Can't edit web parts

Hi All - I'm working in a SharePoint 2013 Online environment, and I can't edit any part on any page.  When I go into "Edit Page" mode, I only get the option to minimize and maximize web parts (Double up/Double down arrows). The check box and
single down arrow (connected to edit menu) don't show up anymore.  It's strange because I never used to see the minimize/maximize arrows, before this.  If anyone knows what I might be doing wrong, please let me know.
Thanks!
JE

I found that this was not occurring when I opened the site in Chrome, so I started playing around in IE to see if I could fix the issue. It turns out that when I added "sharepoint.com" to the list of sites in "Compatibility View Settings"
it resolved the issue.  I don't know what happened that would have triggered the problem, but this certainly resolved it.  Hopefully, this will be of use to someone else.

  • Report Explorer Web Part - Edit Web Part

    Hi,
I have the Report Explorer and  & Report Viewer Web parts installed and working
Now, I would like to configure the Report Explorer to open the reports in Report Viewer, but I dont see the "Connections" property.
In the Report Explorer Menu I only see the  "Report Manager URL" and "Start Path" properties. Where is the
    "Connections" property?

    Hi DevDiver,
According to your description, you want to connect the Report Explorer to Report Viewer so when you click a report name in Report Explorer it is displayed in Report Viewer. So you are trying to find out the ‘Connections’ property to achieve this goal.
Based on my test, just as you said, when we click Edit Web Part in the Report Explorer Web Part context menu, we can only see ‘Report Manager URL’ and ‘Start Path’ properties. Because the ‘Connections’ property is located at the Report Explorer context menu.
After typing something in ‘Report Manager URL’ and ‘Start Path’ properties, click OK, then move the mouse to the Report Viewer row to click a black downward arrow. Then we can see the ‘Connections’ property in the drop-down list.

  • Webparts missing borders and edit web part menu

I have a web part page, and added 7 apps (document libraries) into the page.  They are all set to minimized for the chrome state and toolbar type is "Full Toolbar".  The web parts do not display any border, and the edit web part menu
is not available, it is only available when in editing mode.
When I look at my site in SharePoint 2007 with the same settings, I can see that they have borders on the web parts and the edit web part menu is available on the right hand side (even when you are not in edit mode).
2007 View (which I'm looking to mimic):
What I currently have in 2013 (no borders or edit web part menu):
Am I missing a setting?  I've tried in IE 11, FireFox and Chrome, all are the same.
Any help would be most appreciated.

I've done some fiddling after reading your post.. This seems like a bug, and there is hardly any information on it.
I'm experiencing the exact same thing in my environment; I can minimize a web part, and it is not restorable unless I edit the page. Furthermore, when I set the chrome to Title and Border, I get no border.
Also, it's cleared stated by MS that this should be possible: "You can configure a Web Part to be minimized by default on a page. You might do this if a page seems crowded.
The readers of the page can restore the Web Part while they are reading the page. If they close and then reopen the page, the Web Part will be minimized again."

  • Where is the drop down list with "edit web part" for a list??

In Sharepoint 2010, there was a drop down list to the far right of a list.  One of the options was to Edit Web Part.  In Sharepoint 2013, I can't find the drop down list.  Nothing is to the right of my list and mouse overs down't reveal
anything.  I am trying to get to that area to change my toolbar type.  Any clues as to where the "edit web part" has gone to?

I've been able to edit Web Part properties for weeks, but a few days ago, I could no longer do it, either by using the checkbox in the upper right corner of the web part or by using Web Part Properties in the Web Part tab.  It's greyed out.
Then yesterday I could do it again and today I can't.   An intermittent problem!
No one has changed any Sharepoint Admin settings.
Anyone have any ideas?  They would be greatly appreciated.

  • People Picker/Edit Web Parts/More not working in IE11

So, we just installed IE11 in our company and found the following issues with SharePoint 2010:
    People Picker not working
At Search site, when you type in string(s) and hit Enter, nothing happens (you must click the search button)
Cannot edit web parts on Wiki Page
After doing some exhaustive homework (and installing Sep 2014 CU to see they were fixed), the only 2 solutions are:
    Run in compatibility Mode
Fix the below tag in the Master Page and People Picker headers (14 hive)
    meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8"
So, I just want to know if others have encountered this and what they did to resolve (compatibility mode or change the tags or other).
I have a ticket open with Microsoft, we installed Sept 2014 CU, and are still having these 3 issues.
    Godspeed,
    Herschel

    Hi,
    Thanks for posting your issue,
We know that IE11 has compatibility issues. Kindly follow below mentioned steps to solve this issue
    1. Installed all the latest Update for IE 11
    2. Add the site in compatibility Mode (Tools> Compatibility view settings> type site name> add)
    3. Add the site in trusted sites and set the security Zone level to low ( IE> Internet Options> Security> trusted sites> sites>add your site there> ok> custom level> select low> reset> ok)
Also, browse the below mentioned URLs for more details to fix this issue.

  • SharePoint 2013 and IE 11 issue - While creating a Web Part Page and Editing Web Part Properties

I tried to edit a Web Part in SharePoint 2013 using IE 11 but I did not see the Edit Eeb Part dropdown menu at the top-right corner of the web part. Then I tried to create a Web Part page and I get the following error.
Cannot create a Web Part Page with the current browser. Browsers that support the creation of Web Part Pages include Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or later, Mozilla Firefox 3.0 or later, and Apple Safari 3.0 or later
Strange !!! My web browser is IE 11.
I tried the above two tasks in Google Chrome and worked fine.
    Solution:
I added the site url to local intranet zone in IE 11 and I am now able to add Web Part Page and Edit Web Part in IE 11.

