Hi, Please excuse my naivitee. I am running an old but fast G4 tower on alocal network with little sharing. After a clean install and using software update, I am seeing a repeated attempt to download and install OSX Server software throughthe logs, particulArly thE INSTALL LOGS.I don't really care to wake up one morning to learn that I've suddenly become another OS X server. Are there any steps I can take to be sure I haven't become a server bot unwittingly. Someone keeps shooting files my system flags as defective or unapproved with suggestions the files have been prevented from being downladed. I need to become aware of how diligent I need to be to thwart efforts to make me

The 2nd thing is that the install, system and console logs over and over seem to be referencing efforts to intall Serversoftware found through Softwareupdate.:

I read one item through Google that said when the server software is installed (the root account is enabled automatically), the password is the same as the one assigned to the administrator you define. That doesn't appear to be the case. I can't 'su' to the root account.

Server 2012 fresh install - Running at a crawl. Possible hardware issue?

I have recently purchased a used server and just fresh installed Server 2012 to evaluate it, and I am experiencing a issue with it running very slow. So far nothing has been setup or installed besides the OS, hard drives, and a external usb drive,
so it is pushing me to believe my issue is hardware related.
First let me describe the issue more. Basically everything is slow to load. Control panel takes 20 seconds... trying to load disk management and other snap in from administrative tools all take 15-20secs+ and first come up in
a greyed out window or the administrative tools window goes to "Not Responding" for a few seconds then loads it.
I do not think it is due to the fact the server is used with slightly dated hardware as it has Dual Quad-Core 2.66 Xeons & 16gb ECC Ram, so I was thinking their must be a bad piece of hardware in there? Maybe bad ram?
Anyway I plan to start hardware diagnostics, but I just wanted to see if anyone had any insight or suggestions for me. And to verify if this sounds like a hardware issue to you as well.

Windows 2008 R2 that is on top of the list of supported operating systems. It is a good choice for some testing with M350 G5. Then you can test the in-place upgrade and application compatibility test will tell you, which component makes the problem.
If for example onboard NIC is not compatible, then you can use another NIC card that is compatible. When it is RAID controller (very often), then either use another RAID or single HDD (it is test only, not for production environment).
You can explore the virtualization path. Get know if appropriate hypervisor from VMvare is compatible with this hardware is also compatible with Windows Server 2012 R2. VMware forum may answer your question on virtualization. Working in virtual environment
will provide some experience too.
Majority of current desktop equipment allows you for testing Windows Server 2012 R2. There are some exceptions, namely "high end game machines" that make you to find remedy for drivers (example

Can I leave an iMac running without rebooting for an extended period?

A month ago I bought a new iMac to replace an old one, which I used for Logic Pro and as a home media server -- it ran great for years (mostly Plex with a few scripts running through the day and night).
I had a few issues with the new iMac hanging and rebooting into safe mode by itself, so I took it back to the Apple Store and chatted with an Apple Genius. He ran some diagnostics and found no hardware issues, and so he did a fresh install of OS X.
One bit of advice he gave me was to make sure that I reboot the machine at least weekly.
I used to be a System Engineer at Sun Microsystems. When we ran our systems as servers we rarely rebooted them, often leaving them for months, and in some cases years. So it was a bit of a surprise that he recommended this.
He suggested this was so fsck could run to keep the file system clean.
Am I right in thinking that the iMac shouldn't need rebooting that often to keep it running well, and it certainly shouldn't cause it to hang or crash the whole OS? Any thoughts or experiences welcome.

It doesn't need to be rebooted every if it's maintained correctly. Many have theirs on for weeks and months only restarting when required to install software.

First Time installation of Flipshare software-unable to run without an error message.

Got a Flip video camera for christmas. No battery life out of the box. When I plugged it in to the USB port it loaded the software so it appears in my applications folder but will not run a set up without an error message.

Sorry. that last post wasn't so clear. I started the computer without a password, but I think when I was trying to set my own password I may
have re-activated the old one.

Can I keep my email running without iCloud?

Question about moving from MobileMe to iCloud.
I am using Mac OS 10.4.11 and I do not plan to upgrade my OS software at this time. I am not using any wireless devices such as iPhone, iPad, or iPod. The only "wireless device" I use is my PowerMac G4 using Airport and whatever wireless signal from a modem is handy for internet connection. I am using Apple's Mail application and wish to continue using it just as it is with my existing email addresses. I currently have a MobileMe account which I'm not worried about losing when it's phased out as long as my Mail application and email continues to function.
My question is do, I have to sign up with, or make the move to, iCloud in order for my Mail application and my email to continue working in the near future? I do not mind losing MobileMe and I do not mind not having iCloud if my email will work without it.
I do not wish to purchase iCloud service and I hope I do not have to pay to keep my email working.
I do have iDisk at the moment but I prefer to let it go rather than to continue to pay for a remote upload/download storage service, although I wouldn't mind keeping it if I don't have to pay for it. My main concern is just keeping my email going in the simplist way possible. I'd love to hear I do not have to do anything meaning not worrying about losing MobileMe and not having to get iCloud.

