Can't Stop Print Queue with HP J3680

I've been using an HP J3680 Officejet for several years. I hadn't noticed this problem until recently: I can't stop a print job after it has begun. There is no HP software that is pertinent. I've tried opening Print & Fax in System Preferences, then clicking on Open Print Queue, and nothing happens. Even if I power down, the job continues on Restart. All the latest drivers have installed via the AppStore. Does anyone have a similar tale of woe, or suggestions? Thank you.

The most effective thing I've found is the CUPS internal admin web page - jobs tab.
get to it here:

Forgot to tell you - if it says you can't access that internal page, type this command in the Terminal:
cupsctl WebInterface=yes

My setup: iMac hardline to Canon i960 printer. Issue: endless printing of the same document. The printer window states that the pinter is in use and there is nothing listed in the Print Queue.  How can I stop printing the document?

Soution: Delete the printer and add the same printer back in, therefore creating a new print queue.

  • Client stops print queue

I have approx 150 Panther and Tiger clients, both using Ethernet and 802.11G, print-served by a G5 Tiger Server. Often, a client user unintentionally somehow manages to stop the print queue, stopping print-services to that particular printer altogether. In order to find the offending client, I need to go around to each client to look for a printer icon in the Dock with a red exclamation point. Once found, I can restart the print queue from this client.
    My questions are:
    1) None of my users are advanced enough to purposefully stop the print queue. Is there a keyboard shortcut or print menu item that is easy to push by mistake - in other words, how can it be that my users repeatedly manage to accidentally stop my print queue? And how can set up my client to prevent accidental stops?
    2) Is there a way I can restart the print queue from the server? Finding the offending client again and again can get a little tedious, and requires me to be present and available to do so, as none of my users are trained to restart the print queue from client.
    Any thoughts are appreciated.

Ah! This is what I had running:
    #!/bin/bash
    # This program deletes files older than 1 hour in /var/spool/cups
    # and older than 5 minutes in /var/spool/cups/tmp .
    # It also repairs permissions on SAMBA spool (for Windows printer sharing)
    /usr/bin/find /private/var/spool/cups/ -type f -mmin +60 -delete
    /usr/bin/find /private/var/spool/cups/tmp/ -type f -mmin +5 -delete
    chmod 777 /var/spool/samba
    Combine it with..
    #!/bin/bash
    /System/Library/StartupItems/PrintingServices/PrintingServices stop
    rm -R /private/var/spool/cups/*
    mkdir /private/var/spool/cups/tmp
    /System/Library/StartupItems/PrintingServices/PrintingServices start
    /usr/bin/enable `lpstat -p | grep 'disabled' | awk '{ print $2 }'`
And it might take care of itself.

  • How to share 10.6 OSX Server print queue with Windows 7 successfully?

I used Bonjour Print Services for a Windows 7 machine (http://support.apple.com/kb/dl999) to successfully connect to a Mac OX Server 10.6 print queue, and the following message is generated in the print log and CUPS log,
    "POST/printers/stormoncecar/ HTTP/ 1.1" 200 2205 Print-Job Successful-OK
There are no errors, however, nothing comes out of the printer.  It works for all the Mac OS Client machines, but not for any of the Windows 7 machines.
How to share print queue with Windows 7 successfully?

I'm back on this problem.  I thought I would give more details as I still can't print.
    Operating System: 10.6.8
Driver for Canon LBP6750 UFRII prints from Mac and prints from Windows 7.  However, printing from Windows 7 as you share the printer from your Mac does not print out anything and has no errors.

  • Random jobs stopping print queue

I have 3 printers attached to my iMac via a USB hub, a canon i9100, an epson SP 220 and an epson SP 1800. I have experienced this with all of the printers, so I don't believe it is a problem with the printer software.
Most of the time everything works perfectly. But approximately 10% of the time the document will just not print. I thought it might be something to do with InDesign, since 99% of the documents I print are from InDesign, but I have experienced the problem with TextEdit files, emails, web pages (camino and safari).
There doesn't seem to be any particular cause. The job will queue up, and then all the sudden the printer will stop all jobs. The only way to get them started is to delete the job from the queue. The strangest part is that SOMETIMES reprinting the document will work fine, while other times it just continues to stop the print queue.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Or is it just a ghost in my machine.

It's possible that you have a corrupt font. That will stop a printer. Check the fonts you are using in a document that's causing problems, and maybe change the font, and see if it works. It's easier if you have a font check utility like suitcase.
If you dont, maybe figure out what page of a document is causing the printer to stop. That will narrow the search.

