Calling the "getData"-method : does it connect to the source ?

Dear all,
Does a call of the "getData"-method make a connection to the underlying source, eg a BEx query ?
Or does it only read from the loaded Data Source in the application ?

Hi Hans Segers,
getData gives the results based on loaded query in application
For example:
this is actual query in QD
SNo Sname Marks
1     name1     10
2     name2     20
3     name3     30
4     name4     40
Implement getdata lets say
DS_1.getData("Marks", {"SNo": "1", "Sname": "name1"}).value;
getData returns the value :  10
Now you filter data source in Application/browser lets say
DS_1.setFilterExt("Sname", "name2;name3");
now resultant loaded query in application is
SNo Sname Marks
2     name2     20
3     name3     30
Now if you implement getdata
DS_1.getData("Marks", {"SNo": "1", "Sname": "name1"}).value;
getData returns : 0
Because there is no current data for name1 in application but in Underlying query has all the details
