Cache/copy Bitmaps loaded from external source?

I'm working on a chat application that retreives user profile icons from remote sources (e.g. Blogger, Yahoo, Gravatar, etc). Easy to get the images in a Loader and display them.
The problem is that a single thread could have hundreds of records, but probably only 10-20 active commenters. In a standard browser, each <img...> link after the first one is cached, so you only hit the source site once. Is there any way to cache/store/copy those images within Flash to avoid requesting the same image over and over?
I can do it in the Local sandbox by accessing the BitmapData of the loader content and cloning a new bitmap for subsequent instances of the same request URL, but of course once the application moves to the Internet the security system requires a Policy file allowing bitmap access. I doubt that I can get Yahoo to add one for me. I don't need to manipulate the bitmap at all, just copy it. Or reference it as content from multiple Sprites, or something along that line. Once I've downloaded the image once, I don't see why the security system would prevent me from displaying it unchanged as many times on the page as needed.
If this can't be done in AS3, perhaps it would be a good feature to add in the next release? Remote image caching is pretty well accepted in other platforms.

I put  trace on the image URLs, and they always showed HTTP Status = 200 - they were loading every time. In any case, I came up with an easy workaround. I out a php script on my hosting server that fetches the image, then use that as the URL for the loader object. Voila, no security violation because the php is in the same domain as the swf. Cut down load time by at least a factor of 5.
Only problem is, the loader always gets a 200 status on the php script, eve though I'm setting an Http header to send a 404 (the same URL from a browser gets the 404 response.) That generates an Unkown File Type error in my SWF so I have to trap that rather than the http status. It works, except I can't differentiate b/t a non-existant image and a server or connecion error. Or at least, I can't do it without a lot more code

  • How to merge key field from external source system with SAP R/3 master

    Hi,
In SAP BW 7.0 system, our scenario is Master Data for 0GL_ACCOUNT is coming from SAP R/3 alongwith the Transactional data records for standard FI cubes. Then, one more set of transaction data is coming from external source system, a flat file, into another custom DSO(ZDSO_FI), which also has this GL Account field.
This flat file's GL account, GL_file, has to be basically mapped/merged with the standard 0GL_ACCOUNT field so that at the time of loading the transactional data for custom DSO, ZDSO_FI (with transformation mapping GL_file > 0GL_ACCOUNT), system automatically refers to the 0GL_ACCOUNT master data to load these incoming transactional values, from the external flat file system. How can this be done?
To illustrate the scenario, say I have 5 records in 0GL_ACCOUNT, loaded from SAP R/3 into SAP BW-
    0GL_ACCOUNT      Short Description     Source System
    100                                   D1                          R/3
    200                                   D2                          R/3
    300                                   D3                          R/3
    400                                   D4                          R/3
    500                                   D5                          R/3
Now suppose if my flat file has following sample transactional data, to be uploaded in SAP BW  ZDSO_FI-
    GL_file      Key Figure1
    400          789
    200          567
Then after uploading this transactional data in ZDSO_FI (with transformation mapping GL_file > 0GL_ACCOUNT), the 0GL_ACCOUNT data becomes as below-
    0GL_ACCOUNT      Short Description     Source System
    400
    200
    100                                   D1                          R/3
    200                                   D2                          R/3
    300                                   D3                          R/3
    400                                   D4                          R/3
    500                                   D5                          R/3
So note that the system did not refer the incoming GL's from flat file, although the field is mapped to 0GL_ACCOUNT in transformation, to the already available master data. Rather created 2 new data rows for the GL accounts coming from external system. Because of this I am not able to perform the calculations common from standard FI cube and ZDSO_FI, with GL account as key field. I need to synchronise these data values based on GL Account to proceed with further calculation and am badly stuck.
Request if anyone can please throw some light on how to achieve this seemingly simple requirement?
    Thanks in advance.

  • I can't paste text from external sources into Photoshop CC 2014.

    Hello everyone,
Since a few days I'm not able to paste texts from external sources into Photoshop CC 2014.
I never have problems with Photoshop CC before.
I have the new iOS Yosemite installed in my macbook.
It's really frustrating, can someone help please?

