Can't HotSync Centro ("Serial connection failed to initialize")
Every time I start my laptop (Sony VAIO, running Vista) I get the following error message: "Serial connection failed to initialize (The selected port, COM4, is not available at this time. HotSync Manager will open the port when it becomes available.)." I haven't been able to HotSync my Centro for some time now, as the port apparently never does "become available".... Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
How are you connecting to the computer?
What do you have the HotSync Manager set for? A serial connection? ("Local")?
It should be set to "Local USB".

Just wondering if the onboard ati radeon mobility 7000 graphics card handles 3D-graphics? I'm trying to run the game "dreamfall" (see www.dreamfall.com for system requirements) but on start-up i get the message: "Failed to initialize Direct 3D. Aborting".

Try and download and install the newest video driver as well as the newest directx modules. After which go to Start-->run-->Dxdiag. From there test the direct draw features and make sure all of them are working normally. Hope this helps. -
Can't use video ichat connection failure

only recnetly about two weeks that i have not been able to contact to any one using ichat. I am from New Zealand, i have tried to contact with friends in Australia and New Zealand however video ichat does not connect. I used to use it until about 2 weeks ago and then it stopped working.
text ichat works fine. even i can send invitation for video ichat and people can "accept" it however the connection fails.

iChat can not be pinned down to one specific Network.
In iChat 4 it sees several things as Two or more Networks.
MIMO routing devices the Multi Broadcast the WiFi Channels get seen this way.
Connecting to a LAN with two DHCP server such a a modem that routes doing DHCP and a Router doing the same - the Mac gets two IPs.
Similarly if you connect to a routing device with WiFi and Ethernet you get two IPs
(As will Hopping on to a Neighbour's Wifi Network whilst Ethernet to your own)
Parallels is a problem for some if it is set to Share the Mac's IP and the two VPNs that are created in System Preferences > Network are active (even if Red) they need to specifically be set to Off and the App set to get it's Own IP from the routing device.
Internet Sharing in System Preferences > Sharing can also be a problem even if there is nothing linked to Share it with.
As Firewire uses an IP like format to identify devices I have seen this connected to a Stills camera show up as a Network in System Preferences > Network and cause problems.
So it would seem that the sharing of the two Ethernet ports is seen as two networks by iChat.

This is the first time I am using this forum. I am stuck and need some help. I received this error message both on SQL 2005 and 2008. I am currently using SQL 2008 DEV for testing purposes and I am experiencing this error message when trying to connect to Database Engine Tuning Advisor. I am using the SA account so I should not have any security issues. Also this is a fresh install of SQL 2008 DEV on a fresh install of Windows XP Pro with all SP. Can some please help.

When I click on a link for a google search, I get the "Secure Connection Failed" error in Firefox. It states, "Please contact the server administrator or email correspondent and give them the following information: Your certificate contains the same serial number as another certificate issued by the certificate authority."
I have followed the instructions here:

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, deleted the entire profiles folder, and reset Firefox. I see that the older (orphaned) article points to my router. However, I have a new router and have updated its software. There is no button to add an exception (as noted in the article), so I can't just bypass it. This problem does not occur with IE, so I have a hard time believing it is my router.
How do I troubleshoot this issue? I really don't want to change browsers.Here is a screen shot of the error.

I can't login to the App Store - connection failed...
yesterday I had totally forgot my password and security question & went through 'Apple Express Lane' in getting assistance to reset my password for my ID "[email protected]" account so I can update to Lion OSX & merge my MobileMe account to iCloud through the 'App Store'
the password was reset and was able to login to the App Store with new password and download OSX Lion.
I have now successfully installed OSX Lion and have completed all the updates up to OSX Lion 10.7.3
after the updates, I wanted to purchase some games through the App Store and tried to login, but I get a message in red
'Connection Failed'
I tried to find answers and post a topic in 'Apple Discussions Forum' using Safari 5.1.3, but it won't let me sign-in on my ID '[email protected]' and my password.I get the following message :
'This Apple ID has been locked for security reasons. Visit iForgot to reset your account (https://iforgot.apple.com). Forgot your Apple ID?'
But I just reset it with the Express guy??
The other thing is I keep getting 'security certificates' popping up as well every time I attempt to login into 'Apple Discussions' or click to another webpage for a different site. Even when I click on legitimate(I hope) certificate to always trust, I find I have to repeat the step again
even with iTunes when I go to sign in I get the following:
iTunes can't verify the identity of the server "buy.itunes.apple.com"
The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be "buy.itunes.apple.com" , which could put your confidential information at risk. Would like to connect to the server anyway?

which have done and still no change. Twice now over the last two days in changing password.
When I use 'Firefox 10.0.2' I can login to iCloud & Apple Support Community & and don't get the pop up verify security cert's

I can not access my Time Capsule from the Finder. This was working, but on 12/25/2011, the disk can no longer be accessed. It shows up in the Finder, but when I try to connect, I get a "Connection Failed" message. If I cycle the power, it works for a little while and then fails again.

No i'm connect via ethernet (cable) with TC. The problem is when I try to connect to my TC when I'm away from home like for ex. using a free wi fi spot!! Well in this case the icon appear on my Finder but refuse to connet!! ( connection faild ). -
Well I believe I described the problem above. I want only to add that the external hard drive is a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Drive 1TB and the wireless modem router is a Belkin N Plus (model F5D8635-4 v1). Also, in the finder window under "shared" I see a "belkinserver" and when I click it, it says "connection failed". If I click "connect as" I get the "the server "belkinserver" is available on your computer..." which I mentioned above. I tried to connect macbook via ethernet to the modem router and then when I typed "smb://belkinserver" it immediately prompted me for a username and a password and when I typed them finally I got to enter the contents of the hard drive! So what's the problem wirelessly?
If your external drive does not have an independent power supply, you may wish to consider a couple of lower-cost options before tossing the drive. Bus-powered drives have no external power source and must get all their power from the computer. They can exceed the computer's USB energy budget.
Cheapest option:
1 Meter USB 2.0 A to 5 Pin Mini B Cable - Auxiliary USB "Y" Power Design for external hard drives.
This gets power from two of the computers USB porst sna can provide enough power to wake up an under-performaing bus-powered drive.
If you don't have enough ports to use this, try the next cheapest option:
Newer Technology 7 Port Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Hub with Power Adapter for Mac & PC
Such a hub has a an independent power supply to make up for wahat the comptuer fails to provide. -
"Connection Failed" - can't access win machine
hello,
when i try to use my new MacBook Pro's Finder to connect to one my windows machines on my local network, it reports "Connection Failed".
when i try to use the "Connect As..." button, absolutely nothing happens on click. no prompt for username & password.
i can access the same exact computer perfectly from my iMac (the "Connect As..." button works there. both are running leopard 10.5.2.

Make sure the firewall is turned off in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall
Make sure Gatekeeper is enabled
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Make sure either Mac App Store or Mac App Store and identified developers is selected. If that area is grayed out, click the padlock icon to proceed.

Print attempts are paused with the Message:

The Epson is shared with a Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista.

If that won't work, perhaps you can use Find my iPhone from a computer in your iCloud.com account to erase the device.

Can't get to Time capsule back-ups -- Connection Failed and "Connect As" does nothing
I had to replace my hard drive. I am trying to access the Time Machine back-ups. I can see the back-up volume in the Finder under the "Shared" category, but when I try to connect to the back-up volume, I immediately get "Connection Failed" and the "connect as" button does nothing when I click on it.
Do I have to re-start backups before I can get into the old back-ups?? Any advice on how to get "Connect As" to let me connect?