Hi - One more solution is to add SharePoint site to compatibility group:

  • Edit web part option does not appear in browser on lists

I've inserted some lists on a wiki page. However, when viewing in the browser the checkbox and the dropdown containing the Edit Web Part option do not appear. On the properties tag I thought I enabled all the correct properties such as Allow Edit, Allow
Minimize etc. What am I missing?

    Hi Larry,
According to your description, my understanding is that the Edit web part option disappeared in the list web part.
I recommend to check if the account has permission to edit the web part, please check the permission of the account in Site Permissions and the list permissions.
Please also check if the target audience is set in the web part.
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • Can we edit webi and deski reports and save the changes?

Can we edit webi and deski reports and save the changed values for a particular column?
If yes what rights should be granted to particular user?
Will the report changes reflect at database end also?

Both Web Intelligence and Desktop Intelligence comes with designers, where you have a GUI to design reports.
Web Intelligence you'd design in InfoView using the DHTML Report Panel or the applet-based Java Reporting Panel.
Desktop Intelligence you'd use the Desktop Intelligence client.
ReportEngine Java SDK (REBean) is what you'd use to programmatically create/modify Web Intelligence Documents.
Desktop Intelligence Reporter COM SDK is what you'd use to programmatically create/modify Desktop Intelligence Documents.

  • Library View Limit in Edit Web Part

    Hi
I have created about 80 library views to display on 80 different pages. However, when editing my web part and trying to change my library view the drop down seems to have a limit of about 25 items. Is there a way to change this?
    thanks,
    AK

You can try with a web service and a data view web part, check below thread

  • Can not get web part to stay minimized

We have a team site with many web parts on the page many being different calendars. Most the the web part we have set to be minimized. We add a new web part and set it to be minimized by default in the web part settings, as well as clicked the option in
the drop down to minimize. When we save the web part appeared expanded. How can I get it to appear minimized?
    Thanks
    James T.F
    Update:
    In web part properties menu
    Apperance:
    Chorme State = Minimized
    Avanced:
    Allow Minimize = Checked

    Hi James,
It is by design that the calendar view for the calendar web part will display as expanded even though the Chorme State is set to be minimized.
So if you want to set the calendar web part to be minimized by default, then you need to change the view of the calendar view to be a standard view first and then set it to be minimized by default.
    http://griffindocs.wordpress.com/2013/03/20/sp2013-how-to-minimize-a-calendar/
You can also use code to hide the calendar view and add a button which is used to for clicking to expand the calendar view in the same page.
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • How to Resolve Can not Display Web part error using CQWP and a blog

I have  a SharePoint 2010 site with a home page that has a  CQWP (content Query Web Part) tied to the most recent blog of blog site with a list of blogs.  Randomly, some clients will experience a "Unable to display
a web part". Our client machines are set up with Roaming profiles that are PKI enabled.  Some users are always able to see the resulting blog on the home page, while other users, experience sporadic ability to see the blog ----getting a
"Unable to display web part".  Also a client can be on one machine and get the error and then log on to another machine and not get the error. Its also seems that when a new blog is added to the blog list this is when the
ability to see the blog on the home page may come up as an error.  Our setup is simple:   show items= list/posts, List type=Posts, Content Type Group= List Content Type, Content type=Posts,  no audience targeting, not additonal filters,
group items by = None Descending,  #columns =1, sort items by =published -descending   Limit # display items = 1,  Gropup style = Default,  itemstyle= image on left,  yes play media links,  Fields to display = titlt
    and Description (body)
What kind of things could cause the random behavior?

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that the error occurred occasionally with the Content Query web part.
I tested the same scenario in my environment, and the web part worked fine.
I recommend to verify the things below:
Did this issue occur with all the Content Query web part? I recommend to create a new Content Query web part to see if the issue still occurs.
Did this issue occur with all the users who have permission to view the web part?
Deactivate the Publish feature and then re-activate it to see if the issue still occurs.
Check the ULS log for detailed error message.
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • Search results web part, path and query problem

    Hi
I am updating a search web part and I want to show results from a specific site, I m using "path" to filter results, results are being returned correctly but now query I type in search is getting ignored. for example if I type "zxcvbn" I

Can I edit web part query to include "path" and "query" I type in search box?

  • Missing Web Part Edit Menus

I have a fresh install of SharePoint 2013.  I'm the only user in it and I'm in the Owners group.
As I add a web part in the homepage, as well as new pages within subsites, I am unable to edit them.  The dropdown arrow and select box are missing.  All I have is a double up arrow  to "minimize" the web part (or Restore if already
    minimized).
I also have a SharePoint Online site, which I've been using for testing and POC purposes.  It's basically an exact duplicate of my on-premise installation.  The Edit Menu works fine in the Online site, using the same IE11 browser.
I am not using SP Designer or anything. It makes me think it's a permissions thing.  But why can I edit the page, add a web part, but not edit the web part?  Being in the Owners group with Full Control access should give me permission, no?
Where do I need to look?
    Thanks in advance!

I'm the Site Collection Administrator and in the Home Owners group. Not sure how much more permissions I need.
I think it's a problem with authenticating my account.
When I RDP to the server itself and use the SharePoint site using the FQDN (test.mydomainname.com), it works perfectly. I can access the Edit Web Part menu normally. However, when I login from my desktop (not through RDP) straight through the Internet, I get
    the problem.
The SharePoint server is hosted with a cloud provider. So the problem occurs when I'm not signed in locally to the domain. I do sign in with my domain\username, but not while on a machine in the server's LAN. I work remotely.
I'll alert my cloud provider about this. Do you have an idea of what is causing this problem?