I have basically the same setup, except on a Mac Mini. I am unable to reproduce your problem. Double check that you are copying the original text in the first place, and then make sure you are pasting into a text layer as you cannot paste into a regular Photoshop layer -- nothing will happen. Create a text layer by clicking on a regular layer with the text tool, the T in the tool box. The new layer will show up in the layers panel identified by the first line of the text.

  • Cannot copy files to/from external drive

    Hi All,
Bit of a cry for help.  I run an iMac 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 10.7.3 and I'm having some serious problems with an external drive.  Some history first - I have a large iTunes library (~3Tb) of everytype of media which I stored on an external NAS (iomega StorCenter) with no problems - then this NAS started to report a drive error with imminent failure.  I purchased a new DAS (Western Digital) drive and moved all my content from the NAS to the DAS and everything was ok.  Then I started to get errors through iTunes about cannot find the file and cannot read the files - and then I couldn't access anything on the drive.  At this time I thought this was a different problem because I was running preview Mountain Lion, or there was an actual fault with the disk.  After investigation, and coughing out for Data Rescue 3 I found that somehow the entire file structure had been corrupted and all my files had been orphaned.  So at this point I had one dying NAS drive and one DAS which wasn't usable and no space to recover any files to.
So - next step was to purchase another external drive (and returned the WD) - this time I went for a G-Raid 4Tb (non-thunderbolt) drive and I've been in the process of recovering files from backups and iTunes.  I've had no problems until today when yet again I've started getting errors and now I have problems copying files to/from this G-Raid drive.
      Technical details - OS-X 10.7.3 - G-Raid 4Tb formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) - currently showing 1,163 folders and 15,452 files.
Symptoms - using finder drag and drop copy a file from the g-Raid to desktop results in 'The operation can't be completed because the item 'xxx' is in use. - 'The operation can't be completed because one or more required items can't be found (error code -43).' and the copy fails.
Using the cp command I get a 'Resource Busy' error.
However, this is not for all files - I've managed to copy all my books back to the desktop ok, when a couple came up with the above error I tried again and it copied successfully.
I have run Disk Utility - here are the details :-

and it's just got worse - in getting the info for this post I no longer have access to the drive.
This is the second time this has now happened on two different directly connected drives (USB and Firewire) - which means the problem is elswhere.  I've a stack of errors in the system.log file

I'm now out of ideas and when I got in touch with G-Tech support I got "Unfortunately the drive seems to have been corrupted. You can try to retrieve the data using third party data recovery software such as Data Rescue 3. You can find the software at a discounted rate at the following page:http://www.thedatarescuecenter.com/gtech-data-recovery-software.html  If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask."
any help/advice/pointers very much appreciated as I really don't want to have to start recovering again :-(
    Thanks all.

    Hi Ncat,
I might have had similar problems with yours. Finder stuck at 'Not Responding' while I boot my Macbook Pro with external HDD plugged in, my macbook heats up considerably maybe because it keeps trying to access the external disk. And Finder can only proceed after I unplugged my external hard disk.
    So what I did was:
I rebooted my macbook into recovery mode (by holding cmd+R before / during the booting chime
I used the Disk Utility from there (instead of from normal booting)
Then I proceed to with 'Repair Permissions' and 'Repair Disk' for each and every partition of the external harddisk, and also my internal hard disk.
Rebooted after everything's done, and now it seems to work.
I hope that it will work for you

  • How to load from multiple sources to multiple destination dynamically

I have more than hundred tables  in a different server (lets say on a sql server 1). I have to perform load,by getting change records copy of those hundred tables with the some condition in to sql server 2 destination. I know how to perform data
flow task in SSIS to extract data from a source and load it in a destination. With more than hundred tables, I would need to create more than hundred data flow tasks which is very time consuming. So I have heard about from source to destination dynamically
by looping through and creating variables. Now, how do I do this? Remeber, those hundred tables do having similar column names in both soruce and destination server. How can I perform this initial load faster without using multiple data flow task in SSIS.
    Please, help! Thank you!

