Can I just plug in a headset?
Hi -
I've got a headset that I plug in. I can hear from the headset speakers, but the headset microphone does not appear in the dropdown list of available microphones (there's only one that appears - a Realtek.
Hi -
So I understand you to mean that if my computer has no sound card then the mic will not work? Sorry to seem obtuse, but I want to make sure.
Thanks.

With just an adaptive plug for European outlets, can I just plug in my iPad for recharging to the 240V. electircal power outlet without a transformer to reduce the power to our US 110V. power? Same thing for iPhone too?
All of Apple's chargers work from 100-240VAC, 50-60Hz power. You just need the plug adapter.

I want to connect a Windows PC to an existing Airport Extreme router via ethernet connection. Is there any utility required or can I just plug into the router? The router is already set up and working with existing iMacs.
thanks for the info. I found apple utilty software on this windows 7 PC but I guess it is not required for sharing internet on exisiting apple extreme. Am I correct that I can remove this apple software?

I changed locations and now I can't just plug in and surf.
I was at location A and could just plug in the ethernet cable and surf the net. I was on a trip and plugged into a hotel ethernet connection (location B).
Now I am in location C and when I plug in a working ethernet cable, I cannot just surf the net. There is no connection at all.
Has location B changed my settings? I would really like to just get back the factory ones if it were possible, so i could plug in and surf wherever I go.
Any help to solve this?
By: New Macbook owner.A lot depends on the system.. If it automatically issues an IP address you can usually plug and play. If it doesn't the person that controls the system must issue you an address and you must enter it manually. These setting are in Network under *System Preferences* . Talk to the sys admin for location C for what to do to use their system.

If the OP only wants to read from the drive that would be OK, do you know that is what he wants?
No, do you? The OP asked if the drive can be connected. It can but there may be limitations. Saying you cannot connect an NTFS drive is not correct, it is only partly correct. I know you know that.

Can I just plug in my PC formatted Hard Drives (Vista) to my new MacBook Pro?
I am a new Macbook Pro owner. Have existing PC (Vista OS) workstation and Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion OS. All my photos are on PC formatted external hard drives. I have Adobe Lightroom loaded on both PC and MAC and would like to access the PC formatted external hard drive from either PC or MAC.
Do I need to download any special application to allow my MacbookPro to connect, read, and write to these drives? (I haven't tried to plug them in yet - afraid to damage them)
Do I need to reformat my external drives to a Mac format to make them run better?
thanks in advance for the help.
JonWhat's done is done and your probably full(ish) drives in NTFS format will remain as they are. When you add a new one to the collection, might want to investigate formatting it in ExFAT format instead. OS X will happily write on it as will Windoze. And you have the advantage over the ancient Fat32 format that you can create and store files over 4GB in size safely and without data corruption.

I want to extend my existing wireless router by using the AirPort Express for my Smart TV. Can I just plug in the AirPort halfway between the router and the Smart TV and have no direct connection to a computer or the TV, or do I need to plug in next to the TV and somehow connect the AirPort to the TV (ethernet)?
You are asking several different questions. If you need to store your photos, music, and movies on an external volume, you certainly can. Any externally connected hard disk drive will work, connected either directly to your Mac or to your Time Capsule as a shared volume.
You should not rely upon using that as a backup device though. Although you certainly may use it for both purposes, it is a better idea to have dedicated backup devices for a variety of reasons not limited to redundancy. You would not want to simultaneously lose all your pictures as well as your backup. If they are all on the same device, that could happen. Furthermore, a backup cannot back up the volume on which it is running.
As for adding an Extreme or Express, using its LAN port for your iMac, and then enable Internet sharing so you can effectively use the iMac as a "hotspot", you can do that too, but I am unclear on what benefit you believe this arrangement would convey for you.
An Extreme's Guest network is separate from its Main network; that is the reason for having it. -
Reason I ask: I have an AirPort Extreme that works great. I only want to use the Time Capsule to back up my wife's Macbook wirelessly. I don't want to go through the daylong hassle of trying to set up the Time Capsule as my base station and have to track down obscure networking data (by calling an AT&T tech person in the Philippines) and printer info and TCP/IP digits, MAC addresses, MAP vs. POP info, etc. etc.
So, can I just plug in the Time Capsule and "add" it to my current Wi-Fi arrangement? Then just open my wife's Macbook and choose the device on the network to back up to?
Thanks in advance for any tips. -- stevenSo, can I just plug in the Time Capsule and "add" it to my current Wi-Fi arrangement?
Yes, you have the option to configure the Time Capsule to "join" your current wireless network, so backups will occur over wireless only. In this type of configuration, the Time Capsule really functions only as a wireless hard drive. It performs no routing functions at all.
One of the advantages of doing it this way is that the Time Capsule can be located wherever you want.....as long as it can receive a strong wireless signal from your main wireless router, of course. -
What happened to the nifty "sync" button in iTunes? It syncs as soon as I plug it in, and that's great! BUT! When I go to the iTunes Store and buy new stuff, I can't just 'sync' the device again so my new stuff gets added. Why?
Nothing happened to it.
It is still there. Maybe it says apply now, not sure, but it is still there.
