in the installation guide, profile CRYSTAL_ENTITLEMENT.
    - I can not see any cluster tables within the CL (Cluster) folder as expected and only see data in the FN (Function) & DD (Data dictionary), even after giving the CRYSTAL ID the SAP_ALL access.
    Please can you assist from your experience of implementing the Integration kit with SAP ERP?
    Products used: SAP ECC6, CRYSTAL 2008 SP2 and current Integration Kit.
    Kind Regards,
    Mo.
    Edited by: Mo Habib on Nov 6, 2009 2:26 PM

    Thanks for you replies and I also had a look at Ingo's blog "BusinessObjects and SAP Part 4". The blog indicates that the CL folder is not for the standard cluster tables but specifically for ABAP clusters. Hence why I can not see any tables within this folder as they have to be mapped and setup in SAP if required.
    My installation must therefore be correct and I should just use the DD folder for accessing SAP cluster tables? Many thanks for your help and if you can confirm my above assumption then I will mark question as answered.
    Cheers,
    Mo.

  • BusinessObjects Metadata Repository and Oracle RAC

    What are the implications of having the BusinessObjects Metadata Repository reside in an Oracle RAC Database?  Is it doable?

    Yes, you can install BO repository on Oracle RA.Cluster.
    Make Sure with support is Oracle RAC 11g R2 is feasible or not. Till 11G R1 it was working fine.
    Thanks,

  • Java application to call BOXI cluster report server

    Dear all,
    We have a BOXI 3.1 cluster consisting of 2 servers, says server1 and server2.
    Which server should the java application call to? server1 or server2? I don't realize there is BOXI cluster common hostname that can be resolved by DNS.
    If the application calls to server1, what if server1 is down?
    Many thanks

    For the Java version of the BusinessObjects Enterprise SDK starting with XI 3.x, CMS members and their "Name Server Port" are persisted by the SDK in the file %HOME%\.businessobjects\clusterinfo.1200.properties file.    This file is read when SessionMgr is instantiated.
    When logon method with a CMS member name/port is invoked, it's looked up to determine what cluster the member belongs to, as recorded in the properties file.  Then a random CMS member from that cluster is selected, and connection is attempted to that CMS Name Server.
    So regardless of what CMS name you enter for the logon, it should at least fail over to a live one.
    The only issue happens if there's no clusterinfo.1200.properties file (i.e., fresh install on the SDK machine) or not accessible (if the process has no rights to access that file).  Then you have to ensure the CMS name you enter is to a live one.    If it's a fresh install and there's sufficient file access, the initial contact with a live CMS Name Service will retrieve all CMS members, and the SDK will update teh properties file.
    So you shouldn't have to worry about which CMS name you specify.
    Sincerely,
    Ted Ueda

    Its a late response... but if someone gets the same issue here is the solution.
    When you register try uppercase password . That should take care of that issue.
    The problem is with function module CRM_ISA_IUSER_SWITCH , Note 946536.
    Although the note says 5.0 the problem exists with ISA 4.0 too

  • Hiding a Maintenance View in a View Cluster

    Hello ABAP Experts,
    We have a scenario where we would like to hide a maintenance view to an existing view cluster based on condition.
    Is it possible via events of a view cluster, where i can hide the view at runtime based on some condition before the view cluster is displayed ?
    Is there any way as well, which help achieve this hiding of views ?
    For example in the below View Cluster, i would like to hide "Define object links" view from the main view cluster "Define document Types".
    Thanks,
    Naresh

    Hi Naresh,
    Yes, you can do it in events of a view cluster, define a subroutine and bounding it to event(02) in SE54,
    when you define the subroutine, it will ask you creat a mian program, in this main program, you need  'INCLUDE lsvcmcod'.
    Then you can access some standard data, http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/62/c302c7de8e11d1a5960000e82deaaa/frameset.htm
    INCLUDE lsvcmcod.
    FORM yourSubroutineName.
    DATA: viewname TYPE vclstruc-object,
            error_flag TYPE vcl_flag_type,
      viewname = 'ZTEST_VIEW1'.
    *  PERFORM vcl_set_table_access_for_obj USING    viewname
    *                                       CHANGING error_flag.
      ----> according your condition to change the view.
    IF xxx = yyy.
      DELETE vcl_struc_tab WHERE object = viewname.
    ENDIF.
    ENDFORM.

  • BI publishing report issue on HP-UX cluster

    Dear All,
    I have a problem about BW publish report .
    Our customer has three BI systems (PRD, QAS, DEV) and three BOE system (XIR3.1).
    Those systems are installed on HP-UX.
    BOE QAS and DEV system used Tomcat, BOE PRD system deployed on SAP WAS.
    SAP QAS and DEV system can publish crystal report to each BOE system.
    But SAP PRD can not publish with error
    u201C0000000001 An error occured when retrieving the role metadata for ZBIROLE001. Returned with RFC code 18 and message: See RFC trace file  or SAP system log for more details. u201D

    I test RFC connection with SM59 and test RFC destinations in /crystal/rptadm successfully.
    I also compared the RFC settings and User role between SAP DEV system and PRD system. But I did not any find difference.
    This role had been imported in to BOE system and the SAP user has  administrator rights .
    Is there anyone can give me some advice for next step?
    Thanks in advance!
    Wayne

    Hi Ingo,
    - are you using the BW publishing service or the SAP gateway ?
    Customer used BW publishing service.
    - does SM59 work properly ?
    Yes, SM59 works well.
    - did you create a trace file for the publishing already ? If not - create it and attach it do the forum.
    I am not sure which trace do I need. Could you tell me the details?
    Thanks a lot!

  • Can we setup two sets different 7912 logos in one CCM cluster?

    Hi,
    CCM 4.1(3) cluster within head office. We created the 7912 logo for system default image. However, the remote site 7912 phones, need to use a different logo other than the head office.
    as per http://forum.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&forum=Unified%20Communications%20and%20Video&topic=IP%20Telephony&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Dpass_through%26location%3Doutline%40%5E1%40%40.1ddc5d3d/0#selected_message
    We can create the 7912 logo, but how can we setup two or more different 7912 logos for different sites?
    We noticed on CCM4.1(3), there is idle URL for 7912 phone, what is the callmanager default link for this URL? I am thinking to use different logo file names, and put the related URL on this parameters for remote site 7912 phones.
    Could someone let me know or any other better way to do?
    Thanks,
    JJ

    Hi JJ,
    This should work just the way you have described. Have a look;
    Idle
    Enter the URL that displays on the Cisco IP Phone display when the phone has not been used for the time that is specified in Idle Timer field. For example, you can display a logo on the LCD when the phone has not been used for 5 minutes.
    Leave this field blank to accept the default setting.
    Idle Timer (seconds)
    Enter the time (in seconds) that you want to elapse before the URL that is specified in the Idle field displays.
    Leave this field blank to accept the value of the Idle URL Timer enterprise parameter.

    Here how on CCM;
    Method 1:
    Choose System > Enterprise Parameters so that the change is propagated to all of the phones from the Cisco CallManager Administration page.
    In the URL Idle field, enter http://IP_address_of_CallManager/CCMCIP/filename.xml.
    In the URL Idle Time field, enter any positive value in seconds.
    Method 2:
    Choose Device > Phone under the Cisco IP Phone configuration so that only this phone displays the graphics from the Cisco CallManager Administrator page.
    Choose the phone/phones on which you want to put the display.
    In the Idle field, enter the path http://IP_address_of_CallManager/CCMCIP/filename.xml.
    In the Idle Timer field, enter any positive value in seconds.
    From this good doc;

    Hope this helps!