Ok , if the schema of both the source and destination is same , you can just perform an import and export tool and then it can be saved as an SSIS package. If this needs to be separately developed in an SSIS package, the logic can be :
1 - Get the list of tables using sysobjects or metadata table where all the table list is maintained.
2 - Loop through those tables using for each loop.
3 - Inside the for each loop , use a script to access the source connection ( OLEDB source table name) and the destination connection (OLEDB destination table name).
4 - Assign the source table connectoin dynamically to the variable fecthed from for each loop above.
5 - You can also use expressions for the OLEDB source table name and OLEDB destination name inside the data flow task.
6 - At the end the data flow task which is explained above will be used.
Script task and the data flow task will be used inside the for each loop , above which all the objects list will be fetched using execute sql task using a SELECT and assigned to Object variable.
Simplest will be Import and Export.
Happy to help! Thanks. Regards and good Wishes, Deepak. http://deepaksqlmsbusinessintelligence.blogspot.com/

  • Cannot open Microsoft Office after copying it across from external HD with recovered data from my broken macbook HD.

I have recently had to replace the hard drive in my macbook pro. All the data has been recovered from my old one onto an external HD and I have copied over everything from this onto the new HD on my macbook. Everything is fine except for Microsoft Office (2011).
Although I can see all the Microsoft Office programs in the Applications folder, I can't open any of them. It sort of tries, but then doesn't open. All my word, excel, etc documents have the little 'W' or 'X' in the icon and I can preview them, but it won't open.
So far I have copied Office and Messenger into Applications, 'Microsoft' into Application Support, 'Microsoft' into Preferences, and the 'Microsoft-Userdata' into Documents.
Have I missed something? I don't have the original CD or product key anymore so don't think I can completely reinstall.
    Thanks.

Thanks for your help - I have now found the original product key (although still no disc!)  so is there any way now? After this, I'm giving up and just biting the bullet and buying it again, annoying!

  • Windows 7 not loading from external drive

I traded out my optical drive for an ssd with the hopes of installing Windows 7 Home using a legit disk (32-bit).  My attempts with using Boot Camp Assistant have led to a black screen with a blinking cursor.  Assuming that Windows cannot load from the now external drive, is there another solution?

You cannot install nor boot Windows from an external drive.

  • I have 2 yr old Iphone 4 and have not backed up or connected to Itunes or backed up for 1 yr. I have new computer and want to connect and copy Itunes folder from external HD to new computer and install Itunes. What steps should I take and what precautions

I have a 2 yr old Iphone 4 and have not backed up or connected to Itunes up for 1 yr. I have new Windows 7 computer and want to connect and copy Itunes backed up folder from external HD (a year ago) to new computer and install new Itunes and new IOS. What steps should I take and what precautions? I don't want to lose any data on my phone such as music, photos, contacts, notes, texts etc, nor lose music from prior backed up Itune folder. Apps should be OK from app store? Thanks for any help.

  • Recording from external source

I am brand new to Mac / switched from pc a week ago. not able to figure out some things yet and havent found answers in support. mostly on the basic stuff. like I was able to record audio from a lp turntable on a pc. it looks like there is no recording program built in to the iMac, or am I wrong? will I have to purchase some type of software to record from external record or tape source?

Sorry some heavy-handed moderation has been going on here. I accidently duplicated my post when I edited it to say 'Welcome to Apple Discussions'. Then I asked the mods to remove the first post above and they've gone and deleted my second post and yours; I am sorry about that.
You posed a question about Real Instruments in the absent post. A Real Instrument can be a microphone input or any device that connects to the Audio-In port (or a USB/Firewire Audio device).
    Hope that helps.

  • FF 3.6.12 will not open links from external sources (Outlook, Dreamweaver, Digsby, etc)

I have just upgraded to Firefox 3.6.12 and links clicked in an external source will not open in Firefox.
Firefox is set as my default program for web browsing. I have tried to open links from Outlook, Dreamweaver, Digsby, and other programs.

I have the same issue, opening links from external programs like Word or Thunderbird does not work. This used to work before the update to 3.6.12