You are in a bit of a cleft stick because of the age of your operating system.
If you have a MobileMe account and do not migrate then all its facilities, including your email address and messages, calendar and contacts syncing, and the iDisk, Gallery and website hosting, will cease to function at the end of June and the contents of your iDisk will be erased.
If you migrate from MobileMe at http://me.com/move , or if you don't have a MobileMe account but create a new iCloud account, you will be able to access your email following the instructions I posted. You will not be able to access calendar or contacts syncing, nor any of iCloud's other facilities.
If you have a MobileMe account and migrate your email will be moved to iCloud, your calendars and contacts will disappear from MobileMe, but your iDisk, Gallery and website hosting will remain the same until the end of June when they will disappear.

Hi amalia85, I read where you installed or tried to install the beta version. You may have a mix of old Flash Player versions and beta, etc.
If you would start your own thread and post your operating system, browser or browsers you use, then it would be easier
to help you.
It is always better to start at the beginning when you are having problems installing. If you have not had a successful Uninstall and Install, then looking for something that may not even be there won't help.
At this point it is hard to say if the beta is installed or not. However if it is there a special Uninstaller is needed.
You can pick any subject line you like when starting your thread, just keep your same screen name.

Entitlements Server - Configuring SSM to run without an SCM

I am using the ConfigTool to create java-ssm instances. What do I need to specify to create an SSM that doesn't use an SCM? Or, how do I update the configuration of an existing ssm to shut off the need for an SCM (though the documentation says you can't switch from XML to SCM once the instance is created so I'm assuming the reverse is also true).
There are instructions for doing this from the "wizard" at [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12890_01/ales/docs32/installssms/No_SCM.html#wp1087976], however, my wizard never presents the checkbox mentioned, and the figure (10-1) appears to be missing from the documentation.

Install Snow Leopard Server Software on non server version mac mini (2009)

Recently purchased Snow Leopard Server software to install on a early 2009 mac mini (non server version) running Mac OS X Snow Leopard. My goal is to set up and manage a server for a small group and leverage some of services from snow leopard server.
First of all, can server software be installed on a early 2009 mac min configured with Mac OS X Snow Leopard? This 2GHz Intel Core Duo mac mini has 2GB Ram and 120GB HD. Will the server software install remove the current snow leopard software or is there any special steps I need to take to get the server version software loaded on this mac mini. Yes you can install it on your mini And Yes it will wipe the mini clean with a fresh install of the server software.

Strontium90, thanks for the suggestion. I finally got it to work. I performed the copy FROM the workstation, instead of FROM the Server. I made the Server Applications folder a shared folder temporarily so that I could access it FROM the workstation and copied the Server App from the Finder window at the workstation. I think I may have an issue with the Admin account I am using. I created this Admin account locally in the workstation and then created a network account in the Server with the same short name and password as the local Admin account thinking that the local machine would recognize that network account as the "same" local admin account. I guess it doesn't work that way.

Hi. We are in the process of testing the Multi-Factor Auth server and are currently using it for two-factor authentication to RDS for a couple of users. At the moment we are only using the phone call/text options but I'd like to get the mobile app portion
working to test. Also still need to implement the user self-service portal for testing.
Currently I have a vm that was dedicated to MFA where the Multi-Factor Authentication Server software was installed. Now though I'm a bit confused as to if its safe to install the user portal and mobile app web service portion on this same machine
or if they should go on a different server(s)? Currently the box is internal but I'm guessing if it has also act as the web server we would stick it behind the TMG for external inbound access. Is external access to the primary MFA server ok?
What's the best practice for separation of the MFA roles; or is there none and its fine to just put it altogether?

You have a dedicated MFA server and if you install User Portal on the same server as the MFA Server, it uses RPC to communicate with the MultiFactorAuth service locally.
If the User Portal is installed on a different server, it must connect via the Web Service SDK. You can use either a username/password of a service account that is a member of the PhoneFactor
Admins security group, or you can configure client certificates. If using the username/password, you can encrypt the appSettings section of the web.config file if desired.
Under Inetpub\wwwroot\MultiFactorAuth when you edit the web.config file you need to make sure these values are set.
