Can't get Lion because I need 2GB of memory?

I don't understand why I can't upgrade.  I have a relatively new Imac, maybe 2 years old at the most, and have upgraded with each opportunity.   When I look at the "about this Mac" detail, it says I have 1GB of memory.  Do I have to purchase more memory to make the upgrade?

I currently have the Mac OS X v10.5.8 and want to get the new operating system but I don't know how to do it. I don't have the Mac App Store and can't get it because of my version. What do I do?

The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard. The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion. The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion.
To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD should still be available from Apple for $20. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775 to purchase it. It may still be in the Legacy Products list.
If they no longer have any in stock you will have to buy it from eBay or Apple resellers that still have stock. But you will have to pay a premium since the DVDs are no longer being made. Snow Leopard DVDs are already up to $100 on Amazon.

Once you are at 10.6.8 Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store.  The price is still $29. You must have at least a model 2,1 MacBook.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • HT200027 I am still running Leopard Mac OS X 10.5.8.  How can I get Lion Mac OS X 10.6, so I can update to Mountain Lion?

I am still running Leopard Mac OS X 10.5.8.  How can I get Lion Mac OS X 10.6, so I can update to Mountain Lion?

    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
If you need to purchase Snow Leopard you can still purchase a copy from Apple's online store's telesales agents.[1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775.] Ask for a Sales Representative.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
If you need to purchase Lion call 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. Ask for a Sales Representative. They will check your Apple ID, and email you a code and instructions.  The cost is $29.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.
Be sure your computer meets the minimum requirements:
Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps - App compatibility and feature support for OS X & iOS.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.

  • Can i get Lion on my mac?

    Hi,
My Macbook has Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a) on it. can i get Lion once its out?

Your hardware should be OK, but you're right, you're on 10.5 Leopard, you need 10.6 Snow Leopard.  It's a $29 upgrade, then another $29 to upgrade to 10.7 Lion.

  • Hi, I have a MacBookPro 5,1 with a software of 10.5.8, can I get Lion software in my computer?

Hi, I have a MacBookPro 5,1 with a software of 10.5.8 Leopard, can I get Lion software in my computer or Snow Lion? Some of my apps need them..
    Thanks (:

Your MBP will have to meet these specifications:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP629
    You will have to install Snow Leopard first and update it to 10.6.8;
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
You then will have to contact Apple customer relations for a redemption code for Lion.
    If your MBP meets these specifications, you can install Mt. Lion;

You can also use the OS X Lion installer from the Mac App Store to create an external bootable drive, complete with a Recovery HD partition. See this article for more details. This approach will, at least, create a bootable drive with Recovery HD which you can carry with you in case you need to use Internet Restore or make use of the other utilities Recovery HD provides.

  • Can't get Lion Server to work

    Hi
As written above. I can't get Lion server to work.
I have succesfully installed the program, and turn on some of the services. Then I have bought a domain, to connect to my server. But if I try to connect to my IP, from another computer, it doesn't connect. I have tried to "port forwarding" port 80 on my router, and given my Mac a static IP. I have checked with a "Check port opener" if the port 80 was in reach, it was.
So my question is, what is the next I can do to make it work. First with the IP and then with my domain?

Yes, SMTP used to work but stopped after new cert applied. IMAP works fine. Removed SSL and still doesn't work (although should it be restarted or is save for changes okay).

What model of Mac?  I have a MBP running 10.7.3 and do not have that issue.  From the other couple of posts I've seen about it, it seems to be maybe an issue with some iMacs?  Have your tried searching the Lion or iMac forums for similar issues, just to see if anyone has hit on why it is happening?

  • How can I get LION to let me see the side of folders?

How can I get LION to let me see the side of folders?
and files? at the bottom of the window as in snow leopard.
I miss this and rely on it to monitor the available space on the hard drives ect.

Dov, that is close but not in the status bar but at the bottom of the volder window. Surely , everyone can't have forgotten snow leopard and leopard et al already, where you could could to display at the bottom of all ovened folders to see the status of the the files and hard drive. Boy I WISH I HAD A SCREEN SHOT OF WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT.
Yes you can get the info from get info and in the list view. But we use to be able to have a line at the bottom that gave a running total, which to me was very useful as I throughput mondo files to discrete drives thoughout my network for sorting photos by topic to seperate drives.
ah here we go a screen shot off my macbook running snow leopard, it is that grey  bar at the bottom which says "4 items 137,26 GB available",that I am wanting in the LION window bottom.

  • How can I get Lion re installed after crash and no recovery disk?

I bought Lion some time ago I did not do a recovery disk and now I had a huge crash. I started over with Snow Leopard cause that's all I had. How can I get Lion re installed?

Make sure you're up to 10.6.8 through Software Updates, and then re-download Lion from the App Store.
Incidentally, many Macs (from 2010 models onwards) have the ability to run Internet Recovery, even if your original hard drive crashed, which will allow you to re-download and install Lion directly from the internet.
But the best way is always to have a local backup of your system drive.

  • How can I get Lion to work with label printer- Brother  QL 570 or Dymo 450 Turbo?

I can't get Lion to work with label printers, either Brother QL 570 or Dymo Turbo 450. I want to uninstall Lion and use Snow Leopard unless there is a way to make Lion work with these devices. Any ideas?

Dymo has released new drivers since Lion came out. Have you downloaded and
installed them from the Dymo website?
Some people have said that their Dymo label printers were set to off line by Lion, but
worked fine after going to Print & Scan, selecting the Dymo printer, and making sure
it was active/on-line. I had to do that with my Dymo 450 Label Writer.
I cannot offer any tips about Brother, but you may wish to check their website
    for latest drivers.

Try doing a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.