  • How can I list print queues per server via power shell script

    Hello,
we are managing many print servers on our domain environment,  now for auditing purpose I need to report print queues per server,  and it seems bit difficult task doing it via GUI in print management view, could someone help me with script which
gets me the no. of print queues on each print server.
Also I need to list all the print drivers installed on each print servers.
I tried to list the drivers " Get-WmiObject win32_printerDriver -filter " but this will get me complete information about the driver, I need to list only the driver name (-filter) either _RELPATH or _PATH
    dibu

You can also use WMI like this:
    (get-WmiObject win32_printer -computer ws702).count
I don't understand what you mean by list only.  Just select what you need.
    See: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/scriptcenter/dd742419
That will give you some basic background on how to use PowerShell to get the properties of objects.

  • Changeing preferences on network printer queue with Powershell

I found a script on this page - http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/878e6bac-e2a1-4502-9333-5b1420f8b957 - that I am trying to adapt to work on my users computers and not only on servers. But I can't seem to figure out how to get a reference
to the network attached printers and change their preferences on the computer, the script only get the local ones.
The goal is to use only a portion of the script as a logon script for some users that need onesided printing as default.

Ok, I want to run this (some...) script on a users computer, not on a server, to be able to change their printer preferences. In this case, a network attached printer with duplex default from the server would get simplex as default.
We don't want to set up different queues on the server for different default settings. That's why we are trying with a script.
Running your script against my computer gets me (trimmed down a bit):

  • Can not find print queue

I sent a label print job from my Mac Mini to a Dymo 300 label printer. Job was wrong and I could not cancel or find print queue. Mac help said, printer icon will appear on dock while printing (does not) to click and stop or delete from there. Tried going into applications/utilities/printer setup/ and thats not there either. Do I have to reload Mac software? I reloaded latest version of Dymo program and drivers to no avail.

With the printer setup Utility- double clicking on the printer that you are concerned with will bring up a new dialogue box for that printer, showing various controls as well as the print queue for it.

  • Can you save print settings with a PDF?

I have an 8.5"x14" PDF. Is there anyway to save default print settings with this PDF so if a user opens it on their machine it defaults to printing to 8.5"x14" paper? Right now it always defaults to the standard 8.5"x11". I'm not sure this can be done because it seems like more of a specific users machine thing. I don't think you can save print settings with a PDF can you?
    Thanks!

The "auto-formatting" of a hardcopy print format is generally the realm of the output device, in this case the printer. Printer software gereally includes an auto-format feature that selects the proper bin. For those who only have a "letter" tray, it usually asks to feed the right format manually, or switch trays. This is not a PDF feature but an output device feature.
    Hope this helps.

  • Monitor Print Queue with java program

I'm plan to write a client/server based application which control the printing for every user. I've no idea how to start on the application.
    1. Is it possible to monitor the print queue or print job using java application?
    2. How does the server react if the client sending the print job to there? How's the client can trigger the signal during printing and send to the server?
    Thank you!

I'm plan to write a client/server based application
which control the printing for every user. I've no
idea how to start on the application. You should establish feasibility first, before planning to write anything
    1. Is it possible to monitor the print queue or print
job using java application? Not really. Print queues are highly system-dependent things and some e.g. Windows can really only be accessed via system calls in a native language.
    2. How does the server react if the client sending
the print job to there?Err, it prints the file?
How's the client can trigger the signal during printing and send to the server? What signal?
But I suspect the answer to the first question makes the others irrelevant.

  • Why can't I print wireless with Time Capsule anymore?

I have an Epson Stylus Photo 1280 that I have been printing wireless with for many years by plugging it in to the USB port on the back of the Time Capsule. Not anymore.
I have a MacBook Pro running the latest OS as well as the latest model Time Capsule running the latest software from Apple. I have tried using Airport Utility 5.6 which sees the printer plugged in. But when I try to add the printer to the Print & Scan system preferences, it shows up but says:
Software for this printer is available from Apple. Would you like to download and install it?
When I click "Download and Install" it searches for the software but then tells me:
The software for this printer is currently unavailable. Please contact the printer’s manufacturer for the latest software.
When I plug the printer directly into my MBP, I can add the printer and print without any problems.  Per Epson, I have the latest software for my printer, so I'm not sure why Apple needs to search for the software and download it in order for me to print using the Time Capsule.
Like I said before, this all use to work flawlessly. I'm assuming all the updates have "broken" something.
Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.

    Well, I solved my problem.
I deleted the EPSON folder in Library/Printers as well as Library/Cache and installed the EPSON driver via Softwar Update.
    Everything is working fine now.
