Can't have my camcorder as external video

hello~
i'm editing in hdv and can't seem to have external video with my sony v1u. i'm having a hard day...
thanks

On the Digital Production BUZZ podcast I often hear ads for Black Magic Design's Intensity card. It is only $249 and allows you to monitor your HDV edit on an HDTV via an HDMI cable.

Hello, I have two questions on time capsule  I can only have it on my external hd files and free up my internal memory to my mac  I can use an external hard drive, in my case a lacie rugged as shared memory for my two computers

I have a mackbook pro and an iMac if I buy a time capsule 2tb airport, I can use it with time machine and what would be the best way to use it.
There is no particular setup required for TM.. both computers will create their own backup sparsebundle which is like a virtual disk.. Pondini explains the whole thing if you read the reference I gave you.
and how to use time capsule airport whit other external hd to use my old lacie airport with the new time capsule
Up to you.. you can plug the external drive into the TC and enjoy really slow file transfers or you can plug it into your computer and use it as external drive.. which is faster than the TC.. and TM can include it in the backup.
Again everything is explained in the reference.. you are not reading it.

  • Error 5006:  can't have more than one externally visible definition

    Hi
    I'm getting this error:
5006: An ActionScript file can not have more than one
    externally visible definition: AMReports, playSound.
playSound is a function in my main document class
The error occured after I added a MovieClip and FLV component
to my the same framemain timeline. This Movie Clip has 3 frames.
I'll be using cue points added to the FLV component to move this
from frame to frame in that MovieClip.
Any one have an idea why this is happening?
    Thanks.

I fixed this problem: a brace was in the wrong place.

  • Can you have a look at this video and give advice please?

    Hi Guys,
Can you have a look at this video-
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UA0x3bQUW-g
I shot it for a friend at a hotel. Can you let me know if if works ok / stutters etc. on your computer.
    I edited hdv pal / ppro cs3 then adobe media encoder to H 264 1280 x 720 25fps bitrate min 2 max 4. keyframes 25.
It looks pretty bad i think at the normal youtube. It looks a lot better when you hit the 'watch in hd' but begins to stutter.
    Do you have any advice?
    Many thanks
    scott

First, thank you for doing a very nice piece. I'm a tad bit tired of the "in-your-face" skateboarding pieces. The young lady is also "easy on the eyes."
Second, I looked at the piece in both resolutions, and also after all buffering had completed. The only things that I saw were one Transition at about the 1/4 point that seemed to have about a 1-frame "glitch," or something. Two of the Titles also did not seem to fade-up/move-in at the same pace, or with the same smoothness as the others. Even looking at movement, like the flag (again near the 1/4 mark - sorry that I did not write down the exact TimeCode), I did not notice any stuttering. I'd better get this out of the way right now, I'm viewing on my laptop's 17" 1680x1050 nVidia GeForce 8800M GTX-512MB display, with full hardware acceleration.
Not sure what you, and Dan, are seeing. I'm usually a pretty critical observer, though might be missing something important. If you can give me a TimeCode and where, in the frame, you're both seeing the problems, I'll be glad to give it another go.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS I like the mood that both the visuals and music convey. My wife also made note of the URL, for our next trip to the UK in October.

  • ITunes 10 how can I have iTunes recognise an external harddrive

iTunes 10 how can I have iTunes recognise an external harddrive, where all my music is already. I did the option, selecting extenal HD but some reason the iTunes does not alow me to select the .xml file (grayed out)

Use Migration Assistant in the Utitiies folder to return the deleted user account back to the machine, I don't know exactly how to go about this as I don't  use TimeMachine as it's so limiting, but Pondini can help
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
You might have to create the account with the same name, but I don't know if it will access the user files on the TM drive or not.
Once the account is back onto the machine you can log into it and transfer files between accounts on the same machine using the Finder > Go to Computer > Macintosh HD > Users > other account > Public > DropBox and drop files/folders in there, the permissions will change to the other user and the files/folders will be there when you log into the other user account.
Next time consider bootable clones, you can access them directly and even boot directly from them, update them when your ready and make as many as you need, create clones from clones even.

  • Can I hookup my camcorder to external HD to laptop?

