Can't connect to the internet in my home yet other devices can. I tried it in other wifi places and it connects without a problem. My home wifi is with ATT Uverse. I cheched the IP address on my laptop and its different than on my Ipod although it on the same network.
Move off WEP to WPA or, preferably, to WPA2 (as recommended by Apple). WEP has been deprecated by the WiFi Alliance since 2004 as insecure (it can be cracked in seconds by any hacker).
Note that each device on a network has a unique IP address but if your address starts with 169 then you did not get a valid IP address assigned to you by your router. If restarting the router did not cure the problem then you should check for a firmware update for your router.

This usually indicates a problem with your router or cable modem, your ISP's service or cabling outside your house. First thing I'd try is rebooting the router/cable modem (turn it off, wait 1 minute, then turn it back on).

As I Said..I just wondered if it was possible to upgrade my software without having to connect my mac to the net..I have never connected it as a precaution against any nasties.It seems that i have been sent a password protected PDf with a link to the MAC APP Store..but you can only access the mac app store if you have a mac connected to the web. any ideas..?

if connecting that specific Mac to the web is an issue, what you will need, anyway, is another Mac computer with OS X 10.6.8 so you can start the Mac App Store in order to download the Lion installer.
On that second computer, you can copy the Lion installer on a USB stick or other storage solution, and then copy the installer on the Mac-you-cannot-connect-to-the-internet .
You could even burn a Lion install DVD from the installer. More info about this here

My iPad won't update iOS 7.0.4 software saying it is unable to verify because it can 't connect to the Internet and to try again later. It doesn't display an error message number. Obviously I can connect otherwise you wouldn't be reading this. Any suggestions? Many thanks for your help.
You didn't specify which way you are trying to update - using the Software Update setting on the iPad or by using iTunes. I will assume that you are using iTunes because the kb article that linkd you to here was the one about iTunes error codes.
Quit iTunes, reset your iPad, restart your computer and try again. Disable your firewall and antivirus software of you are using it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -

Thank You for the support.I was having the same problem and the culprit was my web accelerator via Google Firefox. I have to turn of the accellerator before itunes will connect. Try that.

I keep getting the above message when I try to configure my synchronization settings...yet I clearly have an internet connection. I downloaded the most recent Desktop Software and that did not correct the problem.

When I charged my ipod touch 5g and it turned on it said it's 1969 and won't let me connect to the internet. I've restarted my ipod, I've tried resetting all settings including network and I tried connecting it to itunes but it won't connect to itunes due to an unknown error. How do I get my ipod to connect to the wifi and reset to the correct date and time?
Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke. If it has never been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again. Also, read this. -

Why can't I no longer connect to the Internet via my AirPort Extreme Base?
I suddenly can no longer connect to the Internet through my AirPort Extreme. Everything was fine until this morning. My Base Station is connected to a DSL modem and then my computer connects to the Internet wirelessly through the Base Station. The center light is on in the Base Station. The left light flickers telling me there is wireless activity. I can still access my printer through the Base Station. But the right light is no longer flickering. I have rebooted everything several times. Does anyone have insight into this problem. This is the second time this has happened. For over a month I could not access the Internet through the Base Station, and then suddenly and arbitrarily it started working again. This morning it just stopped again.
I've had the same problem - mine started after I upgraded to 10.4.8 on my MacBook a week or so ago.
I can see other networks around my home and when I travel, but can only connect via ethernet cable (and my ISP is comcast - I thought the upgrade was supposed to help make connecting with comcast better).
My G3 has no problem connecting, so I don't think it's exactly a problem with my modem, or base station, or even comcast. I think it has something to do with my base station and upgrading to 10.4.8. Btw, dropping back to 10.4.6 hasn't helped. -

Hi all, trying to set up my MBPro...seems to be connecting to my AirPort Base Station w/out any troubles...but when I try to get online I'm getting a "can't connect to the Internet" message. I checked my network settings, restarted multiple times, etc. No luck. Seems to be a problem with the IP address (I think)...but not sure how to resolve it. Our ethernet connection was fried in an electrical storm so we had to go wireless.
Electrical storms are never a good thing when it comes to electronics. What was/is your current network configuration? Is it something like the following?
Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > AX > (wireless) > wireless devices
Is there another router, other than the AX, in the configuration? ... or an Ethernet switch? I'm just trying to understand your network to best advise you on how to configure the AX. -
Can't connect to the internet with my wired desktop computer or my wireless laptop!
I'm stumped? Tonight I was surfing the internet when all of a sudden I lost my internet connection from my desktop computer? I tried various solutions to fix this but nothing worked? I'm currently hooked up to a wireless router model WRT160N. Here's the clincher, I unhooked the ethernet cable from the port on the router labeled "internet" and hooked it back into my ethernet port on my desktop computer and persto everything worked fine!! I can't connect to the internet either using my laptop!? I hooked everything back up to my router and tried accessing the internet but nothing worked? When hooked up like this I lose my internet connection on my desktop computer as well??? I'm confused??? What could be causing this??? I've just recently configured my router last Satuday with the help of a Linksys technician?? I bought my router last tuesday!?! Need help here!!!! My iMac's software update can't seem to find my internet connection. It gives this message after trying to find new updates:
*A networking error has occurred: timed out (-1001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again.*
Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem.
Then I can click either 'Network Diagnostics' - which always says I'm connected, or 'Quit'