Sorry about the title. Didn't want to use too many words. I just purchased a panasonic gs320 off ebay. Looking to do some simple point and shoot stuff with a decent quality 3 ccd cam. Now here's my question. I have a macbook pro and my laptop only has one firewire port. Now I keep my external HD plugged into that port. Now I noticed the back of my hd has another firewire port. Is it possible to keep the hd connected to my laptop and then connect the camcorder to the back of the external HD? Also, I have an external hd connected to one of my usb ports. I know everyone prefers firewire over usb, but would I be able to connect the camcorder to the laptop via firewire and dump video to the usb external drive? And work it that way if the first way doesn't work? Sorry for the essay lol, but I really would like to find this out. I should have my camcorder tuesday and I wanna start soon as I get it. Thanks

    Hi
    And just to add in.
Daisy Chaining most often can be problematic.
To make the best of it.
    • When You done as Karsten writes - formatted it as Mac OS Extended
    • Free up space on Your lap-top by moving files over to the new external drive
    • This to make it possibly to Capture Your movie to the Internal Hard Disk
Pumping data from Camera via external drive into lap-top then back again to
the external drive can be too much.
    • I would start the new movie on the internal drive - Capture
    • then move it out to the external one after closing iMovie
    • then cont. to work on the external version of it

  • Can I have iPhoto library on external disc?

I needed more space on my laptops harddisc, and moved the whole iPhoto library to an external firewire disc. How can I tell iPhoto where to find the pictures?
    I have iPhoto 2.0.1
    Thankful for help....
    Øystein

The "option" key at launch does nothing for iPhoto 2, but what does work quite well is iPhoto Help. Search for the topic "switching between photo libraries" and should find what you need.
You did, of course, make sure that the external drive was formatted as "Mac OS Extended" before moving your iPhoto Library folder there, didn't you?

  • How can I have a canvas and external controls at the same time?

Typically all the space of an applet is used for 2D or 3D; that is, the applet provides the canvas. I am trying to develop an applet where I only want to use part of the applet space for 3D, and then, outside that space (but still within the applet) I would like to add some controls (e.g. buttons or text fields) to provide some interaction. In other words, I want to have an applet that contains something like a frame for 3D, and some controls outside the frame.
It may be quite easy, but I am very new to applets. Can anyone kindly give me some suggestions? Any help is highly appreciated!
    Regards,
    Hua

I got it figured out. Thanks anyway!

  • External Video...

hallo, i have a question conserning external video capabilities...
i was editng over the weekend at a editing studio wth 2 cinema displays and used the external video option to show ALL FRAMES...it was the first time i have used this feature and i was thrilled about it...so i went home and tried it at home, and it worked just as it did at the editing studio, but with my less cool samsung and LG widescreen monitors...a few days later i tried it again and it worked. no problem, then i opened a new projekt and it didnt work. i didnt change the keyboard setting or anyting, just opened the new project...i dont know what is different...i read the FCP manual and from what i understand i shouldnt be able to use the external viewer at all, only with 3 monitors and another graphics card...but it worked for me on a few occasions....i was hoping some of you can shed some light on what i could possibly change or do to get this function again...
i have a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT card with 2 monitors, both 16x9...
    thanks a lot,
    aaron

    hallo again,
in the VIEW menue i have set "External Video" to ALL FRAMES, and the Video Playback set to Digital Cinema Desktop - Main. my monitor switches to the fullscreen preview mode, but the images arenot updated. that is to say there isno difference from ALL frames and Single Frames in the "External Video" option.
    thanks for the help,

  • Aperture 3 -- External Video or Audio Editors

Aperture 3 video is set to FCP 7.x or Motion
    audio to Soundtrack Pro 3.x

The problem with iMovie, FCP and FCE is that they don't actually edit any files.
When you send a video to any of them it receives them and then what? As they are all non-destructive they simply record your edits in the xml file and go actually see the fruits of your labour you have to export from them. Rather like trying to use Aperture for editing an original file - it's just not designed that way.
QuickTime is a 'destructive' editor in that it actually works on the File itself, and that's why it can be used as an external editor.
    thanks for your comment, tc
if what you're saying is true then using quicktime 10 in it's current version is pointless because it offers nothing that Aperture can't do already & renders that "external video editor" feature in Aperture 3 useless.
those of us that use apple pro apps to make a living are accustom to round-tripping non-destructively into other pro apps (been doing this for over 10 years) which was expected when apple announced that "...Aperture lets you designate separate external editing applications for audio and video clips..."
aperture has never been treated as a pro app the way the other apple pro apps work. i'm still hoping aperture 3 will be.

    • Only if your video camera supports it.  Depending on how your camera works, you may need to add preview software to your Mac to use this feature.
    • Alternatively, your camera may also be able to record directly into your Mac while you are monitoring the Mac's display.
    • If you are using a consumer camcorder that supports HDMI monitoring, a small HDTV might be an simpler solution than your Mac.  For an example of how this is done, see http://youtu.be/GVpSkZD6qE4.
    • The retailer who sold you your video camera may have other suggestions.
    • If you need more professional results, an external preview monitor will offer more capability on compatible cameras.

  • Can I have an external video source run in a window instead of using the full display?

I'm aware that the 27" iMac models are capable of accepting external video sources, but I'm wondering if it's possible to have an external video source run in a window on the desktop, rather then use the full display. Does anyone know if there's any software I can download to allow this, or will I have to purchase a special capture device?

hat I DON'T WANT TO OPEN the window application FROM the Labview VI BUT IN the Labview VI. I think it's possible to do that and to do communicate the OpenGL application with the Labview Interface using an ActiveX but I don't know how. Can someone help me ?The desired behavior you desribed may not be possible with that application. In general LabVIEW does not offer a window object that other standalone applications can run it. The closest thing is the ActiveX container. If the programmers for your application created an activeX control of your program and they provided documentation, it should be pretty easy to incorperate the app and labview into one window. I recommend contacting the manufacuturer of the app to see if they have an activeX control version of the app.

  • How can I get iMovie '09 to recognize videos in my iPhoto Library (on an external HD)?

Because of the amount of material I have, I use iPhoto Library Manager to manage three iPhoto libraries - one on my mac and two on separate external hard drives.
I can import videos/pictures directly from my camera to any of the libraries, but when I open iMovie, it only displays iphoto videos on my macbook hard drive, and often not even all of them!  I've tried right clicking on the different hard drives and selecting "import movies" but my iPhoto libraries are always greyed out and not selectable.
All I want is to be able to edit (in iMovie) the video clips I've already uploaded to my iPhoto libraries!  I want them consolidated on one external HD so that when I plug it in iMovie sees them and lets me play or edit the clips stored.

Try forcing iPhoto to load the Library on the External Hard drive by launching it while holding down the Option key. Choose the Library on the External HD, and quit iPhoto, see if iMovie can see the Library with the iPhoto Videos contained inside.

I recently purchased an old iMac G3 Macintosh. I was wondering, is there a way where I can update it without using an external disc? I've seen the newer Apple products with the dock, if I update my iMac G3, will it have that, and if so, how can I do that?

I was wondering, is there a way where I can update it without using an external disc?
If you mean the iMac does not have an internal optical drive capable of reading DVDs, the only option requires another Mac with a DVD-capable drive and FireWire ports. Your iMac G3 will also require FireWire ports. Not all G3 iMacs have Firewire. FW started with the Summer 2000 models with 400mHz and faster processors.
With FireWire, you can use FireWire Target Disk mode to install from a retail OS install DVD in another Mac. If you supplemental info info tells us if you have another Mac with a DVD reader and the FW ports, we can walk you through the process.
If the iMac has a tray-loading drive, I'd forget it. They are very limited not only in the OS max (10.3.9) but also in RAM capability. Starting with the slot-loading iMac G3s, the max RAM increased to 1 GB (2 X 512MB modlules). Tiger likes 1GB RAM.
Understand that pre-Intel Macs are getting harder to use. Even with 10.4.11, your choice of browsers is limited (TenFourFox is the most viable option) and the G3s  rudimentary video hardware means web browsing will be choppy at best.
If you are in the USA, you can try calling the Apple Store (1-800-MY-APPLE) for an OS disk. As recently as Jan 20, someone posted here that they were able to buy Tiger by calling. It was not clear whether the disks were replacement system install/restore disks or full retail install, but it's a free call.
When you do "About this Mac" to check teh OS verion, also look at the processor speed and tell us what that says. That can help with recommendations for an upgrade path.
